Very tempted to get this, I have a box unit that allows car play and streaming through the oem unit. I’d want this for the added screen quality and access to different apps. Will MHD AND xHP work through it too? How is the reach to use the touchscreen?
MHD definitely works. I have not tried tuning with it or anything, just the gauges/engine codes. I would like to make a video about using MHD on it. I have not tried xHP. What would you want to do with xHP besides tune? Do you just like the idea of not having to use a phone/tablet at all and just do it all on your head unit? It's a cool idea but I'm not sure how I feel about using the car's power for the tuning device. Seems like something could go wrong but I'm paranoid when it comes to flashing the DME. As for the reach, it's a little bit of a stretch which depends on your seating position obviously but it's pretty similar to the stretch you have to do for the DTC button. My back comes off the seat a little for me to reach it. I mainly use the touch screen when I'm stopped though, I use the iDrive controller while I'm driving. I feel like it's safer that way. So far I have no complaints with the unit though. CarPlay always connects automatically and quickly and the screen has never frozen or anything. Only thing I have noticed is that the way the screen mounts to the plastic bezel is secure but not solid. The screen isn't gonna fall off or anything, but sometimes it's like it catches a harmonic frequency of the car and with go in and out of phase with it vibrating and not vibrating. I'd like to find a fix for that. I also need to relocate my mic. Not sure where to but I think it is picking up a ton of extra noise right off of the windshield.
Thanks bro! And of course my man! I need to make a video on how to use MHD with it. I’m thinking I may be able to do data logs with it which would be soooo nice to not have to turn off data on your phone to do them.
@@JasonJoyrides displaying mhd is a big part of the reason I want to do this upgrade. Also, a guy in one of the 1 series forums on FB was asking about the difference between the 1.60 and 1.84 maps so I sent him to your video. I'm putting new pads and rotors on all 4 corners on thursday along with M3 control arms up front and 12mm spacers in the rear. I'll probably do an xhp install later in the summer so I wanted to ask, when you did your xhp install did you flash your car back to stock then flash xhp then mhd with the xhp option or did you just flash xhp then just reflash mhd with xhp option?
@@base1y ayyy thanks for spreading the word! For xHP, it does not affect the engine tuning whatsoever, so no need to flash back to stock or anything before you flash. Also, when it comes to the maps, I would recommend not wasting money on the map packs, and just getting the flashing license. It saves a bunch of money and you won't end up just running a standard map anyway. The maps are kinda just for people that don't want to learn the different settings. The xHP tune is way different from engine tuning in the fact that you can't blow anything up by adjusting it yourself like engine tuning. It's more like learning how to cook on a new grill or something. You could just go with the settings it came with, or you could take the time to learn all the features and figure out what works best for you. I hope that makes sense.
Yeah I originally looked into an MMI so I could keep the factory screen, but I really wanted the touch screen and option to download apps from the google play store. I will be honest and say that if it weren't for the functional advantages and the fact that I drive the car to work every day, I definitely would not have replaced the screen. Everything has its pros and cons I guess.
I would say that music sounds the same but I have noticed a slight bit of distortion on phone calls or when Siri reads a text to me. It doesn’t bother me much but just something I noticed.
