Sh$t I did Core Mark for 4 months and literally quit at my second stop at a 7-11 in August on a 105 degree day - I wouldn't go back to food service for $60 an hour!!! That was back in summer of 2017... At $37 an hour now in LTL (started at $27 an hour back in 2018). ... For those wondering R&L starts at 31-33 hrly at least here in San Joaquin / Stanislaus county California (I don't work for R&l I work for a smaller LTL company out of Manteca, California). I pretty much always just head to my stops business or residential and if I have any question that I won't have room to turn around I won't turn into a certain parking lot or Street and will find somewhere to park put my flashers on and get out take a walk and check for myself. If we're in a 48 or 53 and even think it's not doable all we have to do is put down needs 28 or bobtail and it goes out the next day.
Doing both ltl and food service are two different worlds!!!! My experience I wouldn’t recommend food service to my worst enemy!!! Ltl way easier and you not touching every case.
I THINK YOU CAN FILM JUST NOT WHILE YOUR DRIVING AND THE CAMERA HAS TOO FACE OUTWARD NOT FACING YOU WHILE YOU SPEAK INTO THE CAMERA WHILE DRIVING SOME OTHER TEAM GOT FIRED FOR THIS A FEW YEARS BACK AT RL CARRIERS.. THEY SAID THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT.. SO YEAH ID ASK FOR SURE BUT ITS BEST NOT TOO RISK YOUR JOB..
It seems LTL is a lot better. It depends on what type of person you are, but LTL sounds way easier. It's good you're still able to get around with diabetes. I hear you big time on the health insurance and outrageous prices of things 😂. Good callout too on not to be in a hurry with deliveries. As Alex Nino said, its not worth rushing and risking getting into an accident. You only get there 5 min faster so its not worth to get somewhere 5 min faster. Hope you're doing good man!
Not really , the slow season is a lot worst in LTL compared to food service. January, February is probably the worst for us here in central transport. No work most the time
No idea about the Central transport guys situation, but there is no slow season where I'm at, and I can confirm that there is no slow season or lack of work at 9 out of 10 ltl companies. In my last 6 years of LTL I've never worked less than a 9-hour day unless I requested it.
What you made in two weeks in food service, you make in a week now? I've been thinking about RL but was waiting see a video like this. I've done Sysco and now I'm drywall and have to stock it.
Foodservice was so hit and miss with paychecks, all depended on what stops and how many cases I had for the routes. Most of the time I am bringing home the same a week as I did in 2 weeks with foodservice
Cool stuff. I just recently got my CDL and I'm getting started with Gordon food service, definitely a little bit of apprehension about the hours (getting up super early) and work load, but gonna try my best to keep a positive attitude. If it turns out to be too much I might give XPO a shot as they don't require experience afaik. Glad it's working out for you tho. 👍
I've heard pretty good things about Gordon compared to other companies. It takes a good couple months to get these to the schedule, but keep pushing through it and you'll adapt!
HOW MUCH DO TEAMS PAY PER MILE AT RL CARRIERS? I KNOW THEY PAY BASED UPON THE RUN BUT THERE IS SOME KINDA OF EQUATION THEY USE THAT FACTORS IN THE DROP AND HOOK PAY AND FUELING AS WELL AS CPM ALL BUILT INTO ONE PAY PACKAGE WHICH IN RETURN ENDS UP PAYING BASED UPON THE RUN TIME AND MILES..
im a team driver at RL i have make 2671 gross every week gone m-f home weekend. i couldnt even tell you how much it is per mile but if im right i think i was told its 6108 miles a week but its probably a little more than that
@connors4839 thanks so its safe too say you like it at rl carriers and the money is good? You must be on a bid run i take it? Where do you run out of? I applied at the ellenwood ga terminal. Is central dispatch really as bad as people say or are they manageable?
@connors4839 from my calculations that comes out too 0.43cpm x 2 so equals 0.86cpm or split pay is 0.43 cpm either way the math is the same weather you times 0.43 x 6108 or 0.86x 3054 miles if you split the miles or split the pay the math equals the same numer your 2671 stated above.. now we both have our answers because last November they were paying teams 0.79cpm so they had an 0.08cpm increase since the new raise this year seems like 👍 thats a good raise..
@connors4839 yeah idk why but they wont hire me. I applied twice the last few weeks it said under consideration then a few days later it said not retained.. i called and left a voice mail to call me back couldn't get a hold of anyone nor could i get anyone to call me back.. so i very much felt avoided on purpose..
