I admit it, women are soooooo much better at multitasking than we men are. Lookit, she’s driving a combine, giving a tour of the physical farming grounds, buildings, equipment, and fields, and giving a lecture of sorts about farming itself, all the while looking composed and pretty. I grew up in the Midwest in a farming community. My family were not farmers but I did work for neighboring farmers doing hay, plowing, harvest and working livestock. I now live in the city and miss the rural farming communities. It's very refreshing to see that America still has proper young ladies as yourself. You are a ray of sunshine, and your parents must be so very proud of you.

I can’t imagine what it’s like being able to work the same land my great grandfather worked. My moms family where farmers in MO. until they moved to Nebraska where my cousins are still farming today.🥰

It's very important to stay hydrated. It's hard to think about having your at least two liters of water a day, when you are fully concentrated on your job. I once had a renal insufficiency because of that. Three weeks in hospital, every day an infusion of 2 liters of liquidness. No fun at all. After harvest we have to take the wheat berries to get cleaned so we can plant some of them again for next year's harvest. I will show the seed cleaning process in another video too because it is pretty neat. Then we begin seeding or planting. After that there is cleaning all the equipment and getting things organized for spring seeding. Thank you so much for your super kind words and great questions!!!!

Although I’ve never been a farmer I’ve always been Intrigued by farming and even have an X-Box game of farming. I’d love an opportunity to run n some of the equipment one day. I think it would be an awesome experience.
Hi Kate thank you for this video always a very good weather at home it's true the harvesters are machines that work all the time in the dust and they have to watch the temperatures here in France there have been fires with harvesters of the Laverda brand which have recesses around the engine or the exhaust where straw accumulates and it is very dangerous in my town and the one next to us we have already lost two machines hello grandfather and take good care of you🙋♂️Dave

Kate, it is important that more people get connected to how their food is produced. I am 78 and will be teaching a class on farming in the 21st century this winter to a group of retirees. . So much has changed in my lifetime in terms of farming and technology. I am missing harvesting this fall for the first time since I retired due to Covid. I help harvest wild rice about 500 miles north of your location. Keep your passion for farming.
@@KatesAg My classs will probably be on zoom through our local college's Institute for Learning in Retirement. I am planning on 8 wks. one day a week for two hours a session. I will send you a picture of one of the rice harvesters in action.

25:31 to 25:34 is a good shot of that nasty Wild Oats you were speaking of earlier. I have been enjoying your videos. After I retired off The Rail Road Track Department with 35 years of service. I ran grain cart for my nephew until health issues with my thyroid prevented it. They have my medication regulated now I'm doing much better hope to get back to helping with Harvest again.
Your optics are great and you really work the camera just like we are actually there. Based on other videos I’ve seen, that is not easy to do. I can almost smell the wheat and dust! I also noticed you seem less comfortable up high on the grain bins. I am allergic to heights too!
Must be your Radiator was clogged.. I have to clean my radatior every day when spreadling lime in worked fiels or when spreading Chicken litter.. You seem very confident in the Combine. I guess learning to drive a Truck is actually harder.. With a Combine you can always slow down or stop if you have a problem.. How many acres are those fields.. I never saw a field that big in my life.. We simply don't have them. The biggest field I ever spread Grymsum on was 500 acres.. It's next to a river and no cross roads.. My Friend who moved to Woodworth ND was telling me how large the fields are by him but not so much it's rather Hilly there . and some areas have so many stones they just pasture cows.. I drove across MT on my way to OR to pick up a Truck I bought .. I slept in a cow pasture one ..night .. there are no fences.. just cattle garuds on the Highway on and off ramps.. Here in Michigan everything has to be fenced if you have livstalk .. When I woke up in the Morning some Cows had walked over to see what I was.. I used my flashlight before I put my sleeping bad down to be sure .. I was not laying on any Cow Pies..
Thank you for your great story!!! Cows are so curious!!! My 9610 combine had to be blown out all the time. It is very dry and dusty here. Our fields range in size a section is 640 acres and if you put them together they add up. Some fields are only 160 acres because in the old days they had smaller fields with the horses they used.
President at the time opened up this area in 1910 ish. Lots of homesteads at the same time. 1916 ish had a bad drought, 2/3rds of them packed up and many of the remaining started expanding. Both sets of my grandparents did homesteads at that time near this area. They met in 2nd grade in a combined school house.
We are seeing a lot of farm ground being purchased up for larger corporate operations. It is kind of sad that our neighbors are leaving. Thank you for your comment and encouragement.
Welcome to my channel. Thank you that’s an excellent question. In our area we commonly get a fly called Saw Fly. They cut through the wheat stem and lay eggs in it. When this happens the wheat no longer stands up anymore instead it lays down. This makes it really hard to strait cut the wheat because we would have to lay our combine headers on the ground and we would not be able to get all of the wheat. We try and swath the wheat before it falls down. When the wheat is swathed it is much easier to pick up with the combine because it is all together rather than laying down. Occasionally we are able to strait cut the wheat because we plant semi - solid stem wheat which is a variety of wheat with a stronger stem that doesn’t fall down as easy. I hope that explains why we are swathing first then picking up with the combine, instead of straight cutting some of these fields.
