As a retired senior police investigator who has been to Nice many times, I find Nice and the Riviera to be extremely safe from violent crime. About normal for property crimes in a vacation resort destination. The coastal areas of Carre d'or, Vieux Nice, and Le Port, inland to Liberation and Ciminez districts being the best bet for tourist. Bad things can happen everywhere, particularly after midnight.

I felt very safe in Nice and throughout the Riviera. Like any large city, you always have to be aware of your surroundings and cautious around crowds. This has been hands down my favorite travel guide channel. You both do an outstanding job. I tried looking for guides to other cities in France during my travels but none measured up! Keep it up!!

Thank you so much! We'll try! (Sounds like we need to expand our circles... ;-) And yes, we absolutely agree: With some caution, nothing bad will happen when traveling down here.

I have lived in a guard gated golf village in Florida for 25 years and we have never had a single home broken in to. Many of our homeowners own a fire arm or rifle which is a great deterrent. There is nothing like the sound of a shot-gun pump to scare a burglar away. Nice looks safe from your videos so we will be traveling this September. Thanks for all your hard work on these videos.

Bonjour! Thank you for the informative video. We are retired American educators considering a permanent move to France, perhaps Nice, and renting an apt. Any advice is welcomed. Merci! Dean & Cindy

That's a great idea! We think you should probably check out different cities around here to find out which one suits you the best - it's hard to tell without knowing you what you would like best. Even Anja + I have different preferences sometimes... But with Nice you can't go wrong, really. Personally, I wouldn't pick it, because I have dogs. But if I hadn't it would be a perfect spot: not too big, not too small, well connected with public transportation, a nice cultural offer (not comparable to Paris, but still - and there's Cannes and Monaco not far away, for great international events), nice restaurants and bars... If you're looking for an English speaking community: in places like Valbonne, Mougins, Biot etc. in the hinterland you'll find many internationals.

You're great girls, I love your videos, I'm preparing for a trip, I'm gathering information about Nice, I am going to visit this beautiful city in March, I can't wait! can you make a video about wheelchair accessibility, it would be a big help for me! Thank you 😊
@rivierago
@rivierago 6 месяцев назад
Hey, that’s a valid request! To be honest, we’re not sure about the accessibility in general… We’d assume that it’s mostly ok, but we’d really have to look into it. We take note for a future video! 😊

The term "robbery" definitely sounds bad. Technically, a robbery is the taking of property from a person by force or a threat of force. Robbery is more serious because property is being taken directly from the person rather than from a residence without a person being present. What you are referencing is a "burglary" which is the entering of a residence and stealing something from the residence. In the US, there are different degrees of each of those crimes depending on the circumstances. Theft is the more generic term. Theft is the taking of property from another without permission. Anyway, you always have great content. I've had a second home in Nice off and on and consider it very safe.

I feel safe in Nice and I think as a tourist, you can really enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the city. The pickpockets in the tramway make the thing rather annoying. But often there are other people warning tourists of the pickpockets 👍🏼

I'm considering moving to Nice for a few months after I retire here in the United States. You stated home robberies are common in Nice (although not the violent type here in the United States). Do you have suggestions to avoid this type of situation, other than locking doors and windows? Do you know if this occurs often in Airbnbs? Thank you!
@rivierago
@rivierago 6 месяцев назад
No, never violent (not that we heard of, anyways), it usually happens during the day, when the place is empty, and takes all of 5 minutes or so - and it's more common in houses than apartment buildings (I think). Also, we might have accidentally made it sound worse than it is: Our places (in residential areas with locals, not tourists) have been robbed once each in over 20 years. So, yes: windows and doors should be securely locked, when you're not home. Many people have alarm systems and/or cameras installed. Nothing has ever happened to friends of ours who've stayed in Airbnbs when visiting. Not saying that it might not happen, but it's not a thing we've heard of. But the best advice is simply: don't bring anything of worth (jewelry in particular).

Found you via MonAmi! I had a guy who entered one of my old town apartments whilst I was in another, had ring camera so confronted him trust me he was more terrified than me… the local dope dealing youths are not an issue as they are mostly polite and respectful moving aside when you pass.. and had an Arab dressed woman lean into me on the escalator at etoile to try pick pocket me, just be as vigilant as you would in your home town and you’ll get by without any big problems

If I felt safe in Marseille, I’m sure I’d feel safe in Nice. However, staying out late at night, my French nephews wouldn’t recommend women going out alone, after midnight, when there are other people around, in Marseille. I was out after midnight, with my bodyguards (nephews and their friends).

@@rivierago I think the US is so dangerous, Americans can be a bit too paranoid. Definitely, check safety, but many of us are accustomed to worse safety conditions, at home.

Hi, the area around the train station in Nice is not the safest- but not terrible either. If you’re at least 2 people, don’t worry at all, just store your belongings (phone, wallet) safely. Really, Nice is generally very much a safe place. 😊

Hello guys! Thank you for the videos. I wanted to ask if the Sud Azur travel pass is currently available to purchase. I have looked online but cannot find any information and am stressing out as I will be travelling to Nice soon. Please could anyone help with the answer to this question 😢.

Hello, looking to travel to Nice, Cannes, or any town you recommend? First time w toddler but do like a luxury hotel on a beautiful private beach? Where to stay? Thanks
@rivierago
@rivierago 5 месяцев назад
In Cannes there are many luxury hotels with private (sandy) beaches along the promenade (Croisette): Carlton, Martinez, Mondrian (former Grand Hotel), Le Majestic… In Monaco, you find awesome places on the sea as well, like the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel, Monte Carlo Beach Hotel or Le Méridien. The city of Nice is bigger than these 2 places, and there are nice hotels on the promenade as well, but if you’re specifically looking for luxury, we’d suggest Cannes or Monaco

We've found Nice to be totally safe. Of course, you have to use common sense. We wear crossbody bags and are aware of our surroundings. It is much safer feeling than Paris and there are far fewer street hustlers/ and people begging for money are much less aggressive.

Couldn‘t agree more! Anja and I were out until 5 in the morning last Friday (you‘ll see all about it in an upcoming video 😉), and we felt completely safe while wandering through the old town together at all times.

Getting your phone stolen on the street. It’s not traumatic but having to accept you’re going to be robbed at home. It’s ridiculous to even think it’s a given that it is just terrible standards to live in a city where you have to accept you’re going to get robbed at home how is that security or safe, this is all because there is no proper sentencing for people who rob and invade peoples home and that is again terrible standards
@rivierago
@rivierago 5 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks for your comment. Maybe we sounded a little more dramatic than we should have about the robbery part: we’ve each been robbed once - but in over 20 years that we live on the French Riviera. Many friends have also (and so have friends or family back home in Germany). But it really doesn’t happen all the time. Media says it’s usually gangs from outside of France. They will break in when nobody is home and if the place is not secured (enough). For tourists, as far as we know, it’s not an issue. And: we’ve never been robbed in the streets, not in Nice and not in any other place down here. So there’s that 😅
