Northern NH resident here. One of my big safety risk factors is collisions with moose after dark. Not even a joke. People die that way. I've done serious damage to my car once and my daughter had it happen to her car. Plenty of close calls too.

Thanks for the comment - that is a real problem. NH doesn't rank in any of the lists for animal collisions, but it is a safety risk in rural areas!

I’ve worked in the addiction treatment field in NH for the last six years - before that I worked in Maine for a crisis provider - and you did a better job of explaining this system than most of the people involved in it day to day. Of note, because it has no stable tax base for treatment (beyond a modest war chest gathered from collecting taxes on liquor), NH’s SUD system is in constant upheaval. The Doorway system mentioned in this video, for example, is paid entirely out of Federal funding that’s scheduled to go away in the next couple of years.

That’s why governments levy taxes, because without them, they are relatively helpless. If we want things done, if we want good roads, schools and services, we have to pay for them, and a centralized system, e.g. the government, can do that more efficiently, and at lower cost than any other approach. That is the big advantage society has over tiny bands… clout, and the power of numbers. Some elements today seem to want to throw all that away (or, rather, throw that away for most of us, while retaining their own power). It’s the job of rational citizens to prevent that from happening.

Loved this! I think you should make a video for each state! What I don’t understand is when New England States “budget” for winter snow treatment and removal and the winter is mild why do they then spend the money and taxpayers have to foot the bill once again. Why not keep that money allocated for the following season.

People are great and will over you some help with any problems. Great hospitals and rehab functions if necessary . I have only been here for 50 years, but every year it gets better and better. CDC--A vaccine for Lyme disease is not currently available. The only vaccine previously marketed in the United States, LYMERix®, was discontinued by the manufacturer in 2002, citing insufficient consumer demand. Protection provided by this vaccine decreases over time. Axios--That could all change in the next couple of years. Earlier this month, Moderna announced two novel mRNA vaccine candidates against Lyme disease in its pipeline. Another vaccine candidate, VLA15, from Pfizer and its partner Valneva is already in late-stage clinical trials, and enrolling trial participants, including children as young as five. The companies hit a snag in February when they had to toss the results of about half of their clinical trial participants due to problems in how the study was run by a third-party operator. The companies nonetheless say they still could apply for Food and Drug Administration authorization as early as 2025.

1 weather: i have lived all over the country (Air Force Brat) and NH gets the tail end of hurricanes, nothing to brag about, the few tornados we get are small and short lived, Micro bursts are more likely in NH, then we have WINTER and the Dreaded Blizzard, Buffalo just got 77 inches that's 6.4 feet, i've never seen over 2 in NH since i have lived here. had an earthquake a few weeks ago when i spent the weekend at weirs beach, and i slept thru it lol. 2. Traffic New Hampshire in in New England, and drivers here are AGRESSIVE !! and can be dangerous, often running lights and stop signs, and speed limits forget it, i live in the seacoast area over by the Spaulding turnpike and north half is 65MPH and Southern half near the cities of Dover and Portsmouth are 55MPH good luck finding anyone under 75- 80mph, Also for people moving to New Hampshire there are a LOT of 2 lane roads NH tries to call highways, and ONE grandma in an old Buick can make a 1 hour drive from Rochester down 125 to Plaistow a 2 hour trip, and there is a long list of these 2 lane roads, which i think makes people more aggressive on the few REAL highways we have. 3 crime, we are safest because we have constitutional carry and our citizens are ARMED, and criminals have no clue who is armed and who isn't, same with next door Maine and Vermont, Massachusetts is the out of the normal but that state is seriously a POLICE STATE !! Nothing is legal in Massachusetts without an almost impossible to get permit, and some things not even a permit, just look at a Massachusetts State Trooper they look like NAZI stormtroopers, but you go to Rhode Island and Connecticut and the crime rate jumps strict gun laws taking self protection from the citizens. the drug problem is the lack of services in NH because of it's Tax Free Status ( No Sales or Income tax) and with that lack of funds it's social services that fall short in NH, but NH Residents are ok with that and do not want to change it. 4. BUGS lol NH has them ALL !!! black flies, mosquitos, sand fleas, knats , Tics like crazy, just to name a few, Not many poisonous insects or critters, bears and coyotes and Fisher cats are about the most dangerous animals and all would rather not deal with us, lastly the hospitals are far better then many places i have been but still NOT GREAT many are being bought up by huge corporations and they care more about their paperwork than they do about YOU !!

I have the same background. Father was stationed at Pease in the old days. Hiked most of the plus 3k mountains. You are, in my opinion, spot on regarding life in NH/New England. I now live in the Chicago area and tell people these items when they ask. Regarding the 2A, I tell them people are well armed and the lower class know this and stay in their lane. If they go out of their lane Law Enforcement comes down on them real hard. I also tell them about Black Fly and Mosquito season. In closing, to protect NH from Maine and Vermont, I recommend sealing the border and either poison the lobster or defoliate the maple trees. Enjoy.

Yes - if going for a walk in the woods wear light colored clothing and cover your lower half completely (socks over pants) and then spray with a bug repellent specifically for ticks. Then use a tape roller over your clothes to remove them if they are on you, plus you can see them on the lighter clothing. Always check yourself in the mirror and shower after. You can protect your yard in various ways as well.

I ALMOST bought a house in Manchester, it was brand new and it was beautiful, BUT overall I decided it wasn't in a safe enough area and with the increasing crime in that city, I ended up backing out. It cost me 5K to back out of it, which sucked, BUT I am so much happier feeling safer in my 1980's house in a very safe area. SAFETY, especially if you are a female and/or you have children, is of utmost importance in my opinion!! Wo Wo Wo Sweet Child of Mine.... Did you just have to say, "you had to educate your doctors?" That is scary. I'm moving from the UK to the USA.. I've seen the adverts ask your doctor about this drug (may cause addiction may cause death) on adverts but this cant be true???/ Doctors in the UK prescribe you the best medication for you, they aren't allowed to be contacted by the pharmaceutical industry.. Are Americans being sold out? Do your doctors get educated? do they go to collage? if so why are they selling the public out? that was so blasé it would be prison and struck off for a UK doctor. Please explain more?
@christinebutler7630
@christinebutler7630 Год назад
Our doctors are excellently educated and trained. They're exhaustively, and exhaustingly, educated and trained. But they have very, very little autonomy. If they want to start a treatment or a drug regimen, or schedule a surgery, they have to call the patient's insurance company for prior authorization. This takes a lot of time for a clerk with no medical education, just a business degree, to deny payment and suggest other (not necessarily effective, but cheaper) treatments the doctor must try first. The doc can resubmit the prior Auth request with reasons why the cheaper treatment has already been tried and failed, or is contraindicated in this case. Usually they can eventually get authorization for care but not always. For instance, in some highly aggressive cancers, for which treatment is expensive and long term recovery is uncertain at best, the insurers will stall and stall so the patient will just die without their having to pay for anything. Pharmaceutical companies donate heavily to many politicians and as a result they can do whatever they want, including market directly to consumers, which results in people stampeding to their doctors demanding a particular drug that they've seen advertised. The docs will often cave and write the prescription because they don't have time to argue with a Karen screaming discrimination if she doesn't get what she thinks she wants. If the patient pays out of pocket for it, it's just easier for the doc. However if the patient wants insurance to.cover it, see above, that may or may not be happening. This is why certain meds like Adderall and Ozempic are in short supply- everyone wants them for problems they may or may not have.
