This was the absolute best explanation of “rest” that we are all promised, that I have ever heard! Well done sir! Been a believer for over 30 years and recently discovered what rest really means as it’s spelled out in Hebrews. There’s not much teaching on this subject that’s this in depth. Excellent!

We are saved by grace through faith not by the law, """"BUT"""" there is some things one can do like follow God's commands! Christians miss out on many blessings when they don't do anything! Take the sabbath for instance.... Isaiah 56 tells us about the blessings to those that keep God's sabbath(s)! First you'll be remembered by God! Also you'll have a name better than a son or daughter. He tells the foreigners and eunuchs that even THEY will be blessed for keeping them! Now the sons & daughters are faithful Israel! Yes there is some of Israel who were faithful! The foreigners are the ( Christians) & they will be given a name better than faithful Israel, ""IF"" they take delight in Gods sabbaths (Isaiah 58:13)! The blessings are there for anyone who wishes to follow Gods instructions! Yet we have many who would rather follow mans instructions instead. Here's the thing .... Israel tried it their way many times and they were disciplined by God. Somehow todays Christians think they're going to do the same as Israel but this time with different results! That somehow God will accept disobedience from them because they're """CHRISTIANS"""! A rude awaking is waiting for all that think they can be disobedient to God and that God will grant them salvation, when He wouldn't grant it to the Israelites that were disobedient!

@@qw2ps4 Yes, but under the New Covenant, Christ pours His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. And love fulfills the law. All the law and the prophets hang on two commands, love God and neighbor. We love God by loving our neighbor. Jesus said that whatever you do (or don't do) to the least you do (or don't do) to Him. How do we love? By resting in Christ's love. He is our rest in that it is no longer we who do the works, but Christ who works through us. Love is a FRUIT, not a work. He works in us and we rest in him. So no one is being disobedient by not following Moses. We fulfill the law through faith expressing itself in love. Jesus didn't just obey the law, He fulfilled it, by His sacrificial love show to others to the point of death. It's easy to obey the law of Moses. It's impossible to fulfill it. Only Christ can fulfill it in us, and that is by faith. I do delight in the Sabbath, in the rest that I have in Christ. I delight in the fact that I don't have to work to please Him, that it is my faith and trust in Him that pleases Him.

@@qw2ps4: *Amen! Well articulated.* One so often hear the argument that we are not under law but under grace *but what does it mean to be under grace?* First let's define what sin is according to the Bible. 1 John 3:4 *‘Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.’* Therefore, *if there is no Law then there can be no sin,* and for even further clarity Romans 4:15 says, *‘Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.’* *And what about God's grace?* - *What is this exactly?* - *Put simply,* - *it is His unmerited and undeserved favour that we receive as the result of our Saviour's redeeming sacrifice.* - *Please allow me to elaborate more fully.* *This is where faith comes in.* - *We believe by faith that the sacrifice of Christ cleanses us from all sin.* - *Then comes the free gift from God.* Ephesians 2:8-9 *‘For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.’* *As a result of our repentance and faith, we receive God's Grace which is His unmerited and undeserved favour that we receive due to Christ interceding on our behalf as a result of His sacrifice*. [1 Timothy 2:5]. *THIS ALSO SHOWS THAT IF THERE WAS NO LAW, THERE WOULD BE NO NEED FOR GOD'S GRACE.* *IF THERE IS GRACE THEN THERE IS HIS LAW TO BE OBEYED.* - *THERE IS HOWEVER NO SACRIFICE THAT WILL COVER WILFUL AND UN-REPENTED SIN.* [Hebrews 10:26-29]. This is not to say that if one comes to genuine repentance later in time that he will not be forgiven as this is not so. Christ will always forgive those who come to true repentance.* *Consider the following.* Can a murderer who was sentenced to death work for his freedom? *No*. - *Why not?* - *Because he is under the law and the law demands death.* - *The only way he can be set free is if the Governor gives him a pardon.* - *Now, waiting for the execution this man would truly be under the law in every sense of the word; under the guilt, under the condemnation and under the sentence of death.* - *Just before the execution date the governor reviews the condemned man's case and decides to pardon him. In the light of extenuating circumstances, the governor exercises his prerogative and sends a full pardon to the prisoner. Now the prisoner is no longer under the law but under grace.* - *That is, the law no longer condemns him. He is considered totally justified as far as the charges of the law are concerned and he is free to walk out of the prison and no policeman can stop him.* - *BUT NOW THAT HE IS UNDER GRACE AND NOT LAW, CAN WE SAY THAT HE IS FREE TO BREAK THE LAW? Certainly NOT.* In fact, now he would be much more obligated to obey the law *BECAUSE HE HAS FOUND GRACE FROM THE GOVERNOR. IN GRATITUDE AND LOVE HE WILL BE VERY CAREFUL TO HONOUR AND OBEY THE LAW OF THAT STATE WHICH GRANTED HIM GRACE.* *Now what did Paul say about sin and grace?* - Romans 6:1-2 *‘What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 GOD FORBID. HOW SHALL WE, THAT ARE DEAD TO SIN, LIVE ANY LONGER THEREIN?’* And for further clarity using the main passage to avoid loving obedience to God. Romans 6:14-15 *‘For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? GOD FORBID.’* The Bible does say that we are not under the law, *BUT DOES THAT IMPLY THAT WE ARE FREE FROM THE OBLIGATION TO OBEY IT?* - *HOW EASILY WE COULD PREVENT CONFUSION IF WE JUST ACCEPTED EXACTLY WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS.* - *After stating that we are not under the law but under grace,* - *Paul gives his own explanation in verse 15.* He says, *“What then?” This simply means, “How are we to understand this?”* - *Then notice his answer. In anticipation that some would misconstrue his words to mean that you can break the law because you are under grace, he says,* - *“Shall we sin [break the Ten Commandments law] *because we are not under the law but under grace? God forbid.”* *In the strongest possible language, Paul states that being under grace does not give a license to break the Ten Commandments.* - *Sadly, this is exactly what so many good Christians believe today despite Paul's specific warning.*

I've also learnt that the book of Hebrews demonstrates the superiority of the new covenant over the old one. Jesus is the second Adam and the new Moses, he is leading us in a new exodus, we are going out (of bondage to the law of sin and death) to the new promised land - the New Jerusalem in heaven, we also have a new rest day, Sunday as a memorial of Christ's resurrection, of his finished work of redemption and in honor of a new beginning/a new creation/a new order in contrast to the old creation and finally Jesus gives us the new manna i.e his own spiritual body and blood to feed on. We have such a high priest who has gone into the heavens on our behalf and is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven.

@@qw2ps4 Gentiles were never subject to the Mosiac covenant, BUT under Jesus' new covenant Gentiles can enter into God's Sabbath rest any day of the week (Hebrews 4). Further, Jesus' new covenant has better promises than the old, so they miss out on nothing by so doing: "But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises." ~ Hebrews 8 : 6

@@qw2ps4 Where Paul is saying ''We are saved by grace through faith'' there is no BUT, just a period. That's it, nothing more is required or asked for from us except the faith part. We must believe it or this reality will not BE true for us. We can only experience salvation if we believe it and believe Jesus for it. Jesus said that those who do not believe are condemned already. The danger that is in the teaching that there is something more we can or must do is that it limits our belief to a Jesus+something else instead of Jesus only. For me this is not being able to believe fully and my question to this is: Do I really believe? I would conclude that belief in a Jesus+something is not a belief in Jesus at all. It is a false belief. There are very important reasons why a belief in Jesus only is the only way. The most important reason is that we cannot ever claim that we had anything to do with our salvation, that we some how were better people because of something we did. Salvation is only a gift, only form God. The only part we have in the equation is that we must believe it is true.

The law is speaking is about a righteous walk through obedience that leads to Yeshua who is the end of the law for righteousness, another way of putting it, the law allows one to walk a righteous walk, but one is made God's righteousness in Christ on the cross.

Yes we are all spiritually resting in Christ but I don't see why we must spit on His physical Sabbath in order to do that? God gifted us the Sabbath so that we can rest. You can tell yourself that you are "in Christ's rest" all you want but if you don't get tired and need a day of rest you are lying or not human. The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. God set it apart and made it Holy and it has been a covenant between God and His people since Eden... I don't see a way around this. It just sounds like rebellion to me. And I am guilty of not always honoring it how I should!! I am trying to walk out my own faith with fear and trembling and just rely on God's grace and mercy for where I fall short, without using his grace and an excuse to just live however I want.

People have complicated Christianity. This is the Gospel Message: Jesus Christ conquered sin and death and then He sent the Holy Spirit on Day 50, Pentecost. The Ten Commandments were also given on Pentecost. They simply mean Love. Love God and love your neighbor. With the Holy Spirit in us we can keep the Ten Commandments, which again are summed as love, as Jesus told us in Matthew 22:37-40. He was quoting Deuteronomy 6. What precedes Deuteronomy 6? Deuteronomy 5, which is the Ten Commandments. Every human created has the Ten within them by Design. The Ten were written on Stone, beautiful Sapphire Stone, by the Finger of God Himself. The 600 were written on paper by Moses via God. The Ten Commandments are in the Ark of the Covenant right now in Heaven per Revelation 11:19.

I would say please read James 2: 18-26 in regards to faith only or is it faith and works. I think when you read these verses, you have a great balance. Also, if you read Jesus parable of talents in the Gospel. Also, Revelation 20:12. Ultimately, if you love Christ and you are filled with the Holy Spirit, it is not works, but a labor of love.

I agree, Eric. Those aren't "works" that earn us salvation, but rather outward expressions that come _after_ we are saved. They reveal our love for the Lord and our believing loyalty to Him. So, as James said, if we claim to have faith but our lives show no evidence of it, our faith is dead.

For if Yehoshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. So there remains a Sabbath-keeping for the people of Elohim. For the one, having entered into His rest, has himself also rested from his works, as Elohim rested from His own. Let us therefore do our utmost to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience. For the Word of Elohim is living, and working, and sharper than any two-edged sword, cutting through even to the dividing of being and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all are naked and laid bare before the eyes of Him with whom is our account. Therefore, since we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, יהושע the Son of Elohim, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was tried in all respects as we are, apart from sin. Therefore, let us come boldly to the throne of favour, in order to receive compassion, and find favour for timely help.” ‭‭Hebrews 4:6, 8-16‬ ‭ This Rest that “remains” we have not received it! We only receive it when we enter the land with our King and he takes away pain and wipes every tear away and we have ceased from working the daily grind to provide for our families cause he’s now our provider. To enter that rest it says we cannot be disobedient to Gods commandments like in this case Sabbath-keeping. Because the word which tells us to keep the 7th day Sabbath...which word did they have at the time this is written? The TaNaK! There’s no wiggling out of that one no matter what Guthrie says.

It could mean that the "rest" Jesus talks about is salvation, or heaven, and not sabbath Edit: I finished it. So the promised land is linked to God's rest on the seventh day, which is the sabbath. And the generation of Israelites did not enter the promised land is because they did not believe. So in order to enter the rest or sabbath(tell me if I'm wrong), we have to believe. But if the rest was not inactivity but completion, why did the Jews do the weekly Sabbath Edit 2: Maybe if there are two meanings regarding rest. It could both mean salvation and sabbath. The reason they didn’t make it to the promised land was because they failed to act when God told them to act not because they failed to “believe “ or had a lack of faith. The Law from God never commanded faith or belief. You could fairly infer a lack of faith and or belief but IF that was the sole reason God wouldn’t have waited until they failed to act to judge them.

Faith CAN be intertwined with an act of obedience. This I agree with. However, obedience without faith is still obedience. Paul doesn’t speak for God but instead he speaks as a believer in God. Paul’s opinion that any act of obedience performed without “faith” lacks critical thinking skills. The most glaring omission is his definition of faith in this immediate context. Is faith something that can be measured? Is a little faith the equivalent of a lot of faith? Is it faith in Jesus alone? His death? His resurrection? His kingship? His triune relationship? If one or some of these things are not believed than is their faith even faith at all? For example, What if one person obeys the Law of God because he has faith that God will punish him if he doesn’t? Is that good enough? What if person at my Sinai obeyed because he had faith in his leader Moses? Still yet another person may obey motivated by his denominational faith in Jesus? Yet another may choose to obey the Law because he has faith in the Law itself, regardless of the author. In other words he believes that the alternative legal systems in the world are inferior and lack sustainability for future generations. There is an endless stream of reasons a person may have “faith”. None of them can be measured or judged to be greater than the other because all are true and all are relevant. What matters is that they all ultimately obey the same law regardless of their faithful motivations. Finally I must reiterate that the Torah given by God does not command faith from those who adhere to it’s instructions. It only commands obedience to one set of people. That group of people, regardless of their faith, believed in God and followed Him into the desert. they were given a legal system to adhere to. Therefore a just God will not Judge for the lack of faith regardless of its potential benefits, because he never commanded it.

@@tactup23 Hebrews 11:1 and 11:3 Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. By Faith we understand that the world's were prepared by the Word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible. I think it's belief and Faith which are intertwined. Obedience is just a natural occurrence, or a by-product of believing and having Fairh. Blessed are they who believe, though they have not yet seen.

@@gaylechristensen6285 The point isn’t what does Paul think but instead what did God say. God never command faith or belief from anyone. He did clearly command obedience from everyone. There is no punishment for failure to believe or lack of faith. There is however, clearly defined punishments for disobedience. Therefore it seems that the act of obedience is not conditional upon why you obey according to God. I’m not arguing whether or not faith is important for our growth and understanding as humans. Only that it wasn’t required by God for life and death.

I'd advice watching Jim Staley's Sabbath sermon. It's roughly 90 minutes and might be split into 3 parts. We are to walk like Christ. Be like him more and more every day. He kept sabbath. The 7th day is set apart (holy) and hallowed. If you're interpretation of Jesus's words are correct, his disciples should have immediately ignored the sabbath from that moment and declared jesus as the holy rest. But that's not what happened. Jesus would have rebuked them or they all would have been prosecuted. Jesus's doctrine wasn't his own but his father's. The law won't change until heaven and earth pass away. Jesus said to listen to and obey the pharisees when they speak on the seat of moses (reading scripture/torah) and not do as they do. The weekly sabbath was kept by Moses, the prophets, Jesus, Paul, the disciples, so I think we should too. Especially if it's In the 10 commandment. Using theological gymnastics like this with sabbath and food laws will never appeal to an honest atheist because the theology isn't consistent. You can't tell a gay person that his sin is a problem because of the bible and then contradict the bible yourself. They laugh at Christians who do this. . I don't blame them.

And BTW Gentiles, who have never been under the Sinai covenant, were never expected to keep Shabbat, eat kosher, be circumcised, etc. because the Law of Moses was only given to Israel (Ex 19:1-6). kicking against the goads... won't comment further on your videos, Brother, but you seem to misunderstand "belief" and "faith" as somehow separate from behavior/faithfulness (which is a very Western concept and not the Biblical view--which James addressed very pointedly). You also are still ignoring the fact that Jesus spent MORE time addressing a correct view of the Sabbath than He did any of the other nine commandments (which are more self-evident), all of which art still part of our covenant faithfulness to Him ("If you love Me, you will keep My commandments). This is not to say that in Christ we are bound to ANY of the rabbinical restrictions which were ADDED to God's instruction to guard the Sabbath, but we are very much commanded to "keep" it until it is fulfilled in the Millennium (mostly), in the Land under Christ's rule, then for Eternity--our final rest. "Not one stroke of the Law shall be removed until ALL is fulfilled." (what HAS been fulfilled is no longer required--like the sacrificial system and eating "kosher," etc.) I have tried to reason with you from the Scriptures, and have gently warned that you are fighting against what the Spirit is doing in this Hour. Thank you, Suzan. I very much respect your thoughtful responses and corrections. I am compelled to go where Scripture leads me, and so far it has not led to agreement with you on the topic of Shabbat. Jesus indeed spoke out against the man-made corruptions to the Shabbat as God gave it in the Torah. But neither He nor any other NT author ever teaches, repeats, or even hints at the Mosaic regulations. In the NT we are not reminded or taught to remember the Sabbath, keep it holy, do no work, carry no load, etc. Yet we _are_ taught that we shall not murder, shall not commit adultery, shall not steal, honor your mother and your father, and so on. In other words, the commandments Jesus told us to keep if we love Him (John 14:15) did not include Shabbat. In addition, we are told not to let anyone judge us based on whether we keep the Sabbath (Col 2:16-17). And more generally that "One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind" (Rom 14:5). Paul is teaching that among those spiritual behaviors that we do for the Lord, all are acceptable to God and therefore should be acceptable to each other. There is freedom in Christ in how we express our faith and our love for God. Any Christ-follower is free to keep Shabbat, but none are _required_ to do so. That said, I believe every Christ-follower would be wise to set aside a day each week to rest in the Lord. It is a gift from God that reminds us that we can trust Him for provision and that our true rest is in Jesus. Shalom, Rob

Although I very much appreciate you trying to keep many from going down the "torah-observant path" which has hijacked a significant sector of the "church" today, you are throwing the proverbial baby out with the bathwater, and leading people away from the commandments of God that are still foundational for Covenant today. Suzan, 2 Corinthians 3 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you? 2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: 3 forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: 5 not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 6 who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. 7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: 8 how shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? 9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. 11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. 12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: 13 and not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: 14 but their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. 15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. 16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord." (Rom. 14:5-6, see also Col. 2:16-17). Good morning Mr. Solberg. I have a question maybe you can answer this one for me because I need help. I'm not skilled neither in Greek or Hebrew at all but I noticed that in John 15 Jesus commands us to abide in Him. I say this because I'm wondering, if that word were to be translated into Hebrew would it also mean "Nuahk" which means to dwell or to settle but also means to rest. And we can see that word used several times in the OT. Is that the word Jesus was using in John 15. I looked at the Greek which also means to dwell, remain... What do you think about that. This be a solid word as pointing Jesus being our Sabbath... I know that word there is in Greek. Just wondering if this was the proper meaning if we were to translate it from greek to Hebrew. Merry Christmas brother👍

@TheBiblicalRoots Год назад
Hi Dan. Translating the Greek word μένω (menō) into Hebrew would be interesting, but it wouldn't necessarily capture the intention of the biblical author in that passage. That said, the idea of abide (stay, dwell, remain) seems congruous with the idea of rest. And, in fact, the word μένω is translated "rest" in John 1: "And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he rested (menō) on him. 33 I didn’t know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The one you see the Spirit descending and resting (menō) on-he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’" John 1:32-33 (CSB) Some translations use the word "remain" or "stay" in this passage. I don't know if this is enough of a connection to build a case for Jesus as the Sabbath. Maybe there's something there, it is an interesting observation. You might consult Hebrew translations of the New Testament to see which Hebrew word those translators choose. And/or you could try a search of the Septuagint and see how it uses the word μένω. Shalom, Rob

Hey brother, I am not a Torah keeper or into Hebrew Roots, but as far as not being saved by works, what do you do about Galatians 6 where it says we reap eternal life if we keep on doing good and keep sowing to the Spirit?

@TheBiblicalRoots 9 месяцев назад
Hello AITW! That passage in Galatians 6 says, "Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life." (Gal. 6:7-8). I don't read that as saying the way to achieve eternal life is by doing good. Rather, when read in the context of the larger idea that Paul began back in chapter 5, I see it as an agricultural metaphor encouraging the Galatians to live by the Spirit. Paul says we can't engage in works of the flesh (5:19) and expect to experience God’s life. And this isn't limited to life after death but begins in the present, as we are transformed by God’s Spirit (5:22-23). At least that's my 2 cents! Blessings, Rob

@@TheBiblicalRoots thanks for the reply. Now, what happens if a Christian with the Spirit gives up sowing to the Spirit? Will that person still have eternal life according to that passage you quoted? The Bible talks about salvation in 3 different tenses - past (we WERE saved), present (BEING saved), and future tense (we WILL BE saved). Paul says the condition for reaping eternal life is that we KEEP ON doing good (aka sowing to the Spirit), and in this way we will (future tense) reap eternal life. We have eternal life now and everyone agrees with that. But according to that passage what happens if we give up doing good (sowing to the Spirit)?

I'm surprised that Solberg left out such critical details that paint a very different picture from what the Bible fully teaches. I hope that anyone who watches this video in the future takes the time to read what I wrote here. Solberg left out SO MANY important details that must be considered by the honest follower of Christ. 1. First of all, Solberg says that Israelites were barred from the promised land solely because of their lack of faith, but what about Numbers 14:22? It clearly says that the people tested God these 10 times, so we know that it was 10 specific instances that made God so angry he wanted that generation to die in the wilderness (TEN... like the exact same number as the ten commandments). If you go back and research what actually happened 10 times to make God so angry, you'll discover that one of them, for example, was worshiping the Golden Calf. This breaks commandments 1 & 2. Another disobedient act is painfully obvious: disobeying the sabbath (Exodus 16:22-30)! How did you miss this fact Dr. Solberg?? Or did you leave this out of this teaching on purpose? 2. Second, yes there is a theme of future rest, but there is also a definitive, and deliberate, tie to the literal sabbath as well. Consider the message in Hebrews, "TODAY, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in rebellion." Let's consider who the Hebrews is writing this message to. He is clearly writing to the New Covenant Church (see Hebrews 3:1). The message is that the Church (i.e. the BELIEVERS in Jesus Christ) need to be careful not to harden their hearts as in rebellion! The fact that the author of Hebrews is warning BELIEVERS negates the possibility that Hebrews 3&4 are simply about faith/belief. There simply must be more to the message because the readers are already expected to be believers. What is the additional message? That BELIEVERS need to be careful about being DISOBEDIENT REBELS against God! Believers are rightfully expected to follow God's commands, and of course this includes the sabbath. 3. Third, Hebrews 3:18-19 specifically links unbelief (lack of faith) with DISOBEDIENCE. Why wasn't this mentioned in your teaching Solberg? 4. Fourth, the author of Hebrews defined the sabbath as the literal seventh day sabbath in Hebrews 4:4. Your navigation around the literal connection to the 7th day sabbath in Hebrews is a form of interpretive gymnastics of God's word. 5. The author of Hebrews clearly states that Jesus IS NOT our sabbath rest in Hebrews 4:8. Some translations say Joshua, others say Jesus, because it is the same name. Neither Joshua NOR JESUS has completely fulfilled our sabbath rest yet, because the future fulfillment of the millennial sabbath rest comes at a future day. To say that Jesus is our sabbath rest is a plain violation of Hebrews 4:8 as well as the entire future rest theme in this passage. 6. Trying to roll over Hebrews 4:9 "There remains therefore a rest (greek word: Sabbatismo) for the people of God" by using your unbiblically supported interpretation of the entire section is just bad exegesis. Just look at the following verse! Hebrews 4:10 "For he who has entered His rest has himself also CEASED FROM HIS WORKS as God did from His." This is a clear reference to Hebrews 4:4, which, again, identifies ceasing from works as resting on the literal, seventh day sabbath. To anyone who takes the time to read this: ****THE SABBATH ABSOLUTELY IS REQUIRED FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD!**** Don't be deceived by this false teacher! Solberg, after listening to your teaching I feel compelled to give you a warning. James 3:1 tells us to be careful not to become teachers, because teachers will receive a stricter judgment. You are at risk of judgment with this teaching and teachings similar to this sir. Please reconsider your misunderstanding of scripture and please repent of the fact you are pushing your views by deliberately omitting critical scriptural evidence. You will receive a stricter judgment for teachings like these.

Rob, even though I cannot recall if I heard the above video, I did see yesterday's entire debate between you and David WIlbur. As I stated, God was clear when he first spoke and David Wilbur made that clear. What was important to me was not only that David was clear about what God made clear when he first spoke, but that a Gentile believer and a Messianic believer demonstrated that both being grafted in Yeshua are made one, and that the Gentile being grafted they become part of the commonwealth of Israel, as one born in the land Though I am not affiliate with the Messianic Jews, you can see that Messianic believers are not affiliated with the hebrew root movement. As I previously stated, the hebrew root movement appears to be like the pharisees of the old. Messianic Jews are believers! I noticed that in some of your responses you agreed with David Wilbur and hope that God allowed you to see what he (God) made clear when he first spoke. I previously stated that your video's show that you are articulate in the way you present an arguments even if one disagrees, but I hope that in yesterday's debate God opened your eyes, enlightening your mind with the understanding what he made clear when he first spoke, allowing you to teach Gentile believers the truth of God's word when it comes to the law/commandments of God, including the Sabbath. The Apostle Paul did not let his Scriptural education and view get in his way, when his eyes were open he spoke what God made clear when he first spoke. God bless you! Hi, Sam. Thanks for watching the debate! What do you mean when you say, "what God made clear when he first spoke"? ~Rob
@sundownsam3369
@sundownsam3369 2 года назад
What I am stating is that when God first spoke he was clear. Problem with many Gentile believers, even believers in general, they tend to either interpret a verse to fit their own views by pulling the verse out of context or because they do not truly understand the verse within the context, which causes them to give more of an opinion on what they think it means, but that opinion they make it appear as evidence. Not to mention, Rome wanted nothing to do with the Jews, they knew by removing the Sabbath they would separate the Gentiles for the Jews, not to mention that they then engraved a lie in the Gentile believers mind that the law of God is done away with. My brother brought the following to my attention... when David said to God open my ears, the Hebrew language gives the impression as if he was saying to create another hole in his ears, which makes a lot of sense because the natural ears cannot be attentive to God's word. Today he made this statement which makes a lot of sense... the deception of satan is so dark that the natural eyes is unable to allow the truth of God's word to penetrate the window of one's soul. With this being said, this is why believers should pray that the Spirit of God enlightens their mind with an understanding of what God made clear when he first spoke. Many study scriptures, but do not pray for God to open their ears and eyes. With all sincerity, I believe God is dealing directly with you, you have the education, you are articulate in your presentation, and I believe God can use you for the Gentiles to understand that his laws are not a burden, putting the law in it's right perspective. By the way, my job is not to convince you or anyone, God made it clear to me to just put it on the table, the Spirit of God will do the convincing and the conviction. By the way, I do have you in prayer.

W accept Christ through faith and nothing we do can earn us Salvation. We need God because we are sinful and need someone to be our substitute before God. That's why Christ came. The bible calls us to repent and to confess our sins in order to start and continue our walk with Christ. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. We no longer have to offer rams and bulls because Jesus came once and for all. However, how do we know we have sinned? The law (God's moral law) points out our sins - Idolatry, hypocrisy(taking the Lord's name in vain), murder (physically and mentally), envy, jealousy etc. Given that these are part of the decalogue, why can't we see that violating the Sabbath is part of that too? I appreciate how you tied the Word together and beautifully showed how Christ is our Sabbath but there's no choice in the matter about the physical Sabbath. God was exact with the children of Israel and is exact with Christians because we are under grace. Grace does not cancel the moral law. God is the same yesterday and forever.
@TheBiblicalRoots
@TheBiblicalRoots 2 года назад
Well said, Milagro. We just need to remember that not everything God gave Israel under Moses is required of Christians today under Jesus. For example, as you pointed out, we no longer have to offer rams and bulls. And we no longer need a Levitical priesthood or a temple. These things were required of Israel under Moses but are not required of Christians under Jesus. "Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ." (Col 2:16-17) So food, drink, festivals, new Moons, and Sabbaths were shadows of things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. Moral laws apply to all people at all times. The weekly Shabbat does not. For example, Gentiles have never been expected to keep a weekly Shabbat. But they have always been expected not to murder, commit adultery, steal, and so on. Shalom, Rob

Hi there, I was following your argument for a while, and I think you’ve conceptualized the issue relatively well, but I find that the conclusion you come to is false. I’ve studied the sabbath for years now and continue to come to the same conclusion: that the Sabbath commandment is still a requirement for Christians today. But I am always open to learning more, and if I’m wrong, I’d like someone to clearly show me how. I don’t know if you’ll see or respond to this, but if you do, I’d like to make the following points and hear how you would counter them: (1) If the Promised Land (a physical place) was equated with God’s Sabbath rest (and I agree that it is), then why do you describe the New Covenant Sabbath rest as a spiritual rather than physical rest? In other words, the rest we are to enter into as explained in Hebrews 4 cannot be a spiritual rest but a physical rest, as demonstrated by the use of the Greek words sabbatismos and katapausis, both of which, in this context, refer to a physical resting place, i.e. the heavenly rest all believers will attain when Christ comes again. I don’t know of any scripture that describes the Sabbath rest as a spiritual, peace-like rest. (2) Matthew 11:28-29 doesn’t say Jesus IS our Sabbath rest (it doesn’t mention the Sabbath at all, in fact), it says Jesus will GIVE us rest (from the Greek anapausis, which means a cessation of labor or recreational rest), nor do any scriptures say that Jesus is our Promised Land. Instead, Hebrews 4 uses the words katapausis and sabbatismos to demonstrate that the rest believers will enter into (through believing in Jesus) is the rest to come in the New Heaven and New Earth. How could this rest be fully achieved, and how could we rest from our works as God did from his, if this rest is not a physical place as Eden was, as Canaan was, and as the New Heaven and Earth will be? Would not a more consistent argument be that the Sabbath Rest in Eden compared to the Sabbath Rest in Canaan would be compared not to a spiritual rest on earth but to the physical rest of the New Heaven and the New Earth? (3) Where does the assumption that every law must be repeated in the New Testament in order to be valid originate from? The New Covenant is about a better promise, in which God did not create a new law but put His law in our minds and wrote them on our hearts (Hebrews 8:6-10). Even so, Jesus validates the Sabbath in Matthew 12:1-13 and Mark 2:23-28 (and notice how in neither of these passages does he refer to himself as the Sabbath but instead says he is Lord OF the Sabbath), the Sabbath was penned into the book of Acts (I don't quite understand why, if the Sabbath day is done away with and the apostles knew this, the author of Acts didn't write "seventh day" instead of "the Sabbath" when referring to the seventh day of the week, as in Acts 13:44, for instance.), the apostles met with Gentiles on the Sabbath, and Hebrews 4 demonstrates that the seventh day Sabbath represents the heavenly reward for all those who believe. So even if the assumption was true, that every law has to be repeated verbatim in the New Testament in order to be valid, the Sabbath commandment would be valid given the New Testament scriptures that support it. (4) No observance of the law grants us access to God’s heavenly rest, including the Sabbath commandment, because we are, as you explained, saved by faith. However, our faith must be demonstrated through our works (i.e. through our law-keeping), because “faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone” (James 2:17; also see Romans 6:1-2, which explains that being under grace does not permit sin, i.e. law-breaking). So of course keeping the seventh day Sabbath as the law commands will not save us, but doing so does demonstrate our faith, which will save us by God’s grace. (5) So the question is not “Are we saved by keeping the Sabbath?,” because the answer to that is a resounding “No!” The real question is, “Does the New Testament do away with seventh-day Sabbath-keeping?,” and the more I study this topic, the more I find that it does not: The Sabbath commandment still stands, not because it will save us, but because it demonstrates our faith and commitment to God and His righteous standard in the same way that the other laws that we likely agree on (e.g. not stealing, not committing adultery, honoring parents, etc.) do. Hopefully that all made sense. I’d appreciate any comments on this. God bless you!

This video is wonderful Rob, Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I feel that it leads perfectly in to this verse. Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Jesus Christ is indeed our rest...our Sabbath. ❤️ Can I also make a point regarding something I feel that you've said quite often in your videos. You will often say, unless I'm mistaken, that you think it's permitted to keep Shabbat (or other Mosaic Laws.) While this is true is it not also true that if a person keeps even one Mosaic Law them they are beholden to keep ALL of them? And if they cannot do this then are they not then guilty of breaking ALL of them? I only ask because then by saying to someone that even though it's not required but it's ok to do so are we then not potentially condemning a person who tries then to be dead in the Mosaic Laws that they may not be able to uphold all of? And making Christ's sacrifice of null effect? Forgive me if I'm not explaining myself properly. 😊

Thanks, Alex! I understand what you're saying, and it's a very interesting point. You asked, "is it not also true that if a person keeps even one Mosaic Law then they are beholden to keep ALL of them?" I see a significant distinction between keeping them as an optional cultural tradition under Christ and keeping them as a requirement of the Law of Moses. In other words, are we eating kosher, being circumcised, keeping the feasts and the Mosaic Shabbat, etc. as a law we believe is required of us? Or as a cultural tradition? It comes down to our motivation. In Galatians, Paul says, "I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law" (Gal 5:3). In this passages (Gal 5:1-15) Paul is teaching that Christ has set us free. And if we choose to place ourselves under the Law of Moses, "You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace" (Gal 5:4). In other words, when we try to become righteous by keeping the Law of Moses, we are nullifying everything Christ has done for us. "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love" (Gal 5:6). So, in my opinion, if someone chooses to (for example) eat kosher as a personal expression of their faith in Christ-especially if they are Jewish and a kosher diet is part of their cultural DNA-they are free in Christ to do so. And it does not then obligate them to keep all the Mosaic commandments, because they are not keeping it as a commandment, but as a tradition. Shalom, Rob

Yes, the Sabbath was made for man and God made it for man. Not to mention, Yeshua understood that the Sabbath is of the LORD which is probably why he said "I am the Lord of the Sabbath", and it was on the Sabbath that he demonstrated he was the Lord of the Sabbath, most of God's wondrous work was done on the Sabbath. Tell me, did Yeshua keep the Sabbath? Did he perform most of his work on the Sabbath, and he also perform on other days because he is Lord of all. Many lean on one verse to try to substantiate their views. Just show me were in the Scriptures does it say that Yeshua removed the law? Have you ever read Revelation 14:12 where it says, here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commamdments of God, and the faith of Yeshua? I like to know how RL Solberg will respond to this verse.

I apologize for the length, but this topic is a topic that causes one to write, not to impress. The law of God needs to be put in its right perspective and it has nothing to do with making one God's righteousness. The word of God is clear that we are made God righteousness in Yeshua through his atonement on the cross apart from the law, but that is only if we accept the atonement. In addition, it is his righteousness that allows one to enter the kingdom of God. Yeshua said, if our righteousness does not exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees we cannot enter the kingdom of God, which is why he became a sin sacrifice, so that we may be made God's righteousness in him. Does the above mean that the law of God is done away with, I am talking about the Decalogue? The law of God was not made for the righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, but who are the lawless and disobedient? The Epistle of Paul to Timothy gives us a description of the lawless and disobedient, and it is clear from the Epistles to the Galatians and Romans that the law of God leads to Christ who is the end of the law for righteousness, not to mention that Christ came to redeem those under the law. Those under the law at one time were lawless and disobedient, which shows the important of the laws in one's life. A teacher of the law asked Yeshua, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Yeshua asked him two question, what is written in the law" How readest thou? The teacher of the law understood the importance of the law and read them with two commandments. Yeshua responded, do this and thou shall live. Obedience to the law of God giveth life on earth, example, honor thy mother and father and though shall live. The argument was not about the Decalogue, it was about circumcision and corrupted views. They sought the law, but not by faith, which shows how important is God's law, they are holy, good and perfect. Jeremiah was clear about the law of God, and if you construe the chapter carefully you will understand what made the law of God new; God made the covenant with two houses, not like the one he made with their fathers (not houses) which were on tablets of stones. What made it new was that he stored and written them within and made that covenant with two hourses, and it is clear from the Epistles to the Romans, if we walk after the Spirit, the Spirit of God will fulfill the righteousness of the law, including the Sabbath. Your statement appears that you believe the Sabbath is done away with, but one day it will be restored and if that is what you are saying, you are distorting God's word through your interpretation. God was cleared when he first spoke. Yeshua understood the Sabbath which is why he said he is the Lord of the Sabbath, because Exodus tells us that the Sabbath is of the LORD and we can see it through Yeshua that the Sabbath is of the law, it was on the Sabbath that God through Yeshua was performing his wondrous work. Back to the entire Decalogue, if you believe they are done away with then you are leaning to your own understanding. Christ came to fulfill all that was spoken of him, to remove the law and I am referring to the Decalogue. True, it did not say we who kept the commandments, but it is clear from verse 4 that he was talking about the seventh day, not the commandments, in other words, you are distorted the true teaching of this passage. Continue reading, if they shall enter into my rest, what rest? The Sabbath rest, the seventh day, the sabbath was made for man, for what? For man to rest. Let me make this clear, the Decalogue hast nothing to do with salvation, but when one is obedient to God's commandment one is walking a righteous work before God and one can safely state that is a proof that one is made God's righteousness in Yeshua apart from the law.

Thank you, Sam! That's a good word. I see a distinction between the unchanging, eternal Law of God which has existed since the beginning and the Law of Moses which was given at Mount Sinai around 1,500 BCE. The Law of Moses was one expression of the eternal principles found in the Law of God. It was "holy and righteous and good" (Rom 7:12). But it was not the first state of things, and it was never intended to be the final state of things. For example, the specific regulations required under the Law of Moses regarding atonement for sin have changed. God's people have gone from repeated animal sacrifices at the temple under the Mosaic Covenant, to Christ's sacrifice "once for all" (Heb 10:10) under the New Covenant. Blood still atones for sin; that is an unchanging, eternal principle in the Law of God. However, the way that principle is expressed has changed. Under the New Covenant, we still have a sacrifice, but it is expressed through the blood of Christ's eternal sacrifice. In the same way, I believe the universal principle behind Shabbat has not changed. But it seems to me the specific Shabbat regulations required under the Law of Moses have. In other words, we still _Sabbath_ today, but we do it differently under the New Covenant. Shalom, Rob
@sundownsam3369
@sundownsam3369 2 года назад
Rob, the law of God had nothing to do with salvation, it had to do with obedience, and being obedience to God law allow one to walk a right before God, not that it may one God's righteousness, we are made God's righteousness in Yeshua. Example of this walk was Zacharias and Elisabeth as stated in Luke, they both were righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord. Abraham himself, obeyed God's voice, and kept God's charge, commandments, statutes and law (Genesis 2:5). What commandments and law? It appears before he put the commandment on tablets of stones he gave them verbally, Zipporah know about circumcision. Since men have forgotten the law of God and his commandments he put them on tablets of stone, but the old covenant as previously stated was made with the fathers, what made the old covenant new was that God made it with the two houses, but this time within. Yeshua fulfilled many things and when before quoted Matthews 5:17, if you read the previously chapter one can understand why he made that statement, many things he had already fulfilled. I am talking about ten commandment and the Apostle Paul is clear in Romans 8:9 when he said that the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So, if the carnal mind cannot then who can? Correct, the believers. Jeremiah 31 is clear about the new covenant and the Epistle of Hebrews 10 confirms Jeremiah's passage. I state this in a respectful manner, you need to study Romans 8, then you will understand that the law of God is to be place in its right perspective and cannot be ignore. Again, I am talking about the Decalogue, and you cannot remove one, you either accept it or not. You need to understand that the Sabbath was instituted by God, he was the one that gave the law, the phrase "the law of Moses" is blinding many which is why christian brethren say they are done away with. My question to you, who gave the law, God or Moses, if you say Moses then God did not give the law, if you say God, then one has to be obedient to the law of God. Let me make this clear, many of the ordinances or instructions God gave Christ had fulfilled, like the sacrifice, Yeshua did it once and for all. Another thing, you did not respond to things that I mentioned, like the teacher of the law. Let me make this clear, I am not trying to nail you, I put it on the table it is up to the person to weight it and construe it truthfully, the Spirit of God is the one that enlightened our understanding with the truth of God's word, what God made clear when he first spoke. I will say this, it appears to me that the hebrew roots movement is a sect and all they talk is temple, I do not hear them talking about a walk with God in Christ.

Law keeping can never get any one to heaven, but only through faith, which came from Abraham. If you are to keep the laws, then you are cursed, Galatians 3:10. Remember that Titus 3:5 also says it's not the good things we do that saves us but only through Christ, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. If righteousness can be earned through following the laws of God, then Christ died for nothing, Galatians 2:21.

Are Christians watching Hulu or Netflix or Disney plus really resting in Him? Are Christians watching their favorite NFL or MLB or NHL or NBA team really Resting in Him? Look at the Ten. Can you recite them? Most Christians have trouble with this. No other Gods, that’s still relevant, right? No idols, still important, right, not taking His Name in vain which is really means not being a hypocrite, keeping His Sabbath Holy set apart for Him no longer relevant??? Honoring our parents, still important. Don’t murder, or can you do that now? No, obviously. No adultery. No stealing. No lying. No coveting. All summed are all about love. We in today’s church have literally changed the Sabbath Day to Sunday because of bad Bible translating. How? Jesus Rose on the first day of the week, which is Sunday, right??? No, Jesus Christ Rose on the first day of the week of week 1 of the 7 Weeks of 7 aka the Feast of Weeks. Jesus Christ Rose on Day 1 of the 49. The next Day was Day 50, Pentecost, the Day that the Holy Spirit was given. Jesus Christ Rose on the Hebrew Day called First Fruits. First Fruits is Day 1 of the 49. All 7 Hebrew Feasts sum up the full Gospel Message. Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Tabernacles, Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits and Weeks have all 100% been fulfilled by Jesus Christ. Actively practicing the efficiency of Jesus/the gospel for a 24 hour period with your family. People always forget about the part of the commandment that says "everyone in your house even down to the dog". This is extremely beneficial. Again Jesus is the sabbath. So to say the sabbath isn't necessary is to say Jesus isn't necessary.... agreeing with the idea that honoring the sabbath doesn't get you to hevan, but those who are headed to heaven have the sabbath. So make sure you aim attend to nothing but God on the sabbath while involving everyone you can. Don't try to make people, even your kids attend to God, encourage and give them an environment without distractions and tell them God is the only one that will give you the desire to place all of your hart and mind aka "attention" on him, let alone the ability to act on said desire. Again not about the actions but that doesn't mean what you do doesn't matter or have consequences, like your children going to Hell because they don't know what it means to worship God.... so yes you don't have to, but maybe it's not about you.... but YOUR FAMILY..... otherwise God will have to save them from a lot of easily avoidable pain and suffering. Don't do that to your kids... please.

But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. James 2:19‭-‬24 How do you justify solely on believing, when works is apart of it too? I look forward to hearing from you. She advocates Christians of today to mimic some of the practices found in ancient cultures.......one example being she sells for women ( for $45) the " tear jar" in which women should cry and collect their tears. ( I'll pass on that purchase.) McLelland teaches that when she took her first trip to Israel and the Middle East, that she had some kind of a mystical experience where she learned that Jesus " was better than she ever knew." According to McLelland, you can be as close to God by having this same experience. ( Nope, I'll pass on that suggestion, also.) McLelland explains that she got involved in Lifeway when some other women in Lifeway heard her speak and told her her teachings were " something new" that had never been heard before ( red flag) and that her teachings " make Jesus better than anything I ever knew." McLelland explains in a podcast ( referencing Psalm 19) that OT rabbis in Israel would lay down honey on wax paper and tell people to taste it , and then they would tell people that's what the Word of God tastes like. That's Middle Eastern mysticism. She then goes on to compare her Bible studies to this mysticism " It's not about the acquisition of knowledge, it's about posturing yourself to receive." She then goes on to teach that by placing ourselves in the "stories " of the Scriptures, we can be bettered " postured" to " eat the feast God has prepared for us." Rob, the Scriptures do not teach this method of Bible study, and nowhere in Scripture are we taught or commanded to place ourselves in these passages. These passages are not meant to be " feasts" for us to feed on, but rather to point us to Christ and glorify Him, who is the true and living bread and all we need. McLelland then goes on to say that " God's invitation is for us to work out our rest , from a picture of rest," and " the Sabbath has to increase as our work increase." She says our " souls are rhythmic and Sabbath is something we tune into." "The kingdom of God is coming to the ground. We tap or tune into it. Rest is a form of worship." That's far more akin to Hinduism or Kundalini than it is to a truly Biblical understanding of Christianity and true faith. We are taught nowhere in Scripture that we are to " tune in" to any kind of " rhythms" of the Sabbath, Christ, the Holy Spirit , or anything else. We are to know God by studying the Scriptures. Kristi McLelland is a false teacher.

With all due respect, Carmen, you don’t know what you’re talking about regarding Kristi. I know her personally and have heard some of her teachings and you have mischaracterized her. Her theology is solid. I actually think you would like her! That said, I’m not sure why you spent so much time commenting on Kristi The only thing I borrowed from her in this whole video is her phrase “string the pearls together.”

Indeed! “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them" Matt. 5:17.
