Thailand is a refuge for many westerners, particularly men, who no longer recognize, or feel particularly appreciated, in their home countries. I don’t want to see Thailand lose the things that make it such a magical, special place. If that means I can’t get a job selling chicken, so be it.
It's only the West that thinks so-called Xenophobia is such a great moral evil. My family is Irish-American and it's heart breaking to see photos of Dublin where foreigners out number the Irish. My Mom always said she wanted to visit Ireland before she dies but will there even be any Irish left if she comes? Thailand is 100% justified in protecting their cultural heritage and I support them in this.
💯 percent. I’m here now and I would be disgusted and disappointed seeing a non Thai person serve me Thai food. I think it’s wonderful seeing Thai people work in 7/11. We almost exclusively have Indians owning and working in Melbourne 7/11’s. I think a better question would be why so many Thai’s don’t have basic English.
I totally agree. It's enough that old and disgusting men from the west always find some poor girl who is interested in their pension and they have small children in the age of grandfathers. Every country has the right to protect its interests and its people.
Really? I live in a so called non-xenophobic western country where the immigration is through the roof. As a result the rents and property prices are out of reach for the young people, general prices inflation skyrockets because of unrelenting demand, jobs are more and more scarce while the salaries go backwards due to massive workforce supply. Thais are not xenophobic, they are smart protecting their population. Would you prefer a Thailand full of westerners, Indians and Chinese where the local culture is forgotten and the prices are at European levels?
The US should learn something from Thailand and protect its people. Too many illegal migrants in the state. Get the correct visa, and then you can work in Thailand. Get an investment visa, and then you can open bars, restaurants, or whatever business you want. Why do people expect to work on a tourist or retirement visa? How many countries would let you do that?
That's a good point. That's probably one of the reasons why a foreigner wouldn't get a job in 7 Eleven. The result would be an increase in the price of labour.
The population decrease in Japan isn't a result of xenophobia. It's due to a shift in inter-gender relationship dynamics mainly as a result of feminism. This is also the case in western countries, it's predicted that over 50% of women in the USA at age 40 will be single and childless within a couple of decades. The only reason the population in western countries isn't declining is due to the level of immigration in western countries and the fact that these immigrant populations have a much higher birth rate.
I agree that there are other factors at play when it comes to the decrease in Japan's decreasing population. But the fact that they don't allow foreigners to gain Japanese citizenship, contributes to the fact that the population is decreasing.
Japan may lose half their population but it still be Japan. Native Whites/Europeans in many countries are going be minorities within our lifetimes and their countries irreversibly altered. No amount of GDP is worth that loss.
@@HairyPixels Do you think that our pasty white skin and blonde hair is that important, after all if you're on this channel you probably prefer women from SE Asia anyway and will diluting the Caucasian gene pool by having children with one.
After been married to a Thai for 37 years, and I have had the privilege to visit 154 countries,Europe is finished because of mass immigration,Thailand for Thais, you need to remember me and you are guest in the best country in world for us guest with money
It is the difference in perspective and culture. Thai culture doesn't encourage the term 'competitive' but emphasizes kindness and self-sufficiency. If you live in this country and find the 'sabai sabai' lifestyle, that means Thai people are stress-free from competing with foreigners in the job market. Anyway, if you really want a job in Thailand, simply ask your employer to help you obtain a work permit.
@@pascaldumont3859Its a fact that Europe is just way better then Thailand!I was man years in Thailand,Malaysia and Indonesia, and I go back!Thailand is just cheaper thats all!Thailand and Malaysia are in a compleat downward spiral, for Indonesia is still some hope!
This from a guy who couldn't bring himself to say Falkland Islands (in the referendum on whether the population wished to remain as an overseas territory of the UK, 3 said no (not 3%) said "no"
true, spent 3 months in Thai;and, wanted to live there and open a business, very difficult, if you get through all the legalities and open a biz, you cant even tell your employees what to do, you need to hire a Thai who will instruct your staff for you
@@autumnflower8942 I have left ved in Canada and the UK, spent time in the U.S. and Spain, foreigners who are given a visa of residency ARE allowed to own business s And run them and their staff, Thailand is a wonderful country But,,,,far too restrictive
@@Steverita132 Did you assume from my comment that I don't know this? Seriously? The stupidity of some people really knows no bounds. My comment was meant differently and one does not have to be a genius to get.
I love that Thailand doesn’t allow foreigners to occupy their low level workforce. I wish they’d be a little more stringent on visas as well. Due to the lower cost of living, there are some real scumbags that live among us here. Japan’s issues are from current Japanese youth not wanting to have children, not wanting to work their lives away to support a family.
How many lao work in thaikand? The north east of thailand they mainly speak laos or cambodian. 1 half of my road they speak laos the other side speaks cambodian
This is the best Thailand/Expat channel on RU-vid - gives you a balanced view of life in Thailand. Doesn't romanticize everything and is not afraid to expose the deep-rooted social issues that exist in Thailand.
This may be an unpopular opinion but having a zero tolerance policy for immigrants willing to integrate or foreign workers is absurd but I do believe if Thailand did need so in the future have an immigration policy like the Canadian model where mostly only allow skilled workers, people willing to integrate (Meaning other Asians and Farangs speak Thai), or people of means. I would even go as far as citizens from countries high with criminality , corruption, and low order should be vetted more thoroughly to prove they will not be a nuisance to Thais or make the country less safe.
I agree, quite xenophobic. I was in a bar that I should go home by a Thai guy who was drunk, I told him I had a visa for the country and I wasn't going anywhere until the visa expired. In the end the bar manager told him to shut up, she owns that Wow Cafe that you have been standing outside before. I've worked as a English teacher in 2011 plus wealth management telesales in 2011 and SEO telesales in 2015 all in Bangkok. The offices had Thai office staff and foreign telesales staff as we were calling Western countries, not many other jobs apart from teaching and telesales for foreigners in Thailand. Online working would be best.
Its complex, I find the word "Farang" which I was greeted with at a hotel in Ayutthay, recently, absolutely abhorrent, but its down to a combination of things. Lack of education, and 70 years of far right nationalism what do you expect? Also the bloody British and French especially with their slaughter and slavery of countless countries is also to blame. Thais do not want the same thing happening to them. Other side of coin, their stance of keeping foreigners down, what has it bought them? No DSS, many have to work till they drop, average wage $20 per day, arbitrary rule of law. If they are happy with that, let them have it. But I corrected someone telling them in Thai that there are more polite words to use rather than "Farang" to refer to a non Thai. As a foreigner who has lived and traveled there for 30 years I treat the place as a "Fantasy Land" meaning, how long can you hold your breath before the music stops? so to speak, I will never give up the option of being able to come home to DSS/Free medical (With worlds best doctors) and stability if I so choose it. The most vulnerable foreigners are the ones who have sold up shop back home and are fully committed to the place. But that may not be in all cases, I am sure there are many success stories. One thing is for sure any serious medical, I will not be at the mercy of Thai doctors and bulk of my assets will be at home, in my name.
The word "Farang" does not refer to "non-Thai;" it usually refers to "white Westerners." Additionally, the word may or may not be used as a derogatory term; it depends on the context.
