brodgi looks back at the modern Paper Mario games to see if they are really as bad as people think they are. #papermario #papermariothethousandyeardoor #papermariotheorigamiking
0:42 It's funny because as soon as you said "why people like the original 2 games" I said to myself "3. the original 3" and then you classified SPM separately and didn't talk about it. To me, the classic PM games are a trilogy, and the main thing I miss in the modern games is the way they handled the story and characters, something SPM had fully intact. I'll always consider SPM to be part of the classic games, even if it has different gameplay, because of its heart remaining reminiscent of the previous games. I kinda want to make my own video about this tbh, because I see a LOT of Paper Mario videos separate SPM this way and often just skip over it in their "modern vs classic" discussions which I don't think is fair.
No. Sticker star sucks for making the world papercraft. It makes the world look and feel fake. It does NOT belong in ttyd and they shouldn’t have done it. The og games look far more lifelike for not being cardboard.
Arlo has said it best many times. they aren't BAD games taken for what they are, but they really don't have much in common with the first games. and that's what we want.
Sticker Star sucks. Everything else is fine. I can't really say anything redeeming about Sticker Star other than the music was really good and it looked visually good for a 3DS game.
Also paper jokes and meme humor ruin the writing in these new games. Same for the paint/origami mechanics because it makes the characters less lifelike.
Having the characters be crumpled/folded is the worst immersion breaker. Same for painting characters/filling the world with origami. Makes it all feel fake. No idea in these new games were good because they all run counter to the point of the original games because it leans too hard into paper.
this channel is great and super underrated, captioning this video must have taken a lot of effort also its not weird for you to like color splash and hate sticker star (i do that too) since color splash is basically sticker star done right. i didnt even think the "sticker star formula" had potential until i played color splash and enjoyed it a lot (there was still some stuff that took too much inspiration from sticker star that i hated such as the combat which was so bad at one point that i took a break to play through the entirety of origami king so i could cleanse my palette)
super paper mario exists in the same realm as Devil May Cry (2013). The game would be considered good by a smaller cult fan base if there was no association with a preexisting series and expectations.
