It's such a great feeling when you discover another upcoming film that is filled with so much promise. Guillermo is a fantastically creative director and Frankenstein is an incredibly rich world to delve into. What do you fine people think about this one? Excited as well? Let me know in the comments and please consider subscribing for future updates as well as other various content revolving around films that matter. Take care and stay entertained!
I hope, given it's Netflix and he has full creative control, that GDT gives us a blend of Classic Universal & Bernies monster. I like that the actor is 6'5", so it ain't another under 6" guy like DeNiro.
Mr. Guillermo once said in an inteview about the FR. novel : "The monster says, 'I have such love in me, more than you can imagine. But, if i cannot provoke it, i will provoke fear.' As a child that was disenfranchised from everything, and that was in a world that was the wrong size, run by the wrong people, the wrong morale and the wrong rules, i felt completely outside of that, and i wanted some measure of control, and the measure of control i found was through fear.” I think this one will be a good one.
I love Del Toro, hopefully he can pull this off as he has been a wee bit hit and miss in recent years. I'm sure he will . And yes the Branagh version is a good one!
I enjoyed his short stories on Netflix but I missed his The Shape of Water film and haven't watched Pinnochio yet. But he is damm good at bringing his visions to life. Glad you liked the 1994 film also, I have fond memories of that.
I was hoping that you would be doing something on this project and here we are. If having something to look forward to is one of the keys to happiness, then call me happy. Lol. Just imagine the set design and production values and everything else involved with a Del Toro vision of Frankenstein. The Big Screen beckons. I'm also anticipating good things with the Maggie Gyllenhaal directed The Bride featuring a great cast including Christian Bale as the monster. Looking forward to further updates here on Entertain The Dude.
Yes, I need to cover that one also, good shout out. I'm sure there will be aspects of the film that don't agree with people but Del Toro always has style and substance to his films and I cannot wait for this one. Btw buddy, we get a full length trailer for Romulus today so I better get cracking when I get home haha
@@ENTERTAINtheDUDE Hey, thanks for the head's up on the Romulus trailer. I shall seek it out. I actually just picked up a copy of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, having never read it. A quick glance through it tells me it might not be an easy read. Lol. Real "old timey" like Bram Stoker's Dracula. Have a great week.
I am indeed a huge fan of Del Toro's movies, but really don't know if his version gonna be able to top the Robert De Niro version !?! One of the main reason my expectations are so high becouse of Mia Goth's presence! She is the rising star of the modern days cinematography 🌟
I like that he’ll bring his own style and flavor to the classic story and not just retell it word for word. The most faithful adaptation of the book that I’ve seen is the 2003 mini series
I found myself lucky enough to be an extra on the 1st day of shooting...from my experience... Guillermo has put every thought into making this film his best work.
That's awesome! They're filming here in Scotland now (for what I presume is the last few scenes before wrapping), and I've got a wee extras role as well! From what I've seen so far, they are sticking extremely closely to historical accuracy and leaving no room for error with the costumes... even for really small parts. They ain't messing around! Signed an NDA of course though so can't elaborate any further lol
I can hardly wait for this to come out. Del Toro did such a great job of The Shape of Water which was really an update of Creature from the Black Lagoon. I hope he gets the look of the creature right.
@@ENTERTAINtheDUDEagreed, the modernized pop culture version in my opinion is goofy and does not accurately depict the original themes are direction of the story. This story is deep, dark, rich, and complex
One of the reasons I couldn't stand Prometheus after it came out (apart from being such a disappointment) was finding out Guillermo was planning to adapt 'At the Mountains of Madness' until he heard Scott was making Prometheus.
Careful when wishing for "an accomplished director... finally ready to create their dream project" (Peter Jackson's awful 3h21m ""King Kong"). Why is "Frankenstein" any harder to make than, say, "Hellboy" 20 years ago? Could it be that de Toro is the producer for this passion project and it is HIS money on the line? "Abigail" is the 3rd straight vampire movie to eat-sh1t-and-die at the Box Office. "Renfield" earned $26m on a $68m budget. Eggers could put the stake in the heart of classic monster movies for good w/ "Nosferatu" - the guy is an arthouse director at best, I seriously doubt his style is going to make "Nosferatu" an earner during Christmas of all things. Ergo, Del Toro having to pony up his own cash for Frankenstein. I shudder at the thought because Del Toro is a steampunk H. P. Lovecraft crossed with Spielberg. He does tentacles and Kaiju. He's Cronenberg for kids. If he gets the monster right at least then I'm all in. Nobody has done that. It's 8 Foot tall, long flowing black hair, translucent yellow skin pulled so tight it "barely disguised the workings of the arteries and muscles underneath,” watery, glowing eyes, flowing black hair, black lips, and prominent white teeth. It's not an Industrial monster, it's a Romantic one. Written by a teenager raised by radical nutjobs who lost her virginity fucking her married lover on a grave no less.
Well it would be interesting to see later on what Del Toro has in mind for the creatures look. His creature designs in his films although can be sometimes very identifiable, they can be very effective. We'll see how things develop but I understand your hesitation.
In fairness, he did a good job bring scary stories villains to life without imposing his own unique style on the very uniquely creepy style of the illustrator
