Got a lot of takes from the video so to clarify, this is about the base multiplayer direction and feel, and why Splatoon 3 won't feel the same as 2. However if you want more out of multiplayer besides this, that's more then fair and we have to see what else there is. And outside of that obviously Salmon Run and Singleplayer we have to learn more about too. There's nothing wrong with wanting more out of the game in any category, my point is more how improving a formula is more important then reinventing it. And I definitely think we have a lot more we need to see, but with what we have with just a few previews, it just looks fun.

Regarding your ending statements, I think the yearly franchise games have warped people’s expectations of a sequel. People now think that the same thing but better is a bad thing because COD ran the concept into the ground.

I just realized Squid roll/surge is the equivalent of a Dodge roll similar to what Kirby got in forgotten land, so if do them correctly, the Boss Fights in Splatoon 3 *could be INSANE* Hopefully they also take the Splatoon 1 Octavio and Octoshower approach of boss design by having more tricky terrain to navigate/hide around instead of the usual flat & round basic boss arena
@caramelgrace2156
@caramelgrace2156 2 года назад
Honestly I loved how S1 did octavio, he really felt like an actual threat where you had to watch almost every angle and also pay attention whilst navigating, it really felt like it threw everything it worked to teach you into one stage to truly test if you were paying attention. Meanwhile the fight in 2 is just kinda boring tbh, I had high expectations and was kinda just dropped to the ground when I saw the entirely flat arena, it wasn't much harder than the octoshower fight and I'd even go as far to say the octoshower may have been a bit harder.

It doesn't need to be like mario or zelda and completely change up the way it plays or change its style. But it also needs to stand out as a new game and show that it's better and newer than the sequel I have a feeling the splatoon series will end up having a problem of always having a, at first glance, "0.5 sequel" for the next instalment, when in reality it does make some great changes.

I feel like the more experience you have with Splatoon, the more interesting and excited one is for 3. To someone who hasn't experienced the various metas and how the games' ebb and flow go, it probably just looks the same. Personally I want to see if Chargers can hold a charge through a Squid Roll. There's just so much everyone has to test with the release patch, but I am excited. A little nervous for Splatlings though.

Ironically, I think people who buy the "newest" FIFA game every single year are the same people complaining that Splatoon 3 is Splatoon 2.5. Obviously yes, the core mechanics are similar to the previous two entries, but like you said, a sequel should be more about taking what worked from the last game and enhancing it to make it better (and fixing or not bringing over what didn't work). The movement options, and emphasis on a much faster-paced gameplay environment are really exciting to see, and the point that Ice made about chargers was spot on and makes you wonder what are other optimal kits are on the way for other backline weapons.

I think games like mario kart spoiled them for what a sequel is in nintendo. But hey breath of the wild 2 is not breath of the wild 1.5 right? Right? But in all seriousness if we do look at mk8 compared to mk7. The only real new thing besides the tracks was anti-gravity. Does that mean mk8 is actually 7.5? Cuz that is what they are arguing for splatoon 3 to me. Or atleast how it sounds like. What about smash 4.5? I mean ultimate...
@amiiboacid4785
@amiiboacid4785 2 года назад
Sequels that just build off their predecessor aren't inherently a bad thing. The classic example is Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. They reused the engine and assets to make another great experience with the same great basic gameplay. Now BotW 2 is doing the same thing. However, both of those examples were just one sequel. Splatoon 2 did it, and now Splatoon 3. But that means Splatoon 3 is still using the same base from the original Splatoon back in 2015, and it doesn't feel fresh anymore. The game hasn't evolved after two sequels, and that's a big issue.
@navrio
@navrio 2 года назад
Okay to counter the Mario Kart point, Mk8 not only looks drastically visually different from mk7, but also changed item balancing( items given depending on distance from first), returned bikes from wii, made some retro tracks pretty unrecognizable from their original games. If anything I'd argue the thing that they ended up emphasizing in Mk8 (anti gravity) became the least recognizable thing in that game. BotW 2 pretty much looks like BotW but Nintendo has done such a good job at marketing it as a new game. Link and the Master Sword getting a new look, new abilities that allow Link to stop time and go through surfaces. And focusing on a Hyrule in the Sky as opposed to on the ground. Not saying Splatoon 3 needs to look drastically different from Splatoon 2 but them looking almost identical and Nintendo doing a shit job at marketing the game makes it difficult to appreciate Splatoon 3 especially since it's been 5 years since Splatoon 2 released. Nevertheless, I'm excited about the story mode in 3. Hopefully Nintendo took notes from Octo Expansion which is one of my favorite DLCs for a game in a long time.
@Vulcanfaux
@Vulcanfaux 2 года назад
@@navrio that bit about mario kart was my point though, surface level they seem the same, but if you actually go into it you can see that they are very different even though the core is the same. I went back and played a little splatoon 1 for nostalgia and boy oh boy it feels way different when compared to 2. And from everything I seen about 3, it's also seems like it's going to feel like a very different game when compared to 1 and 2. And I'm sure we still only seen the surface stuff for splatoon 3. Visuals are whatever to me because good game is always good game regardless of if it's on a 3ds or ps5. Not that I'm worried anyways, nintendo for all the bs they do with marketing and some of their business decisions still consistently make some of the most fun games in the industry. I'm fine with their marketing barely improving but they really gotta get better on their business end.

@@amiiboacid4785 if you can describe any major change to the splatoon formula that doesnt sound like a crappy spinoff or reboot and ALSO doesnt sound like just a worse game, you will have surprised me sir. splatoon is a nearly perfect recipe; quite literally the only thing nintendo can do is add better ingredients. thats exactly what they're doing.

That's the difference between a single player game and a multi-player game. Botw 2 is fine having similar mechanics because everything else is different. Whereas most multi-player games don't need sequels since their priority is the multi-player aspect and sequels aren't needed if they aren't going to change alot of the core gameplay
@NunnyNugget

3:56 I think this is also as a side effect of Splatoon 3’s “flexible” special design. In past games, you had exclusively long range specials like sting ray and ink strike which forced you to retreat in order to use them without dying, as well as exclusively short range specials like kraken or splashdown that only really worked as a panic button on long range and slower weapons. In Splatoon 3, every single special seems to be tailored to work in all situations and none of them force you to back down. Killer Wail 5.1 and Triple Inkstrike do not restrict your movement at all like they would have in past games, Big Bubbler can be used selfishly and defensively or offensively in the middle of a battle to contest an area, and things such as the Zipcaster which usually would only be suited to close range weapons actually allow long ranges to reposition into advantageous positions since it mostly relies on ink consumption rather than lasting for a short duration. All of the specials have many different uses and applications which is brilliant imo, I don’t think there would be many if any special combos in this game which are terrible (like the sin of splashdown on Hydra)

The only thing I wanted for a while were gimmick stages, but seeing how the new specials will play out I think gimmick stages may even be too much to handle and so I've decided that I have no more complaints for Splat3. In fact, the one hope I had with a proper dramatic victory animation was specifically fulfilled, and I think us Splatfans can be confident that even if Nintendo doesn't hear every idea us fans have to offer, the game is at least in good hands. I've been stressing for sometime over whether Splat3 will live up to my expectations, and while this trailer wasn't as hype with new information, I've come to terms with my expectations and can finally relax knowing this truly will be the sequel we never had. Sorry for the wall of text lol.

I think the amount of changes we’re getting warrants the new game price tag. There’s enough already present that makes it stand out from Splatoon 2. Weapons have better kits (who wouldn’t want that), more movement options, NO returning specials from a technical standpoint, and some quality of life changes. If a sequel is so dramatically different from its predecessor then it runs the risk of being something that people don’t want and weren’t asking for. A GOOD sequel should always refine its current working formula first, and then build from that with new features. Trust me, I want to seen new game modes (8 ball, rocket chase, all that beta stuff) as much as the next person, and also maybe a new gameplay feature like a tourney mode, but if all I get is Splatoon in its most polished form, I’m fine with that too.

tbh, what'll make it splat 3 or the meme splat 2.5 will be the other modes in combination with its online modes. splatoon 1 and 2s specials are almost entirely different and the gameplay between the two are also different much like 3 will be, and they gave new weapons w different movement options [dualies] as well, but i believe the hero mode really solidified it as not being a big enough upgrade to justify it being called a sequel combined w its lack of content on launch. granted, i wasn't there for the swap over and don't know the full extent of it, though i know splatoon 2 was only considered good enough as a sequel later when it received plenty of updates w new stuff added. imo, if hero mode is just as bare bones [we know like 2 things about it and nothing else], and if salmon run remains the way its looking like rn [egg throw should really be in both there's no reason for it NOT to be other than gatekeeping it so that splat 3 SR is "better" and "different"] w just 1 or 2 maps and 3 new bosses and that's it then yeah. i can see why it'd be called splatoon 2.5. u can't really only focus on one aspect of the game even if it is the core aspect of it and then say it's different enough. personally i think w what we know abt next wave it shouldn't even be called "next wave" as if it's a new improved version of the mode. and regarding hero mode, after octo expansion they really need to step up their game for it. idk, ig i'm still salty nintendo has made us wait so long between teasers and then continue to give us practically no info outside subs and specials.
@RevolutionaryJoystick
@RevolutionaryJoystick 2 года назад
To be fair, what we have seen of Hero mode so far has definitely not been the same as 1 and 2. We have that weird fuzzy ink, our little buddy being able to eat the fuzzy ink, combined with what we've seen of supposedly scaling this giant rocket (that doesn't look like a regular level at all, its definitely something else), as well as the theory that Octavio isn't the bad guy this time around (and might even be on OUR side), it's shaping up to be pretty different from the previous hero modes. But, you also have to realize that hero mode *does* still have to fulfill one of its main purposes: to teach new players the basics of Splatoon, how to use its different mechanics, and how to master them. It's just contextualized in a story. This is why Octo expansion's difficulty was MUCH higher than the base hero mode, because they assumed that players who buy $30 DLC for the game are already fairly acquainted with the game's mechanics. It had the freedom to give us much, MUCH higher difficulty than base hero mode. But I do agree with Salmon Run, so far it's looking like its pretty samey, but we have to wait and see what's up with the Salmonzilla thing. If it's an entirely new "final wave" past the third wave, where we all fight one superboss, it would shake up the formula enough to warrant it being called "Next Wave" I feel. (Although I disagree about egg throw having no reason to be in Splatoon 2, that kind of thing isn't really a "quality of life" change, more of a brand new mechanic, that changes the gameplay on a basic level. Not being able to throw eggs in splatoon 2 was most definitely a deliberate design decision. these things don't just get forgotten in game development- I assure you all of this was considered) Plus, the multiplayer changes they've gone over are all excellent. That side of the game at least, is definitely different and new. You can't just patch a squid roll into Splatoon 2. This is the kind of stuff you need a new game for. The devs definitely know what they're doing, even if maybe the marketing team doesn't LOL TLDR; Other modes are important, and they do look like they're shaping up to be different from 1 and 2. We can't tell for sure until we see more/have it in our hands, but I'm pretty confident that the devs know what they're doing. Personally, I see it as a straight upgrade across the board, and warrants being a brand new game. I'm hyped!

The argument itself (Splatoon 3 is just 2.5) feels a little disingenuous considering how close Splat 2 was to Splat 1 at launch. I mean....it nearly copy pasted the base game story mode. On top of that, it seems really unfair to say that about Splat 3 considering all we've seen so far. There's A LOT already there that isn't in 2, from weapons to quality of life improvements. And we haven't even seem everything yet. People should wait for a Splatoon Direct before judging the game like this. And even if it is a little closer to 2 at launch.....just like 2, it will develop its own identity over time. It won't always be "2.5". Edit: TOTALLY agree with that final segment. Splat 3 isn't changing up everything....because it doesn't need to. Its taking what was good and is adding to it, any changes coming where it was necessary.

i think one of the more understated aspects of the changes this game is making (at least if they're sensible, if you can roll through a dynamo flick on reaction at release this mechanic is bullshit) is that by making things more aggressive, and making paint botting/special spam weaker in general, it indirectly makes many weapons stronger just because they have more opportunities to engage. even without more movement options i think stuff like rollers and blasters would really thrive here purely because there isn't a zap or flingza or whatever farming missiles and calling out wherever they're going every half minute obviously it's too early to assume anything, especially considering we don't have a lot of details, but squid roll seems like a pretty genius mechanic. you can't just nope out of a 1v1 by rolling away because the other player can roll after you, and in this case you'd be at a disadvantage to begin with because you rolled first. not to mention the obvious implications of buffing many kits on principle just because they needed a way to actually go somewhere if they can't immediately paint

I love the squid roll so much. I just really hope that there's a cooldown on it kinda like how smash punishes roll spamming, otherwise it could make the game super passive with people constantly disengaging from fights

Probably won't be more abusable than dualie rolls. Plus, if you try to disengage from a fight by squid rolling back or away, your opponent can squid roll forward/after you, so it's very much not a "free escape."

The thing is…. Because of previous Shooter games, like COD or Halo, or even some new-ish ones (like Overwatch) People expect the next game in the franchise to change, or for the new age shooters to bring tons more with each instalment. Yet even with the previous faults of the other games, people still liked them, and the gameplay aspects. Some don’t understand that all we really need is more quality of life features, more careful thoughts with specials, subs, and weapons, along with more for each little thing. Like salmon run needing more uses for earning stuff in a run.

to make splatoon 3 feel like it deserves to be its own title it really needs that 1 BREAK OUT feature. Like splatoon 2 had salmon run to entice people to buy it. Splatoon 3 just seems like more of the same imo. it just needs that one cherry on top

I'm not a competitive player in the slightest. My highest rank is a B in Zones, I've never touched League and don't really plan on doing so, and I'm only around level 45. That said, having nearly 400 hours in Splatoon 2, I feel the kind of player like me is a good middle ground between 'average Nintendo fan' who plays most Nintendo games for a fair chunk of time and might play a Splatfest every now and then or check out a new update, and the 'hardcore Splatoon fan' who could have 1000 hours in Splatoon 2 easily and is competitive or just has a lot of experience with the game. My position is that I consider myself a part of the Splatoon community, but I don't play Splatoon as much as others (although I still play more than I probably should). From this standpoint, Splatoon 3 looks great. It's more Splatoon which I love, and all of the changes make it seem like an overhaul of Splatoon 2, which is probably better than a complete change in the formula since Splatoon 2 is already such a great game. It's more than enough to warrant a sequel, and if people think it deserves to be a DLC, how about that rumored 3D Mario? What if it's an Odyssey sequel? What if it's a Mario Galaxy 2 port? What if it's a Bowser's Fury type game? In any of those cases, they could all be DLC for their original games. Mario Galaxy 2 could be DLC with a rerelease of 3D All Stars, Odyssey could get DLC at any time, and who says they can't make Bowser's Fury a bigger game with more worlds similar to that and make it a standalone game for $30-$40? That would effectively be DLC. And yet no one would complain, at least I'd guess that no one would really complain other than the Nintendo 'fans' who hate everything Nintendo does and have hated everything Nintendo has done since before Iwata and yet claims to be a fan. It's dumb, and unwarranted since if you watch a single 8 minute video like this one, you can see that this game has enough changes that it isn't realistic to think it could be a DLC.

I started with splatoon 2 one year after it's release and loved it. It was like a daily thing I play every day since it was my first switch game. I recently got a wii u and decided to check out splatoon 1 since it was quite cheap just to compare it to splatoon 2 and it's obviously similar but it does have a lot of different things that changes your experience with it. The specials, setting, characters, subs and weapons are the things that are different in both games. With both entries it feels like you're living a second life because of how the game is designed. Wauting for updates for new gear, weapons, battle modes, splatfest and story dlc allows the game to stay relevant and enjoyable for a long time. If they changed this formula just for the sake of change they would lose the games charm. Right now they should be focusing on perfecting this promising formula as it has a lot of small flaws that could be fixed. They can add things like salmon run as additional modes but they shouldn't abandon old ones. With splatoon 3 I am hoping to begin a new long lasting experience that mixes fresh and good ideas with the good old system.

Honestly, complaining about Splatoon 3 being too similar to Splatoon 2 is hypocritical to me cause the only people I know who says that, are also the same people who like Mario Galaxy 2 or are hyped about Breath of the wild 2, both of which are games that was just originally going to be DLC but got too big and got turned into a sequel instead. Plus, you don't wanna make a sequel that takes away everything that make the originally so beloved in the first place. Mario 2 USA and Zelda 2 Adventure of Link were not liked by many people back in the day exactly because they were so different compare to what came before.

The problem is that Splatoon 2 already did the same thing with Splatoon 1, and now is doing it again. If Mario Galaxy 2 had a sequel that had the same amount of differences going from the original to 2, then that would be really stale. I still believe the original is better than MG2 because it's unique. It was fine that Splatoon 2 just enhanced the original Splatoon, but now it needs to move on.

I’m most certainly going to get it, I got into splatoon again in general cuz of chuggaconroy, and I agree that this one might be the most fun one at least at higher levels, but I really do think still people would be more warmly receptive to it if it introduced things that people that aren’t into splatoon would be interested in. The modern kirby games for instance I’d argue each is more fun than the last up until star allies. The problem however is that a new locale or replacements for old stuff wasn’t enough to entice people that either weren’t kibry fans or even worse, disappointing existing fans that thought the series would evolve at a quicker rate. It leads to a disproportionate number of people that appreciate Kirby as a cute icon, and people that appreciate Kirby as a franchise. With the switch spinoff rereleases in particular it felt like only hardcore fans really play his games nowadays. That was of course until Forgotten Land where a Kirby *game* was arguably contested with Elden Ring as a highly anticipated triple a game. You’re most likely aware of a good bit of this, like how you expressed your views on Splatoon’s marketing, but I do believe even if they were more clear on advertising the squid roll or the squid surge, there’s alot more to be done, especially without the console change . It doesn’t matter to me, but I’d still 100% emphasize with others that aren’t quite sold on it still

Like charger, roller also used to have issues helping in team fights and its special should help a lot with that. The main issue the roller has in team fights is that it's hard to be stealthy in those. However, if you use Big Bubbler on your teammates, they'll be a big distraction so you can go off to do roller things. It's a win-win situation!

One thing I’d really like to see splatoon 3 do is add turf wars into competitive. It’s meta is so different from every other comp mode that balancing one means unbalancing the other, and putting the two metas in closer proximity might help with balancing overall.

With me, it’s probably because I’m a massive Splatoon fan already, but I fully believe that Splatoon 3 is and always has been going in the right direction from the very beginning. Enough stuff has been shown off already warrant it being called Splatoon 3. We got new stages, new weapons, new specials, a new and exciting looking story mode, and not to mention Salmon Run which looks like it’s going to be more interesting this time around. For some reason it gets on my nerves when I see people saying that Splatoon 3 is like Nintendo’s Call of Duty or say it’s Splatoon 2.5. Like there is everything there to warrant it being new and it being called Splatoon 3, and not whatever they thought of to call it for some reason. I have no problems with any of it and I am way more than excited for the game to come out in September.

one thing not pointed out in the video which is something nintendo has been doing with their recent releases is just how little they show off until release of their upcoming games. and splatoon 3 has had less than 20 minutes off footage shown off for it, so i’m not sure how less than 20 minutes equates to a “bad game” already. this games been in the oven for around 5 years, so i have no doubt that the team is putting in the effort.

Been a long time fan of the Dualie Squelchers right because they have so much flexibilty with their movement options. You can easily advance/book it in enemy turf. With the way the Squid Roll and Surge in Splatoon 3 seem to encourage more daring pushes during a match, I think I'll feel more compelled to try other weapons and find new mains! And hopefully my favorite mode, Splat zones, gets to be way more of a hectic tug-of-war instead of what currently is now. I don't mind playing defensively (in fact I'm one of those CDS players that plays the spacing game and isn't that much aggressive) but it does get boring after a while.

I'm happy to see that Splatlands are definitely more thoughtful than Inkopolis (yes I like to say it that way) since there is so much more stuff going on that makes the game just more playable for starters AND veterans For example: you HAVE to move in the battle. That's such a great feeling knowing charger mains will have to move much more than usually. It just gives everyone an equal chance Tbh. The squid roll is exactly what I've been wanting for YEARS since I've been doing it already even before it was a thing but.. obviously not in the same way as it is now. So THIS is a major upgrade and I'm really thankful for it.

Splatoon 2 had salmon run, with splatoon 3 I don’t have anything to be excited about, just some new mode (maybe arcade mode with clam blitz, deathmatch, solo death match, etc) maybe a new large scale mode like salmon run, maybe co op campaign, etc. the game looks great and I look forward to playing it, but I’m not excited

One thing that I hope for is that squid roll and squid surge don't become useless as the meta progresses. If they are linear enough to the point where they can be easily predicted/learned and reacted to, I think that would really suck. Here's hoping that roll is omnidirectional and that squid surge can be leapt out of at different times.

I'm gonna be honest when it comes to the gameplay of Splatoon they have something great but there are a few wrinkles they have to iron out which it looks like they are doing in 3. They even added squid roll and surge to this already great gameplay to freshen it up and give you some more options of movement. The quality of life is where I think this game needs the most work. I can't enter a match without seeing the stages on the lobby screen so let me skip the dang news. If I'm playing a game with friends I should be able to play on a team with them in any mode so turf war needs something that lets me play on a team with my friends. I shouldn't have to wait till level 10 with a B rank to play ranked with them either. The gear system while I think has a ok layout needs to let you use money in stead of super sea snails if you don't have any super sea snails. There needs to be more things integrated with gameplay to do with money in general because it piles up and you will probably never run out after you buy all the weapons and gear (maybe things like buyable drink/meal tickets) There is probably more I haven't listed.

Mechanically this is going to be the best Splatoon game, although I’m a little iffy on the art direction. There’s significantly less stickers around, little to no spray-paint marks anywhere, I was just expecting something a little more wild like the team Chaos logo on the splatocalypse final splatfest. I’m looking for run-down and wildly unregulated, not just run-down.

a series should only ever seriously consider reinventing the wheel if the series has a clear PEAK and starts failing to uphold that standard continuously. splatoon is effortlessly climbing upward, there is no reason to experiment while the main formula has obvious room for improvement. something tells me splatoon 3 will be that one game splatoon fans remember above all the others, like Mario 3, Sonic 3&K, Zelda LttP... huh. a lot of games sure do hit homeruns on the 3rd try.

The only ick I have, maybe it’s better than it seems but I don’t like how the point sensor has now become a point laser that feels hard to hit and barely lasts at all after thrown. I liked how Splatoon 2 made it last a little longer but still kept the area effect because it’s easier I think to hit an AOE shot than a hit point. Point sensor already was a weak sub and now it feels weaker.

I don’t completely get the argument that splatoon needs to have big changes to it, now correct me if I’m wrong but smash bros never really has big changes throughout its series besides characters (which you could compare to weapons in splatoon) and stages. There are minor things over time but nothing game shattering, splatoon has a good formula and I think the stuff they are adding in 3 will be good and would be amazing if they make the online better with servers

One argument that I see frequently tossed around is "the graphics look too similar" yeah, it's the same console. I don't know how you'd expect nintendo to make major improvements upon the graphics. Even if they did decide to do that, the game's files would be absolutely massive. The graphics already look fine in the first place, too. Besides, from what we've seen, the graphics look gorgeous. Another argument I've seen a lot is "the game is coming out too soon" or "splatoon should be a launch title, not a constantly updating franchise!" splatoon 1 was not a release title. Splatoon 2 came out 2 years after splatoon 1. Splatoon 3 is coming out 5 years after Splatoon 2, which is way longer than other series. Many critics are just jumping to conclusions way too early, especially considering how little nintendo has shown us from the games. The worst argument I've seen by far is "It's the same code. Nintendo could just update Splatoon 2." No, they couldn't. They need to pay their employees. There is literally no reason why Nintendo should release Splatoon 3 as an update rather than a sequel. Specials are being reworked, tons of new clothing is being added, tons of new character customization is being added, Salmon Run is being changed, there's a new story to play through in story mode, new maps are being added, new weapons are being added, and they gave the characters A PROPER SELECTION OF PANTS. All in all, I think that Nintendo is perfectly justified to release Splatoon 3 when they've chosen to. Fans asking for an update instead are entitled idiots with no experience in game development, and I'm excited for Splatoon 3

I will see how the singleplayer is to see how much of a difference Splatoon 3 will make for me. For me personally I think Splatoon 3 should be an open world game. While often people say Splatoon is a multiplayer game doesn't mean it cannot have a good singleplayer. And for this time it would be more then just perfect. It is basically the same graphic, the concept and most designs are already available and therefor a lot of time can be spend on Singleplayer expansion. Not to forget Multiplayer maps will most likely come out over the first year after release, so there is even more time for singleplayer content. And it would just fit perfectly. From the art I see about splatoon a lot of people seem to be loving the idea of what happens outside the turf war scene. We never really see that. not even the manga, which is completely restricted to the game itself (and was a disappointing adventure for me personally). Just let that thought sink in: You go into open world, see yourself at the reef after you finished a side mission for kensa or annaki and get special gear or maybe even a weapon variation as a reward. You have an awesome setting, awesome lore, many characters, potential to show so much more of the world. This game deserves an open world like title.

There's definitely room for improvement I think, there always is- but what I personally want in splatoon is just polish, I think the core gameplay is perfect, it needs refining. As an analogy for how I see it: Splatoon 1 was a rough diamond but showed promise, splatoon 2 refined it more, and I think splatoon 3 is trying to polish that diamond. And I think this is the perfect way to handle a sequel for Splatoon, at least personally.

I didn't hate the power of Splatoon 1's specials from a casual perspective at least. There was a moment where I wiped a whole team near the very beginning of Tower Control on Arowanna Mall with a well placed Killer Wail, which lead to what was pretty much an instant steamroll. Extremely punishing but not free and easy on my part, it was more so a fluke and on a ranked ladder where a single game doesn't matter as much it definitely added more to my experience than it took away from my opponents. And I suppose total invulnerability, lack of counter play, and other such issues don't have a place in special design, but I definitely want specials that feel more fun to use, more impactful, and more rewarding than splatoon 2s. In that game getting a special didn't feel too fun. You either saved it as a get out of jail free card or just used it cause it made sense to. Also, something very small that bugged me about splatoon 2, I could not get the sensitivity I needed out of the motion controls for handheld. Basically as someone who played in both versions and liked having max sensitivity even while docked and using joycons, when swapping to handheld my ability to aim how I wanted was hindered. Quickly turning to snap with my squiffer wasn't really possible. And what caused this was actually the width of my grip increasing, meaning to get the same rotation of my controller I had to move everything more. So I would like to see a higher cap on sensitivity at least for handheld mode, or built in compensation for that change in turning angle.
