They just spend 80% of that article ranting about gibberish and a half-assed "my dog ate my homework" excuse and then summarized it by saying "Hey don't worry about not having a new board because we're making new cosmetics that we know you can't afford!"
I'm actually excited for pets and customizable boards. You can't accept change? Don't play. I don't mind spending money it's my hobby and what I enjoy doing so what.

Basically it's a bunch of corporate talk to say: more paid cosmetics, less free cosmetics. Really disappointing. Boards and music are always a highlight of expansions for me and only getting one board a year is such a downgrade and probably the last straw for me and I hope for many others

While I get the desire to be hopeful, I can't shake the whole standard corpotalk they're giving while openly pushing for *more* paid cosmetics. When it came to Legends of Runeterra, they had pretty accessible card acquisition and TONS of paid cosmetics, from boards to emotes and pets and card-skins, and a good amount were well-polished and cool. If hearthstone just barrels down this path of "more premium cosmetics" without investing more into the game, modes, balance, play experience for the general audience, and card accessibility, then I'm definitely worried for how things will be turning out.
I think this is just an example of "blizzard getting back to their roots" aka stealing ideas from other games in the same genre and putting it into Hearthstone. Just look at Yugioh Master Duel to see the future of Hearthstone's cosmetics they sell boards(each player controls half the board's look) , Deck Buddys(Pets) & Portraits that do a lot less the Hearthstone's. Mind u we also saw them try to attach cards to preorders and they back tracked that due to feedback & we will probably see both types of new cosmetics as event rewards/ battlepass rewards
the whole "we intended to make something different with the boards but didn't tell you earlier" thing sounds kinda phony to me ; you're telling me they said nothing and didn't reveal the idea during the early streams even though they knew people would be worried ?
Oh great, they want to communicate their decisions earlier and better. Just like they wanted to communicate their decisions better and earlier after the quest changes went over like a lead balloon. That's not what they wanna do at all that's why they have to keep saying they do. They'd much rather try to make the budget cuts business people are demanding without players noticing and if they do just hope it blows over quickly. This is what happens when the discontent from the budget cuts doesn't blow over or go unnoticed.
I was wondering when they would have a "favorite board" thing to toggle. I wouldn't buy a new one, and they better not make us buy old ones. I hope it's not like Battlegrounds in that way. I would love to be able to dig in the garden of the old school board again.
no, it's not dying. There is and always will be a group of people who always think everything is always dying. I mean, they will be right one day eventually, but their opinion is so worthless 99.99999 percent of the time. So, the best course of action to the people saying heathstone is dying for the last 10 years is tell them stfu
i have literally played since beta, im done spending money on this game now. swapped to F2P when i was a huge whale. I dont like this direction they are heading.
They can say whatever they want but its just empty words. Been far too long since actions spoke for them. Now they are just milking the game as much as possible without any significant improvements to not make the game stale and boring. Novadays the game looks like cartoons made for kids, with no WoW thematics whatsoever. Just accept the fact that Blizzard is not the same standard anymore and move on. Literally all of their games are going downhill consistently.
I told u all, but u all pretending HS is on the right direction... just 5 fun decks, a lot of otk, greediest decks... every year and every 4 months u have to pay 100 dollars at least to be competitive at top 2000 legends. Every year is more pay to win, less fun and standard transforming in wild velocity... but that dont matter, no one cares, they just cares about winning and dont care about the state of the HS
what really bummed me was how esports really took a nosedive after covid ; obviously they couldn't do much during the pandemic but looking at the last world championships it didn't have as much hype as the older ones

2024 is the year of controversy. I swear not just with hesrthstone, with just about everything and everybody. Im happy for pets and custom boards i think its cool. I already got all the cards may as well customize my playspace. Most of my skins are from rewards and preorders I may have ever bought like 3. Legendary dk was one because i was pumped for dk release.
I think HS is a zombie. Once you reach the legend rank there is nothing more to do. HS is a game where you have to spend a lot of time to be good but they don't give you a goal to do it since they killed the e-sports. HS is just a more complex candy crush. I went back to MTG arena because you can have a lots of mini tournaments inside the game, and events where you can win even real boxes...It's challenging, HS is not.
Everything is dying age does that the battle pass made progression better but still no where near tolerable. People are gonna quit even if the sets are good if they can't play them
The only way this can be perceived positively is if all these customizations are free because then while you lose two free boards you get a lot more to replace that and it's all free so hey that's awesome. If any of it is paid though that's a big problem because that's when it crosses into the realm of taking away stuff from not just free to play players (which live service games shouldn't do because free players are content) but also whales that simply don't spend money on cosmetics and that's an even worse idea because that makes people who currently spend money on the game regularly rethink whether they ought to be spending money on the game by making them question the viability of the product. I get that saying the game is dying is kinda a joke at this point but how else should one interpret something free that's been free for 10 years being taken away and replaced with something you need to pay for? It looks desperate and like at a minimum the game isn't meeting business expectations. There's no reason they couldn't do the 3 free boards and sell all these cosmetics and customization options too since paid products pay for themselves and they were producing free board for 10 years just fine so why take that stuff away unless things are looking bad financially
It's blizzard, of course whatever new cosmetics they make are not going to be free. It's just a lose lose that they're trying to corpo-talk into a tradeoff.
At some point, the playerbase will mainly be whales or paying users so they wont really care about the F2P or free stuff at all. It already started IMO.

The gameplay just isnt fun anymore, havent really been last 2 years, the game is dying cause the devs dont know what they are doing and the game is very power-crept and uninteractive, I doubt they even playtest much before the release of an expansion. The downscaling in esports etc I dont belive matter much anyway, hs has a huge playerbase but most of em dont care about competative hs anyway, but the core gameplay and balance is whats killing the game
It looks like it is dying... at least this year. Quest drama, layoffs, multiple bad microtransactions (even worse than before, example: diamond and signature bundles and hero skins [too expensive]), closing duels, more and more unreliable too fast meta, weak events with almost useless rewards. Seems like they are testing things just to squeeze money (I mean it's a job after all... so I guess it is fair) and focus on the most profitable gamemodes. Maybe the game is not dead, but players and community aren't happy.
The last expansions' signature Tourist mechanic is clearly a scam to make player spend more dust on the cards of their preferrable class. Not only do you have to have all of the legendaries of your class, but also a legendary from another class. This may be countered with a "don't craft everything just the meta deck omegalul", yet some of the cards may suddenly become playable due to getting an unexpected amount of support in a future expansion so you need them too.

In some cases it is a job, if someone hired you to do so, but it's illegal after all, meaning it's not a job publicly, and if it would be public, then the job would cease to exist for legal reasons. If you are selling something of your design, then it is only to your desire what price you demand for people to pay. Doesn't matter, if the price seems to be unfair to you. The case is, people aren't forced to pay, making it legal. Scam? Then don't buy it, simple.
This expansion friggin sucks. The overall theme is garbage, no story, lackluster cards you don't really feel excited putting into your deck, more broken combo/OTK that's too easy to pull off with little to no counterplay. How hard can it be for a huge company like blizzard to make a good expansion? There's so many creative and passionate people out there.
Is Hearthstone Dying? I hope so! i think its time for Hearthstone, and just stop adding bad things to the game as they are doing now, the game is just not fun anymore and they are making the game worse and worse
This is by far the least skill expressive & garbage expansion In a long time. If they cut support for this game I doubt I would even care or notice anyways because it already feels terrible to play.
