Is Living in CHINA really a GOOD IDEA?

I am thinking of moving back to Hong Kong so I can easily travel back and forth to China. Canada used to be a friendly place to live but not anymore.

@19:34, couples waltzing in the park; children riding baby roller coaster; toddlers feeding fishies on a small lake; elderly playing chess; and parents strolling with free spirit children. Just another ordinary day in Nanning. Some call it paradise.

I am sick and tired living in democratic city filled with dirty subway stations, homesless, durg addicts and unfriendly people. But I am planning to leave United States and moved to China in the future. I don't know when but hopefully in the near future. Thank you for your perspective , and opinions about my father home country, China. Great video.

For some reason, I have always felt completely at home in Nanning, There is a good, healthy "vibe" there.

Living in this wonderful country every day makes me forget about how good it is, thanks a lot for reminding me of it! We should all strive to appreciate what we have.

After 12 years in China, I did give Canada another shot. Brought my Chinese family there for 5 years. We all hated it and moved back to China. Much happier and healthier now!

You should join a local language exchange group. You teach them english while they teach you Chinese. You'll improve your chinese and make new friends.

In Vancouver, if a drug addict doesn't know how to inject the drug safety, the government will have a nurse to help him inject it safely instead of sending him for rehab. What is the government's intension? Helping them or encourage to take more drugs?

Gweilo, you made the right choice in opting to live there in China rather than Canada for the forseeable future. One of the things that truly sets China apart is the incredible care and attention they give to their public spaces, especially for older people. China's parks are absolutely spectacular in scale, even in 3rd tier cities I've found this to be true! The serene beauty of the lush greenery, the vibrant colors of the flowers, and the tranquil atmosphere make them a haven of relaxation at certain times of day, and at other times of day they come alive with activity, in the evenings and at weekends 🌸🌿😌 older people in China can freely enjoy these public spaces without the fear of being mugged or encountering crime. It's truly remarkable how China have acheived this given such a vast population!

I just came back from Vancouver BC. People there are means and rude and alot of haters and races... Not a country I recommend to live....

Weather. Yes it's tee shirt weather in the South - Nanning and Guangzhou etc. But where I am we've had snow since the beginning of November and today it's -17°C. China is a big place!

Chinese city parks are very fascinating. They are well lit and they will have a children's area, adult area and senior area. In Humen, Guangdong Province, Humen Park has a pagoda building on top of a big hill and a children's area with rides and festival food. For teenagers and young adults they have basketball courts, even a covered court with stands. Flowers everywhere and a jogging trail. In the morning there is tai chi and later music is played while people dance. All this within walking distance from the middle of the city.

Yunnan is my first choice for retirement. I have lived in Shenzhen for some years. China is very safe and living costs quite affordable and so many places to visit and so much happenings. Only issue I have is how to get permanent residency without a job. Perhaps China will issue retirement visa in future to foreigners similar to Thailand and Malaysia.

Chinese government is a real "government of the people, by the people, for the people.".

China is good

Please also considerate Greater Bay Area especially Zhaoqing the origin of Cantonese so you feel at home. People are friendly like Canadian! New international airport will be built and commenced operations 5 years later. High speed train to/from Hongkong within 2 hours travelling time. Air quality is excellent too!

Gweilo! Cheers from a Baozi Brother here...that was my go-to breakfast, snack, and sometimes dinner when I lived in Shanghai. Now I'm back in the states and am always overjoyed when I can find a Chinese restaurant that has baozi on the menu. Planning to live and teach in China again, possibly by this fall, and visions of baozi are definitely part of my motivation for returning. Thanks for another great video 🥰👍

My wife and I are seriously considering spending at least a few months a year in the GBA. Hong Kong is simply out of reach. I do agree that Canada is becoming increasingly expensive to live in. Social problems ( violent crimes, drug issues, housing, etc.) are getting out of control. And worse of all, the various levels of governments have no clue how to tackle these issues. Window dressing is all the politicians do. No effective solutions are being offered.

China can be a great life, but it’s important to be able to endure certain cultural inconveniences. Having a good attitude is essential, like in any country. It’s safe, pretty clean, and mostly friendly. And increasingly modern and convenient. The reality here is kind of half way between what the China bashers (Serpentza and his sidekick Laowhy86) say, and the Happy China/evil West brigade (Cyrus Johansen, Nathan Rich etc.) say. It’s hard to know what these grifters are trying to achieve, but good faith discourse it ain’t. One thing to consider if you are considering moving to China is the great economic uncertainty that hangs over the country. Every Chinese person knows what I am talking about. Foreign investment has collapsed, there is immense debt relative to GDP, the housing market is in genuine danger of collapsing and deflation is already occurring. There’s also massive youth unemployment. There are difficult times ahead, and the only question is how difficult the test will be. Unfortunately, Chinese history shows a clear correlation between economic downturns and social unrest. It’s going to be difficult to manage that. And in the longer term, the demographic crisis is going to be an even bigger test. The government is going to have to make smart decisions, or major social and economic problems are inevitable. We are heading into unknown territory.

I have a couple of friends here in the states that moved to the Yucatan Peninsula back about eight years ago now and they have a beautiful home on the beach in a little village about twenty-five miles outside the city of Meridia. They love it there and live well as everything is much less expensive.

If you can find a decent job or have savings, China is amazing place to live in

When i was working briefly for a Taiwanese company operating in Hangzhou, before every end of the month I had to travel by HSR to Shenzhen & stay overnight at the hotel. Then early next morning travelled like packed sardines to HK to an agency where they can arrange to renew our visa. I had to be there before 10:00 am in order to get my passport stamped with approved visa by 5:00 pm. Then quickly crossed back to China to catch the train back to Hangzhou so as to avoid staying one more night in Shenzhen. My Chinese female colleagues always envied me for the chances to go to HK. But sorry....I never like HK. I still prefer any city in China rather than HK.

Beihai is indeed the off beaten path but the sea food is great or used to be awesome!!! All those slow and lightly stir fried sand worms brings back so much memories.

@10:42, while China has actively mitigated or eliminated pollution sites and sources during the past 20 years, the US Environmental Pollution Agency ( EPA) added nearly 100 Superfund Sites during the same period. A Superfund Site is a heavily polluted land that requires a Super amount of money to clean up the pollution. As USA has a $40 trillion debt and is waging several protracted wars around the world , funding the EPA is low priority. The Hanford , Washington nuke complex ( build to create fissionable Uranium during the Cold War’s nuke weapon race) is still a Superfund site since its decommissioning 60 years ago as Hanford’s nuke waste remains a serious environmental problem without a remedy from the EPA.

You are 100% correct about the other vlogers, you all say more or less the same thing. There is a lot less crime in Canada than the UK. I was on V.I. BC for 10yrs before I came back to the UK to look after my Dad with his Dementia. The homeless in Victoria, V.I. and druggies is ridiculous for a capital city. Not sure what it was like in Nanaimo where you were.
