I am SO EXCITED to follow along your story! At age 39 an accident led to my 6 strokes within 26 days, thus nearly 2 months in the hospital. Once I could survive without life support, I was still legally blind with significant hearing loss. Like your China prison cell, since I could neither see nor easily hear, what I carried in my heart was the only significant access I had to my Bible. In the past decade my sight has stabilized and some hearing has improved, but I am left with 6 areas of permant brain damage, including memory center involvement. Convinced for years that Bible memory would be "impossible" for me now, in early December, 2020, I watched a Susan Heck video about some whys and hows of long passage Scripture memory. God got my attention when she talked of the brain benefits, so I decided to approach Scripture memory as a form of brain training therapy. I took the book of Jude (25) verses and asked God to help me memorize it by the end of 2021. I had Jude, word-for-word, by mid May. I've now (Sept. 2021) added 1 John chapter 1 (10 verses), most of chapter 2 (29 verses, can get each section individually, but still struggle to stitch the sections smoothly together), and am firming up the first 8 verses of 1 John 3.
That's such an encouragement to hear! I'm sorry about the trauma of the accident, but it's amazing to hear how God can still use the results of that to grow you in different ways.
For me it was a laying in a brace on a hospital bed after my car accident. Can’t open up your bible app from there! I’m 36, hoping to get the NT done at 40, very thankful for your channel for the tips and encouragement it’s already provided me in the journey.
I can’t describe how HAPPY I am for finding this channel. Great inspiration and encouragement. I’m so excited and eager to start memorizing! God bless you so much!
Wow, I was memorizing a verse in each book of the Bible and not getting very far, stop and start. This is a very challenging video! Very convicting. I have been thinking of trying to memorize one of the epistles, Galatians being my favorite. I’m pretty old and have always had a very hard time with recall, but I want to try. Thanks for this story.
Wow your story is terrifying. We never know what might happen to us so it’s crucial that we memorize books of the Bible. I’m working on doing just that. Thank you for encouraging us.
Thanks for taking the time to watch! Feel free to follow along my goal by subscribing here on RU-vid or challenge yourself to start memorizing more Scripture: ▶ Subscribe: ru-vid.com ▶ Join me! www.biblememorygoal.com/join
Thank you! Because of your videos I have been encouraged once again to attempt Bible memorization. I struggled in the past and gave up, but I am looking forward to trying and succeeding this time. I am attempting the book of James and have successfully memorized about 10 verses. I literally have been praying to God himself for help because there is nothing I value more than God’s word and the beauty I find in it ( and yet I am lazy when it comes to Bible memorization). My plan is to encourage others within my sphere of influence to do the same. To hide the word of God in their hearts. Thank u again!
Fahrenheit 451 coming to a state near you! Thanks for your commitment, your content, and reminders of just how blessed we are. We’ve hundreds of English translations. Most people don’t even take a Bible to church any more. The persons teaching in so many churches in my area are Biblically illiterate and have no place teaching anyone. My pastor from when I was 9 years old forward still asks Where’s your Bible and remind everyone not to come to church without it. I’ve learned individual verses for decades along with short series of verses. Then I realized I’d read John’s Gospel so many times I might not have it memorized, but I have the gist of it, chapter by chapter. My first longer attempt was the Beatitudes md then started the whole Sermon on the Mount starting at the end of Matt 4 through chapter 7. Retaining all of it has been the greatest challenge. I’m still watching your videos and following some of the persons you’ve interviewed to try to learn new methods. Not very successfully so far, but I might not have tomorrow or maybe forty years. So I will keep reading, studying, using the grids, and attempting to memorize the Sermon, Ephesians, more of the Psalms, and hopefully eventually at least The Gospel of John. Thanks, Bro! Maybe you can have a conference when you return to the states. I’m in and out of your home area a few times every year and don’t leave terribly far away. Grace and Peace! And why not the Lord’s Prayer in Koine and Aramaic! I think I will.
So great to see your effort. How can we not be known as the people of God's Holy Book. I've been studying Hebrews for a couple of years. Just started to memorize. (Only 303 verses). This effort you are doing could change many lives. Where can I get a bible memory t-shirt?
Just discovered your channel, really enjoying the videos. Hope you get lots of views as this is so encouraging and honestly just kinda cool to do and have others inspired to do it.
I really appreciate this. I have also memorized a couple of books of the Bible and am inspired by what you are saying and doing. Right now I am looking to find out what effective methods others are using to help them with memorizing Scripture. Another thing that is just as important is 2 Tim 3:16-17. Even if you aren't able to memorize the Bible it is imperative we know the doctrines of the Bible as this is primarily where the devil will be seeking to deceive God's people. The Bible warns us about false doctrines and doctrines of devils. 2Tim 4:3; 1 Tim 4:1
I’m not starting from 0, so that helps. I already had a number of books memorized by the time I started. But yes, it’s still going to be a very difficult goal.
I'm thinking of memorizing John or Romans. I want a deeper walk with God. Which one would you memorize? Thanks for sharing with us. You are an encouragement. I didn't know this was possible.
Thanks for the comment! I’m so glad it’s been encouraging. So if you’ve never memorized a whole book before, John and Romans are big ones to start. If you want to, I’d say go for John since it’s a narrative story of Jesus, but I’d also encourage you to consider a shorter book to start. Something like Ephesians or Colossians. Just a thought!
@@BibleMemoryGoal Thanks man. I've often thought of wanting to have as much of God's word memorized as possible in case I got into a situation like you got into in China. I appreciate you!
@@BibleMemoryGoal Just to give you an update, I finished memorizing the 1st chapter (51 verses!) of John. I'm starting on chapter 2 this evening. Thanks for your very motivating website!
This is awesome! I just turned 47 and I didn't think I had enough time left to memorize the entire New Testament. What is your schedule? How many verses per day / per week?
Obviously it all depends on your time frame. Mine is pretty aggressive, but even if you only memorized two verses per day, you could finish the New Teatament in 10 years.
Hey Josh! Can you use the same memory palace for multiple verses or lists? For instance, if you have 30 "files" or numbered spots in your office, can you use those same places/numbers for a different Bible chapter or list of items? Thanks so much for your content -- I'm just discovering it and it is inspiring me to give Bible memorization another try!
Hey Adam! Most memory experts seem to agree that reusing a memory palace usually isn’t a good idea. Check out my video interview with Ron White for more on that. 👍🏻
I don’t believe there is an “easiest” translation. Here are my thoughts on translation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BEQrmN0wxi4.html
