I'm keeping tally... so far, for all the bags you have mu-ti-la-ted, only Shinola and Bottega has earned your respect. Off to save money for a Shinola bag... 😎
I love shinola. The first item i ever got from them was the leather backpack. I've used the heck out of it, and it still looks new when I clean it up. 7 years later. Just picked up my third bag (slim brief) and its stunning. Was bummed to take everything out of it and see a "Made in Vietnam" tag though.
You’re fantastic to watch! Who knew cringing while watching you destroy luxury brands I adore and own (or lust after), was going to be so fun. But it is!! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to your craft. I feel so much more educated!
Every once in a while, I have a crazy thought that I should just *wreck* one of my purses (or a sweater, etc). It's soothing and violent at the same time. Conflicted me, I'm fighting the good fight for my accessories. So far, so good!
Thanks for doing this, it's informative and appreciated. But next time you destroy a bag can you please give us some info about the stitching, can you burn off a thread so we can see if it's linen or polyester? And can you see if it's machine stitched everywhere or do they have finishing details by hand? Hand stitching is easy to tell because there is no lockstitch in the middle of the hole. Stitching is important, some times manufactures use the cheapest and thinnest threads because the bobbins last longer and the machines for thin threads are cheaper. Also some info about the lining would be great, this one looks like good quality heavy canvas from here but I can't tell for sure. Lastly, can you please scratch the hardware with a file to see if it's solid brass or nickel plated please. All those things matter in a bag, we'd love to know more.
Because of this video, I bought my first Shinola bag. It has "Sewn in the USA" and a serial number on the inside tag. I bought it "previously loved" and now it is loved again! Thank you for your videos and reviews!!!❤
i just wonder, what bags does your wife carry? would you recommend them? could you pls make a video? also I have a rebecca minkoff bag regan saddle pebble bag. could you pls review that brand if it’s good? thank you
I am new to working with leather (just one bag so far) but I have a Rebecca Minkoff bag. I like it but the one I have doesn't fit that much in it, so I don't use it too often.
people probably used to learn to sew in school (home economics) and at home. so probably more trade skills need to be taught again. same thing they talk about with lots of things related to education/trades.
I'm just surprised how small little threads hold up the shape and structure of leather. Especially in bags where weight adds to wear and tear of the product.
They don't. There is usually reinforcements, tape, and/or interfacing in key areas between the leather and the lining, otherwise the bag would sag like a sack of potatoes.
I’m so looking forward to when your Channel hints to 1 million subscribers. Thank you for making all the education leather videos. I’m going to make a purchase from your Etsy now.
Wow. Thanks for introducing this brand to me too. I'm wondering if you'll be analysing Bolderini Selleria brand one day. They seemed to use good quality leather in veg tan colours. ❤️🙏
Thank you for your channel! I love leather but unwilling to pay the hefty price of leather goods from top luxury brands as I know I would just be spending a ridiculous amount of money for their name. I quite like the Aspinal of London and Tusting brands from England and I wonder if you could do a deconstruction with the Aspinal of London's Portobello and midi Mayfair bags as well as with the mini Holy and mini Hazel bags of the Tusting brand? Would really appreciate it. Thank you.
Hi! Would you be able to test the Tiffany Tote? It says it's made with Italian leather. Black grain calfskin. The cost is $1680.00. Also, do you make and sell women's leather bags?
I would like to know how can I tell if the bag is good or not respect to the finish, because I like a bag that doesn't scratches and be really usable. What is considered better in general?
There is a very old and crude saying in the US-- "He doesn't know sh#@ from shinola." Obviously shinola was meant to be good. I wonder if the brand is very old and (as old as that saying--at least 70 years), and they meant to compare it to the brand.
That saying comes from the original shinola brand which made shoe polish. Basically you can’t tell shit from shoe polish. This shinola just took the brand name as an homage to an earlier time where stuff was American made
I know that your wife must lose her mind when you bring a bag home and then take it apart 😳🥺 I would have a fit😅 but I will assume (trying not to make a azz out of myself) that if you can so easily destroy a high-end luxury bag, it would be nothing for you to replace it if your wife likes it. Another great video.
May you please please please review or see the leather on sofas? I'm in the market for one. There's on at sam's club for a seemingly good price called the Livingston recliner sofa that I've been looking at
