Lovely analysis. I have become obsessed with this show since episode 1. It has truly exceeded my expectations and reminds me why anime is a superior storytelling format, when executed well.
My friend has adhd and she's the one who actually put me on to this show lol. We both love it for the nice chill time :]] I think people's aversion to it has more to do with taste than not being able to focus.
@@MattsCoolDog Taste obviously has something to do with it too. I'm just saying, almost every person I know who struggle with Frieren, and shows like it, tend to be the type of people who only watch things that splerg actions and explosions on the screen every 5 minutes or so, struggle with books, long-form content etc. And that, to me, looks like it goes deeper than just taste =P Also, despite the name, not all people with ADHD struggle with attention deficit in the sense most people think of it. It depends on which side of the spectrum you fall on. It's observed that many with ADHD are fully capable of focusing on one thing for a long time, almost to a fault. Conversely, not all people with attention deficits have ADHD. In fact, lots of kids nowadays struggle with attention deficits due to things like smart-phone addiction and the various insidious ways in which modern society undermines the healthy development of impulse control.
I have adhd it's totally a taste thing most people I see calling it boring are literally kids or those who pretty much only watch Shonen and isekai, I watch both and like some of those shows but I take them as they are braindead fun. These people can't watch anything that doesn't have constant conflict in it and don't realize what good writing and characters look like because they have never seen it 😂 there's also the whole Shonen thing where they have to compare the characters to other anime characters and have them fight in hypothetical battles
Them: “We want a new anime to watch that’s different from what we’ve seen before! 🗣️” Hobi: “Oh, well here is a lovely anime that fits that description ☺️” Them: “No not like that!😡”
amazing video. I'm a frieren obessed. Can't wait for the season 2. Its just perfecto. Peak of storytelling. Amazing characters and the best woman protagonist i have watched in me lifetime ? anyway amazing!
Coming as a manga reader and this how I describe it. Vinland Saga is the best manga I've read, but Frieren is my favorite. I think what it manages to do up to where the anime ends is to establish 7 characters and being memorable. We have the party of Frieren, Fern and Stark, but Sein gets enough character interactions to cement himself. But a underrated part is how it deals with flashbacks and almost making the previous party as important. Himmel is one of the best written characters in the series, just because we are feed his character traits. I think one thing that I've noticed people say is that Frieren is a SoL and I think this sets the wrong expectations. Frieren is an action adventure, but it allows itself to breath compared to something like JJK. Lastly, anime itself was a treat. The manga is fantastic, but getting the visuals and the music was a real treat. The "tournament arc" is concidered the worst arc in the manga, but it works so much better in anime because of how much action is packed into it.
I think it's fine that some people find it boring. At different points in life, people are drawn to different things, and value things differently. The start of the show hits much, much harder if you've faced similar regrets in your life. Someone may be able to sympathize with the emotion without the experience, but going through a similar experience can really change your perspective on the self-healing journey she takes afterwards.
Wait….it took people until half way through the season to understand that himmels feelings for Frieren , and as we are seeing more and more now Frierens feelings for Himmel go WAY beyond friendship?? Really??
Anyone that says Frieren is boring aint my type of bro, and i would not rescue them if i found them lost in the open sea bc if i did rescue them they would stab me in the back just for the fun of it
The "Frieren is boring" sentiment is catching out people with undiagnosed A.D.D. The contrast between the action & slice of life heightens both sides. Speaking of contrast, it's got a relatively subdued colour palette, except for when things have to really stand out. Has there been any big mainstream series that actually have slice of life elements? Spy Family has some, but they lean towards a comedic angle. For some, this may be their first slice of life & they aren't accustomed to it.
I love Fern! Though, I’m a tsundere fan, so, that’s to be expected. Loved her pouts. Top tier! I also think the hate comes from people who dislike tsundere characters or maybe people who only want characters to act a certain way. Like a Rem type character.
The thing is I didn’t even consider Fern a tsundere until this video because I genuinely found her pouts cute and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t really like tsundere’s.
@@andrewsanusi8462 It’s okay. Even as a tsun fan, there’s plenty of tsundere characters I wasn’t fans of. Erina (Food Wars) comes to mind. Irie from ItaKiss was too mean. Too horrible. I wasn’t huge on Shana (Shakugan no Shana). I enjoyed a lot of the aesthetic of the series, but when it came down to it, Shana character and series was kinda boring. The heavy exposition in the beginning of the series doesn’t help. Kyouya (Wolf Girl Black Prince) falls into the same spot as Irie, but Irie was way more memorable. Kyouya is forgettable. I would’ve forgotten his name entirely had I not just seen a post on the series on Reddit. I love Haruhi Suzumiya, but also hate Haruhi at the same time. Louise from Zero no Tsukaima is another, but, I’ve circled back to the series over the years and have a bit of nostalgia for it. It’s shockingly memorable. If the topic ever comes up, I will forever immediately respond with the knee jerk memory of my hatred for the series and mainly the romance progression or more so, the resets, my hatred for Louise, but after so many years I do have to admit, I remember her name, the show, and so many other details I don’t remember for other series. I still have so much love for the franchise. The heart of the series was Saito x Louise. This has to count for something. So, I guess, I’m tsun about Louise is closer to my opinion. Then, I wasn’t a fan of the cardboard cutout types that released in that boom years back. These are harder to remember, but I guess, the Asterisk War girls? Idk, tsundere seemed to get lost for a while, becoming more like cardboard cutouts throughout the 2010s than the tsunderes I remember loving in years past. I adore tsunderes like Taiga (Toradora), Chidori Kaname (Full Metal Panic), Any Rumiko Takahashi tsundere (Ranma 1/2 characters/ Inuyasha characters / Urusei Yatsura 2022 Lum), Damian Desmond (SpyxFamily), Ran Mouri (Detective Conan), Emi (Devil Part-Timer), Kyo Souma (Fruits Basket), Madoka Ayukawa (Orange Road), Russian Yuri (Yuri on Ice), Kaguya characters (Kaguya), Ogiue (Genshiken), and so many more, but these are the ones I remember the most.
Frieren does train, they train all the time that's why they were so prepared vs all the other mages, that's why their team works so well, Frieren doesn't address her weakness because almost no one could exploit it, Fern is a prodigy, it requires the next Flamme to exploit her weakness 😂 so to her it's not a big deal
@@Hobikage by the standards of the strongest mage in the world, Frieren's philosophy for magic goes against Serie's philosophy so I always take what she says with a grain of salt, she does seem to have high potential even for an elf so maybe but I never take anything Serie says at face value.
