Noire is my favourite among several piano VSTs I own, including all the ones in Komplete 14. I thought I would like the particles engine a lot more than I do. My second favorite is Garritan CFX, recorded from the same piano model as Noire.
Hello! Thank you for this review, I just bought Noire, but i’m not using a DAW, i am opening Noire straight from Kontakt, but i’m not able to connect my MIDI piano, do you have any suggestions please??
Sorry you're having trouble. I'd check out this article, I think it's exactly what you're looking for: support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/210279745-Configuring-your-MIDI-Keyboard-Controller-in-KONTAKT
I got it on sale at half price. As a learning piano player this has really given me so much to play with and I can already lose myself in the sounds without even knowing any chords ;p
Be honest...you just wanted a new instrument to play during your pep talks 🤣 The plugin sounds great...will definitely be one to keep in mind. The felt piano would be great for LoFi music. By the way: Airy = high frequency Punch = mids Sub = lows I guess they felt the need to use esoteric engineering jargon than label it what it is
I will alway want a new instrument to play for pep talks. And yessss, the felt grand would be great for lofi. Just get something like Cassette or RC20 and it'll sound so lovely. And thanks for filling me in on what those terms mean. I guess what I was getting more at was the lack of more bands. I think 5 bands would have been a little more helpful in shaping the tone. But then again, I felt like NI wanted to keep the controls more on the simple side so it can remain more accessible for piano players. Just my guess though.
I don't play piano, don't have any kind of keyboard, but I love these kind of videos. I find it fascinating to hear what kind of sounds people get from plugins and seeing how they got them. Why don't mine ever sound as good?!! 😒😉😁 BTW, did you wear that polka dot shirt to match the Particles Engine? 😉😛
@@joolz666 ! Good to hear from you again. It really means a lot that you watched, even though pianos aren't really your thing. Hope it brought some inspiration. And I wish I could say that I coordinated that polka dot jacket with the Particles Engine. Not coordinated enough for that yet haha!
@@ThisIsOnesto I like pianos! It's just I can't play them. I'm thinking of adding keyboards to my music for atmosphere and texture...just need to get familiar with the whole MIDI thing. 🙂 It'll be a slow process, but all good. 👍
@@joolz666 oh that's great! There's definitely a learning curve but I would say that being able to do basic piano can be one of the most important skills. But you could also use midi packs for your chord progressions and melodies. Thanks for letting me know what you're up to
I am very interested in Noire since it has both the Pure and Felt (mostly for the felt). Don't really have any other piano VIs. What would you recommend for general piano that may have a felt or soft piano at the $150 or lower mark? Thanks.
Hey thanks for watching, here's some other pianos that I think you'd like. The first I'd recommend is Una Corda from Native Instruments. This piano has both a pure and felt option, it also has a Cotton version which is probably in between both pure and felt. Another great option is to pick up some Originals from Spitfire Audio. These libraries are only $29 USD and there's a few pianos in there. A soft felt piano, a couple of uprights, and there's another that is slipping my mind. I think I would recommend this the most based off what you described. If you want a gorgeous felt piano that's more than $150 then check out Olafur Arnalds Toolkit at Spitfire Audio. Hope this helps!
@4ytherium yeah they’re both great! I love Una Corda too!! However, I think Noire is better. Better enough, to say that’s the one I would choose over Una Corda.
Let's see, if you're looking for some good Felt Piano presets, then Noire is a good choice. Noire also has their other "Pure" Grand Piano, which is a good choice too. It offers a lot of presets that can give you that bright, compressed, pop piano sound, all the way to a more intimate and close piano sound. If you want to go creative with Piano, there's some good presets in here too, especially using the Particles Engine. So if those are things you're looking for, I think Noire is a solid choice. It's still a piano I frequently go to. It's certainly my favorite NI piano. If you have any more questions, or want more recommendations let me know. I'd love to answer them.
That's a great question, and I've made videos on both so here's my thoughts. Hammers+Waves Acoustic and Prepared (the felt piano in there) is sort of what Noire is, a pure and felt grand piano. In regards to features, both are comparable. They both have deep customization of sounds and effects, great presets, and they even both have some AI generated player (Noire's Particles, and H+W's Fractals). When it comes to sound quality, once again they are very comparable. My experience with the two is that they are so similar in quality and detail that it becomes a matter of personal taste. I would guess that technically Hammers+Waves is more accurately recorded and provides more detail with the way they recorded the samples (they used a robotic hand to record each velocity level). However with Noire, they recruited Nils Frahm to create a piano VST that suits his taste. Personally, I love Nils Frahm's piano compositions. So naturally, I prefer Noire's sound over Hammers+Waves. And if this helps, I like the UI/UX of Noire more too. It's a bit more streamlined and less menus to dig through. That's what I got so far. If you have any more questions let me know!
