I've gotten so many Dior products for free as a Sephora employee and the performance and pigmentation is pretty wack for POC. I've given away Dior finishing powder, highlighters, the old blush formula, concealers, the spray foundation (discontinued) the matte foundation. Individual products are better than falling into entire brands.
Imo luxe makeup is about the experience AND quality. But that used to include shopping in store. Now that it's largely online or in department stores, that's changed. Now, I feel many luxe brands aren't quality and despite the money and access they have, they keep their products exclusive (bad shade ranges), cheap packaging that breaks or rubs off, and not unique compared to drugstore or mid-range.
I will die on the high end/luxury makeup hill. In my experience cheaper makeup don’t have as sophisticated of formulas. That being said a lot of luxury is in the packaging. However I only like expensive complexion products/ powders and eyeshadow. You can really see the difference in formulas when it comes to eyeshadow and complexion. I just prefer the high end/luxury experience.
I tend to reach for luxury/high-end more because I personally see and feel the difference too! But I think at the end of the day, other people will not notice whether I’m wearing Chanel or Maybelline (obviously lol). Everyone values different things, so I get see the controversy.
@@ellerchu I get that no one will be able to tell. But you can! And makeup at the end of the day is personal! And if it makes you feel good wear it. I also like to invest in my makeup. I like having high quality makeup to create high quality looks. But I’m also on a no buy for the rest of the year so I can use and appreciate what I have!
Some highend brands DO indeed have superior formulars, but drugstore isn't that far off anymore nowadays. The differences once applied and sunken in are too small to get noticed by the general public, unless they're way into makeup, which most people aren't. No one will know if it's a Dior or Elf gloss, no one can tell the difference between a NYX & Victoria Beckham liner. The differences are so slight that it doesn't change your look dramatically.
maybe you just got a shade that you didn’t like! i had the same problem using the shade pink quartz, but then i decided to get another one in the shade rose envy, and the latter is way more pigmented it’s more like a lip gloss!
I like high end products and find that it is worth it, as having tried a lot of drug store as well, other a few picks like say the NYX brow pencil and elf products, most drugstore products are worse than high end for me anyway... especially for powders, concealer, highlighter, lipstick, blushes and foundation, I find high end does these much better. Drugstore is fine for brows, eyeliners and mascaras but thats it imo. I usually go for high end like NARS, Huda etc price range rather than those super expensive luxury fashion brands, other than maybe Pat mcgrath and natasha denona
Agree. Drug store formulas look terrible. Too many sparkly blushes. I find a lot of drugstore formulas perform poorly And disappear from my skin and transfer badly.
I still don't understand why some luxury brands include that terrible brush with their blushes or the sponge eyeshadow applicator with their million dollar eyeshadow quads💀
You hit the nail on the head regarding CT Hollywood flawless filter for me. I simply hate the fact that it doesn’t set down, rest everything about it I love, for that reason I stopped using it🙈🙈 I also think a lot regarding shopping with luxury or high end makeup products is understanding that sometimes a brands aesthetic need not match your own aesthetic. If you want one swipe pigmented lipstick maybe Charlotte Tilbury is not the one for you, but if you want everyday wearable comfortable lip shades which are more nude and subtle then it is the go to brand. I also love Dior’s foundations coz they have multiple good undertone choices, but I wouldn’t buy eyeshadow from them because they don’t give what I want from my eyeshadow palette like pigmentation, sparkle etc
I do not recommend Dior lip oil to people like me who dislike minty scents. The shade was nice but can not stand the tingling/cooling. Clarins is much better 😊
I feel like expensive products are viral because they are a known brand but it’s not always a good product sometimes it’s overhyped but sometimes it’s a really good product. Also I love your videos I try to not miss them but sometimes I’m a little bit late love your videos keep it up!🥳🛍️
Everyone was always raving about pmg eyeshadows so I bought a quad. I only use one of the shades and tbh it’s just an ok palette lol. I also bought the Charlotte tilbury cream eyeshadow in pillow talk and decluttered it because I loved an elf cream one more. Kind of wish I would have kept it sometimes for the price and feel lol, but on me it pulled more gold/brown than pink and I wanted pink. I hope my sister has been liking it lol. They changed the formula of the elf multi sticks and I still have not found a dupe for it *sigh*
while i do love expensive makeup/skincare/haircare products, atp there are so many dupes and cheaper products that have perform the same that i dont even know why anyone would spend a lot of money on expensive brands
From my experience, I prefer mid-range or high-end products over luxury and drugstore. I find that the quality for specific products are better. But I do have holy grail favorites from the drugstore I can't live without. So a good makeup routine for me has both!
I feel like the higher end of luxury is more scammy because at a certain point the product can't justify the price, and a lot of these luxury brands aren't properly catering to poc. That said, for certain products, it is worth splurging on midrange and luxury products. It all depends on your look and budget. The rest can be drugstore or cut out entirely.
Hiii I love your video but you should put your perfect shades match for foundations in description It can helps people as the same complexion of you Instead of watching a tons video about it 💗💗💗💗
Hi Elle! I just found your Chanel and I love! And your perspective is spot on!!! And by the way, I’m also fan of Dior. Lip wise, I don’t find Elf oil as good as people say. I still 💯 stay with Dior and guerlain. Try the guerlain kiss kiss line 😘 you’ll love … I think
@@ellerchu it’s so beautiful. I usually just put it on the high points on my face both with and without foundation. I get compliments on my skin whenever I wear it ❤️I think it looks very natural.
I’m more a fan of GUERLAIN skincare than makeup, but I like the GUERLAIN powder blush and I like the GUERLAIN meteorite setting powder, although meteorites have a scent..
I have been Watching you since 4k! Love your videos! Do you have any advice for me I just started a RU-vid beauty channel so advice would be greatly appreciated
I’ve been making videos since I was 11. But it didn’t really click until last year after many years of trial and error and getting more educated on marketing. This isn’t to say your journey will take as long 😅, but everyone’s experience looks different. Focus on learning from every post and enjoying the process!
@@ellerchu do you have another channel? Because your oldest video on this channel was about 11 months ago? I love how dedicated you are to yt! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE
