Everything about that was flawless. The guitar tech noticed, brought out the guitar, the sound engineer mutes perfectly for the 1/4" cord to be unplugged and lugged back in and you didn't even notice it.
I know right ! Auh I was hoping to hear what they would have had to say about that but since they didn’t catch it : NO COMMENT and oh what smooth transition he had switching guitars. But since they didn’t notice ;NO COMMENT : Auh shucks and I was hoping they would have caught it;
And when they watched Jimi playing with his teeth & tongue, they refused to believe it, claiming that someone offstage was actually playing. (Which they do fess up about here, to their credit.)
This performance was great not because of his playing but because how he improvised through the string breaking AND a guitar swap mid solo. Thats like a nascar driver experiencing engine failure getting to the pit and jumping into another moving car and getting back into the race. Special shout out and recognition to his guitar tech. His professionalism did not go unnoticed.👍🏽
What's crazy is around 4:35 you can see he broke a string on his guitar, but still kept it going seamlessly even with a BROKEN GUITAR! Super talented! That's why he swaps guitars later
Not only is it the smoothest guitar switch ever, but a broken string screws your tuning, but Stevie was good enough to bend the strings, keeping it in tune until the changeover.
There’s a video of Jonny Lang singing Lie to Me where he changes guitars in the middle of the song because of that reason also. Or BB King changing a guitar string during the song while singing on. Masters of their craft!

Stevie Ray, a guitar magician. 13 gauge strings, plays both rhythm and lead simultaneously, AND has a killer singing voice. Thank you for all the great music, SRV. Gone way too young. Rest in Peace, Stevie.
SRV could not read sheet music, self-taught, he learned by listening to a song being played and could begin playing it before it usually finished playing, in his own way, of course.

I've never seen anyone play live as good as SVR did. Dude was nearly flawless. He was an absolute monster in the live performance of "life without you".
Y'all gotta check out SRV's "Texas Flood" live @ the El Mocambo show. Probably one of his greatest performances ever, definitely his greatest show alongside Austin. Other-worldly.

I hope you read this, I’m 61 yrs old and come across you guys giving reactions to the artist I grew up on , and it makes my heart happy to see the pure enjoyment on your faces when you discover someone great. I loved Elvis’s review , but you guys seeing Chuck Berry the first time cracked me up. Keep it up guys you are ALL awesome.
Yes. Yes, he is. I’m always happy when you guys go old school. Great reaction! I love Stevie, Jimmy, Eddie, and a host of others but no one gets it like Stevie did. And he played behind his back and with his teeth as well. RIP Rock Gods
@@Kickinthescience I’m extremely partial to Stevie but Prince was a genius that I still rock, and a heavily underrated guitarist. Just a completely different style and feel. Wow, I really miss them, but I’m so grateful they left a rich legacy behind.
Stevie plays 3 or 4 Hendrix songs. Voodoo Child, Little Wing, Third Stone From the Sun and Castles Made of Sand. They're both great players. It's like choosing between apples and oranges.

@@FreedomFighter2112 I strongly disagree. You are crossing influence with pure structural talent. Jimi, Clapton, BB had more influence than Stevie, but even Clapton & BB said SRV was like an open channel like they had never seen.
You have had some great guitarists guys but may I suggest another one by the name of Jeff Healey. He was a Canadian guitarist who was blind but he definitely had a gift. He and Stevie Ray Vaughan performed together. If you can find the video, check out his song "See The Light" where he performs live. It will blow your mind.
Stevie Ray is one of my personal favorites, a consummate blues man and a technical genius. A great way to get a good look at them both is to check out their live versions of Voodoo Chile. Jimi wrote it and after he passed, Stevie Ray was the only one Jimi's father would approve to cover the song.

@@FreedomFighter2112 Those are some great guitarists. Most would have Eddie Van Halen higher on that list and although he is great, I dont think you can put Santana as #2 unless youre saying this is your personal favorites and not an objective list. Plus no Jeff Beck, Les Paul or Prince? Id also put Joe Satriani and Mark Knopfler on there as well.
SRV is definitely the greatest. I had the privilege to meet him a couple of times before he really got big. One of the nicest most humble people you could meet. I have a story Ill share later. Check out Texas Flood live at the Macombo you will see why we say he is the greatest. He could do anything Hendrix could do. In fact Hendrix was one of his idols. He is truly a legend here in Texas. Texas Blues at its best. Another great song is Pride and Joy. Eric Clapton once said that the only person that could make him put his guitar down and quit would be Stevie. So glad you guys are checking him out. I really miss him. RIP Stevie.
Eric Clapton talked about how while he's playing, he's always thinking about where his fingers are going next, but Stevie just let all those notes flow out of him effortlessly. Legend.
Here as a guitar player and student, listen guys, Jimmy Hendrix essentially invented the distorted guitar, transitioning the genre of rock from plain acoustics to harder metal. He basically influenced all your favorite guitar players you mention. He may not be the best skillfully, but as a pioneer of rock music guitar, SRV can have that title, Jimmy Hendrix is a true legend and deserves his respect a the one of the most soulful ever. No one could express their emotions through guitar notes like him, listen to his performance at Woodstock Star Spangled banner 🇺🇸
Yep, every guitar player will cred Hendrix with his innovative and creative use of distortion, feedback, but SRV took that knowledge to a different level.
So I'm a 52year old white guy who mostly Grew up metal but I listen to rap a little bit more than what I used to. Your channel is in my top 10 channels of favorite reaction channels to watch. You guys always bring a fun attitude and Good vibes.
There’s no way to ever say who is the best… Every one of the guitar players you guys mentioned are in the group that is the best. When you get up to that top-tier it’s just a matter of taste how you narrow down which one you think is the greatest.

Listen to the studio of SRV cover of Jimmy's little wing. Hendrix was smiling from above as he heard Stevie play his song like nobody else could. SRV was incredible. Saw about a year before he died and didn't realize how blessed I was to see one of the best ever work his magic with 6 strings and a voice.
You should take a look at Stevie playing with Buddy Guy on Buddy Guy's birthday. It's great and they're both two of the best guitar players of all time.
yall gotta see Prince play the guitar, he was definitely goat status. The song below is arguably one of the best solos of all time. Prince literally making his guitar weep. Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and others -- "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
@@gracieb.3054 He's not the only one who thinks that way. I don't think Prince was anywhere NEAR goat status and his name should not be mentioned in the same breath as SRV, the actual GOAT.
Whenever someone mentions Prince's guitar skills, all they talk about is this ONE performance of WMGGW. That's it. That's not ability, that's showing off.
Hendricks was Rock roll, Stevie Ray is blues, but Stevie loved Jimmy. They were both powerhouse in their days and they're both up in heaven playing together
If you want to see another top 5 legendary guitar performance watch Price and Tom Petty performance of 'My guitar gently weeps' at the rock hall of fame. Then watch the prince halftime show and see where Prince stands in your book.
One of Stevie Ray's friends, Canadian guitarist Jeff Healey is definitely worth checking out too - See the Light (live) :) Stevie greatly admired Jimi as well as played with Blues greats like Albert King :) All amazing players...Jimi's sound was innovative and more rock than blues.

You picked the tamer Little Sister to watch. Stevie's live performance "Look At Little Sister" with Jeff Healy is like watching a planet being created. Then, SRV's performance of Texas Flood Live at El Mocambo where he plays behind his back is crazy good. Rating the two (Hendrix) against each other is hard because Hendrix innovated and then influenced, so Vaughn had the base technique to build upon.
He broke a string. You could see it whipping around there and he played right through the solo then swapped guitars and never missed a beat. He plays a cover of Voodoo Chile you should watch him do it.
YOU GUYS HAVE GOT TO LISTEN TO THE BAND CALLED “DEATH”. Not the new metal band, but the 1970s band of the same name that comprised of some African American brothers from Detroit, I believe..They played some really amazing rock and the sound was ahead of it’s time. They never made it big, but they made an actual record, only less than 500 maybe. Not very many. But YEARS later they were discovered by rare record enthusiasts. Someone uploaded the record called Death, and now they play concerts together again! It’s a sad story how they came to be a band. Their father died and it really took a toll on the family. So their outlet was Death. Listen to Freakin’ Out (about an acid trip) or Keep On Knockin’. PLEASE listen to this band. They fucking slap!!! I can help you guys listen to stuff that’s great and worth your time. Some artists have one good hit and everything else is trash. Also live versions of most songs aren’t good to listen to for the first time.
I love watching you guys react to guys that can really play. All the guys that you are mentioning were great in their own way, but then Stevie came along, he took it to a different level. What E.C. said about Stevie was " he's an open channel and music just flows out, after seeing him for the first time he makes people want to take up guitar and he makes people that are accomplished and have jammed with him want to quit playing!
This was the concert at Austin City Limits when he was showcasing the last album "In Step", before his death. What's most tragic about his death is that he completely changed his life around and beat his addiction to drugs and alcohol which almost killed him. His alcohol addiction was so bad at one point that he would drink a full bottle of Crown just before going out to play, he couldn't play without it. Luckily he got the help he needed and had a new lease on life but died in a helicopter crash in Alpine Valley Wisconsin. He was taken from us way too early. RIP Stevie.
Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Brian May, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan etc. a lots of real talented legend. But JEFF BECK R.I.P🕊 who died a few days ago, was the guitarist of guitarist's. I'm not saying this, it's the legends listed before me that called him that. Listen and hear why! Anyway all of them just insanly incredible, it's a matter of mood and taste. ✌EDIT: SRV's best performance is 'Texas Flood' simply dope! 💯
You guys have to react to srv “Texas flood” or “little wing” both live versions to see his guitar skills. He’s def in conversation for the goat. My personal favorite for sure.

So many guitarists stand on Jimi's shoulders and many others' shoulders. Jimi stood on the shoulders of those before him too. Stevie knows it. The Hendrix family is notoriously strict about Jimi's estate, but they gave Stevie the blessing to play his music and they even gave him some of Jimi's equipment to use. I also recommend watching the videos of Stevie jamming with Albert King (Blues legend).
Yes the Hendrix estate is very strict about how Jimi's "brand" is being used however it has absolutely nothing to do with that man's legacy, it's all about the all mighty greenback to them. As far as them giving SRV their blessings or giving SRV some of Jimi's equipment to use isn't true. SRV was perfecting Jimi's music long before Jimi's brand was trademarked & they gained full control of his estate. As far as the equipment you're referring to.... yes SRV had a wah wah pedal that Hendrix used bit it was purchased at an auction by Jimmy Vaughn (SRVs older brother) & given to SRV & had to be completely reworked & only the shell is original
@wolfganghumboldt4830 It's really a damn shame that whoever is in charge of the Hendrix estate is so greedy. There's a wealth of Hendrix material they have. They're all about making every last dime they can & don't get me wrong, what they have in my opinion is beyond priceless but this isn't the way Jimi would've wanted things. This was fairly recently (few yrs) that they pulled this stunt, long after SRV was killed. I'm not sure what the implications are covering another artist music but I think if SRV was still alive he would've done it anyways lol
I love the fact that you guys are having these discussions. Brings me back to when I was a kid sitting with friends arguing about which band or musician was better.
Other SRV videos: . Life Without You (live with the Texas Flag in the backdrop) . Tin Pan Alley (live with Copeland) . Riviera Paradise . Lenny . Voodoo Chile . SRV and Jeff Healy duet . Session with Albert King in Canada. (Lengthy video) 🕶️🇵🇬🧡💙🎸🔥🇺🇸
They were both genius and innovators during their short time's with us. I love them both and I don't really think I would list one better than the other as they have different styles and different sounds. Listen, enjoy and appreciate. Another great guitarist to add to your list should be Jeff Healey. One of the most brilliant artists ever.
I don't like that label "best guitarist" because there's a lot of greats, just different styles. To me, SVR is one of the greats. He may not be a shredder like an EVH or Steve Vai, nor be as technical, but you will NEVER see anyone with more passion and creativity. One of the all time greats.
Dirty mac - yer blues. From the Rolling Stones rock and roll circus. It's John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones members and Mitch Mitchell(Jimi Hendrix drummer) its awesome one of the best solos from Clapton! 👌❤️
CF...if you haven't reacted to Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple), then you're missing out on another guitar great. There's some guitar solo vids of him out there but maybe check out Deep Purple's "Highway Star" video first (the one with 60M views).
Stevie Ray's favorite guitarist was Jimi Hendrix! He was also inspired by Albert King, B.B. King, Johnny Copeland, Eric Clapton, and Duane Allman. But I have to say, just as the Cartier brother in the white shirt said before, SRV has his own soul! When I get to Heaven someday, I'm going to ask my Lord Jesus, before He escorts me to my mansion, if He would mind if we made a stop at Stevie Ray Vaughan's place first. I want to meet that legenary man! Love all your reactions to SRV. You all crack me up!
Y'all should do Prince's lead at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For context he didn't get in Rolling Stone's Top 100 guitarists of all time list despite being.... well, Prince. So this was his clap back at them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dWRCooFKk3c.html
You guys are silly....but I worked with 2 close friends who I totally respected musically...we lived together for almost a year in a hotel (the suite...but it sucked) so one night we debated who is the best guitarist of all time. Mine was Stevie Ray (because I am the smartest) my boss loved Eddie Van Halen...and Coupe Lavelle loved Jimmy....the point is that this is a perpetual question that will never be solved...love them all. Because they actually loved eachother.
Jim I & Stevie Ray are both top guitarist that died way too soon. I don’t know if anyone mentioned, but the Jimi played his guitar upside-down. He had a right hand Stratocaster, but Jimi was left handed. So he flipped the guitar over. Stevie Ray would go out and play all night in clubs leaning from the best, like Albert King/Buddy Guy. Then go to high school in the morning. He was notorious for playing until blisters took off the skin on his hands, he’d just superglue the skin back on and keep playing. The were both generational talents.
You guys are having the same argument we used to have when I was in high school in the 70s - Who's better? Jimi, Stevie Ray, or Van Halen? Don't have to chose one, I love them all!!
Even if the lyrics sometimes "disappear" (become unintelligible), the musical performance is so strong it keeps your attention and body beat continues to roll on. Did you catch the string breaking around 4:40? What a smooth transfer to the replacement guitar.
Texas Flood Live at the El Macombo, by Stevie Ray Vaughan, brothers. The man plays the guitar BEHIND HIS BACK and solos. Just amazing playing from note 1.
Guys, Jimi’s playing transitioned the rock guitar from a support instrument into a solo instrument. Stevie acknowledged that. He also was flamboyant like setting his guitar on fire at Woodstock. But Jimi’ skills were not as developed. Wonder what he would have done had he lived. SRV is absolutely Blues and had incredible skills which he developed over his life. Again, what he could have done if he had not died. I was 2 feet away from him at an outdoor concert in 1983. First time I’d ever seen or heard anything like him. I’m so grateful. ❤️
As a 60 year old white lady, I'm delighted to watch five young African-American gentlemen discuss who's better, Hendrix v. Vaughn. It gives me hope for the musical future. Love you guys!
