This scenery is truly outstanding. Your comparison is sound as well. I didn't get the original following many complaints re 28R/10L and I'm glad I waited. I will def get this. Your comments are valid though for those upgrading, as the 'total' price is very steep. That said, I also think it's worth upgrading for those who did buy the original. The additional work they've done is amazing, and totally re-works the airport. This is clear from the comparison. Let's hope other future airports are of this quality.
@@carolebaskin138 yeah, I understand where you're coming from. As Bobby says though, it's basically a new airport - the V1 must have been pretty poor I think. A lot to spend on both though - I agree. There should have been a sizeable discount for 1st buyers.
Nice comparison you did there. Well done! I purchased the scenery the moment it was released. 1, because Dublin was one of my first ever sceneries for MSFS and 2) I missed the new runway being active a long while now as you also mentioned. Regarding the price, as you can see the amount of work gone into the new V2 then yes the price they charged is quite reasonable, but from customers who purchased V1 already, they could charge more less, something like €7,- or £6,- or so. Anyway, a nice new addition for my Europa collection. CYaaaaaaa! 🛩️
The video is amazing - fair comparison. But being frank here, this isn't worth calling an update. I'd have to correct you and MK (if they said it's an update, although I haven't found them to have, only people assuming this and sh**ting on it that they have to pay for an 'update' which this, is totally not). It's a whole new product point-blank, and the existing customer v1 discount provided by MK is simply a thank you to loyal Dublin customers - not an upgrade fee package. Yes, the new runway may not be in v1. Maybe we'll see an update to this in the future. But I think this was a positive business decision from MK, so we can enjoy further updates to Dublin v2 at a better standard than v1 could've ever been polished up to. It belongs in the era of P3D/FSX, not MSFS in 2023. Sorry to say to those who don't agree with me, but it's a fact when you look at what else is available. EVERYTHING is different, I've compared the geometry of some of the major models. The only object which I can find to have been reused is the base of the tower - that's about it, everything else simply doesn't match up. The flat 3D geometry of the ground is also completely different, this was evidently made from scratch. I can't find a single re used texture from the old version of the scenery! People really need to take a chill pill, watch this video and understand the facts before they go and rant on the internet about this glorious company who made Dublin again from the ground up to the standard that is now in 2023 (which has massively changed since v1's initial release, so I don't blame them for this - in fact, v1 was a port to MSFS from P3D). I'd also like to address those comparing iniBuild's Heathrow v1, ""v2, v3"" product to MK-Studios Dublin v2 ""Upgrade"" - iniBuild's v2 product wasn't that much better than v1, visually it was improved in areas, but I could make an essay on everything that was left the same since v1. Same goes for v3. This is no comparison to the calibre of upgrade that is, the MK-Studios Dublin v2. I am a loyal customer to iniBuilds and MK so it's a matter of truth and honesty here.
The paid upgrade model is certainly a potentially contentious practice, but I think you have shown that it is essentially a new product at this point so I'm not particularly against it. Great video
I agree - the difference between V1 (which was more or less the same as the P3D version to my knowledge) and V2 which is now a true MSFS product is quite huge but would hate to see other developers start doing this for less substantial updates.
In Australia I paid $30 for v1 6 months ago. They now want another $20 so for me now to use Dublin that’s $50. Appalling business model and whilst I will have to pay it because I have no choice I will not be buying anything from MK studios again. Many other developers have provided free upgrades.
I appreciate what you're saying but if you don't agree I recommend you speak with your wallet! There's a freeware option that adds the extra runways if you can do without the eye candy. 😊
I agrre with you I am same situation MK studio is greedy company who want us pay again for the airport :-( Here in sweden we call this as old Swedish proverb "horse joker farm catch buy the pig in the sack" long time ago then farmer try sell sick or old animals to people
The difference is so stark because V1 was a crappy P3D port over, and a joke by MSFS standards at that, even so soon after release when it was 'hurried out' in order to cash in on the brand new MSFS euphoria. It was clear to me when I bought it that they had wanted to make a fast buck. Never mind the low res P3D textures in V1, but there wasn't even PBR which was even included in the AOSBO custom airports upon release. So paying again for what was a very poor port and a quick cash grab is a joke even if V2 is now, finally, well done. It should have at the very least been half as well done as V2 to begin with. And if they want to do a paid update, they could offer a better discount and at least have given the new runway for free as well as fixed the CTD that so many users had and which MK studios totally ignored. Overall, it is a matter of principle and shows a general contempt for their customers.
This looks to be MK Studio's best work yet! I'm honestly surprised at the upgrade, and it looks like that this will be my first MK Studios airport. Thanks for the great video!
Keep in mind that MK Studios have sales very often. If you already bought 1.00 wit ha discount, the upgrade to 2.00 is not that a big step. If you are going to buy another MK Studios scenery in the future, wait for a sale, it will make the pill of Dublin easier to swallow.
I have v1 for xbox but I totally love v2 if it is reasonably priced I would buy it u say around 11 pounds I would pay that but no more than that .Great video by the way thanks for making it. Worth a sub.
Thank you for this video. I have been waiting for R28 to be added to EIDW for months. I own V1 and now V2. I actually liked V1 and would as you suggest at the end of the video like to have seen runway 28R added to V1 at no cost and much sooner. V2 is nice, but I find it bit of a mixed bag. You didn't mention the completely empty interiors to the terminal buildings (they are just shells with nothing inside) and also some quite poor night lighting textures on many buildings excluding the excellent new highly detailed gates (Terminal 1 Gates 102-113 and Terminal 2 Gates 407-426). Also, absolutely no internal details for Gates 201-220 or Gates 301-313, again just empty shells. By comparison with some other recent releases from other devs, I feel this falls short of my expectation. Externals as seen in your video do look nice by daytime though, but for me not so much at night with some really poor opaque windows on those empty shell terminal buildings. Also have a look at the fire station at night and the illuminated windows just look non transparent / unicolour for example. Overall I still like V2, but I paid full price for it having bought V1 in the MSFS internal marketplace (silly me) previously (so no discount available).
No problem! I don't think there was any promise for the interiors of the terminals in all fairness? I would have liked to have cover more but there's so much to cover I couldn't do it all in 1 video, admittedly I didn't spend a huge amount of time on the night lighting. Thanks for your comments! Maybe worth popping MK a line and seeing if they're looking to work on any of the areas you aren't a fan of.
I originally bought this on XBox but gave up on that and now run it on a PC., so same issue no discount. I will update it though as it is an excellent destination for short haul flights around Europe.
Certainly seems worth the upgrade price but I wonder if we all just do it would it encourage mk studio and other devs to start going down the same path?! This would be a worrying trend… That said I probably won’t be able to resist buying the upgrade!
I'm not sure - I think in this instance there's clearly a huge amount more work put in, whether people wanted that or not. I suppose people need to talk with their money. Enjoy it if you get it!
I consider airport interiors a pointless addition to flight simulation. Time could be better spent on the exterior and performance would not be impacted. Flight sim is about flying not looking at cardboard cutouts eating burgers.
A lot of people like different things. An interior can really add a lot of depth and life to many airport buildings even when soley viewed from the outside. That being said it's devs that really choose whether they want to spend the time or not. It's their work at the end of the day.
MK studios made a good V2 but I don't like their strategy! Luckily, customers will decide if they think it's worth it or not! Maybe Mk studios will make a profit with this update, but for the future they will lose some customers! Paying money for an update and letting v1 die, some customers won't accept this! Then some people will no longer buy airports of MK Studios in the future!
You are correct, I own 5 of their sceneries and will not purchase from them in the future. If they wanted to charge for v2 fine. What is their explanation for not adding the additional runway in the past year to V1?
After making this video I can see why they ditched v1, it's so dated now. That being said perhaps they shouldn't have released that one at all and put all the focus in to making a better scenery than doing what they have.
I bought it, it's great however don't know about anyone else but when parked near a terminal with an interior modelled, I have a massive fps hit as soon as I move away from it fps comes back. I have other airports that have modelled interiors with not as quite as bad an fps hit as this. Other than that it's a great update.
Nice vid. I bought v2 since it's only £11 but I can understand why ppl are annoyed esp when Devs like inibuilds were giving v2 of EGLL for free (albeit not as much of an overhaul). I'm happy with it with the exception of that flickering glass and the same rubbish frames I get here. I saw you were getting about 54 but I guess that was with everything turned off. EIDW always been on the lower side for me, sometimes even dipping below EBBR's notorious FPS.
Thanks Chris! They already have an update ready to go for the flickering glass and some optimisations, they just posted on their Facebook/Insta. Hopefully this helps you! My aircraft wasn't powered if that's what you mean by everything turned off, I was using my usual gfx settings and live weather though.
@@BobbyFuzzy yeah I guess the only additional stuff I had running over you was the FSLTL (prob the FPS killer here) and the aircraft was powered up. Hopefully the update or future ones might refine the code a little to improve FPS from V1. It's livable tho, it's not like it's giving takeoff/landing issues.
@@chriswhigham86 Likely! AI traffic eats a lot of frames. FPS is always worse in the cockpit too, that being said it's all relative and I was just showing that there's no real difference at least on my system vs V1. They say more optimisations are coming even after the update today so fingers crossed it gets better!
Fantastic scenery, amazing upgrades, definitely reasonable for asking for an upgrade price...worth £11, I don't think so, I think they have priced that a bit too high
What version of dublin v1 is in this video? mine doesn't look like that (there's no construction shown - just the new runway with yellow cross markings)
It was the latest version at time of recording the video. Unfortunately I don't have it installed any more to check what version. I'm not sure what construction you refer to however?
Might be worth contacting either MK Studios or PMDG on this one. I'm not sure how the PMDG works regarding navdata in the Xbox ecosystem. For PC we just update the navdata in the PMDG via Navigraph.
They are indeed, at least for me, I have navigraph Navdata so I don't know if that has an effect. That being said I think the procedures are usually part of the scenery.
After watching comparison videos I still stand by the fact that it is not enough to warrant a fee for V1 owners. I agree it’s a excellent work and a big overhaul but that should be reflected in the price for brand new owners. MK are making out like they’ve created the new top tier scenery on MSFS, they haven’t. It is still quite a way behind Brussels, Berlin V2 and Heathrow (which have all received free updates since launch). Nobody is disputing the quality of V2 in comparison to V1, but all V1 owners now have an uninstalled completely redundant scenery that they paid for. Some people I know only purchased it a few weeks ago. It should be free for V1 owners, simple.
You make a good point, perhaps they should have upped the cost for new owners and not charged for the update. I think Orbx did something like that for Burbank V2.
I bought Dublin V1 early, I assume upgrades fixes are free, there was nothing about upgrades costing anything back then. as far as I'm concerned they are being dishonest with those who have bought the V1. Had I known that updates will cost money in the future, I would never have bought the V1. it's greedy to charge for an update when you all already own the product. this affects my choices in the future who I will buy from in the future, right now I won't buy anything from MK studios because I don't trust them, will they now always charge for upgrades?
Same, it was one of the first sceneries I got. I was a little sceptical at first but after making this video I see exactly why this costs money. This isn't an update as such, it's more or less a new scenery. If it was just a case of adding the new runways, I don't doubt this would be a free update.

ESGG V2 isn't out yet so probably not the fairest comparison! Every airport in the world already exists for the sim for free but people still buy scenery for those 😊It might be the same airport but as you can see from the video, pretty much everything about the scenery specifially is different, pretty much the only thing thats the same it it's name and geographic location.
How is performance (and not just a 10 second clip)? I've always been hesitant about airports with interiors...the interiors are a waste of resources because they an only be ogled at in drone camera...
@@Not_Lewis It's decent. About as good as can be expected for an airport of that size. Interiors don't impact frames as much as you'd think, MSFS engine can handle tonnes of polygons without losing a lot of performance see; Pyreegue Dev Co sceneries.
Given the nature of your profession, I can't think of a better person to carry out a review of this scenery. I must compliment you on an excellent presentation, a well balanced and fair review which highlighted so much I hadn't noticed after buying the upgrade. It's a pity that the developer did not provide such a detailed rendition in the original scenery and subsequently added the new runway and ancillaries in V2. The jury is still out on the matter of value for money overall.
same here i paid $24 when it first came out now i have to pay another $17 for an upgrade totaling $41 ? if i would have known they were gonna do this i would have waited . im turned off to MK studios now , that was a slick money grab
@@BobbyFuzzy I've purchased multiple sceneries from mk and they have been serviceable. It doesn't leave a good taste considering others have released free v2s within the last year
I agree. It’s a ripoff; especially after Aerosoft just gave their Version 2 Brandenburg to their customers for free. I won’t be buying ANY products from this developer in the future.
MK noted they are working on optimisation but yeah in some scenarios the performance isn't the best for an airport of that size. I don't see any obvious flickering since the latest update though?
