South Point is the only hotel we stay at when we visit Las Vegas. Sign up for the Players Card, we use it all the time and our rooms are comped even though we are far from being high rollers. They also have free valet parking, not too many hotels in Vegas offer that.
We only stay at South Point. There is plenty of people watching. Horses, well... Smell like horses but who doesn't love horses. This is our go to place. Can't wait to eat the specials after midnight.
We love South Point!! We have stayed there 3 times and are coming this month. My husband is a bowler and they host the National Open Championship in house. It's really convenient to have bowling within the hotel! We bring our two teenage girls, who love the pool and movie theater. The restaurants are all great! Security is never an issue! We feel very safe and there is tons to do.
As a local who plays slots only, I've found the payback at South Point to be about the same as the Strip. I wish it paid better than the Strip, but my experience after almost fifty visits is that it doesn't. I prefer playing slots at the Wynn just because they have a special free play promotion for local residents only. If you're aged 50 or over, on Mondays you can use your player's club points to pay for meals with only 50% points needed. This is a really good deal.
Appreciate the info on Wynn, considering at 635 of video gambling is recommended at South Point. As a former local SP was my go-to for steak and eggs 12am -5am (if I remember correctly) for $4.99 and it is NY strip, and also like their sports book. Playing Video poker at SP never had any luck though. Visiting in June and planning on trying the Wynn buffet, might have to check out the high limit slots at the Wynn. thanks
I love staying at South Point. It's so much more relaxing away from the busy hustle and bustle of the strip or downtown. I do love the strip and downtown, but sometimes I just want to relax after a day spent on the strip and downtown. Another great thing about South Point is that they have a free airport shuttle for their guests. Your so right about their restaurants being really good for very reasonable prices. My favorite is their steak house. It's so nice and really delish. Thanks for a really good look at South Point. It made me that much more excited about staying there next month.
We have been staying there for years. Rooms are nice. We like the hot dogs for a cheap lunch option. The pool is open late, which is great if you stay there in the summer.
South Point has TWO bowling alleys. The regular one, as well as a professional only stadium style bowling alley out by the arena. The bowling tournament they have yearly is the largest in the world, with over 50,000 bowlers It lasts several months, results in 30,000 room nights booked, and is responsible for something like 13 percent of South Point's annual revenue. Yes I work there. Lol
Great info from a proud employee. That said, why does the casino floor smell like a giant ashtray? it's really difficult to play slots/table games for more than 30 minutes, on busy days it's almost unbearable. Yes, some gamblers smoke, but not all do, the demographics are changing so should the Southpoint/Gaughan Gaming. Similarly designed casinos like Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast have similar air quality problems. Pathetic that this is still an issue for casino employees and non smokers in 2022.
@@emailuser8668 I don't notice it, and am surprised given the height of the ceilings. But I have heard that all Gaughan properties past and present have a similar "engineering footprint". So you're probably right.
I think they should ban smoking EVERYWHERE except designated smoking places no where near anyone else. Smoking is vile and i just can’t see why anyone would smoke and smell like a damn ashtray. Disgusting and we all have to suffer because of them. Nasty
I really like Southpoint’s gambling floor as well as their hotel rooms. I normally stay in the king suite and it’s so huge. You’re correct they keep it very pristine there for the type of decor they have. Also to know there’s two bowling centers there one is mainly for tournaments but it’s huge in gorgeous. The Coronado is actually one of my favorite late night eats the service and the food is amazing.
I met the Rubys while they were filming this in during Champagne Brunch at the Garden Buffet. I agree SP is very worth the price. It has a local feel and is way off the Strip. Located at the end of the city so really think about what kind of experience your want. It’s located near a quiet neighborhood. I’ve been here twice for work conventions. The coupon book is a definite need. Ask for it if the front desk forgets. Note about the slippers: They are plush but smaller and don’t fit my size 12 feet. Mr Ruby: Thanks for recommending the Circa Sportsbook for NFL playoff watching the seat prices were worth the hours of fun.
I have stayed at South Point. I thought it was fine. I think it is a good option if you want to get off the Strip. I noticed a lot of locals playing there.
This hotel is one of the best there is. I have been coming here for more than twenty-five years. One minor complaint are the resort fees. However if you have a AAA card you will get the lowest price for a room similar to what the video has already pointed out. One other thing they offer free parking. Five star service.
Idk abt u goin for more than 25 years ya time maybe a little off lol this joint ain’t been around that long but yea the value here is dope i stayed there once a few years ago and feel like i got a ton for wat i spent and to me the resort fees are reasonable it’s 27$ a night i was supposed to stay at the Monte Carlo hotel (it’s park mgm now) but i had got screwed over by a travel agency and was scrambling to find a room and ended up at south point and had a ball everything was mad cheap and the rooms were HUGE
I love and have loved the southpoint for 15 years, I'm in my mid 40's now not a senior citizen. 🤣 I started going when my kids hit their teens, they loved the food, bowling, arcade, movie theater and pools. We could go play and drink and the kids did their thing and we got to do ours. Not a huge party scene, but relaxed atmosphere.
Visited South Point for our first time this October (2023) and found the slots very generous and the buffet was a great value. Will definitely be back.
We love the South Point. Always have to eat at the Primarily Prime Rib. Huge portions and delicious. There are more bowling lanes in another area for tournaments. The hot dogs are available until 5pm every day; so good!
Lol the shower sounds 😂 South Point was our place when we lived over in the South West part of Vegas. Always did decent with the machines there and they have an old-school machine called Hot Flashes that I can't find anywhere else in Vegas. Love that game. SP is a great place.
Glad you found the hot dogs! They are fantastic! One of our favorite restaurants at South Point is Primarily Prime Rib. A big delicious cut of prime rib with potato or vegetable and rolls/butter for $20. You can't beat it! And their poker room is always packed with both tournaments and cash games.
You HAVE to try Primarily Prime when you're there! We go there rather than the steakhouse on the first floor. Old Vegas feel, with no pretense. Plus, some of the BEST prime rib I've ever had!
The oyster bar had the best weekday happy hour specials!!! My go to. When we drive in, I always make sure I make it by 3pm from LA just for the happy hour. The oysters are huge.
@@kleptodathief3946 you can get their menu online. They have a lobster sandwich, which I have had, that was good if you like lobster, but it was spice less and not memorable.
I went to Vegas last April and I stayed in the resort next door to south point because I used my military discount which was $400 for the week. I spent a lot of time at south point gambling, bingo and eating at several buffets. I had a great time there and will definitely visit again.
Ruby try the M Resort for your next off strip stay. I stayed there once and it was one of the most enjoyable stays I’ve ever had even though it’s a short drive off strip there is no issue with it if you have a rental. The suites at the M and the bloody marys at the M Cafe are some of the best secrets ever.
Seconded. The M and Red Rock are two of the best resorts in Vegas. Standard room at M when first opened was the nicest standard room I’d ever seen anywhere with Red Rock’s a close second.
Booked a week there over Halloween because SouthPoint is quiet, 21+, and clean. The breakfast buffet is awesome, get a players card for a $10 breakfast buffet everyday but Sat/Sun. Other than going to watch Freakmont on Halloween night, we usually stay at the hotel.
The restaurant, Michael’s at South Point used to be at the Barbary Coast hotel. It’s by far one of the best restaurants in all of Vegas. Very old world Vegas! Absolutely one of the best meals you’ll ever have! We go every time we come to Vegas. It’s a must do!
I’ve stayed here many times, it’s big spacious has so much to do with the movie theater, the bowling alley, the spa is great, the arcade and the pool is nice. 👍🏾❤️ great video as always Ruby and yes they give the coupons out at front desk so nice
I've stayed at the SP a couple of times for Super Bowl (21 years straight) weekend with the boys. I've been to Vegas maybe 30-35 times and SP is one of my favorites. I would stay there again but one of the guys I go with had a falling out with the professional gambler he associates with and through him we were able to get a lot of comps, so no more SP. I love the early morning breakfast at the The Coronado Café if just to people watch. We used to love the Stardust, Rio was okay and the Orleans I'd drink battery acid before I ever step in there again. When the wife and I go it used to be the Mirage, but now it's the Venetian.
Kinda random, but the Starbucks inside that hotel doesn't charge for water. Starbucks inside of hotels on the strip charge $2 (maybe 1.50, I don't remember) for their large. Which sucks, but is cheaper than buying bottled water, esp because it comes with ice. The only downside to the casino floor is that they do allow smoking so it can get pretty stinky in there, esp if you aren't a smoker.
I recommend staying at South Point. Every year a group of us bowlers are here for the Military Bowling Tournament in August. We stay for a week and we get our room comp. Plus go into the Executive office and ask for a food comp for one of the fine restaurants. I've been given a food comp from $150 to $400. I give this outstanding casino hotel a 5 ⭐ rating.
Lol ok so in the shot at 4:20 when you’re talking outside the oyster bar, I’m just off camera playing a 100-play penny machine. I remembered seeing you behind me with the cameraman and thinking oh she’s doing a spot for RU-vid. Southpoint is the best. I’ve been there probably 15 times in the last ten years. Easy comps. Never have paid for a room. Great video poker, great food options. Lots to do. My home away from home
I've been here 3 times in the past 5 months and going again in 3 weeks. For all the reasons stated in this video is why I keep coming back! Personally for me, it is the Face Up Pai Gow and the abundance of Game King machines. One minor gripe was my mother being hassled by some woman wanting money for her fake jewelry near the doors by the self parking structure.
Since Benny passed away they had to find someone else to pose for the sculpture! I happen to know the guy that posed for it and he is a judge in Wisconsin!! Thanks for the vid 😃😃😃
Ruby I like how u and ur hubby do Vegas. It’s a lot like my hubby and I. We eat and gamble and explore and gamble and eat and go sit by the pool and gamble some more lol. It’s a more chill version than most who party and club all night. Glad to see someone enjoy all the things the hotels have to offer. Maybe some day we will be lucky enough to run into you
South Point is amazing. Love that place. Coronado cafe has some of the best food prices in all of Vegas after midnight. You get more for your money at that place than just about any casino hotel.
This will be our 5th time coming back to South Point. They have the best whole pizzas from the bowling alley. The coupons you get at check in are huge $$ savings. The last two years and they made great improvements to the buffet, its incredible now (use the coupon) Then we can't wait to get the super late night NY strip with eggs. We also hit it for the Porterhouse or prime rib. Food is really good and the staff has always been great!
Stay at the Southpoint since they opened. Great hotel and you can't go wrong. You said you were off the strip. Actually it's on Las Vegas blvd south so you are still on the strip but way South
A couple of things not mentioned is the wide array of food choices and food deals, and that the gift shop and the liquor therein is very reasonably priced.
After watching some poker vlogs done there, and doing more research, I've been thinking of staying at SPHC the next time I go. Your report has just further cemented that view!
Stayed a few times at SouthPoint and hung out there a few more. Very relaxed. Not for those looking for flash and wow factor. SouthPoint is for those that want to have a true vacation or lower key but fun night out... relaxed, good food, nice sports book, plenty of "area" bars in the casino area, and friendly crowd playing the tables. Lots of special events there, some open to the public. The Casino Collectables Association has their convention there in June. Plenty of freebies and discounts for hotel guests.
IDK if it's still in existence but the showroom hosted the Dennis Bono Show (my dad's a Henderson, NV resident whereas I'm from Detroit, MI). My dad & I were frequently in attendance every Thursday @ South Point's Showroom 4 the Dennis Bono Show (he hosted lots of the old-school entertainers such as Clint "Playground In My Mind" House, Deana Martin (Dean's daughter), Tony Orlando, etc.). Tickets were FREE (w/the Players' Club Card).
I have a timeshare across the street at Grandview (yes one of those people sucked in, for us back in 2007). Anyway, we decided to make the best of it and enjoy our timeshare there or trade for other places. When we do use our week in Vegas….I love having South Point right there. Gambling is a little better, drinks are cheaper….they have Bingo, bowling, and movies…and so many restaurants. And very friendly people working!
as a local I agree South Point is a nice enough casino. Great movie theater. Some good basic food options - their high style is not all that special but it's good. It is not a special place but it's a good place - not something I would suggest you MUST see - but good basic value and it appeals to a market looking for basic. I agree - try it. Good value - clean - nice staff and easy on and off Rt. 15 for the fancy part of vegas if you want some of that
Yep, and didn't have the back hotel section originally. It was just rectangular, but now the building is "T" shaped. I'm an engineer there and some of our original ladders still have "South Coast" spray-painted on the side
I always end up going back! Love the pool, fitness center, SPA (all of the little pool areas in the spa are great as well as the lounge area). Coffee stand is nice and quick, Buffet is great but casino is pretty smoky which I can't stand. So much to love but the beds are a bit hard. You have to switch rooms if you do. Parking is free and right off the highway if you want to go hiking at Mt Charleston which I always do. Scott from Milwaukee
The worst thing about South Pointe is the location of the elevators which are in the area of the Equestrian Center. We were on a lower floor close to the elevators and the odor from the Equestrian Center permeated the lower floors and elevator which were quite unpleasant to me. On that same note, the cafe was the only place open early am for breakfast and I was unable to eat because of the odor again from the Equestrian Center. Other than that it is a nice casino, but beware of the strong "horse odor" if you are sensitive to odors
I just gambled there a couple weeks ago and it's a vibrant and thriving property. I'm going back to Vegas is a few days and staying there for a night. I can't wait! I also liked that M&M cookie I bought there! It was as big as someones head!
Thanks Ruby I have singled this hotel out for our next stay after doing some research. One thing I found interesting is in that the Coronado Cafe offers Chinese lunch and dinner specialities and and it's like the of type food you would get in Boston or New York so we're sort of excited about that. Check out their menu. The pool looks beautiful and we enjoy the games of the arcade as well as some gambling. We're going to grab a suite and we'll probably be there in April and May very excited thanks again Mrs. Ruby.
Went there a few years ago. There is a Blue Green Resort hotel connected next door. Went to South Point late night to gamble and have a few drinks. It was pretty nice. We ate there as well - would recommend it. It is off strip but its only about 10 minutes away straight shot downtown.
As someone who has been a local of Vegas for a decade and who primary plays bingo and nickel slots only, this is my favorite hotel with a bingo hall. Since I moved out of Vegas this hotel has the best rooms compared to others that are off the strip or Fremont. Which is the hotels I like staying at, id highly recommend staying away from the strip or Fremont because they are much less hectic, that's why a majority of locals only go to casinos like it. Sam's town and sun coast are also hotels I frequent as well
I've wanted to stay here, but I usually have things I'm doing on the Strip and it's an inconvenience to jump from 'off strip' to strip. I want to go sometime with no plans, but to enjoy South Point and the surrounding area. Good to know that the Coronado Cafe is available 24/7, I only wish that the Big Sur Oyster Bar was 24 hours too, like the Oyster Bar at Harrah's currently is(soon to be replaced with Gordon Ramsey Kitchen #Sigh😪) Bowling Lanes look cool! You should contact the front desk/maintenance if you have issues. I had a bathtub overflow into the shower and onto the bathroom floor at Bellagio and maintenance brought a HVAC blowgun and cleared the clog as housekeeping cleaned the bathroom and replaced towels I had used to corral the flood in about half an hour! I also had a broken washer/dryer handle in Vdara and the old maintenance guy was able to replace it in about 1/2 hour also, even with supply/parts issues! It might have been a partially clogged shower head not allowing the correct airflow through the shower head, an easy fix.
To me, South Point is where the kind of gamblers that went to Binion's Horseshoe go to gamble now. The statue of Benny Binion used to be downtown on Ogden Street (I'm pretty sure it was Ogden) South Point also has some more of Benny's stuff on display. Binion's Horseshoe was our favorite back when Benny's and Jack ran the place. Benny was very good to my Mom. I remember playing video poker and Benny or Jack would walk through the casino and ask if I was being treated well and if I needed anything. (It wasn't just me. They asked mosr people as they walked through the casino) I like South Point, and we always try to go there for their buffet. It's good. The M's buffet used to be one of my favorites, but I heard they closed it down. South Point is always clean.
My wife and I have been here many times. I did not see anything about the great deserts they have next to the sports bar. We love to get a nice piece of cake and watch sports
Our flight out of Vegas was delayed by a day and the Airline put us up at South Point for the night (March 1st this year). We were impressed. Great room, nice dining options, 3/2 blackjack. Interestingly, we loved the shower, so I think it was a problem with your room. We were on the 2nd floor though, so maybe the water pressure is a problem on the higher floors.
We stayed on the 11th floor in the end of February and our shower made a God-awful noise, turned out it was the tub diverter not going up all the way, so I just pushed it up and then all was fine. It sounded just like in this video. I loved the room, the bed was so comfortable and the shower was nice and hot! Our room overlooked the pool which I liked. Best video poker in Vegas according to many, lots of locals and pros play VP there.
Stayed at SouthPoint for a week in February for the MEX Mobile DJ Expo. It’s large but instinctive. Great buffet, lots of different food options throughout. Bowling alley, movie theater, tons to do. Quick Uber to Fremont and the Strip.
I enjoyed seeing them video you two. I know people who are VERY loyal to SP for various reasons like comps and they like the casino there, and basically go once a month, and now I see why. Haven’t been yet myself but I’d definitely consider it if I want to get off the strip.
We have been staying here for some years now and always return it’s got fab food choices a great pool area friendly staff and great bars we ❤it and are returning soon x
Coronado Steakhouse is great but the creme de la creme is Michael's. Mr. Gaughan has done an incredible job of making South Point an amazing destination.
Wow, I’m impressed. I thought it might be another Station type casino but this video peaks my interest in going for the South Point 400 package. My wife and I are considering the trip in October. Let me know if you two are going to be there,,,, I can talk cars with Mr. Ruby for hours.
You are at the bowling center. That area has 64 lanes. There is also the bowling plaza up near the rodeo arena with an additional 60 lanes. 124 total bowling lanes at the facility. Home of many large national bowling events!
I LOVE SOUTH POINT!!! rooms are great, lots of variety of food options with great prices!!! i do go for bowling tournaments and you only went to one bowling center, there is a bowling plaza back by the equestrian center that is better. i was a long time Boyd Gaming person because of Sam's Town, Gold Coast and Orleans but South Point is my first choice.
We stayed at the grandview next door to south point but we ate at the buffet there a lot, gambled there quite a bit, definitely an under rated hotel!! Good prices, good food and good vibes!!
South point was built in 2006 it kinda just stuck up on vegas and stayed low key. They have a really cool restaurant lounge at the top with views of the whole city that is pretty cool
