I don't find resident evil scary, I never did. But as soon as I played resident evil 7, Literally everything changed. That game was so scary. I'm so excited for resident evil 4 remake, It looks great and terrifying. I think resident evil going with a body horror and more lore In depth would be so good, Resident evil needs to focus on survival horror again, But they should definitely focus on lore as well. Which I'm excited for because they said that they'd focus on character Interactions and lore, God I'm so excited. I genuinely have no problems with the trailer,
I only ever found RE1 and it's Remake to be scary. It could be because I was a kid when I first played them, but I still feel like those are the only games in the series that had a really creepy atmosphere (even though they are pretty cheesy by today's standards). The mansion setting, and the unsettling soundtrack really makes for an uneasy feeling throughout the game. The camera system was also really creative, sometimes capturing the perfect shot of a single zombie at the end of a corridor, creating a sense of "fight or flight" within the player. The sequels felt way more polished and cinematic, which in turn made for a better gameplay experience, but the horror took a hit. It became way more "sci-fi" than horror. RE7 made a pretty good attempt at bringing the atmosphere back, but it just missed the mark. It could also be because I'm an adult now, though. With that said, I don't exactly find any horror media to he scary anymore. I can identify a good horror experience, though, judging by atmosphere, sound design, tension, build-up, cinematography, and subtlety. The first Resident Evil (and especially it's remake) was more structured around puzzles and exploration than action. RE4 is probably the best in the series by a gameplay standpoint, but it almost completely lacks horror. I actually really like the idea of the Remake taking a darker, more atmospheric approach, while balancing the fast paced action of the source material. I'm actually really excited for this game.
I don't find Resident Evil scary. There was moments in the beginning (Res. 1) where I'd get surprised but not scared. After awhile it became predictable. What I liked about it was the fact that it was like a puzzle you had to complete while being attacked by dogs and zombies. I agree that they went away from that and it took something away from the game.
