Yes we should use hemp. For concrete and plastic and even certain metals for industrial uses. It has a much stronger tensile strength and structure. But it’s also really light.
It's really not though. Well, it is but none of that is the fault of western societies. We don't dumb our plastics in the water. America, England, Canada, Australia, New Zealand all recycle their plastics.
there is fungus that consume plastics and oils.. Take it from the most educated unbiased educators in the world: the number one way to better the world is to give better nutrition to youth.
It's one of the byproducts of refining petroleum. It makes two-thirds of clothing, packaging for foods, large amounts of furniture, etc. You can't devote all this land for plants and trees, and still have enough land devoted to food to feed all the people on this overpopulated planet. Plastic reducing male fertility is a bonus, because there are too many people, causing too many problems, and experiencing too much suffering. Nothing less than a _final solution_ to suffering is needed for this whole planet, me included. It will be painful, but you can't make omelettes without breaking some eggs. 😜

1950’s? Are u kidding me? You couldn’t find a drink in any gas station in this country, not sold in glass, in the early 90’s. Plastic 2 liter bottles only happened in the mid/late-80’s. Coffee came in a metal can well after I started shopping on my own, in the late 90’s. Our ENTIRE society, feeding and medicating billions of people, is all built around fossil fuels. Farmers use machines that run on oil, to plant, harvest, and fertilize crops. The fertilizer is made from fossil fuels. Then we ship the food in a machine running on oil, to a building where other machines that run on oil, wrap the food in plastic, also made from oil. We ship food all over the globe in giant barges that run on oil. Then HALF of all food produced, is thrown away. It was always about profit. They don’t give a flying fuck about anything, besides their quarterly earnings reports, and what the board of directors thinks of it. This is LAW, that a corporation has to put profits over all else, which is why they dump shit into rivers and DGAF when a pipeline ruptured. Their punishment? $25 million fine........which is an absolute joke compared to their profits.
@@phillipsnichole2857 yeah clearly this nut job has faulty memory. However the point be made is justified. Oil was a booming business for long enough. I disagree with the rate we are "attempting" to get off it.
I suspect most of the plastic we inhale come from our synthetic clothing, blankets, rugs, etc (polyester) which is why I'm slowly rolling out all my synthetic fabrics over to natural fibers.
No, it comes with food. China dumps plastic on the oceans, sun and the salt breaks it down over time to smaller and smaller pieces, which end up inside fish. Who eats that fish? You do.

My Omie (grandma) drank the big Route 66 cups and would reuse them. Sometimes drinking out of them multiple times and just refilling it with ice water. Many times melting the ice in the hot Texas summer sun...unknowingly would melt the plastic in the drink. She eventually developed a rare cancer in her mid 60s that caused her arteries/blood vessels to rupture. The doctor would patch one spot to just have multiple other ruptures happen somewhere else in the body. On the 3rd surgery, the doctors could then see the bigger issue and my family made the call to just let her rest and not tell her what had happened to her body. She went from perfectly healthy to gone in a matter of 5 days. I forgot the name of the cancer, but the doctors at the leading cancer institute in Houston said that it was due from the plastics getting in her bloodstream and breaking down her insides. Ever since, I have tried my best to not heat up any plastic or drink from any plastic bottles knowing the dangers of them.
yes, I reley on copper piping in my house, to help provide copper.. essential for the body, as many deficiencies are the cause of strokes and heart attacks
Nah it wouldn't work, as soon as you start cutting into the micro profits of these massive companies they won't be okay with it. The problem is the goverment in general needs to set laws FOR massive companies that distribute products and make it illegal to use plastic as much as possible. That way the companies have no choice but to be environmentally friendly. Then we run into the issue of big corp being in the governments pockets so its hopeless.
Remember when bags were paper, syringes were glass, bottles & cans were glass or aluminum, etc. and those things were 100% recyclable? We can't eliminate plastic altogether but we sure can reduce its usage by a large factor 😉 This is what happens when a society gets lazy and corporate greed becomes the norm!
The corporate tools made sure to suppress the use of hemp, starting with the textiles and fabrics uses, so we were stuck without any earlier mainstream development of things like hemp based plastics. Now we're suffering because of it.
Listening to this podcast makes me aware of things that people don't want to hear about, I know that sometimes the info that he provides may not be accurate but it at least puts the issue in the spotlight, so people can do their own research.
I don't think complete use of plastic will ever stop but I'm sure it will massively decrease. More than that a few years ago they discovered a species of fungus that eats plastic.
Yes. There are strains of bacteria and fungi that can decompose plastics, just a matter of time before we find ways to employ these in land fills and have them eat away!

Plastic industry started in the 1960s. When I was a kid in the 1950s & early 1960s, there was no plastic to cover newspapers when they were delivered on rainy days and no tupperware, etc. In the late 1960s was when those plastic applications started appearing. I witnessed the transition as plastic items started becoming available.
Industries and companies are switching over to degradable plastics, which they will degrade back into its nature form, but the problem with that is its more expensive to do and it costs industries and companies more researching and development...meaning more money, so they are doing it, just not fast enough to switch over to better safer plastic.
@SlohShow yep, I'm the materials manager for a plastic mold injection company. I work for a company and we produce 100% plastic free biodegradable products. The technology didn't exist until about 2 years ago but it was in development for 10 years. With the strict laws in California that prohibit the use of plastics, (a new bill was just passed banning the use of plastics) the sky is the limit to the products we can make. Right now we are producing biodegradable straws and cutlery to the biggest companies and food chains. Aerospace and greenhouse biodegradable production is and will continue to be the future for the next generation

@@samanthaswade7053 yes, it has a much higher premium than plastic of course. Plastic is produced and wasted by the millions of tons a year. The last thing on their mind is "greener" for the environment. They care about profits
I went to Costa Rica in 2017 and one of the first things I noticed was that on trash day each of the houses only had like 1 small plastic grocery bag full of trash for the whole week. They obviously didn't have all their food come in plastic containers like we do. They didn't even have plastic trash cans to collect the trash in and put on the street.
hemp plastic avoids all these issues , and is good for environment , erosion and fodder feeding cattle . it even require almost zero water and likes arid soil : unlike cotton and trees for newspapers ..( which take decades to grow one tree , and you could get 3 or more yields of hemp on same acre that took decades to grow one single tree
Plastic is in the tap water is because of the PVC pipes used to transport it from your water main to and throughout your house. It sits in the pipes when not being used allowing the plastic to leach into your water supply. Good times.
I started using HEMP bags at my job recently. They are 25 cents a bag, however they are huge, they are nearly impossible to break, and they are EXTREMELY healthy for the environment. How strong are these hemp bags you might ask? These bags can hold eighty five pounds EASILY. Without ripping at all.
As a non-American, I find it extremely striking that in all sorts of podcasts, people drink their water out of plastic bottles or use plastic cups. We were in California last year and were shocked at how many disposable products, especially plastic ones, are used there in daily life, such as plastic dishes, plastic bottles, plastic bags, plastic cups, and so on. Even at home, far too many disposable products are used. WTF?
@@TYLERORTIZ2021 Of course, plastic products are also used here (Central Europe/Scandinavia) but to a much lesser extent for many years compared to the USA. The vast majority of packaging is paper or cardboard, and some products have eliminated packaging altogether. To-go cutlery is made of wood, straws of paper-cardboard. What nobody does, for example, is to use plastic cutlery, paper plates or plastic cups at home. We stick to porcelain, glass and metal... especially if you have guests. Exceptions are maybe children's birthday parties ;) I was just very surprised that Joe in his podcast is appalled about the massive plastic consumption... when it is obvious that plastic products and their consumption are still a central part of daily life in the US....
Consumers in the US value low cost, convenience and availability of products. If you want to be successful with a consumer product, it should be inexpensive, disposable and convenient.

Most recycleries don't actually recycle the plastic you send them. Between the low relative yield after reconstituting it versus the cost of doing so and the amount of new plastics produced every year reducing it's value as a commodity, almost all of them either send it straight to the dump (meaning a second trip in an exhaust spewing truck), or sell it to China who turn it into an even less biodegradable carbon product used in insulation and flooring and single use. My family has decided, after contacting ours (Behr) and confirming, that the environmentally responsible choice is actually to just throw it away. Outside of that, we really go out of our way to use as little plastic as possible in the first place, and reuse as much of it as we can. For example, using the tubs lunch meat comes in as tupperware.
We should just go back to cardboard, glass and metal. It's so obvious, but as long as someone is getting rich from plastic, that won't happen with capitalism in control.
Here's a thought: Babies (fetuses) are always conceived as female, then the Y chromosome kicks in and makes it a male. Could these phthalates be impacting the strength/effectiveness/delivery/etc. of the Y chromosome in early fetus development??
Yes, the toxins impair the differentiation of male fetuses. And this is just one example... imagine all the biological changes that we can't detect with our eyes. Not surprising to me that cancer is on the rise. Great video.

DuPont created plastic in the 1800's around the same time period that Hemp was made illegal. If it wasn't for hemp being made illegal, DuPont would have never made their fortune and we wouldn't be in this mess today.

Phthalates are plasticizers. Plasticizers are added to plastic to alter it thermal and mechanical properties to varying degrees. A great example of this is PVC. The PVC pipes in your house have no plasticizer and are very rigid, but if you have a blend of 60% plasticizer 40% PVC then you end up with a really flexible material like those used in IV bags in hospitals. The plasticizers for PVC are phthalate based and when you get an IV bag hooked up to you you’re basically being pumped with some amount of phthalates. Same with some PVC tubing that’s used in hospitals, lots of phthalates in those suckers. The issue with replacing phthalates is that they work really well to the point that a lot of alternatives being researched aren’t even close to producing the same level of results as phthalates. On top of that they’re pretty cheap to make because they’re fossil fuel based, compared to a lot of other plasticizers that work to some extent. Also micro plastics are a different issue than phthalates. We don’t know what micro plastics do to our bodies and it’s damn near impossible to have a good micro plastics study because everything is covered in plastic, especially in research. I highly doubt that the micro plastics in blood is real because you can easily have a tiny piece of plastic contaminate the lab easily.
Although we have improved almost every aspect of our modern life. The one thing that we are messing up big time, is what we're doing to our environment and all the plastic we are creating and dumping into our landfills and oceans. That's why we need to donate to initiative like #oceancleanup as well as reduce, reuse. I've cut all plastic bottle usage at home / gym. I use a Brita faucet filter at home and metal bottle for water at the gym.
I think dumping ANY trash whatsoever in ANY Ocean or Lake Anywhere should be completely illegal. Like, no fine go straight to jail illegal.. That would be hard to enforce but it would sure straighten things out quick.
Hold on now... let us not forget that the major seaboard cities are the ones that are taking trash and grinding it up and dumping it in the ocean. it is not entirely fair to blame all of us for this issue. Sure we used the container... and we disposed of it. So once I put it in the appropriate container to be disposed of I have effectively done all I can do. Most of the local governments approved disposing the trash in the ocean. I get it I could stop using the plastic. why do we not just start by disposing of it safely and hold people accountable for doing things like dumping trash in the ocean.
