Is Kenshi taking place in the Warhammer 40k Universe? | Kenshi Lore

I have decided to make my first video in a while to be in a different kind of genre. Many Kenshi players have noticed that this game is extremely similar to Warhammer 40k in terms of Lore. So, this video is aimed to explore that idea further.

@@YOGI-kb9tg Nah, the Imperium ran into plenty of planets with robots and minor AI during the Great Crusade, and didn't resort to Exterminatus. Actually executing an Exterminatus was exceedingly rare during the Great Crusade. So rare that only the Emperor himself had the authority to order one. It was only later, during and after the Horus Heresy, that Exterminatus became more commonly used specifically in order to combat Chaos. But it would be many millennia before Exterminatus became as common as it would be in the 41st Millennium. Even then, the presence of heretical technology was pretty much never the kind of thing they'd destroy a world over. The AdMech would rather lose a billion Skitarii fighting a brutal ground war to recover any archaeo-tech the AI might be hoarding, rather than risk destroying sacred knowledge.

I think the imperium would Ignore kenshi. They did it with the tau. Look at it from an imperium perspective: it’s in constant war and would you really want to file the paperwork for an exterinatus? Also once they see beep, many would question their allegiance to the imperium. It would be better to just keep flying to the next world.

If Kenshi is taking place during Old Night M25-M30 then they probably wouldn't even be found because the Great Crusade doesn't really get going till late M30. If it takes place post M30 and The Mechanicus got wind of Men of Iron on Kenshi they would NOT allow them to continue like the Imperium did with the Tau. The Tau were a natural primitive society when first found, not the epitome of Mans folly.

Aren’t the shek supposed to be reengineered humans made to replace the losses in the skeleton army? Wouldn’t that place them as abhumans, and thus be useful like ogryns for warfare. Unlike beastmen and other mutants they seem quite stable in form and being as humanoid as they are they would be easier to equip as guard auxillia

@@phoenixdash549 So do a lot of other Abhuman's, but all things considered the Shek are pretty mild on the WTF scale of Abhuman's and mutants. (Just a little on the terms Abhuman's have a stable genome meaning each generation is pretty much the same as the last with predicable evolutionary drift in their genetics... while true mutants each generation is different with varying degrees of aberrance this being due to varying things such as mutagenic viruses, warp corruption, or possible nanotech... that or they have the psyker gene) Considering that Beastmen are used as slaves and conscripted cannon fodder in some places where as Ogryn's Ratlings and Felinid's are specialized guard troops and heavy labourers I can see the Shek having a good chance to be used in the guard especially as they are still pretty human like with their faces and body shape along with the relative common as their more or less humans with stronger muscles natural bone plate armour and heightened aggression.... The hivers are just DEAD their ain't no ifs or buts their just too different and the holy nations primary deity being what is essentially an AI titan is a big NO NO so I can see that being supressed into the dirt... greenlanders are a given in that their basic humans so they are getting integrated, scorchlanders may very well be considered just a more acclimated local human variant but there is the chance that they may be considered a bit close to the Abhuman line. Skeletons are absolutely kill on sight, Unless the one making the decision is a radical inquisitor

Kenshi harbors the Skeletons, which are ABOMINABLE INTELLIGENCE. That alone is grounds for Exterminatus. However, it has lots of old industrial and technological ruins, which MAY have STC fragments or useful technological knowledge to mine. The locals just have crossbows, substandard melee weapons, scrap armor, no firearms / vehicles whatsoever, harpoon turrets powered by compressed air canisters. That's it. Easy to pacify. And I guess some hostile fauna and cannibals but nothing too bad. A small expedition composed of an Adeptus Mechanicus Exploraror contingent, a few Imperial Guard regiments (preferrably artillery, assault infantry, airborne infantry and mechanized infantry), a small Navy escort, an Administratum team ready to take over the moon, as well as some transport ships with supplies for the expedition and to set up a minimum of supporting industry is more than enough. Mine the wasteland for tech from the Dark Age of Technology, bring the locals into Compliance, establish a small tithe of manpower for the Guard / settling of new planets or devastated planets, grab all of the criminals to make a Penal Legion out of them. Put a nice bounty on all Skeletons and Hivers. Either declare the Shek to be tolerated abhumans or wipe them out. Either wipe out / cull the hostile fauna or leave them alone to toughen up the population. If Kenshi gets classified as a Death World, this might make it good recruiting grounds for either the Imperial Guard or some Space Marine Chapter. Job's done.

Nah, the Imperium almost never destroyed worlds because of AI, especially during the Great Crusade when only the Emperor himself had the authority to declare Exterminatus. In fact, the presence of advanced robots and minor AI like we see in Kenshi is the kind of thing that gets the AdMech positively salivating over what archaeotech they might find. The vastly more likely scenario is that a legion of tech-priests and Skitarii descends on the planet, destroys the Skeletons, and starts digging up every bit of tech they can, in the hopes of discovering an STC.

I've determined both settings have absolutely nothing to do with each other despite the similarities. However, if one was to indulge this, I'd hazard to suggest that the game takes place not in the galaxy with the established Imperium, but instead before that, it is during the Age of Strife, likely sometime in the 28th or 29th Millennium. Also, Exterminatus despite the memes and Relic Game's obsession with it; It is used seldom by the Imperium in canon, requires Inquisitorial approval and is considered a last resort to deny the enemy a population, a resource or a base of operations, such as a planet that will become a deamon world or be dragged into the warp or completely overrun by xenos with no human alive and offers no strategic, economic or industrial necessity. If the nascent, early Imperium came across the planet during the Great Crusade, the Skeletons, Holy Nation and mutants will be immediately targeted for extermination, especially the skeletons, following this the Mechanicum would descend upon the planet like locusts searching for STCs.
@AreEia
@AreEia 9 месяцев назад
Kenshi would likely be subdued by the Imperium, Xenos and those skeletons cleansed, all human tech of value would be taken by the Mechanicus and after that maybe either used as a recruitment world for either AA or AM. The Imperium rarely wants to waste any ressources, and conquering Kenshi would likely only take about a day or two...

Well there are alot of Sci Fi or Post apocalyptic universe that got inspired by the 40k universe where that planet is "One in a billion of planets that the Imperium might have forgotten", One good example is the sci fi horror movie Event Horizon where it have a small hint of "Warp" where the ship Event Horizon end up being corrupted by the Chaos forces. Probably by Slaanesh due to self mutilation and sex orgy of the previous crew. Also in the past, Warhammer Fantasy used to be linked and set in same universe, but Gameworkshop being party crasher changed the lore in 6th or 7th Codex edition

I have my own fanfics that incorporate several fantasy/scyfi settings like the soulsborne series, armored core, the elder scrolls, Warhammer 40k and fantasy, deadspace, bionicle, etc alongside my own stories. and yeah kenshi too. IMO unlikely simply because the one Man of Iron we got officially from GW looks very different from the Skeletons in Kenshi. The war against the Men of Iron that eroded the Dark Age of Technology would have ended some 2 millennia later. And the Age of Strife started imediately after that, which would last for another 5 mellennia. If Kenshi were to take place in the 40K universe, the fall of the first Empire would correspond to roughly 22nd Millennium, or 22K, and Cat-Lon's empire may last for maybe 7000s years because it can be reconquered by the Imperium. So, timeline-wise, if the moon of Kenshi is not as remote as something like the Halo Stars, the Imperium could have simply let them be (see Lord Solar Macharias' crusade and why it ended); but even if it's not, there are more than 7000 years for the moon of Kenshi to be isolated until the Great Crusade launched by the Emperor in the 31st millennium. And again, if it's a remote system where the light of the Astronicon cannot reach, it can easily be let as-is, even until 41st millennium. Also the fact that no Dark Gods seems to have any presence make this also a fun, but ultimately remote, connection

The problem is that the connections Kenshi has to 40k are also just extremely generic sci-fi elements. Like, bread-and-butter-tier basics. Humans developing machines and robots that make life so easy life becomes dystopian? Blade Runner and frickin Wall-E do this. Machines ended up playing a role in the down fall of organics? Practically any sci-fi setting with robots, but lets name... The Matrix. Kenshi isn't in the 40k setting, the setting of Kenshi is just insanely unoriginal, just like 40k. But with 40k it's on purpose because its a satirical setting. With Kenshi it's just because no one is picking up a game like Kenshi for the lore, so there's no need to put effort into it. 75%+ of people who picked up the game probably haven't even played enough to know the game HAS a bunch of lore.
@CryingCreeperMLG
@CryingCreeperMLG 9 месяцев назад
When coming up with theories like this it's important to take a step back and go "Yes, these two settings share these elements, but how prevalent are these elements in the genre as a whole?" because 99% of the time, you'll see they aren't direct references or connections but rather just someone covering the basics of worldbuilding.

No it's not. The 40k lore just spans an entire galaxy, has stories / explanations for most worlds at most points in history across 40000 years in that galaxy, so it's easy to be like hey, that planet could have existed in there, from this time or this movie, or this game. None of these things take place in the 40k universe. COULD THEY? Absolutely. Meander on that. But if you're asking IS IT TAKING PLACE THERE? No. Absolutely not. Why would you even think that or suggest that? Our world even, the real one we live in, could exist in 40k. This could absolutely be a precursor to those events. Now let me ask the question "Is our world taking place in the 40k universe?" dumb right?
