Thats exactly what skip does. He categorize’s players based on the hype they receive. People say Luka is the best player or top 3 in the NBA. so he’s gonna be judged at a championship level. I love Luka, but skip respects him as well. He just plays by the ring of the public with what they say about players

Idk...Luka is 23 (edited bc I originally put 22) and has 0 rings, and not a ton of playoff success. His rediculous numbers are a product of the era he plays in. With the same defrnsive rules Bird played with, Luka's numbers would not be as good. I agree that it's way too early, and insulting to Larry Legend, to be making the comparison right now.

As a person who saw Larry Bird Play. He Does have his Mannerisms at times, Like when Devin Booker stole the ball form Luka, and Luka stared him down and smirked, Larry would absolutely do that. and when Luka smirked after getting beat by Golden State G1, Larry would absolutely do that. BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT SMILING OR LAUGHING DURING GAMES.

@@sirrmanning2769 to be fair, Luka literally just turned 23, and he has to carry his team offensively. So yes, he isn’t a good defender at the moment. However, we need to consider how Bird literally entered the NBA at 23. Not to mention, bird’s team was stacked to where he didn’t have to carry everyone offensively. So yes, bird was the better defender, but it makes sense why if you look at the context

Luka and Larry's play style isn't that similar but Luka definitely has Bird's confidence which is the most important thing. Alot of what makes Luka so good is the simple fact he knows how good he really is and his opponents can't play the mental game with him, much like Bird.

Luka is a better version of James Harden. If Luka wasn’t white, nobody would be making the comparison to Bird. Bird played completely differently than Doncic. Extremely high basketball IQ, gifted creative passer and one of the best shooters in NBA history.

Less teams = less amount of professional worthy players but I do agree if you’re a star, you’re a SUPER STAR so it may feel like the best era of stars. Now there’s so much talent that it’s hard to stick out and when you’re in that higher tier there’s even more competition there. At the end of the day just enjoy basketball, the game has always been in good hands and I don’t see that changing. These playoffs are proving just that with these next generation of stars

I love that they're both Caucasian lol. Larry Legend was a way better shooter & defender, had much more around him. Honestly they're both great, but nothing alike besides skintone & fearlessness. Hard to even say Luka is a greater facilitator of the offense bcus I would never doubt Bird could do it if he had to. Luka is more like Lebron honestly, but even that's a stretch given the athleticism margin

Luka is something else. He plays point forward. Larry was a small forward who played alongside 1 and 2 guards. Larry could shoot and so can Luka, Larry was a dynamic passer and so is Luka. We can say the same thing about a number of players. Nobody plays like Luka or really ever has. Same thing can be said for Larry Bird. He was a one off.

@@Pdiddy860 Bird was a better mid range and 3 point shooter. Luka finishes better around the rim. Luka's true shooting % is higher than Birds. Bird pulled down more rebounds, and grabbed more steals while Luka scores more and he assists on more scoring. I'm using their first four seasons as comparable. Their games are very different. I don't like the comparison.

Respect your opinion. But to say it’s disrespectful, that’s outrageous. Do you see anyone of Lukas teammates going to the hall of fame? His second best option for the past couple of years is Tim jr. And hes injured…. Now Lukas game doesn’t mimic birds by no means. I would say jokic game is a lot more similar except larry was much faster and quicker. Which is funny because everyone underestimated larry because of how slow and unathletic he was then got torched.

I’m with Shannon Sharp. I was and am a huge Bird fan. But MJ grew on me but I actually and personally think Bird is the GOAT and Kobe better than Jordan because Jordan had to be mad or find a reason to give the other team that work and trust me! There is no one close to MJ when he was putting in work. But Bird and Kobe played and did what they wanted when they wanted. Bird was so good, he was bored and trying new stuff on the court

What Shannon said around the 7:30 mark is why I don't like to compare the younger players to previous greats... Yes Luka is a great young player tremendous talent/ gifted player but it takes away from a player's greatness when you compare them so early in their career to a Michael Jordan, magic Johnson Larry bird etc just let the young players develop because alot of these guys aren't in their prime yet... Giannis is in the beginning of his prime but the other young players are 25 and under

Luka is not the modern day Larry Bird. There may be some initial similarities between the two. For those that are too young and are unfamiliar with the damage and dominance that Larry Bird was inflicting on the NBA , please research and watch video. Skip is correct. The three year period, 1984, 1985, 1986, Larry Bird was clearly embarrassing all opponents, striking nightly fear, dominating, winning team championships as the best NBA player in that era and position. Not enough credit is EVER given today by the present day buffoons in the sports media when comparing and anointing the current NBA players and describing them as the GOAT. Yes, the game has evolved, the modern day players are stronger, faster, quicker, jump higher, train better, have more coaches and specialists, eat better, are clearly compensated better, longer careers, more opportunities to play on the world stage and receive better benefits and treatments for injuries. Also, I believe every franchise has its own team plane. Please give Luka more time. He does not strike fear yet. It will come soon. So will the MVP’s and better big time teammates. He will surpass Dirk easily.

Luka plays zero defense and is a mediocre shooter so I think the comparisons to Larry Bird are a bit premature. But Luka is headed in the right direction as long as he takes care of his body and doesn't come into the start of NBA seasons overweight like this season

Larry Bird was a prodigy to play basketball in the 80s. He was a better shooter, more creative and versatile scorer (he was crazy), better rebounder, a legendarily clutch player, and more willing and creative passer. But he wasn't a guard like Luca is. Bird didn't have the handle or forward facing game that Bird had, but his post game and back to the basket game were equally impressive. And lastly, unfortunately, Bird lost in the playoffs many times while being the frontrunner. Bird today would probably be considered the same position that Jokic is. Dude he was so awesome to watch. Every shot of his made no sense and it felt like his whole game was made off of this INCREDIBLE fundamental base that let him uncork ridiculously angled moves and passes and shots. So cool.

The thing that annoys me about Skip, in this situation, is the comparisons aren't supposed to be 1 to 1. They are similar in that they have killer instinct, monster levels of confidence, great passers and they are both relatively unathletic. The comparisons aren't supposed to be they the exact same player and they'll both achieve the exact same level of success. Also comparing championships is idiotic. Bird's teams were legendary. Dallas has one star or better player and it's Luka. So, of course he's gonna struggle to win championships 4 years into his career. Lol.

It's corny to compare any new player to an all time great, imo. All it does it sets them up for "failure" when they can't or don't live up to expectations. Same as lebron and MJ comparisons. It made MJ fans hate lebron, and pray for his downfall instead of enjoying his game.

Instead he maybe could've built his team in Cleveland, no Dwade maybe, but still a solid cast and win at least 1 ring, which he did. And that 1 ring means more than his Miami and LA rings combined. He would've won 2 at least if he stuck it out and brought players to Cleveland. Also, the 3-1 finals comeback. You're just hating a man who is living the NBA dream.
