Is N-EXT D-Thatch The Best? Does It Work Better Than All The Alternatives?

I tested three different liquid thatch removal products this summer hoping to find the product I thought was best. I applied three different applications of each product to three different areas of my lawn over the course of 63 days and although I still have thatch in my lawn it is clear that all the products were working as intended. One of them however seemed to provide more value than the others and I will continue to apply it as I work to eliminate my thatch problem over time.
If you want to price out D-Thatch it is here (aff link):

Smaller 1-gallon jugs can only be purchased in the "build-a-box" option otherwise it's either a 2.5 gallon or 5-gallon jug only.
Over on Amazon the other two products can be found here in 1-gallon jugs:
► Nature's Biological Dethatcher - www.amazon.com/Natures-Lawn-B...
► Lawn Star's Lawn Dethatcher - www.amazon.com/LawnStar-Liqui...
Curious about how I pulled my plugs?
I used this plugger which I bought on Amazon earlier this year - I love it: www.amazon.com/ProPlugger-Gar...

Looks like you have a lot of compaction issues the way you’re jumping just to get the plugger in the ground. You should put down some soil amendments.

Would applying a compost accelerator help move things along also?

I’ll be honest that like most people I searched for the best and found that you can’t go by recommendations alone because one mans lawn may react differently then another man. I have settled on the next products simy because it cost a little more up front to go a lot farther in the long run. What it boils down to is one needs to be in tune with their yard and pay attention to changes in the yard for better or worse and adapt as you go.

I have a thatch problem similar to yours. Was 100% kbg sod laid down 4 yrs ago by previous owner. Want to get some prg overseeded but there's no way ill ever get seed soil contact and I'm worried mechanical dethatching will rip up entire lawn.

Yep, thats exactly my worry doing a mechanical dethatching too. Im planning on continuing with the liquid dethatching treatments as i think its a slow gradual solution but im going to try doing a slit slicing on mine too to try and break some cuts into the thatch layer without tearing up the grass roots and all. I think a heavy core airation could help a lot too but both of these techniques should help most in just getting water under the thatch during my deep watering sessions. With lots of thatch it takes a huge amount of water to penetrate it and get tk the soil underneath. Right now im leaning towards the Lawnstar liquid but the better price I think is Next Dthatch. Neither either is a quick solution unfortunately.

Dang man your lawn has a really thick thatch layer. Are you concerned that water, sunlight, nutrients, fertz, etc don’t really make it down into the soil? I’ve got about an inch of thatch in my backyard and I’m half tempted to kill off the entire thing and start new in the fall.

I suppose I'm just old school but ive always struggled to use a liquid dethatcher rather than a rake or powered tool. I can't wrap my head around paying for a product that is 88% water with some humic, molasses and yeast.

You certainly could put the ingredients together yourself but I like getting humic on there anyway and I'd rather not mix molasses myself, seems too messy...although you know I'll have to try it sometime to be properly educated on how to do it. The rakes and electric dethatchers work for surface debris and if you core aerate twice a year that goes a long way to keeping thatch controlled. So you are right, it is probably not neaseary for everyone, just for those that have the thickest problem areas that need repair.

Some fertilizer some yeast a fish pump with a bubble stone and molasses but for dethatching id just keep using a dethatcher like he said it made his lawn look better but the thatch didn’t look any less
