For me, it’s mostly the fear of being allergic to a food. The only thing that helps is to eat with other people, but only people that I trust, then I feel like if something happens, they’ll at least care enough to call 911 or something.

Oh hell yeah I totally understand you. I also have the same fear especially with new food or new pills or vitamins. I bought a package of collagene pills and it's still standing on my table for a year bcs I cannot push myself to take one single pill. And I didn't take what was prescribed to me by my doctors bcs I just cannot

@@11lvr11I understand that. What I will usually do (eventually) is to break off a tiny piece and try that. It’s still difficult but it usually helps and eventually I can take more.

@@anxylum same haha, I also did that sometimes. Doesn't always work though but sometimes it did. Well, better than nothing, I guess😄

I think for me arfid comes in different forms, bcs I hate certain textures of food(jelly and buttery) plus this fear of allergic reaction. Do you also have problems with textures?

For me it's the fear of being poisoned or maggots in my food. It makes it hard sometimes to eat. Left overs are a trigger and so is having someone who I don't know super well or who I'm comfortable with cook me food.

Mine came from my mum being absolutely petrified any food was safe to eat. It was a constant thing as a child and I am again relapsing with my ED so this really helped me. Thank you ☹️

Thank you. You’ve listed literally everything I’ve ever felt… this restrictive eating makes me want to burst into tears. I can’t eat without thinking about it, in fact it’s so bad that I don’t even have to be eating to think about almost choking. I’ve been dealing with this for awhile and I can definitely say it is a slippery slope; seems like there is always something worse with OCD. One compulsion at a time and then they start to multiply 😔 I’ve lost weight very quickly but your pointers have helped a bit. One day at a time!

just being able to listen to this video my anxiety levels go down a little bit my OCD kicked back a little bit. I think I have fears of choking and sometimes my throat feels like it's closing.

hi van, i do too. i can't eat anything unless it turns into mush when i chew it and i have a hard time combining textures due to a fear of choking. my list of safe foods is limited to about 5 foods. when i get nervous my throat feels like it closes too :-/

I have a theme about eating salads, I just can eat the ones I make at home but I am not able to eat them out, because I am always afraid they do not clean the vegetables appropiately, and I Will get really sick. So I am not able to eat raw vegetables or fruits when I am not at home

Mine is that there will be something about the food that I am allergic to, or will have developed an allergy to, even though I don't have any diagnosed food allergies. I have to check ingredient lists and I have to have an epi pen on hand. I lost a lot of weight at one point and I thought I was going to die. I was down to 2 foods I would eat and I was feeling weak. For a while, I had to get Ativan to take before every meal just to get back on track and realize that I was NOT allergic to these foods. My anxiety was so high, I was not digesting them well. Therefore, I would get instant reflux on eating something which was bad enough to affect my breathing.

I have the same thing. I got down to about 4-5 foods and lost a lot of weight. I have often thought about taking Ativan before a meal to see if it helps. Did it help you a lot?
@lauraanders5318
@lauraanders5318 11 месяцев назад
@@anxylum Yes, it helped a LOT! But you have to be careful to have a long-term plan because Ativan can be addicting and it is quick to build a tolerance.
@anxylum

@@lauraanders5318 oh, I know. I’ve taken it as needed for almost 30 years now. I just haven’t tried it before a meal. I’m going to start some exposure therapy soon, I thought it might help sort of bridge the gap.

This is mee. Recently I’ve been struggling with skin issues so my OCD makes me avoid certain foods because I think they’re making my skin worse. This has not been good for my body, I’ve been to the hospital twice in the past two months and I need to make a change.

I would never be able to do this. My fear worsened after I was forced to eat foods I didn’t like in kindergarten. Now I’m severely traumatised and I honestly would rather starve myself than go through this again. I know starvation is bad, but it’s a way for me to be happy in life.

I don’t have a food themed OCD, but my ROCD or this absurd guilt feeling OCD thoughts are making me nervous to a point I can’t eat. For some reason a voice in my head starts to tell me I don’t deserve the meal while I’m eating and it makes me nauseous to continue. And I know how irrational it is, but it’s like I don’t have a power over how my body will react once I eat. Any help with this?

I'm sorry you're dealing with that. Based on her other videos, I think you would just acknowledge the thought you're having, call it out as the bully and then ignore it. Eat anyway, and overtime you will shrink the bully. "Oh, I'm hearing the bully again. They don't think I should eat. Be quiet bully." And then eat.

I have a friend who is diagnosed as OCD but she also seems to have some "on spectrum" symptoms. She has an extreme aversion to oil/butter. I get the impression that she "created" this aversion to loose weight initially. She avoids a lot of things because she thinks there is butter or oil. She is 60. She has Parkinson's. Fats are great for her nervous system. She sometimes has antisocial events because of it.

I am a Germaphobe who is currently in orthopedic rehabilitation center where they have bathtubs with thermal water and hydrotherapies but the bathtubes don’t get desinfected nor cleaned in the way that I would deem clean so I can’t use them it’s setting me back in my recovery I’m so devastated but they just wash it after each patient and fill it back up I’m just imagining all the dirt accumulating in the Hydrojets because when they asked me to enter this tub they didn’t even ask me to wash myself or desinfect my feet 😢 I do suffer from seeing food as contaminated aswell or expired. I feel so bad in this recovery because I can’t take the advantage of the thermal therapy but just thinking how dirty it is and they won’t allow me to clean it which was my first step in trying to break my fear :(

Hiw can you say your own name wrong? Its pronounced nat-ash-are, it cant be pronounced in ither ways because it is a name fhat pre exists newer English dialects, some words can be pronounced differentky but other words and language points are foxed. The same applies for silent letters, they are silent regardless of dialect or accent so words like vehicle with a silent H is pronounced without saying the H. So if someone pronounces it Ver-hic-all that is completely wrong. These things should be basic for anyone over the age of ten and fhere is even less excuse since the advent of the internet
