Grades you earn in core academic high school courses are foundational to your chances of admission to any selective college or university in America; however, that's only part of what college admissions officers will be considering when deciding whether or not to accept you.

I would love to see a video on what a homeschool student can do to be competitive in elite college admissions.

I enjoy this channel. But it is silly to even consider entering Harvard (or any top 10) with a 3.0 GPA.... I would suspect the baseline is taking the hardest classes with an unweighted GPA of 3.8.... Then at least a 4 on several AP exams and a great SAT score. That won't get you into a top 20... But if you don't have it, don't bother.

Ivy League sports do not offer scholarships to my recollection, nor do they dabble in NIL. If you are recruiting to play there for sports it might help having a higher GPA than 3.0 to know you've been tested for future success at Harvard. It would be sad to go for sports but then fail out of school.

Hey, Can you please make a similarly answer the query for graduate admissions. If someone has 3.2 GPA in undergraduate, can they possibly make it to any of the ivy league (not necessarily Harvard) by compensating it through GRE/ work ex/ publications or something else. I'll be really grateful if you can answer the same!

Hello, Craig. How early should HS students start preparing for SAT/ACT?

Start the SAT vocab words in 9th grade. 20 words a week during the school year. 4 of them a school day during breakfast.

@@greg8354Did you make your own flash cards of the vocabulary words or did you purchase them (if so which ones). Thanks.

@@Isassi007 Good question. I purchased flash cards but I don't use them. Online you will find various lists of SAT words. From 350 to a 1,000 words. We go through the lists until we find 4 words she doesn't know. (I'll often use use previous words too). The problem with so many of the definitions on the flash cards or SAT lists is that the definitions aren't sufficient. I'll use a definition from Webster's instead. She's been doing 4 words a school day for well over a year. (she gets a $1.50 a word as motivation. I started with smaller amounts, but a $1.50 is what it takes...). I would like to think she would do it without money... She's 16 and finds the idea of doing it for free to be amusing.

@@greg8354 thank you for your reply, my son will be a high school freshman in a few months and will definitely have him practice SAT vocab words. We all know that "test optional" schools are no longer the standard as most colleges and universities are returning to standardized testing.
