You are the first person to say it might be more about all these tortured artists that she’s dated - I’m hoping for an introspective album focussed on her trying to figure out why she kept on dating these tortured artist types and why she seemed to want their approval. Maybe she finally figured it out and that might be why she is now dating Travis - she realised and healed whatever it was that kept her coming back to these men that generally did not treat her well and based on many of her songs (even happy love songs) created a sense of anxiety in her.

this was really illuminating! I personally believe that both Taylor and Joe are the tortured poets (I think people aren't focusing enough on the word being plural) since they did write sad songs together and both struggled with mental health issues (based on what we know from songs like peace, Renegade, You're Losing Me)

I think it's interesting because it seems academic and it kinda seems like an english department type of deal (especially with the ties to Dead Poets Society) BuT, at the same time, the branding is about "files" and her entering things into evidence almost like a police department detective...

i forgot about that jack's verse 👀 he gave so many signs and we didn't even see the signs because we didn't have context to what was happening. he's best friends with taylor, so it's not a wonder that he's probably seen her and joe's relationship up-close, and he decided to be messy by dropping his anti hero verse like he dropped that ig story 😂 (allegedly. all of this is allegedly) also girl we missed youuu 💙💙💙

we are the tortured poets. I will die on this hill. we analyze the crap out of her songs and we learn and share experiences. She is the teacher and we are her students. like any university has a theater deparment, an art department, a music department and any other majors a college carries. and along other lines; I say two words"New Romantics" period end of story mic drop we swim in her misery and our own. in my opinion a department is much more respectable than a club. Joe might have a club but Taylor has a department. it's an Ivory Tower sort of thing.

This is my second album experience since being a swiftie and I cannot wait for April 19, 2024 at 12:00am and go to school the send day and stream it, then go to work and stream it.

I understand the “tortured” language reference to Joe’s group but it also makes sense that the “department” could be Big Records Machine and how “tortured” artists are in the machine of recording companies….the lyrics tho about being able to cry (lyrics she recently released from TPD) seem linked to lyrics where she talks about her “pain is such an imposition” which is a theme in multiple songs - Taylor’s need to be real with her pain and understood, later she says in you’re losing me, how long could we be a sad song? Meaning maybe they connected through pain and she understood his pain but he could not meet her in her joy or love…in renegade she also implies this, her lover seems to be unable to commit or heal so she is left with his baggage unhealed and eventually leaves…the other lyric from folklore closure I think is “I’m fine with my tears and candles” or something like that always made me think of her telling whoever she left (friend karlie, recording label or Joe) that she is at peace with her sensitivity her true nature and she feels no need to be ashamed of it…
