I would love if he returns with Donna and her family in a post credits scene, they see rose and ask how she's been, when she responds with "OH noootthhing, just fought Suetekh" and 14 just does the classic triple "what, What!, WHHHHAAAAATTTT!!!"

Maybe a cameo video message, like Matt Smith in Deep Breath, observing events and saying "It's good to see my future is in safe hands".

Part of my loose head-cannon, I love imaginng that when 14 ages, he plays out a similar-version of the 1960s Doctor Who movie with Peter Cushing.

I think 15 has 14s memories but can’t access them. So he knows that he’s been thru therapy but he can’t actually remember, he just knows he’ll be alright

My thoughts on this. When 14 biregenerated he was literally split in two. 1/2 the clothes, 1/2 the memories, 1/2 the experience. When 15 split the tardis in 2 (1/2) , I think that it weakened the Tardis . The way to resolve the 2 doctors/ Tardis’ issues would be to have them rejoin to gain powers and then 14 fully regenerates into 15 , ending the mystery. He could always come back as a cameo like the others.

This is the problem I had with The Giggle straight away... What happens next time present-day Earth is in trouble? It would be mad not to call the 14th Doctor in. (The current story also has the added quirk of needing to check the other TARDIS for Sutekh smoke too!) But let's face it... this is the same problem as presented by the Curator too (if you assume - as it's implied - that he is also a version of the Doctor who lives on present-day Earth.) Time to recon them away.

Personally I think the 60th was the best way to wrap his story, Tennant's Doctor gets the human life he wanted and can pick up his adventures with a clearer mindset once he becomes Ncuti. Regardless of whether he's the most popular Doctor or not, the show needs to move out of his shadow rather than rely on him as cheap nostalgia. Russell has a new Doctor, companion and a massive team working at Unit, they are the characters who should get priority otherwise what is the point in them being there.

I strongly feel that Russell was throwing people off with that comment, he is known to say things that turn out not to be true because he likes to keep the surprise.. I think a 14th doctor focused Limited Series spin-off (of say 4, 1 hour episodes) would be the best use of Tennant. Not now but in a few years. there are dark themes that the titular main series can never venture into, topics and things that are 18+ that the main show can’t explore, but like torchwood before it can expand the whoniverse in a meaningful way.. the issue with spin offs are that if things get serious people naturally ask where was the doctor, so it’s a perfect way of using 14 as the doctor whilst not bringing 15 and the main series into those strictly adult themes. an exploration of how far the doctor would go, should go, maybe even turning 14 into a very divisive doctor as more of an anti-hero, let Tennant show his full range as an actor.. people talk of 14 as working through the trauma to get to where 15 is, but working on your trauma and past isn’t all about sitting around eating scones, jam and drinking tea on the lawn.. sometimes you have to go to some uncomfortable places before you can fully heal. there’s an opportunity with bi-generation to shake things up, keep the audience guessing how things will work going forward-there’s this idea that 14 will just merge back with 15 at some point, but what if that doesn’t happen? what’s the point of introducing something as significant as bi-generation and not utilising it to push the series in interesting directions? again, keeping it limited and different from the main series would mean nobody steps on 15’s toes with likely the second or third series already under his belt by that point imo

Has anyone noticed that Maestro, Harbinger and I think some others, keep referring to the Doctor as "The Lord of Time" instead of a Timelord? Do you think that has something to do with his actual lineage? Could the Doctor also be part of the Pantheon? Maybe he is stronger and WAY older than we are aware.

I kinda wish they had 14 appear in the Pyramind of Mars along with say Rose or Donna, instead of 15 and Ruby in the upcoming Tales of the Tardis episode, potentially explaining why he doesn’t appear. He is in the Memory Tardis explaining why he isn’t just in Chiswick or wherever sat in the garden.

Honestly, I can see 14 working behind the scenes, still resting but doing what he can to help out and saving people. Saving the Nobles, and doing his part to save others nearby, etc.

What if tearing the Tardis in half only gives 15 half its power and 15, and his Tardis need to combine forces bringing them together as one again.

I think Fourteen should come back, both he and Fifteen realize that bigeneration has been mythical because it leaves two "incomplete" people, who can't survive forever on their own. So, Fourteen will be fatally wounded, and his energy (and being) will flow into Fifteen, who will become the whole Doctor again. Complete with his survivor's guilt, but having worked through a lot of his pain. Since the "salt at the end of time" thing is gonna have to be undone, or else the Universe will be too irrational for anyone, Doctor or no, to save, this will effectively heal the rift caused by Fourteen's misguided maneuver.

I kinda hope in his retirement epoch the 14th goes back to Gallifrey, maybe rebuilds some stuff from the ashes as a sort of therapy. Facing his loss and looking forward.

I genuinely think 14 should be in the finale as he is still a regeneration of the Doctor and still has the original TARDIS. It makes sense that Sutekh would want to destroy both. As if 15 gets destroyed...14 still exists to stop him. I dont think RTD has thought about that. Plus a threat to the world where 14 is in retirement- would require his attention. For those that say he might be off world- his TARDIS would be aware of the threat and take him home to help out. Sutekh would not allow any version of the Doctor to stay alive. This is a 2 Doctor story arc.

Technically, any of the Doctors could show up at any time, anywhere. We, as an audience, don't follow them everywhere. There are always adventures in-between episodes that we never get to see and just for example the 5th Doctor's observational timeline stretches from Event One the Big Bang to whenever Frontios happens (probably near the end of humanity's time in the Universe when Utopia is happening). Also, nothing says that 14 and Donna aren't on Venus in August of 2347 just "now". Sure they may have gone to Geneva, but did they stay there?

This is exactly why bigeneration should never have been a thing, we are always going to be asking where is 14? in any finale from here on ..its just too messy having two doctors! 15 deserved to be the one and only Doctor like all his previous incarnations. I wish 14 regenerated in the traditional way and maybe said something like "I'm ready to go!" ...but ugh we got lame bigeneration instead :(

Why would 14 sleep in donna's house? He still has his tardis which has swimming pools librarys. I think he be more of the neighbor. Also my head canon theres nothing to say hes also not taking the family and a tardis for a walk, a time machine would know not to cross there time lines. In my opinion, instead of 15 bigenerating from 14, he travelled back in time to 14’s fight with the Toymaker on UNIT tower, and help him defeat him (I know that the Doctor can’t go back along his own timeline but he now can due to throwing salt down at the edge of the universe in Wild Blue Yonder). That way, there would still be a multi-Doctor story, but it’s clearer to us how and when 14 will regenerate into 15. You could even have 14 regenerate into the Curator and then into 15, which would tie into what the Curator said to 11 about him revisiting old faces.

Davies saying Tennant will never return makes me think of Moffatt saying he would nevr write another episode. River Song said the Doctor lies. Maybe showrunners do too? I like the companions with different Doctors. Look how wonderful it was with Sarah Jane with 10 and now Mel with 15. I think it mixes things up and creates more interest to see new dynamics.

Using the "Russel-English" -dictionary, "He is gone and not coming back" translates into "He is totally coming back someday but im not telling it to you". I doubt he is back this soon though, although the Sutekh Tardis invasion might be related to the splitting of the Tardis into two and that is the only reason i would accept him back next episode or next season. Also his existence creates the possibility for a plot in where he suddenly disappears in future season and Donna Noble reaches the "current" doctor for help.

14 and Donna are in Geneva. David is my favorite Doctor but I love Ncuti as 15. I love his energy and enthusiasm. He's definitely the Doctor.

A tangent: I wish David had consciously played the 14th Doctor noticeably different from the 10th Doctor's personality and mannerisms. What I saw, and still have to dissuade myself of, is the sense of the 10th Doctor having returned. He is supposed to have the experiences of 11, 12 and 13, but stuck with a previous face.

I say anytime there's that large of an event, he should be brought in, even as just a minor cameo moment, in the background, but even then, I would say any doctor in the time period that the current doctor is in should have a chance to show up, and we know that most if not all the doctors have been to the 2020s

Gatwa is already tied for my second favorite Doctor, and the 9 Doctor has 24 hours to see if he keeps his spot. 14 can’t overshadow him in my opinion. I can see a future where a lot of the fan base is in the same position

How can you worry about undermining a doctor that had done NOTHING throughout whole season. Episode one, saved the monster which would kill someone definitely. Episode two, Beatles saved the day(as you do, seeing random piano with flying notes playing a tune and not even checking where it went) Episode three, well he kinda convinced hologram, but not only anyone could have done it, doctor himself still did nothing. Episode 4, well he is not in this one Episode 5, he begs to help but people refuse Episode 6 to busy in love to care about companion in danger. And we know in the finale some woman will save the day. He is legit useless. You can't make it worse, if 14 returnes we will rather have them banging eaj other or someone useful finally

I can't see 14 back in the finale, but he NEEDS to appear, i have two separate theories My original theory is that 14 and 15 will have to join forces in Gatwa's swansong to defeat...something or other. At the end, 15 will be fatally wounded, but discovers he can't regenerate - the two merge, ending 14's life cycle, leaving 15 off at the start of his timeline at UNIT and finally the physical bodies joining and regenerating to bring us 16th Doctor Gillian Anderson (one can only hope) My other theory is the opposite, so instead of neither of them being able to regenerate, both of them can. 14 joins on an adventure and is killed, however in a plot twist, he doesn't regenerate into Gatwa, instead it's...Richard E Grant, as the Valeyard - my only 'evidence' for this is considering Grant appears in the lineup of Doctors, it implies he's before 15, which yeah could just be written off as pre-Hartnell but personally I think it's too intentional for Grant to just be a throwaway Doctor I also recall a leak mentioning something about The Valeyard playing a role during Gatwa's era at some stage, with no season structure mentioned...but do take it with a pinch of salt as the same leak said we were getting Roswell Daleks in the finale Serious theories aside tho i'd love a pc scene after Empire of Death of 14 trying to sneak out of the house whilst Donna is going full mum mode telling him he's grounded

In the alternate timeline in 73 yards, when the tardis remained dormant afterbthe doctor dissappeared, was sutek still attached to the tardis for the rest of his days? I think its a tricky one because it is something I would be willing to watch but again it comes back to this overshadowing. In fact the thing is I think about some of the key episodes where DT Doctor has come back (particularly the 50th Anniversary and The Sarah Jane Adventures) and when he has come back in these shows it has overshadowed because it is about David Tennant. Of course he is charming, witty, lovely but I think its time for a break.

i just wish we were given an in-universe explanation for why he shouldn’t come back. id love donna to return and she’s already involved with unit, but how would she do so without 14 and his fully functioning tardis not getting involved also?

Well, I have watch an easter egg video (episode 7) on Doctor Who Culture channel, and it looks like in some sort of post episode release it's said that the Doctor and Donna are in Genova during this episode... we got the image of it written on black and white. I would not be against a return of the 14th, but if so it should be done right and serves a purpose. My opinion is that it is now time to rest for the 14th and I don't want to see him in the near future. Another interesting point from this easter egg video is that Susan Twist said: I dream of orange skies pointing out that it could be a reference to the sky of Gallifrey... that is interesting!

I think in the Christmas special the Doctor (15) should drop off Rose, with the Tardis parked opposite the doorway over the street, and Donna opens the door, and 15 waves from the Tardis doors and 14 nods or acknowledges him by sustaining eye contact and a nod (maybe saluting?) through the kitchen window or something :)) and Rose runs into her mum (there’s an exchange of gratitude but a subtle cameo)

It seems like it will be important for the finale tomorrow, and I've spent hours trying to figure out a way to watch it here before tomorrow to no avail. Super weird choice to ruin the premiere time of the whole show for the benefit of us Americans but not let us watch important minisodes. With absolutely no disrespect intended to the many other Doctors, there have been two who were portrayed by arguably the finest actors of their generation! One is Patrick Troughton, whilst the other is David Tennent!

I found that interesting when you mentioned the 14th living in his own house in the novelisation. Would you recommend the novel as I must admit I found the retirement living with the gang an oridnary life hard to reconcile with him being this amazing Timelord (even if it was worn to the ground). Remember when Matt Smith had to stay just for a short while with the Ponds and he almost went bezerk? I strongly agree that Ncuti needs to have his own time and that in such a short season to some extent has not been giving enough time yet. I love 10 but the producers need to be careful that DW becomes viewed by the masses as the David Tennant show. This sort of happened a bit in the eighties with people looking back to Tom Baker. Every Doctor should have their time in the limelight without compromise. My favourite is also Peter Capaldi - great taste you have my friend.

According to the pre-episode social media stuff Donna, Shirley and [REDACTED] were all in Geneva. I am assuming redacted is probably 14 which for this story at least shows why he isn't involved. I don't know whether they'll explain not being able to get in contact with the other bases considering 14 had a tardis and could be there instantly, probably not.

Rose is a teenage boy. They are the Doctors nephew, not niece Also, when you said The Wilderness Years I'm sure I'm not the only person who thought 2026 -... As for Tennant returning being a boost in viewership, that didn't work for the 60th Anniversary episodes so it's unlikely to work for future specials.

David will come back eventually, we are still yet to see him regenerate in Ncuti. Alternatively, 14 regenerating into Tom Baker in order to come full circle to defeat Sutekh with the same face again would also be a nice touch. But most certainly won’t happen haha. It’s my personal theory that 14 regenerates into the Curator, so if that were true, that also means that we may never seen David Regenerate, and off screen he will appear as older doctors somewhere along his Therapy regenerations. Tales of the Tardis may be the Doctor revisiting older faces in order to resolve past traumas, which I guess explains the bi-generation thing a bit better, in how there isn’t a literal copy of each Doctor out there, just the Doctor sharing some of the regeneration at various points in his life in order to return to that face, and figure out the trauma of each regeneration.

I think what would be brilliant is that he misses things now like Donna always does 😂 they’re living together now, and because he spends so much time with her, he would then naturally miss everything like she always does 😂

i understand why RTD went with the bi-regeneration thing. I think he was trying to put a close on the "permantly traumatised war hero" thing which admittedly was getting a bit old. However i do wish it was thought through a bit better. So if 14 was brought back just to kill him off, merge with Ncuti etc etc then id be fine with that. I also think although bringing back David Tennant and Catherine in the specials was fun for old fans, it was not a good idea if this was supposed to be a fresh start/new era. Because you'd have to watch the specials to understand whats going on.

OK, massive cellar of salt time.... I've got connections to staff at millennium plaza in Cardiff, and they told me about filming in there, the same day of the vespa scenes. Those were shot in the road next to the plaza. They said David was on the call sheet.... and that they were shooting the regeneration. Now, we know that clearly not what they filmed, if anything, so please understand it might all be utter bobbins and my contact talking out of their bum. Remember her first episode as Donna -- we weren't all sure we were going to love her, although by the end of the episode I did wish they'd give her more time as a companion. Partners in Crime was such a romp and so funny that she was cemented as a favorite character. But at the beginning that was not certain.

My headcannon is that him and Donna have currently gone off-world during the 2-part finale, either for fun or for a UNIT mission. Personally, I would have loved a spin-off series involving him, which would make sense with the 'Whoniverse' that I don't think we've really seen any 'new' content from yet (such as new shows, films, cartoons, games, etc.) I think it's kind of dumb to create this bigeneration and literally do nothing with it, or even explain how it works or why it works. I'm also confused that, if RTD is saying that he died, what happened to the 14th Doctor's Tardis? Also, I know it's bigeneration, but they never said that the 14th Doctor couldn't regenerate (unless there's an article or interview somewhere I don't know about), so what's going on? I think used David and Catherine to create this massive and epic return, but then didn't think about the consequences.

I don’t think it will happen. Probably shouldn’t either. Everyone loves Tennant. He is the Tom Baker of Nu Who. But it’s cheap thrill to just keep resurrecting him. Personally I always wondered what happened to the mortal version of the Doctor that Rose ran off with.

He should stay "gone" in the main TV series but not in expanded media. I want to see 14 in Big Finish ... David always does BF as the 10th so having him as the 14th isn't too much of a stretch. Also maybe some online 2-3 minute minisodes. I like the suggestion of @w33shy26 that would work as a minisode too. I would like though some sort of explanation to where he is in "Empire of Death" - he could be in Geneva leading the UNIT forces there but not seen on screen for obvious reasons.
