The L200 is also called as the "Triton" or in other countries as "Strada" its been a popular truck here in asia, and is very reliable, its engine is the same as the Pajero Sport or also know as the Montero sport, its powertrain is 181ps @3500 rpm and its torque is 430Nm @ 2500 rpm, here in the Philippines we drive at left hand drive also ☺️ its a very good pick up truck and it comes standard here with a bed liner.
This is my truck, I got it last week. Unfortunately the L200 has been discontinued in Austria for 2022, I bought one of the last 2021 models. Check it out on my channel (now with English subs!). The 4x4 system is great, with a full time 4WD option plus center and rear diff lockers. I put KO2 tires on mine.
@@bernardhossmoto the Nissan Navra is badass truck! if I had the means I'd get my butt over there and buy one and ship it to NJ in a heart beat! I saw the video on RU-vid and I love that version!!!
Best selling truck here in Chile for a while now, very reliable, used a lot as work trucks (most work trucks here in south america are mid-size) but also available in higher trims. Available in part time and full time 4WD systems, both with low range. The 2.4 diesel is enough because the L200 is lighter than the Ranger, Colorado or Hilux. We have left hand drive here too, so not exactly a "conversion". This is already the facelifted version of this generation, sold here since the 90's, I think this should be the 4th or 5th generation already.
I have this truck in Honduras, here it's called the Sportero in top trim, or the L200 in basic trim. It has a 2.4 liter diesel with 181 hp and 317 lb-ft, and a 6 speed automatic transmission. There is an SUV called the Montero Sport which uses the same platform and engine, but with nicer interior trim and an 8 speed auto.
@José Cisne they’re also popular as well in El Salvador. They’re very common to find on the roads of El Salvador, along with the Hilux and the Frontier. And they’re diesel and also comes as a manual option, along with an automatic.
This is exactly what Mitsubishi needs here in the US. I definitely would buy one. The market is hot for pickup trucks and it’s a vehicle that would bring more customers to the brand.
Agree they come with a 2.4L terbo 4 3 versions they would have to sell the most powerful version that makes 201hp and 334 turq the truck is achully being entirly redisin d so they are putting a hold on it
This is too get more models on the showroom floor. American Mitsubishi dealerships have begged for a truck from Tokyo for years. Mitsubishi will dodge the chicken tax by their alliance with Nissan, meaning this truck will be a rebadged Frontier with a Mitsubishi front fascia, 4WD, and their spec suspension.
We have them in south America for already over 30 years. I own one and love this truck, not the fastest but since it's a 3.2 diesel it pulls any Dodge 1500 without trouble on the tug of war.
I own a 2007 Mitsubishi Triton here in Latin America specifically Panama. It came leather interior, sunroof, power windows, rear power window, automatic transmision 5speed. It has low range and I use as daily driver and my overlanding car. It has up until now 350K kilometers and still running no issues. It has proven to be bulletproof and reliable. And I have beaten it up pretty hard overlanding and mudding through the country. It is a Diesel 4 cylinder, but it has enough power and torque to get me out of anywhere. I usually tagged along in 4x4's trips along jeeps, and patrols. And I could go same places they went, no issues.
These pickups are true workhorses, Mitsubishi has been selling the L200 in Mexico since 2008 and they are well known for their strength and durability in the mining industry. The diesel engine is excellent, but I guess they can use the V6 that they offer in the Montero Sport.
The Mitsubishi L200, the Nissan frontier or np300, the Toyota Hilux and Fortuner, the Ford ranger, Chevy Colorado, the Volkswagen Amarok (my favorite), the Mercedes Benz X class, the Isuzu DMAX. Those are the trucks we have in Latin America. Solid small trucks with relatively small turbo diesel engines (i don't think they comply with the US emissions regulations), way more reliable than any American full size truck . Fun to drive, awesome platforms to make off-road and Overland rigs, solid working trucks that have awesome gas mileage compared to the full size ones. I really hope you can start getting this awesome trucks and you can test them!
Also, this trucks average 30 miles per gallon ok the highway! I've own a Hilux and a DMAX and they both are amazing ok gas, reliability, comfort and they are fast!
My very first purchase was a Mitsubishi Mighty Max in Anchorage, AK. Had a heater but no a/c which was understandable. Drove it down the ALCAN & then took a shortcut through Washington state on my way to Austin, TX for my next duty assignment. Loved it. Basic but absolutely loved it. Can’t Wait to seem them here again.
I saw one here where I live fully decked out with all the off-road mods you can think of even a snorkel, I live in south Texas right by bored and people from Mexico drive cool trucks here they make ranger and Colorado look plain and dry 😆
I had a 1987 Dodge D50 (rebranded from a Mistubishi) loved it. I currently have a '17 Outlander (4 cyl turbo) both have been very robust and great to own. I'd consider one of their trucks again...
Love how excited Andre got when he saw the left hand drive. Also, it would be great if they brought it to Canada/USA. As a value brand, they could bring a great value proposition.
I think it's just there in America for testing. The current model that the rest of the world has was released in 2014 (facelifted in 2019). The truck pictured is Mitsubishi developing the next generation model, but still at the early stages of development. It's a test mule, with new & improved chassis mashed with the old body (you can see the wheels&tires not fit right into the arches for the mules). This is likely still 2-3 years away for global markets. The L200/Triton is more of an Asian/European/Australian-flavored midsized pickup, so I highly doubt it will make it to the U.S. If it will, there has to be significant mechanical changes for the US-spec (just like how the current Ranger was released in the U.S. 7 years after it was introduced in the rest of the world with significant mechanical differences from the global model, or how even the US Chevy Colorado is basically a completely different vehicle compared to the global Colorado), or just make a completely different pickup for the U.S (like Toyota Hilux vs Tacoma, Nissan D23 Navara vs D41 Frontier). If Mitsubishi wants to sell a pickup in the U.S, they should just rebadge a D41 Frontier instead.
It's is possible to sell this vehicles, there's enough market we get Tundra, Hillux and tacome here in Mexico, and for most of their life we got frontier, titan and small titan. So it would possibly for it coexist, no we also get the V6 frontier and Mexican frontier
Feel free to correct me, but I think the name applied by Mitsubishi, and sold in the U.S.A., to their "compact trucks" back in the 1970s was something on the order of "Mighty Mitis". A lot of people purchased those trucks for light duty usage (under half a ton as the trucks were more along the lines of a quarter ton in terms of hauling capacity). Datsun and Toyota produced small, nearly lookalike pickups during the same period that sold every bit as well. I think that first generation small Ford Rangers and Chevy Loves were rebranded versions of Japanese products back then too. I can't recall what Dodge called their little truck, but I do recall they sold pretty well in our part of the Southeast back then. I'm about 99% percent certain that there were "dealer installed" 4X4 "kits" for Chevy Love, Datsun, Toyota mini pickups back then but I don't recall such kits being available for the equivalent Mitsubishi, Ford, or Dodge branded mini trucks. One thing that the majority of those early mini trucks had in common were four and a little later, five speed manual transmissions, but all of them had really solid if underpowered, by today's standards, four-cylinder carbureted engines.
I'm from Trinidad, those spy imagines are definitely the current gen l200/Triton/Sportero/Strada. I've been hearing for months now that Mitsubishi been planning on selling the Triton in the USA. This is just further confirmation. Triton is the king of the pickups, much better than the hilux ever was tho the hilux fanboys would never admit it. I have a 2007 Triton 2.5 L and it has been absolutely phenomenal, very strong, reliable, monster off road, can carry over a ton of payload and tows well. Glad that's it will come to the USA but I believe the interior will be vastly different to the current gen because the current interior is a bit cheap and to compete in the USA market thry need to improve. As for the engine, they'll probably put a gas in it and it probably won't be a Mitsubishi designed engine which sucks because it really won't be a full Mitsubishi design. The engine is the heart of the vehicle and without a Mitsubishi engine you won't be able to fully enjoy the vehicle, best that I can explain it.
In asia the triton is as reliable as the hilux but has a much better handling than the hilux. As for the performance the new hilux has 204 hp vs 181 hp on the triton but in many independent test shown the triton wil out handle and out accelerate the hilux all day. The only thing the hilux has in advantage is the dealer network.
To this day, my all time favorite vehicle to drive was my Dad’s 1989 Mitsubishi Mighty Max 2.6 5 speed manual 4WD. We cried the day he sold it, and from time to time mention it in conversation.
They sold the current L200/Triton in the UK and Europe until recently. They have ceased to import them. Indeed they have pulled out of Europe altogether. The last of UK L200 will just about have been sold out by now. It is one of the lightest weight trucks of its size. with a noticeably small profile chassis. It was/is very popular here because it was reasonably priced but although for Europe it has suspension rated to carry over 2200lbs payload, until the last year or two it was not rated to two 7700lbs [3.5 tons] as most others are. In fact during the last couple of years the current version has been uprated to tow 3.5 tons but only with triple axle trailers. No idea why but guess that the braking and weight was inadequate for twin axle over-run trailer brakes. On the plus side it has super-select 4wd which allows use in 4wd high with an open centre diff on paved roads and due to its light weight is just about the only pickup here that can legally carry its full one ton payload at the same time as towing its full trailer mass. It uses the same Aisin Warner auto gearbox as the Isuzu pickup. Both only available in the UK with turbo Diesel engines. Since it has been discontinued in Europe and Australia, and Mitsubishi itself as a car manufacturer has some doubts about its future, it is unlikely that they would start selling it in the US now in my opinion. It is a slightly smaller and lighter rival to the Ford Ranger.
Mitsubishi sold dodge trucks as there own in the 80"s. I had a mighty max 5 speed; was a great truck. Local dodge dealer kept jerking me around so i went to a Mitsubishi dealer and found the same one on there lot
If they do bring it over please make it competitively priced. I'm not expecting Ford Maverick prices, but by the time I put some comfort features onto any midsize truck the price is reaching full-size prices. Been looking at the Ranger but with the new Maverick, it is near impossible to justify the Ranger.
Crazy that Ford introduced the Maverick shortly after the Ranger. I agree, why would anyone but a Ranger when the Maverick is a better buy and gives you much of what you need in a pickup? Once you outfit a Ranger, the price gets closer to a full size truck. Huge mistake by Ford.
@@alraguc Not really there is still a market for the Ranger for people that need an actual truck and not a compact grocery getter with a pickup box.. The Ranger has more capacity higher towing ratings and is way more capable than the Maverick and gets better fuel mileage than an F150. Once you fully load a Ranger it is still way way cheaper than a full load F-150 Lariat. Which would be the F-150 equivalent to a full load Ranger. And once the Ranger is redesigned it will have more useful features for the North American market. Remember the current Ranger is basically an 11 year old platform sporting 7 year old sheet metal with a 7 year old interior that was not designed for the NA market.
Hello TFL guys, I'm a huge fan from Mexico... This truck is sold in AMERICA but not in USA. Actually it's closer to USA since it's sold in south America and in Mexico, We get it from a basic 2.4 gas engine with manual transmission all the way up to the 2.4 diesel with automatic transmission and proper 4X4 with transfer case and rear dif lock, the top model costs around $33,000USD here in Mexico, and it's a direct rival or the Toyota Hilux, Nissan NP300 frontier(different model as the one in USA) and the ford Ranger (Also a different model from the one sold in US)
Hello Andrey and Roman! I work for a Mitsubishi dealer here in the USA selling new Mitsubishis, and I will say this: we'd be ecstatic if Mitsubishi were to sell the Triton in the USA. A Mitsubishi truck in the USA is the #1 request of Mitsubishi dealers. There have been rumblings for years about bringing it here. People in high places at Mitsubishi corporate have eluded to bringing a truck here (a few years ago), but didn't want to rush it. I do know this (from my own speculation), that is 100% a Mitsubishi Triton under that camo. I do also believe Mitsubishi is planning on doing a PHEV in their next gen. Triton. Have you seen the spy photos of the one (presumably) cold weather testing in Sweden? Notice in these photos, the wheelbase is a little longer than the wheel wells? What could this mean? I do believe this signals Mitsubishi bringing a Triton here. As far as I know, they hadn't have ever had this generation Triton on American soil. Why would they bring it here, just for testing? That wouldn't make sense. Mitsubishi_team has also posted photos of the Triton spy photos in America, and I believe that's a somewhat official Instagram account. Anyhow, this is a great pickup, and would immediately compete with the likes of Tacoma and Ranger, and combined with the new Outlander, would really help bring Mitsubishi in America back into the forefront of people's thoughts when they go shopping for a new vehicle. As far as engine, it's very hard to say what will be powering it. I know they're thinking PHEV... Which is usually paired to the 2.4 4 cyl., but who knows. Maybe a new engine entirely? I would personally love to see Nissans 3.5 V6 in it, with maybe another option being PHEV... Speaking of which... Maybe they're using Nissan frame on a Mitsubishi body and maybe that's why it's a slightly longer wheelbase? Entirely speculating there though. I know the chicken tax may be a challenge, so maybe they'll produce it locally? Anyway, hope it happens!!
I would love to see this start a war of new manufactures entering the US market with vehicles like: VW Amarok Izusu D-Max Mazda BT50 Toyota Hilux (screw the taco gimmie a HILUX!) Would also love some diesel variants too but thats wishful thinking And hooray for the Ranger Raptor!!!!
From what I read, the next Tacoma will be based on the Hilux. There will likely still be styling differences though. Makes sense for manufacturers to have common platforms across the globe , which will save costs.
The L200/Triton is also sold in LHD markets, so it still could be testing for the global market. That said, there is a clear and significant market potential for Mitsubishi to introduce a small to mid-size BOF truck. With mid-size trucks getting more expensive, a good value option would be welcomed. Nissan used to fill that value segment with the Frontier, but the new model has really jumped in price. If Mitsubishi could undercut the others by coming in under $25,000, and with good marketing and off-road halo versions, they really could have success here. Also, I've read somewhere that Mitsu is planning a PHEV version of the L200. That would really shake things up. All around, I see a lot potential for them. Mitsubishi should really consider it, if they aren't already.
They will likely use the Frontier platform like their other models using Nissan platforms. All I can think about is how amazing of a deal this will be if it's priced like their Outlander.
They don’t use Nissan platforms, they still develop their own platforms for most of their Vehicles. The Triton/L200 is their own developed platform and it’s an amazing one. It out performs most other utes offroad, and has the Super Select 2 4WD system which allows for on demand AWD
1982 in the SF bay area I worked for a multiline Motorcycle dealership and they had two D200 1/2 ton Pick Mitsubishi pickups that were auto and 4 cyclinder engines. neat little trucks I used to run down the I-5 at the speed limit to pick up Sweedish M/C in the grape vine area and return about a 650 trip on one tank of fuel.
The L200 is sold in Mexico with a nice Diesel engine, manual or auto transmission and a rear diff locker. It’s actually a very capable medium size truck. It can actually be a very nice alternative for Tacomas or Rangers, specially with some light mods like a mild lift and 33” tires. BTW, the diesel variant gives around 30 mpg and tows around 8000 pounds
Will be interesting to see what engine you get We use to have a 3,2 diesel but now it’s a 2.4 diesel not sure that will cut it in America We use to have it with a 3lt v6 as well We call it a duel cab Ute in Australia 👍👍
Hey guys this truck is built in the Philippines and Indonesia, in the Philippines is left hand drive and in Indonesia is right hand drive. L200is been the name also sold as a Mazda
Hey Guys! I am from Austria, Europe and we also can buy the L200 here - as a left-hand-drive car. So a version for the USA would already exist. Its a great car. My Grandfather owned some generations for his sheep-farm and it did a great job. Greetings.
I work for a Mitsubishi dealership. When the corporate folks come by, they always have Florida Manufacture Plates even though their headquarters are in Tennessee.
The top thing any auto maker needs to come to the USA is EPA certification. So look for such disguised vehicles around the EPA sites in Ann Arbor Michigan (Plymouth Road). If they are there for testing it is a good bet they are preparing to come.
Yes they are working with Chrysler/Dodge on this truck for years now. If u look closely in the pic of the truck in Florida the wheels were from the Dodge Dakota style wheel. They have been wanting to make a replacement for the Dakota but they were unsure and were also looking into making a smaller truck that was made by Mini Cooper to sell to the people who wanted a small car but with a bed. Hopefully they have scraped the small car like truck and went with this Dakota replacement truck. Mazda, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and other companies have all been working on small and midsize trucks for many years. There has been a Mazda midsize truck overseas selling very well for years now. The market for small to midsize trucks is big and the demand is great. I am very anxious for this to hopefully finally be happening now here in America.
I think this pickup looks great better than many out now this would sell pretty good it looks like the Outlander and the Outlander is selling really well.
Every time I watch the evening news and see a car bomb blast center, it reminds me that Mitsubishi still makes trucks in other countries. Should use that and the fact that they made the Japanese Zero in a commercial. If they bothered advertising.
I hope so, because my 2006 Mitsubishi Raider DuroCross V8 EC would like to finally have a companion on my driveway. It's been waiting for a very long time...
@@kenoday7562 Oh, noes! I'm quite familiar with a vehicle I've owned for fifteen years. Every piece of sheet metal, aside from the roof and back-of-cab panel is unique. Mine has a 9.25 rear axle, which I haven't seen in a Dakota, but I haven't looked under every one I've encountered. Some interior materials are better, and I've never seen a Dakota with a couple of options my Raider has. I cross-shopped both the Raider and the Dakota, and chose the better vehicle. So?
I used to love Mitsubishi, my first brand new car at 18yo was a Mitsubishi Mirage in 1997 , in 2000 I got a Eclipse GT fully loaded, my dream car from childhood was a 3000gt vr4 that I’ve also owned and still lust over one when I see it for sale, all together I’ve owned 7 Mitsubishi cars including a Brazilian market Montero diesel ( pajero) and the new outlander in my opinion is one of the most beautiful crossovers in the market today, but every dealer I’ve ever dealt with it was a horrible experience not to mention hard to find parts and that, especially the horrible dealer network made me swear I’d never buy another one.
Present and sold in central and South America since 30+ years ago. Excellent truck, diesel powered and extremely efficient. Had a 2014 model year, auto, simple and work truck. Competes to Nissan NP300 (Frontier) and Toyota Hilux.
Is also sold in north America but just Mexico, it would be amazing to create a North American spec, just like most vehicles sold in Mexico, the US and Canada
just putting it out there that dodge/Chrysler/ram have been using badge engineered Mitsubishi's since at least the end of the 70's (Mighty Max and Dodge 50). It seems logical that they would bring an already RHD/LHD platform to the states.
The truck market is booming in Mexico, full size, mini truck, mid size, etc. And L200 is a top seller, but the NP300 is the actual king, it's the new family do it all vehicle
I have a Mitsubishi Outlander. Other than routine maintenance I have not put a cent into it. It now has 130,000 miles on it and it runs like the day I bought it. I would really like to see the Mitsubishi truck.
l own this model truck or ute as we call it here in Australia, they are very good reliable vehicles and have been in the top 3 selling trucks here for some years.
the outlander seems to be doing well here in the states a truck in the lineup would be great I am looking for a truck if it can compete with that maverick I just might get the l200
i would buy one in an instant. the mitsubishi l200 has SUPER-SELECT which means 2wd,Awd,4wd and 4lo. No other vehicle on the market offers that and i really want it.
In South Africa and Australia it is called the Triton. The new generation Triton is due in about 2 years. If you compare the chassis length and width with the current model and that prototype, the prototype vehicle is bigger. My guess is that they are testing the chassis for the new model wich will probably be sold in America as well
It's just a mule, if you look closely the wheelbase doesn't even match up to the body, they are testing a new chassis and powerplant combo for the next generation L200/Triton/Strada and its SUV counterpart the Montero/Pajero Sport. On the powerplant side there's no way they are putting a Nissan powerplant in that, since Mitsubishi leads nissan on sales across the globe in midsize pickups and SUVs. Nissan models in Japan that uses diesel are now fitted with the new 4N16 diesel from Mitsubishi.
they need this in north america. with domestic trucks blowing up and just having terrible issues, they should grab market share. i cant wait to test drive one
Yeah I don’t live in the US and my dad just bought a 2022 Montero sport that is a suv based on the Mitsubishi l200 (or triton) I love that suv and it would be really cool if they sell it in the us
The Mitsubishi Triton, Strada, L200 is one of the most reliable pick up trucks sold in Asia. It's powered by a 2.4L Variable Geometry Turbo Inline 4 with 181HP and 317lb-ft. That right there is a Test Mule, they used the old Triton's body to hide the new components underneath and I think yeah, Mitsubishi probably is gonna sell it in U.S, there testing it there so what's the point when there not gonna sell it.
I would buy a L200 hands down! They are also sold in central and South América and the caribbean is a direct competitor to the toyota hilux better than the hilux and isuzu d-max and mazda bt-50 and nissan Navara in my opinion! My dad owns one in Cuba a 1997 L200 Triton model turbo diesel it has over 400k kilometers still running like a champion! If mitsubishi brings the L200 to USA i would buy it hand down! Bring back the montero(pajero) limited too!!
I am on the lookout for a small to midsize pickup that will last a long time. To me, the biggest drawback to today's truck models is that they are way too big for my requirements. Moreover, I never want to waste time nor gas trying to find a place to park. The trucks I see down here in Florida need two parking spaces to safely fit. As for my choice of brand name, I really do not care as long as the truck lasts because I am not a person who needs to update my truck every couple of years. I want want more bang for my buck.
Ive been waiting for this truck to come to north america. With the popularity of midsize trucks again i think its a no brainer but most importantly put the newly coming hybrid setup from the outlander and they are the first midsize with a hybrid option, Easy money . Id sign up for preorder.
Here in Oz they're called the Triton, and they're deisel only. I think the UK versions have to use adblue so they may be down on power compared with the Oz versions due to emiissions regs.
