Hwasa has undeniably one of the most if not the most unique voices in kpop and that has been said by knetz themselves. Her being an amazing singer is a fact. If you want to listen to some of her live performances I suggest: - Her performances on Sketchbook such as Fairy of Shampoo, You are Crying, We all lie, Stay. - Diamonds by Rihanna from the show lifebar - Twit from Gaon Awards 2020 - LMM from dingomusic

Hwasa is also my bias bc of the same reason, definitely her voice. But also her stage presence and her confidence just made me love her even more. And i really liked one of your points in the video since I thought the same exact thing, while Hwasa knows how to use singing techniques well, she just sometimes chooses not to, i feel like she's playing with her voice really. i am only a fan and know absolutely nothing about singing but yeah that's what I feel whenever I listen to her live singing. Recomended videos: the live version of "Don't" ft Loco, LMM, the rest of her Yui Huiyeol's Sketchbook stages (specially the song she did with Wheein "loving one person").

EDIT: omg I wrote this before Hwasa actaully sang Sinatra's Fly Me To the Moon!! (It's my favorite Sinatra song) I totally understand why people think Moonbyul will wreck you because she is just simply fantastic. But I also understand why Hwasa is your bias because, well...She's Hwasa. I mean there isn't any way around that, Hwasa is a force of nature that woman has so much power and class. Likewise I understand Solar biases because our dolphin laughing experimental leader has the power vocals of a Rock Star. This all comes from a honey-voiced WheeIn bias. In other words (to quote Sinatra) just stan Mamamoo.

Thank you. I love your reaction and the part about the c sharp 6. Wheein can definitely do whistle note, I don't think I've heard Hwasa do it but she comes close a lot of time and that was one time. I don't think Solar does whistle note either but she is a power house vocalist. Hwasa is my favorite vocalist in the group probably for the same reasons as you. I love her style and her jazzy soulful voice. Wheein and moonbyul are my next fav in terms of vocals (wheein for stability and honey vocals and moonbyul for tone and soothing vocals although she doesn't sing as much yet. Her rap is my favorite in kpop because of all her different techniques and styles)

Good commentary, thanks for your insights and perspective. Imo Hwasa primarily cares about her emotional connection with the song and I describe her as a method actor as a singer. She can be a vocal gymnast when the song calls for it but she doesn't go out of her way to display her technique and range. I'm heavily biased towards musicians and singers like her who are emotionally expressive rather than those who like to showcase their technical brilliance and there are several famous Korean singers with amazing chops whose music leaves me cold. This is where I quote Duke Ellington: It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. I'd love to hear your take on the way Hwasa manipulates sound in Mamamoo's vocal masterpiece Paint Me. I'm sure others have told you that Hwasa calls herself Rihanna's biggest fan and that that was Kei of Lovelyz singing the duet during the Queendom competition. This vid also included a snippet of I Miss You from Queendom, which is one of the songs I've recommended previously. Hope you get to it soon. 😂
@Bongi344
@Bongi344 3 года назад
Hahah radish collection 😂 Hwasa's vocal is raspy, very feminine and her range is totally impressive.. If there's one thing I'm not really a fan of her singing style is she tends to drag a lot (late attack? Sorry for my broken English). And sometimes her breathing's sound sounds louder the her singing. I find that some people find it attractive too. I really love when she sings jazz and bossas because her dragging style fits well there imo. Ahh you should hear her covering "When You Come To My Heart" at YHY Sketchbook. Also her song "WHY" (it's in her solo album). The amount of emotion she put in there ❤️

I’ve been binge watching your mamamoo videos and let me tell you - we had the same journey. Solar really intrigued me in the beginning and I loved her so much and was like “oh she’s my bias” but then the more I watched them, the more Hwasa really kept pulling me in and I was like .. oh shit. She totally crept on me. There’s something about Hwasa that resonates with me that I know you relate to. She may not have the best vocal technique but her voice is unique especially in the kpop industry. Along with mamamoo, mature vocals like theirs are seldom amongst girl groups. And god, do they sound like heaven together. I’ve grown up listening to jazz and so Hwasa’s voice going so well with this genre could slightly have an influence on her being my bias 😅 Anyways I loved your video! Even though you love her, you are so honest with where she lies with technique and I appreciate that because I learn more about her through you. Keep it up from one baby moo to another! ☺️

@@SirAustin yes she is so sassy in the stage but be aware she is very shy as all the members of mamamoo when they are out of there closest circle. Its hard to pick a bias in the group no just for they vocals but also for there personalities. Hwasa and her voice -jazz&smoky- , Wheein yes she has the most beautiful and angelical technique, Solar the vocal power and Moonbyul well the unexpected swag rap and her low deep voice. Love youre reaction and analysis to mamamoo.

I am also Hwasa bias. In my case I just love her covers, she likes the same kind of music I like and I love her voice, she sounds so sexy and misterious. I lost myself listening to her songs. In my case I don't really like head voices like solars but it's just my personal opinion she is an amazing singer. Then I like Wheein's voice a lot but her songs are not my style either. I feel like she is between Solar and Hwasa voice because sometimes I think one of them are singing but it's actually Wheein. I just wish she played with her vocal range and techniques more or I don't know... well my second favorite is Moonbyul I love her rapping and I love her solo songs. I guess I am more into those raspy and lower voices. And don't get me wrong I love all of them ❤❤❤

A certain German producer said that maybe it wasn't altered in the studio (the one that audiences hear) version but there might be some polishing on the vocals for the broadcast (TV and RU-vid) version ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wdBHvXOzdtU.html Tbh I've also wondered about that issue because in their latest IS2 performance, Meeting, where Wheein climbed up her vocals but then it suddenly sounded like cut or jumped unnaturally to a whole higher pitch. The camera also like immediately zoomed out of Wheein focused and showed us the face of a woman audience like judging her vocal .-. Or idk if that sudden jump was Solar because she's also holding her mic up ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FSxtm29Hem4.html

OMG I'm super enjoying your whole journey of discovering and learning about Mamamoo! And I love your honest opinions especially with vical techniques, etc. I enjoy learning from you too 😊 But anyway, I'm here again for a recommendation 😁 If you are looking for a "boy group" with authentic beautiful vocals, I would like to recommend checking out the band, ONEWE. Onewe is also under RBW entertainment (same company as Mamamoo). They have played as a band for Mamamoo for a number of times in awards shows and their concert. Their vocalist, YONGHOON, is an AMAZING VOCALIST with a very wide range and very very stable high notes! I bet you'll enjoy analyzing his vocals and techniques. To start off, you can watch their debut song - REMINISCE ABOUT ALL. It's a slow ballad focusing mostly on the vocals and little instrumentation. So you will really get a grasp of the vocalist's range right away. For other recommendations, here are their other title tracks: - REGULUS - Q (feat. Hwasa of Mamamoo) - END OF SPRING - PARTING (new song, released September 24) I'd like to recommend their other MVs and covers but will do it if you start checking them out already. I really hope you can give them a chance and love them. Thank you! :)

I love when you point out the performer´s mistakes ar less than perfect moments, it makes the moments when you praise them more genuine.

Would love for you to check Boa if you’d like ! She’s one of the origins of the industry (there are videos summarizing her path if you want to know more) she’s now more behind the scenes than having comebacks and staff. Anyway, thank you for all these videos I’m binging your whole channel at the moment 😂 I love how you focus on the vocals, took me a while to know how to appreciate it so it’s super interesting learn from you 💜

When you can, can you also do a reaction for kpop band Onewe. They are from the same company as Mamamoo and I think it would be interesting to get your analysis of their vocals and musicality.

Unfortunately Hwasa especially in the early days was so obsessed with Beyonce and co that she was always changing her natural voice to try to sound like them. Fortunately she seems to have more confidence in her own voice these days especially with the tracks she chase for her solo album this year. In particular "Intro: Nobody Else" and "LMM" which were both songs that she had a major influence on both their words and style. The singer you asked about is Kei from Lovelyz. It was a duet for the show Queendom and the song was chosen by the two of them to suit their own voices. Even though she is trying to sound more like Billie Eilish I would still say it is a great performance by both of them and would recommend reacting to them if you haven't already seen it.

The other girl she was singing with was Kei from Lovelyz, that performance was on a show called Queendom which was a kind of competition show for 6 female kpop acts. If you have the time I would recommend watching the show or at least some performances from there since there were some really impressive performances from everyone on the show along with some wholesome interactions between the different groups.

Mamamoo's performance of "I Miss You" on Queendom is something I would highly recommend!! There was a clip of it in this video. The full performance will definitely showcase all of the girls, especially Wheein's amazing technique
