A little off topic, but: One of the funniest music books I know is “Lexicon of Musical Invective “ by Nicolas Slonimsky. It’s a collection of negative reviews of classical music. Anyway, Slonimsky had perfect pitch (as did his aunt Isabelle Vengerova), and his autobiography - which he himself allegedly wrote a scathing review of - is titled “Perfect Pitch”. And if that weren’t enough, check out Slonimsky Children Cry For Castoria and/or Cabbage Waltz on RU-vid.
It's a tool. I have perfect pitch and I learned it when I was 17. It's useful for learning by ear. It's fun to listen to what people are doing and start playing with them. As far as your ear training thing goes, it comes with practice even with having perfect pitch.
I don't know if I have perfect pitch but I can tell instantly if someone is out of tune. I can't read music is a startpoint so I could never tell you the note. Does that mean I don't have it? I don't think so, it must be how and what you hear. There must be people with perfect pitch that can't read music but can 'hear' music perfectly. I'd love to see you react to 'Roundabout' by 'Yes' (2003 or 2008 remaster). I just hope you haven't seen Rick Beato's breakdown of the song on his channel 😊
