I left the UK 22 years ago. At that time I worked in the space/satellite sector and had a well-paid but stressful job. you made the point. a job gives a comparable lifestyle in most countries. yes I agree. But I do not think people are leaving the U.K. because of money. I think people are leaving because it is a unhappy, angry, lonley place to live. No community. Crime is high in the U.K. because moral standards do not exist. A legacy of preaching "selfishness is good" by Margret Thatcher. and of course lack of religion taught in schools. Drugs permiate the whole of society, different drugs being popular at every level. In a last decade average salaries in UK are up 30-40%, prices doubled, on some things trippled, In a meantime my home country salaries trippled in decade, of course prices also went up but not as much as salaries. Majority of my friends and people I know left UK back to their home countries because life standarts there equalls UK, or even above. Living in London: - Groceries are in fact quite cheap still and I find it affordable.(compared to other developed nations such as France, Spain, Japan, Germany where I lived). - Car insurance in the London is relatively more expensive compared to other developed nations. - Utilities are very comparable to other developed nations and I dont find that London is excessively expensive. - Weather is underrated, it does not rain as much as people claim and the temperature is quite mild throughout the year. There are no natural disasters like earthquakes, typhoons or hurricanes. - Food is excellent, alot of diversity in selection and budgets. (And Im comparing it to traditionally highly rated countries like japan).

I also think that groceries have reasonable prices and are not expensive. But it also depends on what we're comparing. If it's another capital city, then yes, it's not bad. But if we compare other places in Britain, London is more expensive. But I completely agree that the weather in England is not bad at all compared to many European countries, where it can be -20 in winter and +40 or even more in summer.

A country is made by its people and the moment they give up their culture and identity you not only lose the people but the spirit of the nation. What remains in london of its native culture is the architecture and some old geezers but everything else has been replaced. Its honestly grim. Funny how so many people are blaming Tony Blair. New Labour wasn't perfect, and I was no fan of Blair, but we can't deny there were huge improvements in public services from 1997-2010. So many people with short memories. With the Tories, the UK is hurtling backwards to the Victorian age. Inequality is higher than ever before, so many working people are having to use foodbanks, and public services are being deliverately starved of investment because the Conservatives hates public services. The Nasty Party has done incalculable damage just in the last year, let alone the last 14 years. NHS collapsing, cost of living crisis - which those sociopathic lunatics are completely ignoring - crumbling schools, dangerous drinking water...the list goes on and on. And, of course, Brexit - taking back control of what we never lost in the first place. Meanwhile, a patronising, out-of-touch billionaire treats us like 4-year-olds as he constantly spouts meaningless crap about his "plan" and "delivering for the British people" as if the government is doing us a colossal favour simply by doing its job. And yet, despite the unrelenting misery that is Tory Britain, millions of people still think the Nasty Party is the most qualified to run the UK. Turkeys and Christmas spring immediately to mind.

The NHS in complete chaos. Schools gripped by certain ideologies. Parents unable to lay down any boundaries to their children. Do I think it could be improved ? Sadly no. Sadly, I agree with you. I was shocked when I found out about the crime level here and how the police deal with it. The whole ideology of “total freedom” is fake. On one side, you can be whoever or whatever you want to be, but on the other side, nobody can express their opinion freely. People who would rather live on benefits than go to work are another problem. They know how to manipulate the system and get huge benefits. That’s awful, especially when you realize that you pay for this from your own pocket with taxes, working hard. In some countries, the benefits are so small and it’s so hard to get them that people are forced to work. But here, you can just claim benefits and not work at all if you know how to game the system.

I think it depends a lot on personal prefernces and individual situations which country is best. The perfect country doesn't exist but one can adjust to every environment and appreciate both positives and negatives. The problem appears when the negative aspects are way too high compared to the positive ones. This is what is happening in the Uk, the positive aspects are not enough anymore to justify being here or set a life in this country. Especially if you are an immigrant and don't own a house or don't have stellar wages, the Uk is a bad country to live in. I'm italian and I can say the weather is way better than England, also many areas in Italy are not extremely hot, but I found after living in London a few years, that the weather here, despite not being too cold or too hot, it's extremely hard as well. It's hard to endure months and months of grey and windy weather, it makes some people depressed. This influence the mood a lot and the health in general, especially because we lack vitamin D most of the time. Vitamin D deficiency is also been studied in relation to higher sickness and heart disease illnesses. Therefore, I think it's better to live in a country with more sun in general. The NHS is a joke in my opinion, I had just a thyroid malfunction, and I had to run back to Italy to pay private visits since the NHS here WOULD DO NOTHING. Fron a small issue it became a big one since they never pay attention to me. My eye started to bulge, and I have to take medication daily (thanks to the italian doctor who saved me). For months the gp ignored my hyperthyroidism and did nothing. I'm not sure why, maybe they thought it would solve by itself, or they simply don't give a shit, but it's a bit ridiculous.... I realised that's probably why there's so many deaths for heart failure, doctors won't help you, as they did with me. I had a super high heart rate and started to lose weight but they did nothing. If I followed the NHS advice I would have to wait one month to get some visit, and maybe they wouldn't help me there as well. Extremely poor service, very poor knowledge and skills on doctors part, almost verging on malpractice. I would suggest everyone to ask private advice if they don't want their life at risk.
@LivingMyUKDream
@LivingMyUKDream Месяц назад
Oh wow, that’s really disappointing. It sounds like you've had a challenging experience with the healthcare system in the UK. It's unfortunate to hear about the difficulties you faced with the NHS and your thyroid condition. When you pay taxes you want to have an equal service and know that you’re secure and the government is covering your back. Healthcare providers need to prioritise patient care and provide timely and effective treatment. But from your case, it’s clear that you can’t rely on the NHS and that’s sad.

I am moving back to Hungary after 22 years. Those who have bought a house in the UK, even from the 10% ( you must put down for mortgages here), equity of your house, you can buy a house there in a peaceful, safe area. Education level is higher, Universites are free or cheaper if you are a citizen.. A professional can earn a minimum of 500 000 HUF =1110 pounds. Food is relatively cheaper. Petrol and energy prices are cheaper as MOL ( Hungarian oil company is the biggest oil company in the central European area and just recently proven that they aren't greedy and stupid to destroy themselves)As families being supported in Hungary, you get dependening on the number of children you have great tax relief. Look into buying a home ,it is largly supported by government. With non repayable social /housing funding from government eg you could get 10 000 pounds of non repayable funding if you have children to buy your first home. Also your salary per month is 500 000 but 100% of your travel to and from to work is paid for or a generous minimum of 30 forint/km is given if you drive... On top of your salary, you get bonuses that are not taxed plus food, healthcare, and well-being vouchers around £300 per year (Szépkártya) you can use in a spa hotel if you want or just spend it on food that is per person working. Most companies provide your phone equipment, car, and pay for your phone bills. Children where both parents work get free childcare at their schools where they do their homework there.....You get the usual baby bonds and get slightly less child benefit lump sum than in the UK....If you have 3 or more children, the mother is exempt from paying tax on any employment for the rest of Her life.School meals are free if you have 3 or more children regardless of your earnings in this case .... shall I continue the benefits of moving to Hungary lol

For those that leave the U.K., there are many that plan to come here, and I’m not talking about illegal migration or people from third would countries. Also, a lot of those leaving the U.K., most voted to remain in the EU, and will never accept the new reality Brexit happened, but it did. And many that leave the U.K. are EU nationals who have no loyalty to this country and have no problem to move elsewhere or in the EU. I’m British and I love my country. 🇬🇧 And for those U.K. citizens that migrate to the EU or places like Dubai, turning their back on the U.K. If they have a problem abroad, and for whatever reason they get into trouble. Who’s door they gonna come knocking on? Yeah you guessed it, the British embassy, pleading for help after stabbing the U.K. in the back. Yes crime levels are high in certain areas of the U.K. and some neighbours don’t talk to each other but it’s important to remember there are nice parts in the U.K. where neighbours look out for one another and you feel relatively safe. Stop! Scaremongering!
@LivingMyUKDream
@LivingMyUKDream Месяц назад
I agree with you and I’m not scaremongering. But those are the reasons that I found why people are leaving the UK. As I said, I like this country and built my life here, living in a nice area. However, if any foreigners come to Britain, they don’t usually go to live in those quiet nice places with friendly people, most of them want to move to a big city where they will experience all kinds of things.

Your assessment of the UK is reasonable from your point of view however, one needs to relate today with what it was like 20, 30, 50 years ago to understand how dramatically different (worse in all respects) today is from those times. The culture is being eroded/changed more every day, a culture that was respected and that contained long held positive values that are largely now gone or close to it! The full spectrum of 'economics' has declined into a total disaster today. Large scale constant immigration (since the 50s) plus more recent illegal immigration has been and is at a volume that is unsustainable just by sheer numbers relative to the size of UK. Plus, the mix and size of immigrant cultural differences has created not only division throughout the country but within individual communities that's simply is too large to positively be absorbed. Assimilation is now not happening so anger & separation is destroying the peace and tranquility of everyday living that existed in the past ! National & global politics have merged to the point at which current Govts are more interested in what they can personally get from the global corporate influences than trying to manage the UK on behalf of the people! In my humble opinion, within 10 years, the UK will begin to have serious violent confrontations of all manner on the streets, and given how poorly trained/managed the police are and the ideological influences on them, such open street confrontations will become too much for the police. So, I think the coming decades will contain some very serious issues and little to no solutions to all of these problems?
@LivingMyUKDream
@LivingMyUKDream 2 месяца назад
I agree with you 100% on all aspects. I’ve read a lot about the UK and its former strength and beauty, which now seems to be fading. While it may still fare better than some other countries, it’s not as vibrant as it once was. I see many people refusing to assimilate here, which isn’t fair. If someone chooses to move to a country because it offers better prospects than their homeland, then what’s the point of trying to replicate the same values and culture they left behind? In doing so, they’re essentially rebuilding the country they escaped from, which seems stupid to me.

I've lived abroad, and despite the loneliness at times and the difficult periods you face, regards culture differences, language and food, I don't regret it, one iota. The country has its identity taken away by losers in London, mass illegal immigration, and belittled by too many people who don't appreciate our history and achievements. Since 2020 and the unnecessary lockdowns, everything has fallen apart. We are still led by donkeys. Town and services are run down, the NHS is under constant stress, and crime in some places is forever rising. Can't blame people for going away. It's just you tend to come back in the future. And that creates its own problems. But if you can, leave for a career abroad, something you have a chance to do, such a short teaching, enjoy it, and have few regrets on your decision. We've always been expensiveere, well since our entry into the common market. Actually Europe has been a thorn in our side. Brexit said "do one" and I'm glad we voted out, despite the problems faced by an inadequate Brexit agreement done by useless Tories. We need better government, an appreciation of our history and culture, to regain a sense of identity, and to bin what's dragging us down, both people and concepts.

Also we should point out that all of Europe has similar problems, sure living in an Ellenic island with 0% unemployment rate sounds great, but the prices here are also quite high specially for housing and health care. Also Europe as a whole has a huge brain drain problem since it's very hard for someone with higher education to get a descent job. Although Scotland feels like another more benign world in many respects. Would have loved to once live there.

The UK is a nice place to live, but it has its challenges. Also, it heavily depends on where you live and what you prefer. If you move away from big cities, you can live a very comfortable life surrounded by nice and friendly people. But in cities, it’s a bit rough.

I lived in the UK for about a year, made an account on some dating app and in a month I got matched with over 100 men and 4 women. What does that mean?

Oh wow, that’s interesting 😀 I have no idea, mate, why is that. I haven’t tried any dating apps. Probably I’m more old-schooled and prefer to meet people in real life. Maybe because I spend too much time working on my computer so every free minute I like to go outside and see real people 🙂

It is because you did not set up your sexual orientation on the app. Set it up and you have what you desire!

You did not mention Council Tax ☹

Yeah, my bad. But when I did my research about the reasons why people leave the UK, I almost never heard about council tax as a reason that make people think of leaving. However, I mentioned council tax in my video “How much I spend in the UK”.

That’s the main question. And I would like to know the answer to it.

The taxes in the Netherlands are higher, but we can see that the government spending the tax money on a good way, our infrastructure is fantastic, we have a very good working transport system. Our social safety net is good, better than in the UK. We have good water, our food is save. Less discrimination. Our health Care system is not great, but much better than in the UK. And we have a housing crisis, too few houses, and house and rental prices are much to high. We still enjoying life.

A friend of mine has lived in the Netherlands for 10 years and he really liked it there. But then he met a girlfriend and they moved to her country. But he still likes to visit the Netherlands and says that it’s a beautiful country. I’ve never been there but would like to visit it someday.

My husband is Dutch living in the UK. He says UK is better place to live atm than Netherlands, especially for young people.

@@ema3774 Than we have a difference of opinion, when youg people are living in the Nord of England, their are no jobs, and when there are somewere else jobs, there is such bad infrastructure, then they can not work there. The housing situation is the same as in the Netherlands, and rent or buying a house is to expensive. The Weather is the same as in the Netherlands, but young people can work and live in other country's. Social safety net is better, University is cheaper. And we have less homeless people and drug addicts.

Thank you for your opinion. My husband says life is cheaper in the UK. The healthcare is better (he had infection in his ear, doctor in Holland said it is nothing use water with salt, 2 days later UK doctor prescribed antibiotics and sent for investigations. He has a job here that pays double than in Holland.

@@ema3774 In the UK people has to wait for months to get an appointment in a hospital, and yes i am glad that in the Netherlands, our doctors dont discribe for everything a anibiotics, they trey it first on a natural way. To much antibiotics make's you resistance. About his job ?, i dont know, perhaps in a financial job'. Because in the EU the financials salary's have been restricted, To prevent a financial crisis as much as possible. Like 2008. And for other jobs, will be higher, but not to much. And the cost of living is lower in the Netherlands than in the UK. But I wish you and your husband all the best.

Fed up of working and having the majority of it taken off me with high taxes! Extortionate food prices, & Sadiq Khan interfering with our human right to be free! You cannot better yourself! A second job fully taxed what the hell! Back to the Caribbean for me!

You’re absolutely right. The government takes as much as they can. The more you work the more you pay. But the prices are rising much faster and the services don’t match the amount of tax we pay.
