There's so much superficial rubbish around and people sounding so certain in what they're spouting, that your more reflective voice is a true breath of fresh air.

Although skateboarding is all about freedom and having fun, I just love to analyze the technical aspects of the sport. That's why I love Sarah's channel, she's always making insightful commentary on skateboarding (that "street skates mostly pop and jump and freestyle skaters mostly pressure and step up" note was genius) Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
To me the raddest thing about skateboarding is how every skater in the world has their own style. Everyone is built different with different strengths and weaknesses, for example Ollies, kickflips, are very difficult for me and yet I can skate miniramp really well. Every human being is uniquely gifted
I don't think it is harder, but definitely requires some different skills. Learning freestyle is actually a great way for a street skater to gain even more board control. Like you mentioned how, you get to learn what happens when you apply pressure anywhere on the board.
Great vid. I feel like it was the opposite for me. Starting off on freestyle made it ridiculously hard to learn street skating. It went from having almost full control over what my board does to suddenly having to trust that this wax and coping works with me and doesn't send me to an early grave 😂
So dead on with this ! Really found that stepping on to a freestyle shape you can see how it is more designed towards, and focused on pressure flipping being so flat on concave. Hope you got to try those shapes out, looking forward to hearing about those ! Have fun out there
It's funny to consider the differences between freestyle and street skating since Rodney Mullen, a freestyler, invented most of street tricks (guy's even considered the godfather of modern street skate)
nah, goin from street to freestyle. those popular street skaters are gonna get a reality check trust me lol. i tried one freestyle trick, to stand primo on the rail and i gotta say, it was very uncomfortable. my board wouldnt flip out of the rail stand and im lucky i had something to grab onto or i wouldnt hit my head on something. never underestimate any skateboard trick.
Another great aspect of this theory is working out how they can complement each other if you're learning both styles at the same time. And after 4 years of slowly learning both (and also surf skating, which is a whole other rabbit hole), this is a light bulb moment for reference of why some of my f/s might feel off or why some of my street feels off...
