Have you tried using a thin mint cookie as a straw? Take a small bite off the edge, turn it 180 degrees, take a small bite from the other side. Dip one opening in whisky use the cookie like a straw, draw the whisky through the cookie. When you taste whisky you are ready for enjoyment, pop the cookie in your mouth.........Glorious.

there used to be a restaurant in my home town, that had an inhouse maple/whiskey syrup(they would also make a glaze out of it), don't know how they made it, but menu said it was homemade with real local maple syrup, and a rye whiskey (i don't remember which one)...it tasted AMAZING to me, even as a kid. (wish it was still around, they made "everything" from scratch, sauces, breads, soups, meat from local butchers...mmmm)

@@SoulConfession I am OK and alive. Its been a while. Been trying it out, and it is damn good haha. The sushi dude was surprised to see that the yamazaki and the salmon go so good. From what we tried the fishes that are not that flavour intense tend to be good. The others not so much. It was quite fun.

I discovered Japanese Whiskey in about 2005. I was changing planes in Tokyo Narita and picked up a bottle of Nikka 21 for about $60 at random in the duty free. Got home and thought it was amazing. Next time I went to Hong Kong I made sure to change planes again in Tokyo and brought along hard shell luggage and bubble wrap to use to bring them (6 bottles this time) back to the US in my checked baggage. Made sure after that, every time I went to Asia, I always changed outbound planes in Tokyo to buy more in the duty free. Since I was not going to the US, I could buy more bottles. I also tried others like Yochi and Hibiki but I still think that the Nikka 21 is the best whiskey I've ever had. I would also share it with my Irish/Scottish friends that owned bars. They all loved it. When I finally finished the last bottle, I was sad that that was the end of them but happy that I got to experience it.

My first Japanese whisky was 1994... When Suntory hit the Chicago show around 2005 things started to get attention... here we are in 2019 and I have to say there are few values left in Japanese whisky IMHO YMMV. I still drink Yama 12, Hak 12, and Nikka Coffey Malt because they are not too hard to find and not super crazy prices. But Hibiki 17... hmmm.

The Vault Whiskey episodes are recorded in batches. It would be interesting to know how many episodes Rex had recorded when Daniel gave him his master class on Japanese whiskey. So it would be understandable for Rex to make the same interested face because it may be for Rex as if he heard it the first time.

I'm really happy to know that I'll still be able to get my hands on more Japanese whiskey in the distant future. My friend introduced me to it via a Hibiki 21 in Sydney (last bottle) about a month ago and I was blown away by how much I enjoyed it!

Santory's releasing a blend from all major types of whisky in the world this april, called the Ao. It will be a Canadian,American, Japanese,Scotch blend, sounds interesting.

I've got a bottle of Toki - I probably use it most to macerate fruit (no joke - the floral notes of Japanese whiskey works really well), but it's fairly pleasant on its own. (... I'll also have to try it as a dipping sauce :-p)

If it wouldn’t mess it up to much, you could put some in one of your infinity bottles. Might not taste the best, but it will be one of the rarest infinity bottles out there

Yes, it's a short lived problem. Went to the Yamazaki distillery three times over the course of my semester in Japan, and you could see the differences in the production facilities (from January to May). Moreover, yes, it's super hard (if not impossible) to find age statement Nikka bottles or Hibiki/Hakushu/Yamazaki, but in Japan it's super easy to go to a bar and enjoy whatever you want for not many Dollars (Louis XIV bar in Kyoto has everything, standing bar near Dotonbori in Osaka as well).

As a different tribe episode; How to age your own stuff? Like how to treat the barrel etc. In the end Rex can pull out some weird aged stuff that shouldn't even have been in a barrel in the first place.

I like Laphroaig 10 personally, but I prefer Corsair Triple Smoke. It's smokey but very friendly. It was the best glass I've had so far in my whisky journey

I have been living in Japan for 15 years and your predictions don't take 1 think into factor. The Chinese. Yes the west has been having a whisky boom and found Japanese whiskey after lost in translation; however, the recent rise in Chinese's upper middle class as had a MASSIVE impact on Chinese tourism to Japan and large export item for them is Japan branded whisky. I think if they continue to use age statements it will be 15* year whisky, and the small print in kanji will be "some" of the whisky is at least 15 years old.

NAS dissapointments :( Hibiki 12 was amazing and the Harmony and the Master's Select can't hold a candle to it. Same for the Yamazaki and Hakushu 12yo --> Distiller's Select. #rip
