i backpacked japan, for over 2 months, i dropped my train pass so many times and someone would give it to me kindly, you see bicycles everywhere with no chains (can't do that in my city they will be stolen & sold at the fleamarket), whenever i was lost and asked (most japanese can understand english or understand when you are lost point at a map say 'doko desu ka')they would walk me all the way to my destination out of kindness instead of pointing or telling me the way made me feel bad....they could be missing work. when it was raining i noticed most 4 way traffic light intersections have random extra umbrellas hanging for people who dont have umbrellas, and whenever i met people they would offer me food, stories, advice, and be so curious about myself. this country is a very loving country. i do not care the stereotype of people saying it's emotionless or depressing because it is not, many people are not, those who are have reasons not everyone is the same. it is quite because they have a very polite, gracious, and thoughtful culture. it is interesting looking into them now and the art of the past, it has always been a thing for them to love imperfections, to be imperfect to them is perfect, very interesting.

@MiguelDLewis

Actually the others were just as eloquent. Of course, I don't blame Europeans and non-African looking people like Summer Oa for making such comments. Victimization is irrelevant. It's simply a reflection of the manner in which the African diaspora has been systematically sabotaged. I think if more people knew about this, they'd make less patronizing comments about "well spoken" or "articulate" Africans.

The first time I went to Japan, I asked my Japanese friend if it's OK to wear just tank tops since I was going in August. She told me in a roundabout way that it would be better if I wear a blouse on top of it to cover my shoulders. And when I got there, I did notice that the Japanese wear loose fitting tops that cover their shoulders/chest area. No deep V neck tops or just tank tops worn especially in the cities. On the other hand, tourists can wear whatever they want. It's up to you how you want to dress, but you will stand out more if your just wear tank tops during the summer in the city.

Yeah, I find the standard of what's too much skin to be very strange. Cleavage is a big no-no, but girls can wear skirts as short as can be. Even girls who are just in high school wear mini skirts. And it's just considered cute, not even that sexy. But as a foreigner, I'm looking at it thinking, "How could a mom let her daughter go out wearing that?"

seriously?!! western girls wear them much shorter. much western girls are going for the sexy look, while Japanese girls just want to look cute. the sexual intentions separate the cute from the slutty.
@TheRealityofFake
@TheRealityofFake 7 лет назад
You can find western girls who wear mini skirts, but in Japan it seems much more common. The intention is definitely different, as Japanese girls just want to look cute, while when western girls wear it to be sexy. But for me, whenever I see super short skirts it comes off as sexy. Which is why I was so shocked to see high school and middle school girls wear mini skirts frequently in Japan. Like if you wear a skirt short enough that it wouldn't be hard to see your underwear, how could that not be considered as being sexy? It's so odd to me.
@aokosakano3037
@aokosakano3037 7 лет назад
if they wanted it to be sexy they would have wore tight skirts that showed their curves. just cuz the skirt is short doesn't mean it seems sexy. school girl skirts are cute, tight skirts that are tight around the butt are "sexy".
@TheRealityofFake
@TheRealityofFake 7 лет назад
to me this is just a difference of culture. in the west, if you wear a short skirt it's considered sexy. for us, by definition, a mini skirt is sexy. that's why it's baffling when I look at a different culture, and they consider mini skirts only as cute. but as far as school girl skirts, I don't think you can say they are only viewed as cute, because there are definitely many guys who think of them as sexy, just look at Japanese porn. In the west, while we don't wear uniforms as much, there definitely is the sexualization of school girl uniforms here as well.

I have never been to Japan, but my impression is that the portrayal in popular media must be sanitized. You never seem to see much abject poverty and starvation or violent crime and corruption, and the overall landscape looks frighteningly antiseptic. It scares me and makes me think that grim reality is being hidden from view. There is also disappointingly little real wilderness and everywhere seems overpopulated and full of advanced technology and infrastructure. Then again, I come from a country known for bucolic westerns and gritty film noir.

Nowadays, they're more focus on K things.. What I remembered from way back when was some J dramas, movies, music and anime.. Nowadays, I see only animes (highkey I still watch Doraemon and Shin Chan every saturday 7-8PM on NTV7 - ya'll be living in Malaysia would know what im talking about LOL) J music is very rare on national channels LOL..So i don't know what is this dude talking about Johnny's and Arashi (unless he meant youtube or fb sharing lol)...Jmusic is basically "almost" NON existence UNLESS you have pay tv like Astro cables and such and its still rarely talk/shown about if its not on animax channels or couple of channels (maybe i missed out) What's popular still here in Malaysia is cosplays...and thats it

Lmao I love how when there are questions about "foreigners " that basically means to them the US, Korea, and Europe, like what happened to the rest of the world?? Also when talking about the US specifically, and its people, they are all thought to be white as if white people are native to America?? And America is so diverse. Idk it just confuses me how "colonised" Japanese people are even though they were never overtaken by Europeans or enslaved they seem to have such great images of the West that I don't really see in Japanese media. Does anyone know why this is? (genuine question)
@kota3214
@kota3214 6 лет назад
Laila Butt I’m not sure if this is why, but after WW2 America basically worked with the Japanese government and built them up again with a democratic governing system compared to the imperial system before. I think this is why japan was able to advance economically and socially extremely fast and I think this reflects positively on their views of the west
@shortazn97

RMPG FAM 😂 first of all calm tf down you’re answering somebody’s question, second of all, out of 7 continents Europe is not one of the biggest continents, I get that but if you have been to Japan, I’ve see a fair amount of Vietnamese, Thai, Singaporean and other Asians some of them coming from Australasia... but thank you for your response I found this helpful

I wore a lot of low cut crop tops when I was in Japan. Oops -.-' I stayed over at my friend's parent's house but they never warned me for that or even treated me differently or looked at me funny or with judgement. But I guess that might just be their politeness then? Oopsie =/

Evan butler 本音(honne) and 建前(tatemae). But I think it is mostly just them accepting the different culture of foreigners. On the other hand I have heard many Japanese aren't confrontational. They may have wanted to say something but didn't.

It's funny how western people respect all cultures but when it comes to Middle East they find us retarded because we have dress code rules, I live in Dubai UAE and we have rules to not wear very short or show too much skin I'm talking here about very very short clothes, it's fine to wear shorts but not very short, but tourist never ever respect this, even though many locals feel offended by this and showing emotions like kissing in lips is not allowed but they keep doing it.

MUHRA Arts I think it’s because generally the media portrays the Middle East as very VERY conservative and culturally we are not like that. Not only that, but religion I believe plays a role in the negative portrayal since the west is more on the Christian view of things. I’m not American, I’m Canadian and I really have no problem with the Middle East since I’m more educated than most people. The people wearing those clothes are most likely American - it’s funny how Americans demand respect and yet they have no respect for other cultures and they don’t really try to learn about other cultures - and this really comes down to their toxic patriotism and lack of sound education.

Maybe, just maybe because the Left is Islamising us, and those clothes are used not only for religious reasons, but also for political ones... :3
