Is Super Saiyan Blue a Good or Bad Transformation?

​@@LazypackmuleIt has 3 of those actually. Backstory -It's the first and only instance of combining transformations. Super Saiyan+Super Saiyan God. I would say that alone is more interesting than Super Saiyan 2 and 3's "backstory". Purpose-Same as every other transformation in Dragon Ball. It's a power up. If Goku has access to a form that's 50x stronger than his previous strongest form then of course he's going to use it. And considering the form is powerful enough to damage and knock down a fused god on it's own, I would say it serves it's purpose. Symbolism-The colour Blue is acquainted with "serenity and tranquility". Which reflects how Blue is about keeping your energy calm and tranquil. It also usually symbolises "An individual's spiritual connection to the divine or higher power". Design is up to opinions but Super Saiyan 3 and Ultimate don't have personal connections to anyone. And a transformation(especially a Dragon Ball transformation)doesn't NEED a personal connection to be good.

@@danieljuries9473 1. that is not a backstory, that is an explanation- and not a particularly interesting one considering that both forms accomplish the same goal so the combination of the two doesn't amount to anything 2. it is literally meaningless to the story, it exists just to exist and the plot would be literally unchanged if it were removed 3. tranquility is not relevant to the story or how the form is used whatsoever 4. a personal connection helps immensely, and gives the form more grounding in the story. 3 and ultimate are introduced in such a way as to tell us something about the characters

@@Lazypackmule 1-The difference? If by backstory you mean the history a form has,then it's almost impossible to give Blue one because of how it's made. It's a hybrid transformation that didn't exist before Goku and Vegeta obtained it. By this logic,Super Saiyan 2, 3 and Ultimate. What are their backstories? 2-Like I said, it's a power boost. Against the enemies they were fighting in Super, God wouldn't have been strong enough. Hit,Black and Zamasu,Fused Zamasu, Jiren,and Broly. They were already getting mopped when they used Blue against these guys. Imagine how worse it would've been if they used a form that was 50x weaker than Blue. 3-Whis:I've noticed a problem boys! You're both allowing your heightened energy to leak out. You must keep it within your body to maximize your power. Goku:Super Saiyan Blue is all about power through extreme control. Akira Toriyama:I made his hair light blue to express how "by overcoming a certain limit he has become both strong and tranquil,able to keep his composure in a fight". Keeping your energy controlled is half of how Super Saiyan Blue works. 4-What do those form's introductions tell us about the characters? Super Saiyan 3 comes out of knowhere and Gohan sits down for awhile and gets Ultimate. In terms of personal connections:Super Saiyan-Yes, Super Saiyan 2-Bit of a stretch but yeah I guess, Super Saiyan 3-No not at all, Ultimate-No not at all, Super Saiyan 4-It has a connection to Saiyan history but not a personal connection to Goku or Vegeta, Super Saiyan God-Sort of. The main thing was supposed to be that Goku didn't like the fact that he didn't get the power by himself. Super Saiyan Blue-No, Blue Evolution-Yes, Ultra Instinct-Yes. One thing to notice from these is that the 3 forms that don't have personal connections to the characters are the ones that were unlocked through training and not during the fight.

Even then, the anime retcons it as just being a sidegrade- only to then not use it for more than one fight It was so funny when they brought it back, too. Shit was so boring that they had to bust out an old form that they stopped using as if it was a brand new form being shockingly revealed for the first time

It's boring, and comes out in a crappy story, and is then used as the default state of the characters for basically half the series at this point A better example of this is how the manga is building up ultra instinct with all of goku's previous forms, or how GT combined super saiyan with the great ape, or even how the anime used kaioken with blue for a surprising and memorable callback rather than just "this is cool but we need to shove some more super saiyan in there somehow"

Just read the manga and ignore the anime

@@FEdelasJONS ehhhh I also wouldn't agree there. At best it's a 7.5/10. I mean, Goku and other characters are treated better and are close to their DBZ versions, but it does have a bit flaws as well. There are bits and pieces wrong with the Gokj Black saga: mostly just inconsistencies. In the TOP Saga, while Jiren is given more character and personality, it is a bit of a bore. Moro and Granolah Sagas are pretty great, but like I said, there are some minor flaws. The same can be said about the whole Super Hero Saga

Completely agree. It's kinda nice that Gohan unlocks his Super Saiyan transformation during training, but I don't recall many more examples of something like that. And in Ben 10, in the beginning there would be moments where Ben would try to understand what this or that new alien transformation could do, but later on he would just show up with a new alien who he clearly already knew for a while and knew how to use. Clearly it was for animation and storytelling economy, not showing the same kind of moments over and over again, but without those alien introduction scenes, the show somehow felt a little more empty. Too much action, not enough character introspection or development. There was that, but probably not all the times it would suit well with the episode or season.

@@TiagoMonteiroArt Naurto's rasengan training doesn't get enough credit for building up to Naruto learning his signature move. (1) During the training Naurto had to go through stages (2) At first he didn't know the name of the technique he was learning (3) The technique has personal history with other characters (4) The first time Naurto did the technique in combat wasn't when when he was fighting a villain. All these things helped proved the rasengan is a technique worth learning and that Naurto earned the right to have this technique. If Jiraiya just said to Naruto he will teach him a new technique and we only get to see flashbacks of everyting that involved the rasengan it would make the technique feel like an ex machina. If a character is going to debut a new ability turning battle then a writer should give an auidence enough hints to guess what the training will be about or just tell tell them what the character will learn.

I mean, yeah it's way more meaningful if it has a 'moment' There's a reason people like super saiyan 3 despite it being fuck ugly and also literally achieved off-screen by a dead character, and also Ultra Ego for getting the same treatment

@@charactersin-depth3472 Probably... He was fused for a while prior to going Blue, but i don't think the timer got affected by it since it was just Base Gogeta & Super Gogeta... Blue probably burned him out a bit.

@@BardockSkywalker When you think about it, shouldn't Gogeta have defused a lot sooner than Vegito given the 30 min vs 1 hr?

@charactersin-depth3472 I think it's because Vegito used Blue all throughout the fusion, as opposed to Gogeta, who only used it at the end. That's my theory, anyways
