I struggled with confidence from being bullied in elementary school. Because of this, I found myself in a lot of abusive relationships that eventually made it worse and made me question my existence. I lived in Japan for 2 years of my life when I was a teenager, and really took it to heart when I was called chubby. I started doing Work-out DVDs in my room. I went through so many of them and eventually found Zumba. Zumba is a latin style cardio dance workout. I did Zumba everyday and saw a positive change in my health. When Zumba started to come out in local gyms, I was hesitant to try a live class when I was so used to my DVDs. Well, I tried it and fell in love. I saw people smiling and having fun together while getting their sweat on. I wanted to be that person to help people get through tough times. Zumba is an hour where you can just escaped everything, be silly, meet new people, and it is such a positive environment. I have been teaching for every local gym in my city and I couldn't be happier. I thank all my participants for making my job fun.

when I was 17 and in my first few months of university i was blinded in my left eye by a glass bottle being thrown and it smashing in my face. since then I've had many operations and procedures done and obviously it totally changed my life. I'm 23 now, graduated from uni and earned my degree, working full time as a product designer. One of the worst things that happened to me taught me so much about myself and life. It let me know how strong and determined i was, and how we should never take anything for granted. for me the meaning of life is family and friends. the people closest to me helped me pick myself back up, protected me and showed me love at my most vulnerable time.

I really needed to hear this today. Right now I'm supposed to be in class, but I'm not. I'm in my bed grinding my teeth and hating myself. I hate college and I don't want to be here, but here I am nonetheless. I've been realizing lately that I need to chill the hell out. I'm not going to drop out of school but having a 4.0 is not the most important thing in my life. Stressing over making it to every single class is not the most important thing in my life. I'm having a lot of problems right now. I'm on several strong psychiatric medications; my life has spawned some hard situations recently. I have a lot going on and I've been channeling every bit of my stress and frustration etc etc into making sure I am perfect at school - but that's not meaningful to me. My grades are an empty sort of accomplishment to me. I've always done well in school but never felt like it Mattered with a capital M. I spend all my time either in class or stressed about class (bottling up all my problems and focusing instead on school), and I don't want to be like this anymore. It's frustrating and tiring. It gets me nowhere. This vid is exactly what I needed today.

+Afueras I'm at the point where I hate college too. Everyone expects you to know what to do with your life and if you don't then suddenly you're this big disappointment. I've been struggling too. My problem is kind of the opposite of yours. I'm doing horrible in my classes. I'm not focusing, I'm not putting forth my best effort. I think it's because I'm lost and have no idea what to do with my life. Of course, I have a general idea, but how can I possibly be sure that my choice is the right one? I'm trying to get things back on track right now. Key word: TRYING. Sigh. But, Taylor's advice is helping me also. Nothing comes easy. If I want something, if I need something in order to find myself, then I must endure life's challenges. I need to stop being so scared and unwilling to work hard. That's the only way to have a meaningful life. Some advice to you though, maybe you should take a break. Maybe a semester off? Go live a little and try not to think too much. I over think things too, so maybe you should do less thinking and just go with the flow -- however difficult it is. Don't spend too much time thinking whether something is right or worth it. Go with your instincts and you'll go where you need to go. Everything happens for a reason. Good luck!

I just wanted to let you know that I understand. That A is not worth tears, that A is not worth stress. Never has been, never will be. It frustrates me when people think it has value or it is the only thing that is valued. I am one hundred million bajillion percent certain that being kind, taking care of yourself, and all of the thing I am a bajillion percent certain you are good at or are like are more important. It is a grade, it is a piece of paper. It does not define you, it does not define your kindness, does not define your struggle, does not define how hard you work or what kind of person you are. So so sos sos sosoosososooossooosoososo glad you are seeing this, I struggled with the same and completely shut it off and now my sister is going through it. It hurts to see anyone put their worth or any worth into one letter.
@AlinaMcleod
@AlinaMcleod 7 лет назад
Definitely go with the flow in the direction of what it is you want. Life rarely goes from point A to point B the way we want or expect, but there is a reason for it, possibly an even better route to getting what you want in the first place because it will teach you to appreciate it more and teach you a whole bunch of other lessons on the way as well. Hang in there xo

In a way, you helped me find the meaning in my life again by helping me cope enough to work on myself. I have a chronic medical issue that may end my life early, and I struggle with anxiety and depression, largely stemming from this. I never talked to anyone about how I felt because I felt that it wasn't their business. But because of this, I never got to find closure. When I found your channel, I wasn't in a good place. I contemplated my death endlessly, and it made me feel like life wasn't worth living. Why bother working for an end-goal I may never see? But I binge watched your videos by chance one day and then couldn't stop. Weeks of viewing went by, and slowly, your videos began to influence me. Hearing you spread positivity really changed me. You encouraged your viewers to do things for themselves, to work hard for what they want, and to focus inwardly as their priority. Be kind, be passionate, and be you. That's what I feel that you tell us constantly, and that's what I kept hearing. I took the plunge and left a job where I was surrounded by death and misery, and broke into a field I never thought I was good enough to join. And it turns out, I'm freakin' great at it. I worked on myself because of your influence. I see the potential for greatness that I have now, because of you. I was my worst enemy, but I had you telling me daily that there's definitely something to live for. Because of you, I've worked on my education, my health, and my career. I'm in a better place now than I've ever been. So thank you. Just thanks for being yourself and sharing that. And I love Yayoi Kusama. She was a big influence on me through my high school years ('02-'06), and it's good to know she's still influencing.

For me, working with children has helped to make my life meaningful. I went through a period of depression for about two years, and working at a preschool really helped to bring me out of it. At that time, I was so deeply sad and troubled, but I was so careful not to show my family that I essentially stopped showing much emotion, positive or negative. Kids are so honest with their emotions. They can't hide it well when they're tired or sad or frustrated or happy, and I found that to be so inspiring and liberating, in a way. Now, my favorite compliment to receive is that I'm easy to understand or that my emotions show clearly on my face. I like being honest like that. The act of taking care of others also helped me a lot. Kids need you. They depend on you. And when you can do something good for them or help them to do something for the very first time, that's an incredible feeling. So that's what helps me to live a meaningful life. Kids are my life.

I've read somewhere about goals in life; it says that when we're young, we all have big ambitions and want to save/change the world. And when you get older, you'll realise that sometimes it's okay to just make a difference in one person's life, and it will mean the world to them. And it's okay if that one person is you. I have manic depression (also known as bipolar disorder) and depersonalisation, and i have high energy levels and low energy levels. At times I feel like the most hopeful and optimistic person in the world, and at times I feel like I really can't go on anymore. And most of the time, due to depersonalisation, it's like I'm experiencing all this through a screen, and I'm floating around helplessly. One of my goals is to embrace every emotion I can feel (it's hard for me) as mindfully and gently as possible, and translate them into art people can relate to. I wish to move people like me and make them feel deeply again. And I wish to immortalise my "high energy" moments with all the positive feelings, so I can remind myself that things do truly get better, whenever I reach my "low energy" cycles. So far art has helped me deal with one of my more serious relapses, and I can't wait to be good enough one day to share these stories with the world, like how Kusama's sharing the artefacts from her journey. ☺️💞

Taylor you are honestly the sweetest and most down to earth person. I struggle with an anxiety disorder, but my job managing a daycare and teaching dance classes are the highlights of my life. (also finding people like you on youtube that help me unwind at the end of a long day). lots of my friends have moved away, but they help me whenever I ask. I have an amazing support system and things like these make my life meaningful. It's good to be reminded because I often doubt myself.

I knew that artist because of a video that was all around that Facebook a while ago. Its pretty shocking that she even checked herself into a mental health hospital... I find it really sad how a talented person can be so empty inside! I think each of her artwork is about her anxieties and even fears... That´s what they transmit to me and even the photos of her... Thank you for taking us Taylor! Its way cool that we can even have a glimpse of the exhibition even if we don't live in Japan!

i only knew kusamas art, but never the reasons...your video just hit me in the heart. when i was 10 i was tourned away from my home, in a new country, new language, i couldnt say goodbye to my family and friends. it took me so long time to recover, i wanted to kill myself somany times. then i found japan, and the worlds it created, movies, games, in anime, manga. all i had was these worlds. all i had was my art. and i was not good at it. but i wanted to be one of them, i wanted to create worlds that inspiers others like it inspired me and kept me alive. every step i went, i went for that. it was hard, so hard, always the hardest way. i moved to japan, and went the hardest way, the impossible way, worked and worked and worked, always knowing its "impossible". last week i applyed at square enix, knowing its "impssobile" this week i got an interview as charachter artist for a final fantasy game in shinjuku. i dunno if i get the job. its "impossible".... but damn, these impossible things feel SO DAMN GOOD once they get sooooo cloooose! and nobody can take that away. just work for it, just fight for it! who cares if its impossible?

I think a important point of a meaningful life is to look back to the hard times and to realise that they were good for you. That they are part of the process of becoming who you are now. Like looking at mistakes and to be thankful for them because without them some really good thinks won't have happened. ❤

I lived a very full life, but then that life was stolen from me due to illness. Even though I'm chronically ill, I honestly believe my life is more meaningful now because it has allowed me time for people -time which normal well people don't necessarily have. It has also taught me to appreciate the little things - things which may go unnoticed in a busy life.

Thank you for sharing the work of Yayoi Kusama. I plan to do some reading on her work. I LOVE it! So happy, bright and cheerful. It always fascinates me the irony of how some of saddest people in the world (both artist and comedians), have the ability to bring so much joy to others yet can not find a way to bring joy to their own lives. So heartbreaking. I wish I could help them all.

I totally feel you! I feel like people around me are always pressuring me to be "successful" just because I went to top schools. I was diagnosed with a syndrome a couple years ago, but I was too busy or stupid to really do something about it. After my last doctor check up, I decided to take things slow. And that's what I'm doing now, just breath life in, exercise more and keep myself healthy. Some people who know me but don't know my struggle just assume that I'm being lazy staying at home and not doing anything. Luckily like you and elbow san, I have my husband supporting me and giving the courage to keep doing what I want. So, keep the vlogs coming Taylor!!

Taylor!! I love how art ignites that feeling with you I and I can relate. Being a performer I have to often remind myself that I should always see myself in the midst of preparation of a great mission, like an astronaut training to go up to space. Each tool I learn will get me a little closer to that mission so no need to prove anything or be perfect. Just work towards the mission!! I tend to be less hard on myself this way, while giving my life a great load of meaning. Thanks for the video 💕

I really really appreciate that you said there's only so much other people can do for us. For the most part, I also believe we have to be responsible for our own satisfaction in life. We can't rely on other people to find or create that for us. I think a meaningful life isn't necessarily one that is always joyful. Rather, it's one you are proud of and one that contributes to more than just yourself.

Wow. This was something my mum advises me too but to hear it from someone completely different and someone who doesnt know me strikes something in me. Makes me really think about it and that someone else gets me too or understands. And also, Ive watched a few of your vlogs before and honestly, you didnt strike me as someone who was this thoughtful and had such deep thoughts about life. A lot of the words you utter I truly relate to and you seem so mature and genuinely kind and happy! Ive been feeling not myself these past few years, I feel as though Ive veered off from the direction I wanted to take and ket myself go with the flow. I understand that there's only so much other people could help you with but hearing that from you was enough to really let that sink in. Ive been told this over and over but it just seem to pass over my head. Sometimes things just feel very difficult and I wonder, how do you help yourself? Thanks for this

It's always interesting to me when RU-vidrs have daily videos that end up being super relevant to my life. I'm taking a class at church right now, and yesterday we started out by talking about something that has recently been meaningful to us. For me it was that after traveling, being sick, and working through an injury, I was still able to go for a run yesterday and my average mile time was barely affected. I had been really depressed the last month not being able to run because I thought any training and progress I had made this year would be totally lost. When in reality my body is stronger than I give it credit for, and everything seems like it's going to work out. I think a big part of me being successful in finding meaning in my life is to have better confidence and self love. That way I don't have to spend time worrying if I'm going to fail at everything, I just have the confidence to go out and reach past my goals and into my dreams to make them reality.

When i was 14, I had a really bad depression: i couldn't trust people or just couldn't express myself but i could draw to express myself. The thing is that at that time my family, a really religious one, was so strict with me and my siblings i would always see my big sister, who was the first one to rebel against my parents, suffer all the time, but i was young and didn't really know what to do and what was wrong or not. I remember i had to hide to draw mangas because my dad would come and throw them because it's against the religion as he says. I think it really traumatized me from religion. When i was 15, so many stuff happened my big sis even called that time "The dark time" because she was in her last year of high school and wanted to be more free but she couldn't do anything she wanted and she also suffered from depression. One day she couldn't bear it anymore and called a number for children who are maltreated and it really helped so muc. I 'm sure if she didn't do that, all of the horrible stuff my parents did would not have stopped today. She called them and it made my parents calm down. But in fact it was all my father's fault really ,only last year so much happened because of him it was horrible. I was able to help my sister to gain more freedom because i had art to express myself. At that time i would also listen to vocaloids and discovered so many artists. Their songs helped me to realize my problems and i could deal with them i'm so happy i got into these musics. Also i began twitter and i think it's what taught me the most, i could interact with people around the world and have a new look on myself. This year i'm in my second year of high school i was so scared of not being able to make friends because last year i was all alone, but this year i'm so lucky to have these classmates i was kinda distant because i thought they would treat me like everyone treated me my whole life but they were so kind it surprised me so much i wanted to cry. I'm also so glad i discovered your channel Taylor, watching your videos makes me so happy and makes me want to move forward, to do what i really want. Really thank you for doing RU-vid videos i'm so happy to be the person i am now even if i still have a long way to my goal.

Just came home from the Infinity Mirrors exhibition here in Seattle (luckily got tickets since it was the last day and has been super popular). I watched this video back when it was posted and it piqued my interest in Yayoi Kusama and her unique art. I really appreciate how you reflected on the exhibition and opened up about your own life/thoughts and extended that dialogue to your viewers. Anyways just wanted to say thank you and sending good vibes your way girl!

Thanks for this little pep talk today Taylor, I was actually thinking along these same lines recently! I'm going to try to motivate myself to do something meaningful each day (or at least 6 days out of the week 😛) so that I can start making progress on the things that are important to me or the things I have been pushing off. Love you Taylor, as always looking forward to your next video! 💕

I really needed this right now. I'm at a stage in my life where I don't really know what I'm doing with my life and I was struggling to find some purpose. But after seeing this video, It's really made me realize that all this struggling and hardship is better for me in the long run. Not only can I enjoy the more fun parts in my life, but I can grow and learn from the downfalls.

Oh boy. My mental illness has been an on going battle. When i was first diagnosed with major depression and anxiety four years ago i was baker acted and then again the next month. That was my rock bottom. Since then ive dealt with abuse from an untreated bipolar parent, ive been cheated on and used by my boyfriend of two years while still dealing with my mental illness and its still not as bad as being put into a mental hospital twice. Sometimes life can suck lol but i know it cant be as bad as being so close to death and being forced into a mental hospital. I always look at that situation and know that because i went through that, i can get through anything. I am so proud of myself because I'm still moving forward regardless of my past. So to anyone who is reading this that suffers from any mental illness or disability, i just want you to know that you are amazing and don't ever let your disability/disorder hold you back, you can do anything. ⭐️

Been binging on your videos for 3 days now, watching the half of it I guess.. I suffer with depression and anxiety (taking medication and seeing a therapist). Want to just say thank you for your content.. don't know why but it brings me so much comfort and joy! Now I can't say my life is meaningful but I wish I will find some meaning to it someday.. Thanks again for the videos and good luck with the channel!

Aha, I don't know what will make my life meaningful in that sense, things I'm passionate only comes in a good mood- "excited, energic, ambitious," but they become full of hopelessness once I get "depress, " and the cycle continues! If it weren't for these mood swings, I would put everything into achieving my passions instead of only some of it.

taytay im glad you make your videos because when I come home stressed and ready to unwind I get on my pjs and watch yours and sharlas channel. It is just nice to get lost in your guys lil world for a few minutes and chill. As for your question at the end of the vid, meditating and yoga have really helped me with my depression and accepting things as well as Buddhism. Ive had a lot of traumatic things happen in my life in a short period of time and it reall messed with me but applying Buddhist beliefs to my mindset has really turned my life around. Im still struggling but I feel like without it I wouldnt be here. I guess you can say it is to me what art is for Yayoi Kusama.

You know when I first got into your channel (in December) I never had the slightest bit of thinking that you would inspire me so much. I thank you for that! As an introvert, I struggles lots with expressing myself and would always be afraid that I would get judged if I get super hyper (which I am at times). But you seriously don't get faded with mean comments. I thank you for being a part of my life 😘❤️💛

This was such a great video! I especially loved what you talked about in the end. I actually had a somewhat similar situation to you where I was modeling in Tokyo and was actually there just a couple months ago (saw that advertising of Kasuma-san's exhibit and really wanted to go!), but I've decided that there's other more important things that I want to pursue. Modeling is amazing and can be an incredible creative outlet, but it really does lose some luster when it's jobs or companies that you don't much care for and that they don't really include you in the creative process. I do RU-vid now too and it has totally changed my life in so many amazing ways, as well as working on an acting career. It's so amazing to be a creator and work on what you love. You're a great inspiration. Keep up the awesome work!

Listening to you talk about having a meaningful life especially what you said about how all the hard times are also included in that because we learn from them, it really helped me. Recently i have been going through a rough time and i just think 'oh why is this happening to me i never did anything wrong to anyone'. But when you said that, it make me realise that life isnt just about being happy or the happy times, the difficult times are equally meaningful cause they help shape us as people. Ive always thought the meaning of life was to be happy but that isnt always possible so now i think the meaning of life is to live. To actually be alive and experience all these things, the good and the bad. (btw sorry for my english hope it is still understandable)

I think after all being happy is so hard, sometimes everything goes wrong, people are mean and you seem to have no luck for while, I think thats why today I apreciate anything that makes me happy, literally, a friend, my cat, my hobbies, and always ALWAYS keep on dreaming, having goals, despite what others think, enjoy life and apreciate the little moments.

A meaningful life for me... Doing the things you enjoy, working hard to show yourself you can, not just for other people and looking after yourself and others in the process. Art is so important to me and it's been really hard to break away from the stigma that it's not important, that my art isn't important or worth my time. To just keep doing what I enjoy when there are so many other 'important' things... heavy stuff. Nice work Tay on encouraging this ^.^

I was rewatching this vlog today, cause I really felt like it, after having seen Kusama-san's exhibition here in Seattle just a couple months ago. She's been one of my favorite artists since I was a child, and this was the very first time that I was able to see any of her work in person. I fell a part crying in the rooms(especially the pumpkins). I suffer from severe depression, anxiety, and multiple forms of PTSD(majority of it being rape trauma), and I have always felt her work on a very spiritual, personal level. I'm really grateful that I saw her work, and I happy for you that you got to see it! Anyway, just wanted to input that, after having seen her work, myself. ^.^
