There's a saying in Portuguese that really defines you two, "Quando Deus fez a panela fez um testo para ela", meaning when God made a pot he also made sure he made the perfect lid for it... Love your family!
What a great video! It was amazing the way you did it, going to every corner of the farm, showing us everything while answering all the questions. Well done! And your answer, Tara, to what you do when you feel down, was beautiful and I completly understand you, because it's just what I do ...I get out to my garden and my mood immediatly starts to change. Thank you for opening up to us. So good to see your parents, Tara. You are a wonderful family!
Way to go John! Neither my husband or myself have any university and guess what, we have done just fine. My husband is a Builder (comes from a family of Builders) and he can pretty much DO anything! He has a vocabulary that would rival a Professor, really, and I trust his judgement in all things! AND growing up, my husband and myself were raised by parents that Always had a huge garden! I would help my Mom can all during my summer school break! We would get up about 4am every morning and can until it got too hot in the kitchen, about 9-10am.! Our home did not have air conditioning. UGH! You are Living the Dream! Best way to raise confident, happy and useful little people into adults. Blessings!
From Two young lovers travelling with not a care in the world to becoming parents of two boys. It has been a joy to watch you grow and become the best parents any child could have.
You are brave! It’s a lifestyle that is so very appealing. Especially, thinking about putting down roots for your family. Seems Portugal is a lovely place to step into this next chapter and get comfortable with the changes and adjustments. We also lived a lifestyle that was out of the norm. So seeing your plans shape and unfold is very exciting to me. You will find that your children will be finding it resourceful for their own adult days! Our two daughters still espouse travel and both of them have turned into “builders” as best they can. The oldest daughter governs building structures and renovations for a college in their Michigan area. The youngest daughter, drawn all about America pursuing their primary jobs, purchase older homes and renovate the property, marshalling contractors and sometimes doing the work herself while living in the dust and inconvenience of producing a showcase home. Exciting, awesome when completed, they may do it again, attacking another delightful challenge! And, again!
That sounds excellent Virginia! Your daughters sound like they will truly prosper. We hope these early years with the boys will shoot them off in a direction that will Leo slow them many opportunities to thrive. We are excited to see the future but also keen not to rush getting there!! ❤️❤️🙏🙏
I can not say how much I admire the pair of you! Your organizational skills, your ability to juggle many different jobs while being a loving couple, good parents, new farmers, and successful RU-vidrs is infinitely mind- boggling. If you ever road trip through Colorado, call and say "Hi!" Lol
Hi Abigail, thank you so much for your lovely comment. Our journey hasn't been easy but we have loved every minute of it. We will definitely come and say hello when we are in Colorado friend 😊🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
That was an interesting episode and I wish to thank you for putting in the hours to entertain us by doing 2 episodes per week. Thankful and grateful to be sharing your journey. Your energy is pure, clean, you are good role models ...Families can learn from you 🙏 One doesn't need a degree to share knowledge, to be kind and encouraging in life 💛 Blessings John, Tara, Crusoe and Sawyer I hope your parents thoroughly enjoy their stay in Portugal 🇵🇹 Regards from CT, South Africa 🇿🇦
95k euros for 3 acres. Omg that is practically FREE!! BESIDES it is so gorgeous. I do so love it. I follow a few Portugal channels and yours is by far the best. Well, Indie Projects is awesome but wasn't a Portugal channel in the beginning, but a travel channel, like yours. Have followed them since they were kids!!
I think Thomas Edison is said to have put it that "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." and if he can do all he did being mostly self-taught then you're in not to shabby company, so don't sell yourself short with your handywork, John! After all, the first person to take on an apprentice to teach most likely had nobody to teach them, and they did alright! Just because you don't have a bit of official-looking paper that says you can do XYZ carpentry or whatever, doesn't mean your work isn't as good if not better than many who do! You are far more than just a hobbiest, my friend! Thank you both for another great Q&A video & *hugs * to you all! xx
You are quite right Kimberley, practical work beats any piece of paper. Thanks so much for all your support friend. We all send you lots of love and hugs. See you on Sunday 👍🏼🙏🏼🇵🇹🏡❤️
I love the education in Portugal. It is really quite good and prepares children to learn, have fun and be themselves. No Uniforms, no rules in terms of grooming, which I think is very, very good, so children are truly free to express their personalities.
Nous avons fait la même expérience il y a 53 ans !! Avec la chance de faire sur 3 niveaux 4 chambres, une cuisine, un salon. Nous étions très excités et courageux comme vous. Bravo ❤❤❤
John has one of the best educations that most never get to have which is travel. Theres nothing like it. I admire both of you tremendously. Your place is enchanting and all 4 of you are gorgeous.
After seeing you in the vlog Raising Voyagers where you built a bath tub, I said I just have to see you guys in your own channel. I have watched you since then. Old people like me find not just entertainment but I find great ideas and I also learn so much. What I like most is the continuity of each segment which is value-laden with wholesome tone. I have never seen or heard any inappropriate words or actions which is very rare nowadays. Surely, there were some stressful times, I understand, but you just persisted on discovering what would actually work. You are a great family and you are blessing us in ways we could never imagine by your example, by your kindness, by the way you handle your daily life. I pray that you go on influencing the world with kindness, hardwork, patience, and more importantly, L-O-V-E. GOD BLESS YOU MORE. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 PS I remember reading a long time ago that a well travelled person is a well educated person. It even equated travel with a doctorate degree. We go to school to get education, to acquire knowledge. The essence of knowledge is having it to apply it. A person may not have gone to school but as long as he learns from life, he is a person of genuine wisdom. Congratulations beautiful family!
Hi Judith, thank you so much for your lovely comment. We love having you as part of our adventure. Your comment put a really big smile on our faces, thank you ❤️🙏🏼🏡😊🇵🇹
Tara, thank yoi for answering my question. I myself live on a farm. In central Texas U S A. I will surely take your advice and go for more walks and remember to appreciate this life more. So blessed to be able to listen and see the country life I live. Blessings to you beautiful soul.
Hello Newby’s. You two will never not make money. You have so, so much to offer. Hello to Tara’s parents. The tree house will be wonderful for Caruso, Sawyer and parents when a get away to the top of the trees is needed😂. Bless all of you.❤
Interesting and incredible how You Tube has created opportunities for so many to discover and fulfill the possibility and dream within them. You two are excellent examples for any desiring to live beyond the ordinary. "If you can think it, you can do it" - IF you are willing to move forward. Too many are trapped by wanting all the answers before they begin. You can fail your way into achievements.
Tara and John That was a lovely Q&A thoroughly enjoyed it. Crusoe the little imp playing with his toy tool while you were in the tiny house had me laughing at his impish face while pulling the trigger ha ha. I do hope your mom and dad are enjoying their stay (which I am sure they are). I thank you both for sharing your story and taking us for the ride (Which I enjoy) very much and look forward to your episodes. Have a lovely day.
Hello Lieuwina. We are so glad you enjoyed getting to know us a bit better and that Crusoe could put a smile on your face. We have loved having my parents here with us and they have loved it too. Thanks so much for watching and for all your support friend ❤️🙏🏼🏡😊🇵🇹
Hi my name is Felis Anamaria camejo oldest son she told me that you responded to my mom on your video you made her so happy and happy I just want to say thank you so much you really made her again thank you thank you
This is the most wonderful, enjoyable Q&A I have ever watched! Thank you for the time and thoughtfulness you have put into this video! Really, every video. 😊
Just fabulous. I was brave and bought La Petite Maison back in the early nineties, it cost the princely sum of €13,000. It was before the tv programmes started enticing Brits to a place in the sun. It has been our other family home, full of love, lots of fun and laughter, it’s also been at times trying and challenging, but I’m grateful that I’ve realised lots of dreams there and I wouldn’t change the experience’s it’s given me. So, keep doing what you’re doing. Lovely to see Tara’s Mum and Dad visiting. Take care xx
I had a gut giggle when you said it’s hard sometimes to try and figure out what to show us. You could never let us down guys. Happy plants, happy chickens, happy children, beautiful homestead. We own 200 acres in Spokane Washington. Taxes are a gusher but it is so worth it. Private and peaceful. I’m so excited for the tree house… our boys had one they built in their early teens. It was pretty impressive and every day when driving home I can see it down in a canyon. My boys are now in their 30’s. Poor neglected thing still holds strong and signs of younger neighborhood children have found it out. The boys are planning on making it a bit more safe again and we will have a second generation tree house with a creek below it no less! Jelly of your dried out bamboo but omg with your fight against that dragon! 😂 Fly kites if you can! Crustose can run! OMG he makes me giggle. Loves
We are so glad you enjoyed this episode Laura, we love that your boys' treehouse is still standing. That is very special. Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️🙏🏼🏡😊🇵🇹
A great Q&A because you weren't just sat reading off a print out. You two just have amazing skills and are so personable you make us feel included. Great Tara's mum and dad are with you for a bit. I don't blame you for wanting to keep your farm to yourselves and not Airbnb it 👍 glad we had a bit of Crusoe and Sawyer in the video x x Have a great week x x
When you plant potatoes do not use regular store potatoes as they will probably have been sprayed to stop sprouting. Plant the seed potatoes deep as the plant will push up the lose soil . Gradually you may have to add more soil as you do not want the new potatoes to see the sun and turn green ( toxic) . Great fun can be had growing fingerlings for everyday use. Russets are good for baking. I like Majestic Purple and Desiree as two other choices. FYI potatoes come in many different shapes and amount of starch content so so your homework before planting. The Irish Potato Famine was caused by importing 2 types from of potatoes that were not disease resistant! In Peru there are over 2.000 different types . I like use cloth bags as the pots as they sit on top of the ground so excess water drains. When you harvest you can tip the contents out or the boys could just get their hands dirty. Look at potatoes to see if they are early or late…
Honestly, BEST Q & A ever. So great to get a complete picture of what's going on on the homestead and with your family in general. My husband I are complete opposites when it comes to educational background. I did try to go to college but I was to restless and undisciplined. My husband on the other hand, had a free ride wherever he went to school and did his undergrad, his masters and his Phd. without us paying a dime. But we've been married 43 years and have a general enthusiasm for learning and exploring that does not come with a "higher degree." We've traveled the world, a lot of it with our two young boys in tow and I wouldn't change a thing about all the "hardships" of traveling with young kids. We even traveled for 4 months in India and as John said, travel in India is BEDLAM. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Our full on buy property homesteading days are behind us but we do the best we can with our 1/2 acre lot. It's so fun to go on your journey with you.
We are so glad you enjoyed our video Renee, we loved putting it together for you all. Your journey sounds amazing friend, thank you for sharing some of that with us. We love having you join us on our adventure, thanks for watching friend ❤️🙏🏼🏡😊🇵🇹
Tara and John, this was a fabulous Q&A. I didn't ask any questions because I knew you would have so many. You both answered the questions really well. It was lovely seeing your dad and Crusoe by the greenhouse. I have been with you both for quite a while and I still enjoy each and every episode. Best wishes always, with love from Canada.
Thank you so much Peter, we are so happy to hear that you are still enjoying our episodes. Thanks so much for watching all the way in Canada, see you on Sunday friend 👍🏼🙏🏼🇵🇹🏡❤️
I am living in Northern Portugal by Sea. I totally agree with you, the best advice is to emerse your self in the local Community. The Portuguese are lovely warm and generous people on so many levels. I admire you both so much, especially with two young Children. You both are very Talented and what can you not do. Wish every success.
That was refreshing folks! Although I didn't get around to asking any questions, someone else asked them and they were answered! It was so good to hear some of your story and of course to have a glimpse at your parents Tara. Of course it wouldn't be complete unless your handsome little boys made an appearance! Enjoy your visit with Grandpa and Grandma!
Great job guys as usual.. i woke up early (must be a menopause thing) at watched the vlog at 3.30 am, i like the thought you put in the vlogs with clips from around the farm and not just sitting down and answering the questions. I look forward to the Sunday offering and hopefully watch it at a reasonable hour.
I find your RU-vid channel by accident. I wanted to take a vacation and wasn’t sure where. So I booked a trip to Portugal for March 2024. Can’t wait! And signed up for Portuguese lessons. Tchau!!
Thank you for an enlightening look into your life with all of those answers. It is alway nice to learn a little more about the people we "meet" on youtube.
Thank you for the tour and answering all the questions honestly. John, you can turn your hand to just about anything and should be very proud considering you've had no training. Practice and sheer determination has made you the very clever man that you are,. Tara, it must be wonderful to have your parents visit you and they're probably very proud of you both for achieving so much on your lovely homestead in such a short time. Lots of love 👏♥️
John you are the best. All this hooray about degrees, formal education is just that. What you do all your life shows the reflection of who you are intellectually, kind, honest etc. Blessings sir.❤
Only started watching your channel a few months ago and so glad I found it you are my favorite utubers by far, smiling happy genuine humble people with 2 beautiful boys
Yes John is rocking his T shirt. Did I miss the plans for family expansion? It’s all good. I’m just going to run you again. Thanks for letting us get to know more why we enjoy our visits with you. You two plus make a wonderful team. Joel is a blessing and wish him and his all the best for living richly. 🧤🌱🍀🌾🍇
Well done again! You and your stories are a true pleasure to watch. Love the way you are planning to raise your sons. You are giving them opportunities, setting the example, providing encouragement, and teaching then to live in a loving caring generous way.
Happy Wednesday, Friends! Linear! That's the WORD I was looking for when I compliment- ed you on your editing skills! 👏 When captions and visuals line up, it 'helps' a hearing impaired person (such as myself) follow along MUCH easier!!! So happy you have that style of shooting, too. It truly helps me out a lot! See you on Sunday! 🌞 Lots of hugs, Mikio 🙂✌💚
Hello Mikio. Ah thank you so much for the lovely compliment about our editing skills, we are so happy that it has made the experience better for you friend. See you on Sunday! Sending you lots of love and hugs 👍🏼🙏🏼🇵🇹🏡❤️

Another great episode - thank you again! Glad to hear you’re thinking of taking a break from filming when you go to India! If anyone deserves (and no doubt needs) a holiday, it’s you guys! Have a great time with your family. Love to you all! x
Thank you for the walkabout and the Q&A, Im loving your videos so I binge watch loads every day lol John you are very modest (British trait I know) but you are so skilled at the things you do, especially your woodwork, so embrace it. Tara learning about your childhood was really interesting, so thanks for sharing x
Thank you for a lovely episode. It felt like you quickly popped in & out of my home, with a quick 'who, why, what, where and how' update on your adventure. Loved it. All the best 🤗👌🏼🙃😍
Hello there my loves I’ve been out of the loop New Zealand had floods slips roads down 2 months away from hubby stuck in my country home my garden back to edible glory enjoying meals with hubby your video very enlightening loved the Q&A managing a farm diy two small lads lack of sleep our nights were musical beds one of us in another bed with a crying tot you both are amazing the work you’ve done a huge achievement fabulous neighbours😍👌So lovely your parents are there the boys are growing so fast can’t wait to see Crusoe your assistant potato planter Thankyou for a fabulous visit Amore💖💖😘😘👌👌🌟
Hello Brenda. What happened in New Zealand is devastating friend, our hearts go out to all of those who were affected. Thanks so much for watching friend 😊🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
When I watched your video yesterday, I thought how lucky you guys are, doing your own thing on your own hours, and getting so much time to raise your children and watch them grow. When my son was small, I had to be at work at 8am, finish my day at 5pm, then pick up my son, then on home to fix dinner, etc. It seemed like we were always rushing! You are smart & lucky to be doing in "your way."
I've known your channel through my sister, she is a big fan of yours, and she actually saw you some time a go while you were shopping on the leroy merlin in Penafiel but she was to embaraced to go talk to you guys.. we both love your videos.. thank you for everything
Another future project could be adding a second story above the Not Garage , with an out space / small patio where you can watch the kids playing down below. And sunsets, too, of course.
I've always said everyone is different, some learn better through reading others hands on, I'm like u John I learn and find it so much easier to be shown manually and get stuck in! 😊 Doesn't mean just because u learnt at college or university u r better! Lovely to see ur parents spending time in ur home Tara, and seeing all the work u have done, enjoy ur time together ❤
You are quite right Theresa, everyone is different and that is what makes life so interesting! Thanks so much for watching friend, see you on Sunday ❤️🙏🏼🏡😊🇵🇹
Hi you guys, Just wanted to say great video. It's so nice that you take the time to answer your viewer's questions💖💕♥️ Also spending your days together is the way it should be. I practically raised my 3 sons on my own because their father worked long hours to provide for us at a paper mill here in Wisconsin, USA. So I think you two are amazing parents and those boys are adorable!!! Take care💕♥️💙💚🥰
I am amazed that John has no training in carpentry! He is a master and his projects are awesome. So happy your Zim folks are visiting. Your Dad must be a wealth of info on farming. Loved watching your wedding in Antartica. Cannot wait for Sunday's episode.❤🐧
He is absolutely amazing Martine, I am so proud of him. Having my dad here has been incredible, he has given us advice about so many different things on the farm which we love. Thanks so much for watching friend, see you on Sunday ❤️🙏🏼🏡😊🇵🇹
That was fun and informative, Guys!Your videos really are smooth and professional, it’s obvious much planning and work goes into them. It goes without saying that having great personalities and two adorable sons really draws people here, and I’m glad you can earn a living from what you do. Onward and upward! x
I just watched the video of you getting married by a penguin 🐧 your vows moved me, I can see how down to earth you both are and how much you love each other. Looking forward to seeing the tiny house finished and the tree house for the children. Good luck with your plans to extend your house.
Might I suggest, regarding the tree house.... it's the perfect project to consider saving for a couple of years until the boys are physically capable to share in the building of it. It would become more personal to them then, more invested in its sense of "place" for them, just as this homestead is becoming YOUR place as you bring it to the expression of yourself. Just a thought... Lynn
Have either of you watched “the Biggest Little Farm”, it’s all about of what you are trying to do and it’s an amazing story about the revitalization of a dead farm.
It's so nice that you have your parents visiting Tara! Wonderful to have the extra help with the boys and I'm sure they are loving spending time with all of you!❤
Looking at your living set up so far, I was wondering if you had explored the option of extending your home entry (make a sun room that possibly could connect the long building you just gave a tour on. You both clearly have the skills to rebuild and update this building (replace roof,etc.). This would give additional bedrooms and/or inside play room for your children. Another family space could be envisioned as well. So much potential and fun adventures ahead. Just a few thoughts🤗
Your a good mix together creating a beautiful home for the boys. End of the day your tired but be really proud what you accomplished of all that hard work. Everyday your living your dream together ♥️🌄. Paradise for the boys 🤗
Hallo again i just wached your wedding in Antarctica. Was very beautiful. Im not so long at your channel. Your such a lovely family and i'm gonna watch all of your videos from the beginning. Thank you for sharing your yourney ♥️.
Most info videos are just talking heads sitting on one spot. I rarely make it to the end. However, yours is much more interesting by moving around and also filming your environment. By far the best info video I have seen! Many kudos to you both.
So proud of you young people. I envy your energy and enthusiasm. I have been chronically ill all my life and wish I had been able to do even a few of the things that you have done. I don’t miss an episode. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you so much for all your support Tracy, it means so much to us knowing that you never miss an episode. We are all sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️❤️❤️
Bon dia!! I have been watching you and family for awhile now, and really enjoy your family adventures… especially those in Africa, England, and Portugal!! I lived in Portugal for 8 years, and though my Dad taught at an International School my siblings and I all attended parochial/local Portuguese schools. As an adult I am now back in the States, have pretty much raised our children… but if I could bring some of them to Portugal 1 time, I would! I loved Portugal, and our family never thought we would leave but we had to after 1975. My parents went back after 20 years to visit. Enjoy raising your beautiful boys in Portugal; they will learn Portuguese faster than you!! Thank you for letting us be part of your life experience/adventures. May God bless you all. So wonderful to seeing your parents, Tara, visiting your new home!!! Your name Tara reminds me of Ireland… where I lived the following 8 years after Portugal. Adios!!!!
Thank you for answering our question, of where you met, and how. IT Was so interesting listening to all the answers. Enjoy having your parents Tara, how lovely for them to be with you and your precious boys, Love you guys, from a very cold and windy Dorset uk. Xxx❤️💙🤗
Love this episode, thanks for answering all these questions. Your children are so blessed to have such calm parents who allow them their freedom to explore ❤
❤Have a great week! Thank you and God bless! We watch Luca and Sara every week. So today we were blessed to have "met" you. Cheers!!😂😊 Carol and Doug USA🎉
Yay! We are so excited to have you join us on our adventure Carol and Doug. We always love hearing from you and are so appreciative of all your support. We post a video every Wednesday and Sunday ❤️❤️❤️
I love that you film those things that lift you up and include them in your videos, it gives us the benefit of all that too. I totally agree on being part of a community, there are so many reasons as well as those you mentioned that you just don't notice. Then there are those times when things are going wrong and there's someone who totally gets it. Sometimes they have the local experience to know just what to do, other times just being there is enough.
We have loved being a part of the community here and it has definitely helped us settle in better. Thanks so much for watching friend, see you on Sunday ❤️🙏🏼🏡😊🇵🇹
What do I do when I feel low and not in the mood of digging into the stony „soil“ of my new property, and not knowing how to work out repairing stuff: I watch The Newbys! And my other fav Portuguese channels (The Scotters and the wonders of Miracle Mountain). When My workload of digging and carrying stones weighs on me, I watch the Voyagers in Italy. ☺️☺️☺️ Thanks again for another lovely episode! The word of the week could be batatas, which you might learn until Sunday, simply meaning potatoes, but you know that already for sure! ( that’s Brazilian Portuguese, l bet in Portugal there might be another word!) Cheers from the land of the spuds (for those who don’t know it: it means potatoes in Ireland)
What a lovely humble couple you are 😊 so refreshing to watch you and your positivity and hard work for your little family. Love your farm and will continue to follow your journey. ❤
John you're just like my hubby Mike. He said, if you can picture it you can make it. He also didn't have any formal training. And he was clever. You might not have formal training, but you're certainly clever and you're also not afraid, to at least make a go if it👍🏼👏🏼💪🏼😃
