There should be a valid reason and a procedure to prove why a person would need to own a bird of prey. Owning a bird of prey simply because of it looking cool or being your dream is not good enough of a reason. Our role for these animals should be helping to conserve and maintain their natural habitats so they can flourish in the wild, their home. We should not be the ones to take that away from them, especially if it’s just so that we get to own them and train them to offer us their exotic companionship. There is a lot more respect and love in leaving the beautiful things just be, than to pluck them from their homes and physically owning them.

@@TheRoyalfalconer what is untrue? Habitat destruction is a terrible displacer of species, and unless birds are disabled or injured (as Oaky originally was), or captive bred, they shouldn't be taken from the wild. What is incorrect about that?
@Kristin2885
@Kristin2885 Год назад
@jrcoy4682 Unless he was gravely injured, it's likely a dumb human probably found a cute fledgling owl on the forest floor and took it home thinking it was alone and needed to be saved (this happens all the time with baby wildlife). Probably even while the parent owls were in the near vicinity or hunting. IF it was blown out of its nest by a hurricane or some heavy storm winds, a rehab is almost always able to locate the nest and place it back inside (using a tree climber) to be cared for by the parents. I don't know the history of Oaky, but unless he is too injured to be rehabbed/released or was rescued from a zoo environment, it's sad he isn't able to live as a wild owl. I've seen 'educational ambassador' owls but usually they're owls that have lost an eye or have some valid reason why they can't be returned to the wild.

Actually it’s 2 years being an apprentice minimum not 12 months. And you cannot be an apprentice until you have passed the exam and facility inspection. So you have that backwards. And owls don’t have fur. And they shouldn’t be wearing fur lined anklets because if that bird was doing anything else but living in the house and treated like a parrot they would be full of debris and create issues. And apprentices should NEVER start with an owl. And a giant hood is required not a cadge. And holding any raptor, especially a Great Horned Owl, without a glove and letting it ride on your shoulder is bad practice and sends a terrible message. And in order to obtain and keep your FALCONRY permit, you must hunt with your bird, falconry IS hunting. This is pet keeping. And this type of content does falconry and raptors damage. A real disservice to those falconers who are doing it right.

@raptorfalconry
@raptorfalconry Год назад
@@rs-mt6kl there’s a whole lot more problems than just treating an owl like a pet. Every single video is loaded with something illegal and/or highly dangerous and unethical. As a falconer, it is against federal laws to make money from a wild, native raptor species. So getting money from video messages sent as a gift using her owl is illegal. Calling in a wild GHO to interact with her captive bird, violates the MBTA. …and just stupid. Honestly don’t know how she hasn’t killed this bird yet. I doubt she’s even a falconer because based on her incredible lack of knowledge and understanding of falconry, training, husbandry and raptors in general, she’s never been through the process. And if she has and is an actual falconer; whoever her sponsor is should have their permits jerked. It’s this kind of garbage that puts those of us doing it correctly under the unnecessary microscope and increasing restrictive regulations. It puts misinformation out there and a majority of what she’s saying in these videos is wrong. So the public is being misinformed. If you want to compare what falconry is and what an actual falconer does, my channel demonstrates it. This woman pisses me off and discredits all of us doing it right. And for fuck sake! Put some damn clothes on! Coming up through the ranks over the past 20 years as one of the few females, we work hard to gain respect and this takes us back decades. No falconer dresses like that; we would be shredded to pieces in the field. And if she was a falconer, her nicely painted nails would be trashed. So yeah, your gut was correct; she’s a disgraceful fraud.

Yup, saw her vid pop up for me and it makes me feel like she just paid someone to sign off her papers... owls are almost never used where I'm from only for education and there is one person in my area who is trying out a (I think) a pygmy owl hunting and it's actually been very rewarding for them! Seeing this lady without a glove makes my skin crawl even if shes dulled down the poor bird's talons their grip alone is terrible and on her shoulder is such a bad message and it's so discouraging to see people like her who just own a "pet" it makes me not even want to be publically in the sport. She doesn't know what shes talking about at all and I feel like all she did was pay someone to sign off her papers and build/maintain her mews and such...

Ok a few things am apprenticeship is 2 years not 12 months. Jesses not Jessie's owls don't have fur. Owls are also not for first year falconers. As a matter of fact you need to be very skilled to successfully hunt with an owl!! This holding the bird without a glove and putting on your shoulder is horseshit and sends a really wrong message also 95% of all baby owls can be put back in the wild. Take this down!! You should have your permits revoked!!

Even a tiny one? Just curious. No relationship is ever perfect, just that usually people DON'T have crushing sharp talons or razor-sharp beaks - it wouldn't be the same if instead of a few words and maybe a slap, your significant other would affix knives to every finger and get dentures with a steel blade and THEN..... Even just a light pressure (from your avian friend's perspective) would inflict horrible wounds. Do you think it Knows how frail and vulnerable humans are?

I found a baby owl or he found me one morning while I was walking into work after parking. As I walked past him I felt something staring at me so I stop and looked around and to my amazement a tiny reddish brown & yellow fluff of feathers was staring at me from a shallow crevice in my building. He stopped me right before I got to the doors. I immediately invested as curious as a cat but didn't disturb him. I called the local wildlife ranger and they came. I asked if I could keep him but they said he was endangered species to me disappointment. I knew nothing of how the care for a bird of prey. He went to a better place but I still mess him. ❤️

I’m pretty sure she said in another video that this owl was injured as a baby, therefore was raised in a rescue, not the wild. So it couldn’t/can’t be released back into the wild now or it would be detrimental for the owl and he probably wouldn’t make it. Pretty sure she’s trying to give him the best life she possibly can and from the videos I’ve seen she seems to be doing a great job! Just sayin 😊

When I had a cat, she was indoor/outdoor. She could go outside by herself when she wanted to. In other words, she had the option to leave this situation if she wanted to. Does this owl have that option ever, or is he only ever kept retrained, caged, and otherwise in captivity? An owl is a much more wild animal than a cat. Did you put forth every effort to rehabilitate it so that it could go back to nature? I'm going to be very honest with you. If you say that this animal is a rescue animal only, and you had/have no choice but to keep it, then I am skeptical of that. Why? You have the look and vibe of someone who cares A LOT about looks, image, status i.e. somewhat shallow, materialistic, vain, self centered--not a truly loving and caring person. Kind of narcissistic, who doesn't understand what real love is about. I'm not trying to hurt your feelings and just be judgmental, but it does anger me when people do this stuff to wild animals because it is very deeply wrong. It is a type of slavery. And this issue is more important than your feelings or of those who "identify" with you.
