Is It Okay To Tie Your Beard? 

Hey, from another longtime long bearded guy, my 2c: 1) 100-150 lost hairs per day is still normal. Hair follicles grow at different rates, and each one will eventually reach its terminal length and stop growing, after which it will be shed. After a resting phase the follicle will produce its next hair, and the cycle will start again. Only get worried if visibly bare patches develop. 2) Dandruff / Beardruff is more commonly due to shampoo or soap residue than actual flaking skin. Avoid leaving your beard too wet after a shower, wet skin is more likely to flake and cause ‘ruff. When drying, don’t rub, just pat/squeeze dry. Beard oil definitely helps too. 3) As your beard approaches terminal length, its growth will slow down. Each hair follicle on your skin has its own terminal length, depending on the region. For example, your arm hairs will never get as long as head hair, same for eyebrow hairs and body hairs too. In the beard, the central mustache hairs are the shortest, gradually getting longer towards the mustache connector areas. Cheek hairs are typically not as long as the neck and under-chin hairs, which are the longest. Further lenghtening of the beard may take much longer than the initial growth, not because the growth slows down, but because they reach terminal (final) length. Such a hair will then fall out, and restart its growth journey. This is why shaving/trimming does NOT increase actual growth speed, it is just apparent. Do trim split ends though, it just looks better😊
