Join Passport to Travel's David White as he visits BEIRUT, LEBANON (Part 1) | Is it Still Dangerous Here? The US State Department lists Lebanon as a "Do Not Travel Country" for US citizens, but is it really still that dangerous here? Come join me as I discover the beauty of this wonderful country that used to be called "The Paris of the Middle East"!
My name is David and I have been traveling for the past 30 years. I am a typical American married father of three, but what makes me not typical is I speak 6 languages and take solo trips to some of the most exotic countries in the world. Join me as I visit every country in the world.

It wasn't a bomb, it was a fire. Large amounts of ammonium nitrate were stored in the port of Beirut. A fire started which led to the explosion. It was not an terrorist attack. great video, thanks for sharing. Here in Brazil, where I'm from, although my family is of Italian origin, there is a very large Lebanese community. Lebanese food is popular here. I hope one day to visit the Paris of the Middle East.

Thanks so much! I love both videos. I watched a lot of RU-vid videos about Beirut and other Lebanese cities and they varie a lot depending on where people go and their individual experiences, but you painted such an accurate image about the place. And the food...Bon Appétit! Really cool! Thanks so much

Hi, how was the internet speed in Beirut? Are the restaurant prices high and only in USD?
@passporttotravelwithdavidw9764
Internet speed in Beirut was pretty good. Restaurant prices are both in lebanese lira and dollars and it's not that expensive compared to the USA, which has now become quite expensive given recent high inflation

Great video, How much would I have to take in cash to exchange for 2 weeks? Cheers
@passporttotravelwithdavidw9764
Thx for watching. Since you don’t want to pay with credit cards as you will get a horrible exchange rate, you need to pay in cash. Hotel + meals + travel, etc and you are looking maybe at $120-$150 per day including a semi nice hotel
@julioc4978
@julioc4978 Год назад
I’d assume Western Union would give you a bad rate as well of you wire money? I’d feel uneasy carrying big pile of cash 😂
@passporttotravelwithdavidw9764
@@julioc4978 yes you need to exchange money at black market banks which gave me 80,000 Lebanese Lira instead of the standard bank rate of 1500 Lebanese lira

This sounds like Argentina currently
@passporttotravelwithdavidw9764
@@julioc4978 yes with hyper inflation there as well

Omg how was Baghdad? Any issues ?
@passporttotravelwithdavidw9764
It was a lot safer than I thought it was going to be being a solo traveler. The area that I stayed in wasnt the best (Saddoun), especially at night and it was tough because I can only speak basic arabic and I didnt find a lot of English or any other languages spoken. Otherwise, no real issues outside of exchaning money at times in the banks
