I like how you broke down the cost vs the necessity.

Thank u for giving the facts of the story at the end… always good to hear the money side of bids and jobs. Everyone wants something for free or cheap around here. Charge em double!! Cheers

If you don't have to build a new bed from scratch you are way a head . If it is similar to what you want tweaking it is way easier . Building a New bed took about a month for me and I only did it twice

Priced material for my second bed build doing same as the last bed you posted but for a Ram 3500 and around Indiana steel quote was around $4,000 delivered NOT including the 10-12 inch 90's. I already have a break and roller press and doing work myself. But if I charged myself labor, I'm sure it would be a lot. The last bed I built was around 80hrs so just for labor that would have been 9k-10k. Not including tools, rollout wheel or any hose reels

Great video! I built a nice A frame with left over tubing and an I- beam, I made it so I can disassemble it and move it by myself.

Just modified a 3rd gen bed to my 2nd gen a lot of fab to make it work but it was easier and less time consuming than building one

I just got done modding an Aluminum deck off a 17 ford for my 18 Cummins, under 2 grand for material and time. paid 8k for the deck. 10k ish i decked my truck, its not as pretty as one custom made for my truck but its about 1/3 the cost, so for me at this point taking and old deck and moding it for my needs works much better. one day ill get a custom build but for now it will serve me well and is 10x better than a skid. always good to watch your channel Austin

Hey Austin, very well said on the cost wise, I have a crownline flatbed on my 07 2500hd classic, and brand new I think in 2022 it costed me under 4k, now they are more than likely close to 5 probably, and it's just a flatbed with lights in the headache rack and a built in receiver hitch, if I was to buy a 1 ton dually, I would more than likely go for a used flatbed with what they cost now, they aren't cheap

If the wheelbase and the distance from the back of the cab to the axle is the same, then use it.

Good morning, that used bed saves a load of time. Where did you get that neat and clever roll around shop chair that you use installing your used bed. Thanks for another great video. Take care and good luck. 👍

was talking with one guy about the AAM1050 in the chevy vs the dodge AAM1150, said he thru out the 1050... but is the wheel side is the same, not throwing it out one could cut the center out add some pipe and its then a 3rd axle for a trailer... some of them go for cheap. just need to trim the axle shafts off and drill a hole in the cap to add oil. always down to inspection, but $150 and 6 hours of off time with some loose ends... that's 6k. electric to hydraulic brake conversion is another thing... the shear amount of nonsense a trailer goes thru....... don't ever even go by the tail loading instructions for weight orientation or nothing, they just dump all kinds of junk on them to take down to be... scrapped. can sometimes buy welding rod by the scrap weight +tax, whole sale price because they go right back into the loop.

Man the bed on my truck is so freakin old, It's been on two of my trucks and at least two trucks before that. Iv'e changed it alot, and rebuilt parts of it as they rusted out over the years, It's at least 25 years old maybe way older I don't know. Iv'e had it for 13 years. I always think about building a new one. But in reality all the cost and time spent isin't going to make me any more money. At the end of the day it's just a big chunk of steel to haul your tools around in.

On some of the beds, you have made or modified, the fender looks not far at all from the tire, how does this work and allow for suspension movement? Also is linex like a fancy bedliner paint?
@nilsandresen9912
@nilsandresen9912 5 месяцев назад
Airbags probably for the suspension thing. And linex is a industrial grade coating you can use for all kinds of stuff, including truck beds. It‘s one of those plastic coatings

Also, does it change the structural strength of the steel when you add that much heat to it with the torch? I’m just curious and I don’t know the answer

Anyone who is starting a business should be very very careful to minimize/avoid debt. Debt it the thing that will challenge your business when the economy slows again. This is when renting is better than owning. Leases are easy to break, and are limited. Debt is not such, the borrower is slave to the lender. Think of these things when spending any money or incurring debt in life and business. Functionality and cost are what matters when it comes to outfitting a business.

It varies. A cheap welding machine for 3-5k or a guy could spend almost 30k on a welding machine. Plus all your tools. The total of that depends also. Depends on what a guy specializes in.

this is an ignorant question ( aren't all questions ignorant? i wouldnt need to ask them if no) but a welding rig being assembled by another welder? one could imagine that a man building a truck like this might be a welder and would feasibly do this himself... or herself. by the time the video is over perhaps this mystery might reveal itself ... even so you do great video ... and personally i do not weld a stitch
