As a smaller game dev I feel it’s very disingenuous to call souls-likes “souls copycats” going by that thinking, 98% of modern games are just (insert first game of genre made here) copycat and is just kinda a reductive thing to say.
You might be right. This is my first non fromsoft souls-like game so I didn’t know what to expect from it: expected a souls game but just lower quality. The game definitely proved me wrong though, I loved it so much by the end
@@motorbreathjzThere's a difference in making an actual copy of a game and using mechanics from souls games to further enhance the game. There's a lot of copycat souls like that aren't nearly as good as Lies of P.
I love how in the intro it seems like she's whatever about playing souls clone, but as the video progresses you can tell she ends up loving it. This game was truly a masterpiece and I CANNOT wait for what they do next in this universe. It's great to have another company be able to make a game in this genre be as good as Fromsoft imo. Spectacular playthrough and skills. Subbed!
i believe the story was beautiful but combat was lackluster. i beat laxaxia in 2 tries. and nameless puppet in 3. these super hard fights everyone talked about were super easy. i was super disappointed. for laxasia you can just walk right and dodge half her kit then charge attack. for nameless puppet his first phase dies in 5 seconds to acid damage. and his second just wait for when he does the fury attack with a yellow glint to it. he staggers for so long after parrying it that you can just charge attack him to death. in my experience the first 5 bosses in the game were way harder than any other.
@@timothyfloyd3269 hopefully they will continue trying to make these types of games and get better. obviously its not as good as fromsofts games but if you looks at the previous games they made its nothing like lies of p. For a 1st attempt in a new genre these guys killed it especially when you take into account no other developers have been able to make a soulslike that garnered this much attention and praise unless its fromsoft themselves. Its nowhere near fromsofts level but its very impressive and even shows in the future if they play their cards right they can become a rival or at very least a competitor
@@imatowel5930 i know but this game is like super overhyped. a lot of people are saying its their favorite souls game ECT. but when i played it combat felt lackluster and very streamlined and AI wasn't even that good past the first couple bosses. they all felt like they just W key you with no variety except a couple bosses. while i did have fun with the game it was no where near as hard as people made it seem game was easy once you UNLOCKED all your combat mechanics.
@@timothyfloyd3269 I think that might be due to the amount of new players in the genre came in from that game. For example my favorite is bloodborne I think elden ring is the best for its open world and dark souls 3 was my favorite for pvp but bloodborne will always have that nostalgic effect that comes with trying something for the 1st time. I think that’s why people would call Lies of P their favorite if they start with that then branch off into other games also since it’s their 1st soulslike of course it would seem like the hardest game in the world. I could be wrong but that was my thought process behind it.
@@timothyfloyd3269 souls games have always had a difficulty slider, for [x boss] you can just do [y thing] then STOP DOING IT, maybe replay the game with a weaker build?
I gotta say, after many hours of playing myself, this is the most fun and still challenging non-fromsoftware soulslike i played so far. Its not too long and doesnt have an overwhelming open world, which is only good if done right (Elden Ring). It has, as you progress more through the game, some really nice and in depth mechanics. And a really cool weaponsystem. And of course, you‘re pinocchio with the ability to lie, who doesnt like that 😉
@@maxmaxwell343 I think they did a pretty good job, considering that soulslikes are normaly not open world like that. I also believe its probably pretty difficult to find the perfect sweetspot with those two things.
Incredibly impressive editing work. Not just the clever, funny edits that keep getting better, but the extraordinary job cutting a 51 hour run into something easily digestible while maintaining the pace.
She's definitely one of the best people at parrying I've seen for Lies of P. She parries like 90 percent of every attack I feel like a badass if I even do 60 percent. I actually thought the Nameless Puppet would attack to odd and mess up her timing but she still parried the shit out of him.
"I don't like souls copycats, just make your own game." They literally did just that, this isn't a genre that is should be exclusive to Fromsoft. Soulsborne purists try not to compare other games with similar gameplay to Dark Souls challenge (Impossible)
Soulslikes are more than welcomed in the community Especially good ones No idea why people say stupid stuff like make your own game They did, you're right
I mean, the whole genre's name suggests they are copies of fromsoft lol. Most mechanics in lies of p are from fromsoft's games but with a different spin, that's the whole point
@@mgms2000 Completely ignoring that there's a clear difference between "taking inspiration" and straight up copying so you can ride Fromsoft's shaft even harder is wild.
@@BobaSoda_ taking multiple whole mechanics from fromosft isn't just inspiration lol. The game is a copy, and it knows that, like I said, that's the whole point of the genre 💀
@@ELpeaceonearthcan't parry in fromsoft games can dodge very well tho odd considering I can parry in ghost of tushima on lethal and jedi survivor/fallen on grabd master
The way she destroyed the mad clown puppet was so good. God dawg Lies of P is awesome. The animation is so tight and cohesive, I hope Neowiz stay in this genre, they're on par with FromSoft for sure....if they had an Elden Ring sized project it would be God tier!
And here i was thinking to myself : man, i really must be the only person alive who thinks that ER is nothing but a cheap and cheesy overdeveloped soulslike game made in america with the help of fat and overfed americans. LoP is actually class. And i bet most die hard ER fans are Americans.
I don’t think any studio can match FromSoftware’s Quality BUT Lies of P is as close as you’ll get, Nioh 1-2, Thymesia, Lords of the Fallen, don’t even come close to the Lies of P at least in my opinion
Well tbf Lords of the Fallen is more like Morthal Shell in Elden Ring skin while Nioh is more like that ninja gaiden/tenchu or something like that injected with basic souls mechanic (health, stamina, parry). While Lies of P is like steampunk version of Bloodborne.
@@atomskthepirateking2776sekiro is way more lenient with its parry imo, you can actually kind of spam the parry button in sekiro and kinda get away with it, you can’t really do that in lies of P 😭 but to be fair both games i didn’t really struggle that much in
Word of advice don’t go into it thinking its anything like DS1-3 it is its own thing. Once you go in with that mentality you end up enjoying it more for how hard it is
Don't go with other people's opinions, play DS2 and I enjoyed it and play it the way it's more fun, people love beating this game but it has great things
So many of my fave moments from watching a majority of this playthrough live. From little parky being parky moments to well times cuts. Great video great editing good job
Just cuz Fromsoft pioneered a style of game, every other game that tries to put their own spin on this genre are not copycats. Thats like calling every 2d fighter after Street Fighter a street fighter copycat. But im making this comment before watching the whole video. Just wanted to say that because thats a sentiment some people can take too far.
I despise when people don’t give souls like games a chance not all of them are bad and it’s unfair to the devs who put hard work into such an amazing game
No matter how good you are in a "Souls" game, you need to learn anytime you start a new one, because it is based on your knowledge of the very game played, not the whole type of game. Indeed, becoming good at Skiro, requires knowing ennemy petterns, learning to react at ennemy move sets, same goes with every other games of that sort. So you really not getting good at "Souls" games, you becoming good at Sekiro, good at Dark souls, Bloodborn... New move sets, new patterns, means having to learn again as a beginner, i don't believe in "getting gud", you just learn everytime. I've seen people believing because they've finished Bloodborn many times, Dark souls would be easy... Capra Demon disagreed, the game is slower, but so is your character.
Never heard of you, but after 3 watching 3 minutes of this video I subscribed. Charismatic and I love your voice and manner(s) of speaking. Going to catch a stream ASAP.
I just completed this game and I genuinely consider it as one of my favorites. If I included it with the Soulsborne games, it would have a COMFORTABLE spot in the middle.
At the end, if your humanity isn't high enough, you won't cry for Geppetto, and Geppetto would just call you a useless puppet before he dies. Glad you were able to get good amount of humanity for real ending!
Also, if you choose to give your heart, game just ends there. Geppetto does make biologically "real" human, but it is implied that in essence you become more of a puppet of Geppetto as you kill all the hotel's residence after Geppetto orders it.
@@dirtiestharry6551 i made the role play choice to give the heart to geppetto, i really "liked" the bad ending cutscene but when i figured i missed a main boss for that it did hurt
Cool watch and impressive parrying forsure but that death counter was def not accurate haha. At 1:05:55 its at 122 deaths, dies to owl doctor, dies to random enemy in mine, dies of cliff, dies to puppet of the future... Still 122 until next boss. There were other areas like this too :)
I feel like she was handicapping herself because it looks like she should be doing way more damage with the wrench. I mean it still pretty impressive but still
100 deaths at puppet king. Wow. Glad you learned it tho. I've seen some people for hrs on the puppet king. Average is about 50 deaths after puppet king, so still not bad at all. I like the parrying.
The very start of the video was a brain dead take but I’m glad the game grew on you. I’m so defensive about this game because everyone just compares it to bloodborne and that just takes away its identity as it is literally NOTHING like bloodborne (the rally system is the only similarity).
@@madeofnapalm You mean the Mad Clown? That one was annoying because he had very unpredictable attacks and the game really wanted you to parry everything.
INCREDIBLY impressive gameplay. I recently played through and she simultaneously makes it look harder and easier than it felt for my run. Easy because her parry skill is off the charts, but I would really like to see the stats on that pipe wrench... Was there context missing where she didn't level it up on purpose to crank up the difficulty? It was doing soooo little damage, it made the fights seem so much longer here despite her being on another world of skill. Maybe she leveled it fine and it's just a weak weapon, but damn.
She was doing no damage cos at half-point of the game she started simply running through locations all of a sudden So she didn't purposefully refuse to level up, she just literally didn't have enough ergo
Maybe you've changed your mind since you made the comments that were in the intro of this video but I think soulslike becoming its own genre of video games is something that we should all want. Because its a genre that one, is really good and fun to play when done well and two, is hard to implement mtx other than large DLC into without completely failing.
It's astonishing how different this game feels in difficulty to different people. Even to those who nailed Sekiro. I had a ton of trouble getting into Sekiro and still haven't beat Owl Father or the harder bosses. But LoP feels natural. Maybe it's the timing. In Sekiro it feels like I need to deflect ahead of being hit while in LoP I can perfect guard exactly when I would be hit. Or maybe the visual cues are different. In Sekiro you have to watch when the weapon wielding arm moves towards you. In LoP you just watch the weapon.
Yeah I feel you! Imo this game is harder than any Dark Souls game that I’ve ever played. Idk what it is but this game is HARD man. Sekiro is also hard, but I feel like the learning curve is more forgiving eventually in the game. Hard to say which is harder though. In Lies of P tho, it rewards you for being more aggressive because of the regenerating flask mechanic and that’s what causes me to die a lot of the time. Plus my parrying skills are very hit or miss lol
@@youngrootv honestly both of them were easy for me but yeah i expected it to be way harder from what I was reading about it, don't mean to brag or anything but I was just expecting it to be a lot harder.
@@youngrootv i find sekiro way harder honestly, this game was fun for me and easy to finish maybe because i used a really good build but sekiro is a pain in the ass i reached a point where i wasnt even having fun playing anymore lol so i just quit without finishing it
@@ttcfarhat6709 In my case, I loved Lies of P and I'm currently playing through new game +. But I couldn't finish Sekiro because it's way harder for me.
Souls-like is a genre though. These games are not really "copycat" they just follow suit, and really this style of game existed way before Demon Souls (they were just seen in older generations, like PS1 and 2) From software were gracious enough to let the genre happen, as it's exactly what we needed. Most people after playing DKS , fell into a deep depression, because nothing else was ever going to live up to it. The first proper Souls like (IMO) was Salt and Sanctuary, made by a Husband and Wife team (that loved DKS) If From had not let these inspired games happen, the computer games space would be a lot worse for it. I know people who legit cannot play any other kinds of action games. They have to be souls likes. usually older guys like myself, that came from a completely different era of gaming (believe it or not a lot of games used to be like this. Legacy of kain games being a good example, and Ninja Gaiden, too) Dark Souls essentially revived some older gaming troupes in Demon Souls, and because of how watered down gaming had become, it was a total breath of fresh air. A lot of younger players, who had not experienced games pre PS3/xbox360-hand holding era, completely fell in love with the formula. I for one, love that From software didn't sue anyone, and let it all happen. I mean after all, it wasn't really much new, they just went back to when games were not as pandering, and hand holding as they were from PS3 onwards.
I LOVE souls copycats because I love souls games. Give me more. Give me a souls copycat every month. People say it like it's a bad thing. Please give me more games that are fun to play 😂
I can't watch Parky's stream on twitch as much as I want bc of my schedule so it's always a delight when these stream highlights hit YT and I can watch and not feel as much like I'm missing out
As someone who is going to be on NG+2 soon and watching my friend beat NG+3 the difference in damage taken and dealt is staggering between each playthrough. Some of the things she gets hit by and it does a bee's dyck of damage, on NG+3 would just outright kill you. Short story long, if you don't know the parry timing for consecutive playthroughs you're going to have a terrible time
I’m on NG+3 as well. I will say being able to normal guard fury attacks at that point and various other OP upgrades kind of balance it imo. My hardest playthrough was still by far my first
wrong, it's a bloodborne clone with some small differences but in itself it's a copy paste from Bloodborne's fighting mechanics and pace. Which is a GOOD thing, don't get me wrong lol.
it's comfortably a soulsLIKE but that's not derogatory, it's a genre at this point. It has so many influences that it wears on its sleeve that it's definitely its own (fantastic) game. The people calling it a bloodborne clone either have not played it or have severe brain injuries.
Laxasia is the toughest until you realize you can parry her electric balls. This game was pretty easy compared to other souls games but it had a great story and still challenged.
Started playing Lies of P, literally 2 nights ago and I'm already on NG+ at the Cathedral lol. (I'm very bad and I've been banging my head against the wall) Was comforting to see someone who is good enough to speedrun Skeiro, get hit by the same stupid attacks I did... even if they nerfed the hell out of everything lol. Was my first souls-like game that I've beaten besides Elden Ring. Probably one of my favorite games of the past 20 years. I feel like people really slept on it. Also if anyone is still reading this, what's your favorite boss? Mines definitely the Fallen Archbishop. This first boss with a second phase transition, and man did it hit so hard. Hope all is well with everyone! I have to get back to Lies of P now, I unfortunately chose the wrong option after Simon and didn't get to fight the Nameless Puppet... I'm suffering.
Lol what’s even more impressive then then your parrying skills… The fact that you didn’t use any of your weapons fable arts like at all lol it’s kinda insane especially on nameless puppet took 5 tries & the perfect guard grindstone
I like soulslike games, they produce games that has a different mechanic and sometimes a different timeline (not a knight in shining armor). Especially lies of p, it's not as punishing like dark souls, most of my boss fights were only 1st try, the barren swamp-thing and nameless puppet where the only thing i couldn't count my deaths. So yeah, lies of p is a great game to introduce the soulslike genre
Lieing isnt what turns you human and grows the paintings nose/weapon. Making the human choice is what your supposed to do. For instance giving sophia peace. Or killing alidoro and telling eugenie
