It's not always so clear whether you should get an advanced degree in marketing. It certainly is a crowded field, but further studying comes at a cost of time and money...
So what do we do? It depends on your goals and where you're coming from. In this video, I'll share my thoughts on what you should do depending on your career paths and/or entrepreneurial interests and pursuits.
Where am I coming from? I double-majored in undergrad (marketing and operations), got my MBA in marketing, teach a marketing college class, and have run my own marketing consultancy since college.

Love it!! You hit ALL of my MBA and Masters Degree concerns. This also aligns perfectly with advice that I have received from several others who have gotten their Masters and MBAs as well. In my particular situation, I actually wanted more than I actually need it. Spiritually it will be in accomplishment and this is very important to me being that I am an INTJ Myers-Briggs Personality type. 💪

I’m doing a Master’s in Marketing as I did commercial photography as my undergrad and have worked for clients since I was 18. I usually was delivered the briefs by a marketing manager and I felt, in general they weren’t great at budgeting, expecting too much work for what their budget was. So I figured with my studio photography and video background I’d probably benefit from some Marketing knowledge and doing the Master’s would give me that within a year. Plus it looks good having a Masters or MBA, but I’d definitely would say if you’re coming from a different discipline and want to enter the field then it’s worth your time. However, if you already have an undergrad in it, learn some new skills and get some industry experience as you really don’t need a Master’s in my opinion as you’re just learning the same stuff

I agree entirely. Going to school for marketing master's yields little benefit if you already have a marketing degree.

I have an M.S. in sustainable management but planning on going for an MBA in marketing since work is going to pay the majority of the MBA degree. While they touch base on alot of topics like responsible management and economics, I am mostly doing the MBA since its from a larger institution then my M.S. was from. So more connections/larger alumni network, more well known although still a state school, although more research focused when my M.S. was from a regional school, I'm hoping since I work at a bank the marketing degree will open more doors internally then my environmental degree has thus far.

Best of luck! The networking element can be super powerful. Keep in touch with your school's alumni association/department and career development center or equivalent. They can keep you in the loop of what's going on and where you can get more involved and in touch with others.

I have a degree in economics and politics, but I feel like this is not what I want to do and I'm struggling to find a job relating to my degree. So now I'm considering doing a master's degree in marketing as the subject really interests me. Would you recommend that?

Hi! I have an engineering degree in IT and have been working as a developer in IBM for three years now. I'm planning to go for Masters in Marketing in UK. Do you think that would give me good job opportunities in the future, given I have no marketing background?

Super late, but absolutely. IT & Marketing go very well together. Technical Marketers are held in extremely high regard. Imperial College has a great MSc in Marketing Strategy.

What do you suggest i take masters in after i finish marketing in college??
@consultingmba
@consultingmba 2 года назад
This very much depends on your career path. If you know where you want to be in 10 years, start researching what degrees help people get to that place - if any particular degree. Unfortunately, I can't give you a clear, honest answer, because it's really true in this case that "it depends". It's good that you're exploring ideas though. Just keep asking questions and seeking out answers and you'll be fine.

@valiantpramana
@valiantpramana 2 года назад
@@basilhiary1072 Take MBA if you want to work in the office. And if you got a good grade and able to get a high gmat score like 700-800 try to aim for a top bschool. Keep in mind that usually you need to have 2-5 years work experience before entering an MBA program.

Hey I studied international relations for my degree and I’m thinking of going for MBA for my masters. Do you think it’s the right thing ??
@consultingmba
@consultingmba 3 года назад
The decision is very situational. I would recommend to look at where you aspire to be in five years, then decide based upon that. Be as clear as possible as to where you want to *realistically* be. Research what is expected for that role. For some, the MBA might help you leap forward to that ideal future. For others, it may slow you down as compared to getting right into your work. There's always the option to do an MBA part-time after you begin a career path. It really depends on what you want your path to be and what your local market demands.

Would a second bachelor's degree in marketing make more sense than the MS in Marketing? My BA is English, and I have no current experience/education with marketing.
@consultingmba
@consultingmba Год назад
The actual decision depends on your situation and your goals. I would aim to pursue the graduate degree over a second bachelor's if the additional work, time, and cost is relatively similar. I would imagine that it can be close, and the advanced degree inherently carries a little additional weight. Two undergraduate degrees in similar disciplines can sometimes be achieved with just a few additional classes, but if you're coming with an English degree, you would likely need to take all core business school classes either way. Go with master's, unless there's a compelling reason to do otherwise. The material itself is candidly very similar in both undergraduate and graduate marketing programs.

@@consultingmba What sounds harder to your "ears"? 1. Masters Degree in Mathematics or 2. Masters Degree in Statistics?
@consultingmba
@consultingmba Год назад
@@scholarlyanalyst7700 I don't know that I would use "harder" as the measure. Perhaps instead, think of it as "more valuable". Thus, that depends upon what you are pursuing. However, I would opt for Statistics. Mathematics provides an overarching view of the world, while Statistics does that with a more refined specialization. (I did just hire a Statistics graduate, which I believe held more perceived value than if she had studied "mathematics"). There's no "correct" answer to this, but there's one perspective.
