Great question! Yes, you're correct that most Ph.D. programs will give a stipend while most Psy.D programs do not have a stipend. The first year of most Psy.D. programs, it is manageable to have a job because students are only focusing on classes, but in the 2-4th year, students start putting hours in clinical sites. That makes it a bit more difficult but I know several students throughout all the cohorts that are able to manage school, practicum, and part-time jobs especially if those jobs have flexible hours. At the end of the day, it depends on the student and what they can manage but it's definitely doable to have a part-time job and do school full-time. Some of my cohort members will start small and over the course of the semester based on how they're doing with school rank up their work hours!
