Lester you have a huge opportunity for continuous compost. Every week, collect all the hay/ manure from morrow hill etc and start dumping it in the dry soilless pasture to build up soil.
I was thinking that same thing. Yes, it would be time-consuming, I think at first. But once that compost is broken down, ready to spread out, it'll make the best soil to plant grass in. You could try making a small amount of compost, place it in an area where the grass won't grow, and see if it helps.
@@longhornlestersmake that a little less work for you by asking your family at Morrow Hill to load their scrapings into a dumpster or large garbage can so you can pick it up when you’re there on Saturdays. Your compost pile will grow quickly this way. Don’t forget to ask them to add all their table scraps the animals don’t eat as well as banana peels, coffee grounds, everything food to the compost. It will be very nutritious for the soil. Just look at Jason’s @Cog Hill Farm garden soil.

Lester, you are torturing yourself. You and Jami have handled everything that has come your way with grace and valor. No life is without challenges. God has not sent you anything that you have not triumphed over. You have learned a whole lot along the way too. I think you are doing a great job and you need to give yourself a break and pat yourself on the back for all the successes you have had thanks to you and Jami's teamwork. There has been alot of earthwork done, that has caused some of it. You never want to redirect the natural path of water, which has somewhat been done with the building of the pond.
@jillrip true. That pond was never dug right. With the slope all that pond water was pushing on the narrow spillway. Prob caused the leak. Add run off to that and it gets worse.

No doubt, wonderful things have happened at this gorgeous property and you and Jami c!early deeply love it. But, there's no question there is instability with the land itself. Cursed? I guess, since after living almost 70 years I've certainly learned anything is possible. However, for me, I guess I'd be wondering if God and/or my spiritual family were trying to guide me. But, guide me to stay and be the instrument to help the land prosper? Or leave as this was only supposed to be temporary? The best this old lady can advise is to keep paying attention, keep listening, keep praying...and you WILL find the answers you seek. I said it wouldn't work but kept on hoping it would. The rain comes every which way. You have hills which is an issue for rain except no flooding. It's the run off only from the pond. If the land were cursed, the pond would have collapsed, your big beautiful bridge wouldn't have held, Carl would have killed you, the fire would have taken everything, the ostriches wouldn't have beheaded the coyote which prevented untold death to goats, and on and on. It's sometimes hard to look on the blessed side, I've certainly been there, done that. You have unbelievable talent, an amazing personality and fantastic looking legs (OK..good looking legs) that still carry you and your load daily. It gets heavy at times but try not to let it get you down for too long. You've got this Lester with all of us behind and beside you. ❤❤❤❤

I can only imagine how awful the feeling of the spillway gash. My heart sank when I saw this last horror show. The challenges at LHL's have been huge. And you and Jami always make it work. My old dad would have said you certainly bought a pig in a bag , I bet the other people who sold it to you couldn't believe their luck when you came along to buy it,it's a beautiful place but it's certainly has had its issues .did you think any more about having a native American holy man come out and cleanse the property.i do think there're more things out there than we know about.But it could also just be drought and flooding that are causing the issues, there are ots of us out here praying things will get better xx

The power companies in majority of states will cut trees that are dangerous for power lines, if you call them and report the situation. Remember they cut along your power lines when you first cut the property. If you have a local power coop as your power company they usually jump on these situations if you report it.

Hang in there Lester. Maybe you should get them to come out and extend the rock down. Would in be possible to build a little wooden bridge over the rocks? Probably 4-6 feet wide. Would not have to be as heavy duty as the driveway bridge but heavy enough to handle horses and maybe a side by side.

I really think they’re all just results that are finally showing up from the drought. I want to cry for you. Then the chainsaw not starting. I think the property always had issues Lester. Maybe that why nobody built on it prior to you purchasing it. You did the right thing consulting about the pond. You can always build a little bridge for the animals and you to get through a creek and it would look beautiful. Before you build anything more or put in a barn, I would consult with an architect/engineer to make sure the hills and water won’t affect it and drain properly. The good news is the old spill way held up.

Absolutely! I live on a property that I swear is cursed. Anything that can go wrong does go wrong. Simple things that should be no big deal always turn into a huge deal. Everyday I curse and regret the decision we made to buy our property. The laundry list of things that has happened to us over the last 9 years is frightening 😞
Any time you have hills you are going to have erosion. Especially if you do not have rocky soil. Your property isn't cursed. Maybe get that preacher to come pray for LH Lester's.
I was thinking about the changes you made to the property and unfortunately the came back to bite you no fault of your own. The big pond wasn’t there before but it’s been a nightmare. The road you made down to the river for easy access seems to be eroding every time you walk it and the side of the hill where you burn brush to get a better view of the river is causing a lot of erosion. I would have given up all ago but you are a damn good fighter and that’s when a like about you don’t give up. Everyone is praying for the weather this year is way better than the last two with droughts. I always think of your J&L property with a nice house you can build and all the animals you want there. ❤️

LOL My niece this morning at 6:30 I was driving her to work, she went to pull her hair up and shot me in the side of the head with her hair tie, then she forgot to grab her work boots, we had to go back for them as she works in a hardware store.

Maybe if you put rocks all the way down, you could build a bridge over the rocks for the animals to cross. I think where you have the rock rows it maybe would have been best to place a culvert straight down to the bridge with the rock rows going over the culvert. That way most of water would flow down through the culvert and what the culvert can’t handle then the rocks would slow down the rest. I hope you guys can get it figured out. It sure is a pretty piece of property! You just need to work out the few problems it has. ❤
I dont think it's cursed...it's just life..I could go on and on with what I have had to do on the interior and exterior of my home. At the end of the day we all go through similar things, which brings us together to support one another. I think extending the big rock will help. I pray for you and Jami to get a breather.
