The remake has more accurate spanish accents, but as a spanish myself it was hilarious how in the original they put hispanoamerican accents without a second thought.
it's the typical mistake you'd see in a cheap straight-to-tv b movie. not sure that was the intention, but since the og re4 was going for that campiness to begin with, it worked well in their favor.
@@bottomlefto Even if the intention was to have that campiness feeling, I assure you that you won't hear native spanish people talking like a hispanoamerican anywhere in Spain.
I agree they got the accents more accurate on the remake. I still don't like when the enemies yell "Muerte". In the original the red zellet would yell "MATALO" which makes more sense. It would be like yelling death! Instead of kill him!
Exactly. Imo the remake was perfect with how realistic leon reacted to certain situations while still having some of the cheesy one liners but it blended well with the ongoing gameplay. People fr need to stop bitchin. Possible GOTY again
@@reinerbraun4504 nah he’s right. The new voice for Ada kinda sucks. It’s not really the VOICE I mean, but the voice actor, she sounds like she’s not even trying and is just reading the script.
I love both versions. OG Leon is just in full on cheesy action hero mode and cannot wait to spout his one liners. He’s a ton of fun and very memorable. He played right into the over the top nature of the villains he encounters like he does this every day. Remake Leon is more consistent with his character from 2, which is something his version actually does do better than the original. He’s kinda jaded and totally over these megalomaniacal assholes and his humour comes from not being amused at all. His reading of “Who the HELL are you?” when he meets Salazar is both appropriate and hilarious. He’s like the straight man who gets the best lines and it totally works.
I argue the gap from the RE2 to RE4 makes the change more like a progression. The remake really keeps Leon blunt, despite his experiences with this world.
I love OG Leon, but I favor the Remake version more this time around. Mostly because we now have a back story about his training, about Krauser. I also like the more serious and mature attitude but with a little comedy, too. I almost cried when the Remake added the "bingo" iconic line. But there are some things I miss from OG, like Ada's "Need a ride, Handsome?", the knife in Salazars hand, the laser room. Also, I don't hate Ada's VA, but it feels off. She is supposed to have a sexy, sultry voice and attitude. She is a Femme Fatale for God's sake.
looool yeah, i mean blud just survived the battle against a big weirdass fish, a titan and a scorpion tip-toe dancer missionary, and now he sees a victorian midget welcoming him. i might do the same 🤣
It’s in the same beautiful vein of Ethan Winters’ “F*** you, you crazy b****!” Capcom is doing a better job of remembering that most RE protagonists are Americans with guns who are focused on survival and don’t care about the deeper mysteries and horror of the world they inhabit. That’s true to how people irl would act, thus I end up enjoying the modern era of RE (Everything since 2017, including 7, the Remakes for 2 and 3, 8, and the Remake for 4) the most for its commitment to realism and true drama over the campy comedies of old (some of which included hurtful micro-aggressions, such as “*Sigh* Women” and “Guess that’s the locals’ way of breaking the ice”)
It's hard to pick one because the remake Leon makes more sense given the context of the situation but og Leon is so unserious in such an iconic way that he makes the oneliners and cheesy lines so fun
@@Pillshere31 yeah I know but og Leon had it in both, just that we didn't hear it with his voice outside of the cutlines, but whenever you interact with something in the og Leon has a sarcastic or cheesy comment. Remake Leon does some comments but way less than og Leon

I like how the OG leon was more "comedic" and the new leon is more "emotional and mature" both have amazing additions to the game in their own way, can't really say the same for OG Luis, I feel the new Luis had both more character development and story relevance, if you took away Luis from the OG game the story could carry out normally, also I feel the new Luis is more of someone you can identify with emotionally, I also liked OG Ramón more than the remake one, I find him to be a bland compared to the original
Eh...it's not realistic. In this one you can feel the fear & tension of Leon when he sees Mendez that he immediately draws his gun because he's so intimidating.
2:55 I always thought the "You got a smoke?" question was a code phrase, so Luis would know if someone he met was working with his contacts or just a random person.
Thats why "i got gum" og line is so funny and innocent. but the remake totally changes the context with emotional payoff with his new line. it depends which one u prefer: a laugh or emotional growth.-
Something I noticed is how many people (back then too) complained about Ashley being a damsel in distress. Which.. yeah. My only issue with the remake is Ramon. He's easily one of the most memorable villains in the original game, everything from his outfit, the way he looks, talks and presents himself is so campy and funny. The back and forth between Leon and him is great. The remake version is dull compared to the original, but I understand why they made the changes they did.
he is a castelian, so its actually fair if he behaves as one. as much as i love the memorable moments from OG, he was just a spoiled brat in the original. now he has more dignity as a castle owner. which is much better for the lore sake, but then again, yeah Ramon was legendary in OG, speaking of memorable stuffs
Honestly I agree. RE4 Remake was how I entered the Resident Evil series and got into a lot of the other games. After playing both the original and remake they both are amazing in their own ways. It honestly annoys me that everywhere I go there's a war over which one's better or which one's bad. There are definitely some things in the original that had charm (examples being the dialogue and voices), and there were definitely some things that the remake improved from the original (example being Luis and Ashley's characterizations). They're both really awesome. Sure they both have their issues, but I don't think there's a single game I've played that doesn't have something that could be better or improved. The graphics look great in both, there's amazing dialogue moments in both, there's solid voice acting, and they're both fun to play. I'd even dare say that the remake is one of my favorite games I've ever played. (I haven't gotten entirely through the og yet so I can't give much of a verdict yet.) So yeah, there's my overly long explanation of why they're both the greatest games of all time to me.
Honestly couldn’t be more happier with the remake, it’s the definitive way to experience this story. Sure I missed out on the OG great experience but going in blind into the remake kept me on edge of my seat eager to find out what happens next cause I don’t know the story beats or everything that happened in the OG Re4, so no spoilers for me, I get to experience this badass story for the first time and it was magical! I also don’t need to constantly compare it to the OG about which is better cause the remake was Perfect imo. Nostalgia didn’t dilute my experience with the remake.
@@sal4731 How the heck can you say "it’s the definitive way to experience this story" if you didn't even play the original? o.O That makes absolutely zero sense..

I'm glad they got Nick to reprise his role as Leon. It helps show Leon's growth from Res2, more naturally. I do find it funny how they used Leon's A scenario from re2make. But honestly, it flows better. Having Leon learn from Marvin. Aswell as Leon holding on to Marvin's knife. Is a nice touch.
@@cafs99 cause her VA is in a union and Capcom didn't want the "hassle". So they got Ada's actress from the live action show whom has never done any voice acting until this game
Nick even made RE4 (remake) Leon sound more bitter...Maturing/deepening the voice is easy, but he actually sounded more jaded and bitter; that's a hard micro-change.
I played the original game when I was 10 years old, and I didn't understand English at all at that time. I actually never knew Leon was really goofy, and I always thought he was badass from all the gestures and body language. It wasn't until I replayed the original two years ago that I realized he was always goofy. I was actually laughing at most of the OG cutscenes from Leon's lines. I love it.
@@sokol5805 I wouldn't say boring, I would say more serious, even though I preffer the OG one a lot more (just like krauser, ramon, ada, luis, saddler and wesker -and their voices-)
One of the few problems I have with the remake is the removal of the bad guys hacking into your communications. While Leon still gets to have a couple back-and-forths with Salazar, it's not nearly as often as it used to be, and Saddler as a result feels less present. I like the bits where Leon sees Saddler through the Plagas mind control stuff, but again, it wasn't enough to give him much depth.
imo Saddler was the worst thing about this remake. He was caricaturish Ralph Fiennes playing Voldemort with a nose...and appearing in visions and then that crap boss fight.
Shoulda included the scene where 2005 Leon ninja throws the knife into Salazar's hand as he was monologuing to 2023 Leon shooting lead into Salazar without giving him a chance of monologuing. I do appreciate more with 2023 Leon's proactiveness and sense of urgency given the crazy situations he's in.
Frankly, to me anyway, the remake is just RE4-2. Once I beat the remake, I wanted to play it over again but also wanted to replay the original and what I found is the original still holds up extremely well. Maybe newer players will find the originals controls a little clunky, but I encourage people to play the original and remake back to back, they are literally the best games capcom has ever made and they both deserve the praise and respect they both get and are getting. Seeing the changes and what they keep the same is very fun, adds to them both.
@@_dibbs I have full nostalgia goggles for the original so I agree but I can’t deny I had similar feelings when playing the remake, like the opening village assault, really made me feel that excitement I did when playing the original for the first time. They really are both masterpieces and if new players are coming to the remake, never having played the original, I honestly think it’s almost a requirement to play them back to back. Having the original or remake be a companion piece for the other you play first.
Honestly, I feel the complete same which is why I really enjoyed both the original and the remake. It still makes playing the original worth it to find those differences between OG and the remake. But we also get similarities with the remake and something new. So I love the fact that they’re both similar and different
Remake Leon doesn't disappoint, he's way more serious and obviously suffering from PTSD but he's still got some of that charm original Leon has. Nick is the perfect remake Leon, Paul is the perfect classic Leon and Merchant. Both make the character so much more cool and loveable. I love the remake as much as the original. Both have different tones but work perfectly. Some of the one-liners from the remake are great. But OG Leon will always be the best Leon for me personally, it's cause of his cheesy and fun character portrayal in OG that his popularity in the series grew. He has the most memorable lines and moments except for the bizarre John wick moments from Remake leon.
I personally love how they handled Leon’s character in the remake. His sharp wit and dry sense of humor are still very much intact. His voice is absolutely dripping with sarcasm. At the same time, they did a fantastic job making him feel more human this time around. In scenes such as after he kills Krauser, or during the scene when he finds Ashley and sits next to the bed while he waits for her to wake up, you can tell that the weight of everything is starting to get to him. Unfortunately for him, he doesn’t have time to dwell on these thoughts and instead has to push them aside and focus on the mission. Unlike the original, it feels like he’s trying not to let things bother him because he can’t afford to, not because he doesn’t care.
And personally I feel that’s the problem with a lot of games and media. Not everything has to be realistic and easily relatable. One of my Biggest gripes about the remake was just how damn depressing and miserable the atmosphere was and it just felt like Leon was whining like a 5yo about everything. I’m not saying the original is better in every way. I do like updates like Ashley not being annoying for one. The combat system. The gem system etc. there’s a ton of great additions. However. Coming back as an Original massive fan of Re4 it was just. Depressing playing as Leon that was just miserable the entire time. Life is already miserable, I don’t need to play the Re4 version of the Last of Us. If I wanted depression from my video games I would play literally ANY Yoko Taro game since any is guaranteed to be 10 billion % uber depressing as fuck. 😂 like Automata. “oh are you having fun with big ass android girl? Well have some identity crisis suffering robot you have to murder and watch everything and everyone you meet just fucking die in the most gruesome way possible”.
I’m also not saying your opinions are invalid. Far from it. :0 It’s merely just me expressing my own thoughts so I do apologize if I came across as insulting of your opinion.
@@DarkEclipse23 I wouldn't say Leon acts depressed, but rather...more grounded. He takes things seriously when necessary, but his sarcasm and dry sense of humor are still intact. I like the fact that we can see how much his trauma has taken a toll on him over the years. He's riddled with PTSD and survivor's guilt. It adds more depth to his character and makes him feel more believable. To be honest, I think it's just a matter of personal preference. I personally like when a form of media, whether it's a video game or a TV show or a movie, knows when it needs to be taken seriously. It makes the stakes feel higher, which I think was lacking in the original (but I also know that the light-hearted tone and cheesiness of the original is what people love about it). As a long time fan of the original, I like both games almost equally, but I do have a slight preference for the remake. I like how the story and characters were handled. Also, you're good, and I appreciate that you didn't come here looking for an argument or insulting my opinion. I know that people have their own gripes and nitpicks with the remake, and that's fine. What I can’t stand is when people jump on the "soulless" argument bandwagon as though there are absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's fine to have a preference for the original, but the people who act like no effort went into the remake or that it didn't make improvements to the original are in denial.
4:02 i love this exchange so much. It's like Luis invited leon over to smoke weed after school but leon brought a girl and luis wants to make sure she's not gonna tell.
I would love it if in just a non-canon comic or animation, both Leon’s meet during the mission. There differences would be so funny to see when together.
OG leon gives off more of a "If I can't beat the crazies, I guess I'll just join them and have fun too" kind of guy, while remake Leon gives off more of a dry, sarcastic and done with everyone's shit attitude. I like OG Leon because he just plays along with the craziness that's happening in front of him, but I also like the remake portrayal of Leon who's done with everyone's shit as it's very realistic and is a better development if they are trying to aim for a disillusioned Leon for future games.
I love that original Leon seemed to be having the time of his life throughout his little adventure, whereas new Leon is just completely fed up with everything.
The OG put emphasis on Leon on "your another mission" and romnticism and other dramatic scenes (hence lots of wide shots) while the remake focuses more on modernisation and realism and alignment with other remakes and spin off stories (Leon becomes a more traumatised survivor of raccoon and umbrella). In short, in my humble opinion the OG is the upbeat and turnaround of classic RE while the Remake is another remake of RE
Both are super good... If leon use some more iconic line in the remake its gonna be masterpiece (in the quotes i mean not the gameplay/story its already masterpiece)
@@doomguydemonkilleras a whole yeah but I think he means those quips just became such a big part of Leon's character and in the new one everything is taken way more serious
@@joaolima7131 yeah but his tone is different and the quips aren't as fun. Those depressed/traumatized characters are really becoming a cliché these days,in name of the "realism" on the characters, but each one deals with their traumas in a different way,but those days almost they all are depressed... They could have balanced Leon's behavior on the remake, because the entire game feels serious now.
A modern day male character can't have fun and being a badass, he must be depressed and miserable. Bonus ESG rating points if he's incopetent and a woman side character always saves his ass.
I love the remake. They still kept some of the cheese, but refined everything else and added a serious tone to it all. Both the original and remake are a blast!
Both Leons are up to the standards of B movies. It's just what ERA of B movies that are different, 2005 Leon is from the Bruce Campbell era. While 2023 Leon is from the Sharknado era of B movies

@@avocadothecat If you like Sharknado, the Evil Dead and Army of Darkness Bruce Campbell films might be a fun and interesting watch. They’re like the precursors to the cheesy horror films we get nowadays. Super ridiculous, badass but stupid at the same time, great films.
2023 Leon is a tad too brooding and his one liners are spoken with too much irony, but he does react to events far more realistically. 2005 Leon is an cheeseball action hero who seems out of place in this gory tale of cults and parasites, but his swagger is unassailable. Dude is just a badass in every sense. I think 2005 Leon edges it out.
Honestly, I kind of feel like Paul Mercier's performance as Leon in Resident Evil 4 could have helped contribute to its long-standing popularity. Aside from his voice perfectly matching Leon's character model and build, he rarely, if ever, shows fear for the various monstrosities he comes across, and seems fully confident in his own abilities, even when facing a setback. Makes the player feel like a world beater against all odds.
I honestly prefer the original as far as quips and one-liners go but the remake also does a pretty good job. A bit sad they had to remove some iconic lines but I understand that they wouldn't have fitted the darker theme of this remake
"No thanks, bro," will forever reign supreme in my mind. I find Leon's new line to be lackluster, really. The remake's focus on seriousness and intensity can be a bit too reminiscent of modern horror movies. It tends to feel rather cliché, but this time without the anchor of the silly, B movie camp that made the original so lovable. I think a lot of people forget that being campy doesn't automatically equate to being shitty.
@@MrREAPERsz There are a few good one-liners, though. Many of them are uttered during gameplay, which I tend to have mixed feelings about. "No food for you" when being attacked and "Here we go" when first drawing the ire of the village being some good examples.
A little cheese is in the remake but you can obviously tell they didn't have the resolve to fully commit which is why it feels so lukewarm in comparison. It's also very clear Capcom wants to cater to the West moreso than Japan, specifically America. In turn, everything is super watered down as to not offend anyone. OG RE4 was very unapologetically corny and that's why it worked. RE4R was half-assed corn.
OG Leon’s attitude throughout the game was headstrong and making light of the situation. REmake Leon is coping with every horrifying encounter by trying to crack a joke. Emphasis on trying. Mainly because if he didn’t, he’d lose himself in the mayhem that is Los Iluminados.
There’s a shit ton of campy dialogue in-game within the remake. Also, Resident Evil was never originally as campy as RE4. Most of that personality was copied from American action movies that were generic at that time
The thing I find fun about all these remakes is that when watching them side by side they feel like the cool summer blockbuster you've seen as a kid and its nostalgic tie-in ps2 movie game
SAAAAAME like remake leon is so likably as a real life person and as much as i love the the og lines, if i heard themnin real life i wouldn't find them hilarious the way i do when i watch them in the oh. However, the new lines are lnes i would expect to hear in real life and make me crack xDD
Honestly as I've grown up the remake is more enjoyable to me. I'll have nostalgia for "Saddler, you're small time" but as an adult I find more humor in something like "Sorry, didn't know that was yours" (as the Bella sister grabs the crank handle he needs)
I honestly did really enjoy the remake, and I think they’ve done a pretty outstanding job at making these games feel fresh. However, my problem with all the remakes in general (not just RE but all games) is that writers these days seem to think it’s cool to take away all of the characters fun charisma and replace it with more gritty, dry, “realistic” personalities. The new Tomb Raider games are also a good example of this, with how they made Lara’s character so bland. And Leon is a similar case imo. No witty humor. No attitude. No charisma. I don’t mind having serious characters sometimes, but why are they literally ALL the SAME now? Can we have a bit of individuality?
@@complimentbot7015 Well I think “cringe” can be rather subjective, but to be perfectly honest, even if it is “cringe” (which it isn’t imo) I’d rather have a little “cringe” than something generic, bland and repetitive. Cringe can be entertaining. If you’re not playing games to be entertained than I don’t really know what you’re playing for. To each his own, I guess. That’s all I have to say. ✌️
I don't know what you're talking about with Leon in the remake because they definitely gave him personality. Yes, they made him more serious than the original, which fit more to me. But his dialogue still has humor and attitude. An example I feel was the delivery on the "Who the *hell* are you?" when he meets Ramón. And personally I just really like the "I'll give you a holy body" line at the Saddler boss fight. To me they made Leon more done with everything, and that makes sense since after the events of RE2R, and then the 7 years of intense military training and from what it sounded like *no* therapy, I would also be dry and done with everything.
@@TheRevenant4585Also I'm confused on how cringe is entertaining? I thought the whole concept of "cringe" is negative and generally when I think of something being cringe, it's me disliking something or almost getting uncomfortable from it. Kind of like second hand embarrassment.
Man graphics keep improving, it's so wild. REmake 4 cutscenes look like a movie! They're so tonally heavy too. They seemed to have done a great job based on comments I've seen; I haven't watched gameplay yet.
I honestly like how the remake doesn't entirely outdate the original, I can see myself playing it for nostalgia some time from now still and have just as much of a blast as I do right now with the remake. Leon in the original was campy, funny and over-the-top. Leon in the remake is a little broody and a smartass, while little more grounded as the plot has been made a lot darker and little more serious. I'd argue he is a lot more endearing in the remake as he doesn't really feel so invincible as he did in the original, but both takes are great and fit the game and the pacing perfectly. Also P. Mercier did not disappoint and delivered a stellar VA for him AND the merchant.
I love both games, the original was so ridiculous and fun, while in the remake, they corrected some of those things, making it more believable. I appreciate that a lot Both of them should be played as different experiences
Corrected? Like it needed fixing to begin with. Making it more believable and 'realistic' for a series as ridiculous as RE and especially for how campy and hilarious the OG 2005 game was just serves to make the remake come off as just a watered down, duller version of a game that never needed a remake in the first place.
@@ChrisMorris0 i mean it's not an insane idea, maybe gum helps him focus or something, it's just something i wouldn't consider a necessity and i never knew he had
