That's not what they meant. They mean that the old hardcore player would need to relearn how to play the game, with just how much the game would change if the bugs got fixed.

+nem tudom First off, yes SC:BW is amazingly balanced (arguably the most perfectly balanced asymmetrical multiplayer game ever made) almost entirely by accident. It wasn't designed as an e-sport because e-sports didn't exist. SC:BW essentially created e-sports. In terms of how the glitches are incorporated into strategies, search RU-vid for "StarCraft: Brood War Pathfinding and Micro with Day[9]" to see an example of how that works.

Well, actually It will. For example, if path finding And unit gathering mechnism are fixed, units will gather And move much better just like in SCII. But the problem brought by this is that DPS of grouped units will also be improved which inevitablly cause the pace of the game becoming faster. Then just like SCII, one mistake , you are dead. +nem tudom For example if you change path finding then units will start to move a bit different and with curent balance every move\engagement will be changed in hard to predict way.. For example scarabs (bullets) shelled out from Reaver will be hiting more often and Terran wont be able to defend against that... if you fix muta stack bug then one of the most important strategies for Zerg to defeat Terran wont be valid anymore.. I really can counting them one after another but there is no point cuz its too many of those things... SC:BW was balanced by gamers after many years of gaming and searching for strategies and often using bugs to balance the game and thats why currently its most balanced RTS game.. SC2 was artificially balanced by developer so to this day SC 2 players have many balance problems.. I was SC 2 betatester and when Zergs started to complain about Siege tanks what Blizz did? They nerfed their firing power... They should've waited for gamers to play and try to find some ways to counter that but instead they did it themselves and its not a right way for achieving balance cuz it should be more organic.. ^^

You can remaster a game and fix the glitches/unintended gameplay, such as horrible AI pathing, etc. You don't have to *remake* a game to fix those things. A Remake is when you change most of the game from the ground-up. A Remaster is when you re-release the same game, with updated graphics and sound, and fix the bugs. Skyrim SE wasn't a Remake, it was a Remaster but yet it fixed a lot of bugs and glitches from the original Skyrim.

A problem occurs though when you consider that these bugs have become such a facet of the game to its core audience that changing it would completely ruin it for them. The game is almost 20 years old and its obvious that Blizzard is wanting to preserve the original game as it was for current systems. I like to equate this remaster to the Star Wars films. People give George Lucas a lot of shit because he covers up the original Star Wars films and their flaws by releasing Special Edition after Special Edition and makes no effort to release a high quality version of the original classics that made the series famous. Yet when Blizz releases their game as it was nearly 20 years ago the fans complain saying that they should have changed it and covered up the flaws. That's really the point that I don't get.

I have the game. It's the old cutscenes (that do look dated) in high resolution. It would have taken years and absurd amounts of money to remaster all the cutscenes. Still kind of a shame. It's still worth it for the single player though. The writing was much better in SC + BW than in 2 and the hd sprites/resolution look great.

It's still there in the game's directory. It's just been moved away from the main menu (temporarily, as I understand?) so a great big "Purchase Remastered Now" link could be placed.

Everything's completely compatible. The underlying engine is almost completely untouched, and you can go back to playing your Strip Sakura maps again.

I completely agree. Those who complain that it's not worth $15 are persons who disregard other people's work as unworthy. I purchased it because I recognize it's worth the effort. Of course you are generalizing, but it's true, most SC players understand this.

They didn't change the engine because that requires a LOT more work. They simply wanted to give it a cleanup job and sell it again. Because this way you can sell the almost 20 year old game again without much work.

Yea lets see how many people outside of korea are still playing it 6 months from now. bw and sc2 are 2 very different games and people play both. Neither game is really better at this point, they're not even trying to do the same things, it doesn't even make sense to compare them.

Competitively and mechanically sc1 floors sc2 in depth. No contest. Sc2 is much prettier and way less clunky. They have different strengths.

+Dwayne Thomas - The game was meant for Korea. That's why it's a 1 time purchase, and not a monthly fee. They've recaptured a lot of Korea's attention and dollars. That was the entire purpose of the remaster.

Meh. WC3 is overrated. I don't like the Hero system in it, I miss the old WC1 and WC2 where you weren't limited by an army size. What's the point of an army when you can't get more than 10 units on the map at once? lol. That's not an army, that's a platoon. They put too much importance on the hero, and fighting the CPU is pretty much impossible except for story battles (and even some of those are way too overtuned), because the CPU levels the hero up while simultaneously building its base, AND it cheats because it only takes 1 gold out of the goldmine but gets credit for 100 so it will never run out of gold.

What do you mean? In 1v1, sure armies sizes are 15 units and 2-3 heroes on average, less early game, more late game. In team games this can get up to 30 units. In custom games, there are strategy maps that let you control actual massive armies. What WC3 did with the hero system was revolutionary for the RTS, RPG, and MOBA genres.

That pales in comparison to armies in WC1 and WC2 where you would have 50, 60 units to command and you'd have actual battles, armies vs armies. The hero system might have been "revolutionary" but not all revolutions are good.

Blizzard was actually going to go full on hybrid and make the game an RTS-RPG. They realized while the concept was amazing, they decided they wanted to separate their ideas so they can appease the fan bases while also being innovative. The origianl intention for WC3 gameplay was to be an RTS with a 3rd person and hero leveling focus. That didn't happened, and instead they created both WC3 and WoW. Having a larger army simply doesn't entail better gameplay. Blizzard simply wanted to do something completely new in the RTS scene, and it exploded in both popularity and critical reception because of this.

I agree. And making those kinds of changes is walking a FINE line. Fixing even simple bugs can completely rewrite the PVP landscape. It may seem lazy to some. But it was the right call to leave everything untouched.

Then of course, the nonsense that it makes it more 'casul' to have an easier to use UI is nonsensical elitist bullshit spouted by a dipshit who thinks that everything needs to be hard and everyone needs to 'git gud' like himself(even though I doubt you're very good) and is the same sort of nonsense spouted by people who get mad about there being easy modes in a game that they themselves don't have to use. SC2's casualization isn't about the "UI", it's about being given easy buttons and having the game largely play itself for you. Shittier is your subjective opinion. I (and many others) think that SC2's mechanics of allowing the player to push F2 and a-move their whole army with one click is by far the shittier option. It's all opinions. :P But that's why there are two different games here, nobody's gotta be sad. That's exactly my point, too - if they turned SC1 into SC2, it'd be pointless - people who want a casual experience have SC2 - people who want a 'hardcore' experience have SC1.

yeah, and SC2's story is not that bad either, even though cheesy at times. I think it's a worthy successor. Chris Metzen after all was the one who wrote it, same as SC1.

That seems quite artificial. It is ,at its core, a UI limitation to make the game challenging. I'd say that competitiveness in a game does usually not come from lousy UI, only annoyance comes from lousy UI

@@3roderick3 I like what you are saying but I guess it's almost like comparing two race car divisions. One division where only manual stick shifts are allowed. The other where only automatic transmission cars are allowed. We could both say the focus should be simply on turning, driving and knowing when to pit stop. But there truly is an appreciation of skill for those that can do all that WITH the manual shift. But I guess we'd better get rid of all macros if we wanted to really make it hardcore lol.

+1 on the first point: it is not as much bugs as it is AI/engine/physics limitations: the way players are able to deal & overcome these mechanical limitations, combined with the strategic aspect of the game, are exactly what makes the competitive scene attracting. Blizzard, following the requests from its community, did just that, and fulfilled their mission at 100%. Saying that this is a "cheap" way for Blizzard to make money is completely missing the goal of what was done here. After all, the original game is now totally FREE. And for people who may still be frustrated by the twisted aspects of the game, and want to get a "smoother" gameplay experience, well... SC2 is still there! and it's only 5€ more...

yeah, this is basically the comment I wrote/have been saying since they first announced this remaster. Quite a few people were on forums crying for it to be casualized like SC2, but that would have frankly pissed me off if they ruined my Brood War like that. Also it would mean the game couldnt be cross-compatible with non-remastered. :p

@@ieorlich I've been messing with campaign. There's plenty of people playing. I tried a ranked match and he was like 2800 MMR and stomped me. Unsure how many low level grinders exist.

@@ieorlich Yes, there's a lot of F, D & C players, which is like the lower ranks. I don't know exactly the amount of people playing, but when I connect in the evening there's always 10 versus custom games (free for all, melee, 2v2/3v3/4v4) and 10 UMS games (defenses, bounds, impossibles, special forces, the list goes on and on...). Thing is: if you wanna go ladder you'll have to start putting a lot of time to learn everything or you'll be stuck in lower ranks, which isn't a bad thing tbh, a lot of people, me included, just play for fun. I always make a 3v3 and in less than a minute the lobby is full. Or if I want to relax a little I just play a defense which, like the 3v3, gets full on less than a minute. I
