Great review as always Joe. I was in the market for a Civic but, when I could actually find one in CA, it was marked up the wazoo. The interior for my hatch was definitely better than the Civic, and got mine for under MSRP, and I love it. Love the channel, it's must see viewing.

3 reasons to own a Mazda: great styling, quality built and most of all no stupid annoying stop/start!! I traded in my 2017 six for a 22 CX9. Wife is trading in her Jetta for a 22 Mazda 3. It’s on order with a 4-6 week wait.

AWD & 250HP oh yeah!! I'd have to look at this, the Si and the GTI you and Lori did not long ago! Especially if it's got the room for a traditional Ruben and New Dill and 13 twinkies! Nice interior as well, along with Heads up display!! The on throttle sounds really nice too. That AWD would come in handy for Northern Michigan too. That sure was a twisty road, that being said.... Lori fantastic camera work once again!! Great review!!

I have a 2021 mid level Mazda 3 with 186hp. It's already a rocket as compared to lesser makes. From a deaf stop, I kept up with a Porsche Panamera up right to the legal speed limit. Imagine what a turbo Mazda 3 can do! I will break my bank account to go for a turbo next.

Love my 3 Turbo. It’s definitely more of a GT car rather than performance car, but that’s okay because it does it so well. If you want a sporty well price sedan, go for the Civic. If you want a more powerful luxurious car, go for the 3. They are both great cars in their own way.

Great review. Had a Civic Si on order for my son and then the local Mazda dealer got a new 3 Hatch in that gorgeous red. He didn't drive it for 15 minutes before he was totally sold on the 3 over the Civic Si. I think the exterior color and far nicer interior are what really won him over.

ive owned a 2018 mazda 3 that had a touch screen, and i never used it. the buttons are so much more convenient as you dont have to take your eyes off the road and it doesnt make your screen dirty overtime. a touchscreen is very gimicky. receiving the 2022 awd turbo sport model in 2 days because of the winter conditions here in canada. couldnt bear the fwd in snowy and icy conditions anymore. so excited!

The aero package this model has completes the look at the back and decreases wind noise under the front. Worth ordering! I love mine :)

I recently started looking at the Mazda 3 as my next car. My only issue is the closest dealership to me is 60 miles away. That's a long way to drive for warranty service. I really like this car!

Great review Joe! Two points though: 1- You need to anticipate the shift due to the delay so you need to shift a fraction of a second before your shift point. :) 2- It doesn't need an LSD since it's AWD, I didn't get that point.

You always do great reviews on vehicles. Almost bought a 2021 but thought I'd wait, and definitely will buy a 2022 model. Wish it came in silver at this top tier but it does not. I prefer an automatic 'cause I've been driving a manual since post high school.

Bought the 22 turbo, this exact one, two months ago. Love it to bits! My only wish, although this is a double edged sword, is that Mazda was a little more popular because the aftermarket support is atrocious

I have a '21 turbo that I've had for almost a year, and love it. I did get it tinted, chrome delete, front lip, window visors, and covered the piano black on the interior. Still debating on new rims and tires though...

I'm a Honda man through and through but I definitely appreciate the timeless designs coming from Mazda!!! And the packaging is stellar!!! This isn't really a competitor to the Si, N, GTI, Focus ST, WRX, Mazdaspeed3 etc. The new 3 Turbo is just simply a more powerful version of the 3 so it compete better with entry level luxury cars like the A3, 228i, or A220. HOT versions are not just about HP they are about chassis dynamics more than anything. All of those cars have stiffer suspension, quicker steering racks, bigger brakes, LSD, Chassis stiffening, and more engaging transmissions. The Mazda 3 Turbo is tuned for luxury with a bit of sport. It does that very well. Think about it like an Audi A3 for 10k less not a HOT hatch competitor.

Really should have vents and USB connectivity for the rear at this price point. Overall the interior quality and materials could be in a car costing twice as much. A very solid choice in its class.

As someone who has a honda, this mazda 3 turbo just passes the Civic Si in almost every way. a 45HP difference alone would get me to buy the Mazda.

Really a sleeper, a great little car. All season drive.

This is the first time I like the Mazda3 looks more than the Civic. Mazda really knows how to make simple look great right now. I love how this car has all the tech I care about but the interior is very simple, and I appreciate those analog gauges in a world of screens. This particular trim level is a bit much in my opinion but one thing I like, with many brands of car like Honda even, you have to get the EXL or the Touring to get the best stereo, with the Mazda 3 you just have to go up to the mid-level Carbon Edition and you get the BOSE.

I mean man this is just a really really nice car. I actually agree about the chrome. Should certainly darken it up.

You know as beautiful as this one is it looks even better with a hatch in polymetal and red leather seats, came so close to switching up from my CX-5 CE but had to have the space. I can’t believe I was sleeping on Mazda for so long.

As you said, if you don't want or don't know how to drive a manual this is a great option for daily driving.

Big difference in area under the curve when using premium fuel versus regular. Peak numbers don’t tell the whole story. Always run premium with this motor!

Loving my 2015 Mazda 3 Sedan. Shame that the 250HP Turbo model isn't coming to Europe, I would love to turn mine in for the even sportier turbo model.

I just bought a 2022 premium plus awd turbo hatchback about 2 weeks ago. It's very peppy from a stand still and accelerates pretty good... if your trying to get in front of someone.. you will beat them most of the time unless they have a faster car

Great video as always One comment about the AWD: Mazda's AWD is FWD biased in order to save on fuel economy. Unless you are flooring your Mazda or are constantly driving in HEAVY incliment weather, you will only be utilizing your front two tires 99% of the time. Is it worth it to primarily drive in FWD while carrying an extra 200lbs of dead weight from the AWD drivetrain? Something to consider. Most will be better off with quality seasonal tires.

Wish you would let the transmission do the shifting to give us your thoughts on that especially since you had issues with the upshift in manual mode. You didn't mention that this car also comes as a hatchback.

I gotta say it every time you do. I HATE touch screens in cars. They reflect fingerprints and it's very difficult to touch a specific spot, on a screen, when driving down a bumpy road. I LOVE that Mazda puts the screen out of easy reach and gave us a very easy to use controls. But I do agree, a larger screen would be great.

With a $4k price difference, I can't compare them equally. I'd definitely want more power though.

I'm wondering if they're about to release a 5th gen mazda 3 soon. I noticed that the previous gens were short lived.

Drove a CLA, A3 and than the hatch AWD Mazda 3, I'm choosing the Mazda all day. The A3 felt torquer, but I preferred the Mazda overall to those psuedo luxury cars.

With AWD it is much better then a Civic SI and faster too.Mazda has so much torque down low that it is a great daily driver and has no problem getting on the HWY--in triple digit speeds if need be.

Thanks for showing turn signal. It mjght be important to see color, red or propper amber.

This would be a nice daily driver. My weekend car is a 370Z, so the Mazda 3 turbo AWD would give it a run for the money.

Have a turbo 2021 premium plus AWD all in all I regret getting it more into the style of the N series from Hyundai but modding my car etc and getting the lip kit on it has made me like it to some degree, gas is ok as well

Great review. I am not the same person who shop for the Si will be shopping for this. The Si is manual only and FWD, (that has always been the case). The 3 Turbo is AWD with automatic. Mazda has a slight edge in the interior, very slight because Mazda infotainment aint special. For a daily driver I'd get the Mazda. As an all out sporty compact sedan, the Si is still a better choice. I could spend that 4 grand difference on the Si and I'd be making more power.

I am definitely a Mazda fan and current owner, but the Honda Si is definitely also a draw. They both appeal to me, but on entirely different levels. Given the premium in the Mazda's price, I'd likely be inclined to bring the new Integra into consideration. I'd honestly have to drive all three, and likely dozens of other cars, in order to make a choice. As you may be aware, I love just about everything and frankly, when I go car shopping, I'm usually considering a broad range of vehicles. If I had my poor man's dream garage of 5-7 vehicles, then I'm able to narrow down specific tools for different purposes. What can I say, I'm just a freak. One question for you Joe, how can you tell when the car's tires are not providing sufficient lateral grip? Is that sensation akin to feeling like the chassis can handle more stress on a turn but you somehow also feel that the car's stability would potentially suffer or overwhelm my skill level and I feel like I need to back off from the throttle or brake? I'm really curious what the sensation of driving a mid-engined car is like. The Cayman/Boxster is definitely on my radar at some point in the future. While I love Porsches so much for their aesthetic appeal, I do also question whether I'd even get enough out of it due to my skill level and application of the car as a daily driver. I'll freak out when I actually pull the trigger on something and I'll definitely share what it is with you. I hope you two are well.

I have the ‘21 same exact car. Just wish the turbo models got a little more sporty oriented features! Besides the turbo badge, it doesn’t stand out between the turbo or the lower trim 2.5 N/A but that’s my only complaint!

The problem is is that you could say the same about the previous Gen civic; these cars are very close in size externally, but it’s not contest on the interior. I’d say the current 3 has a nicer interior than the 10th Gen civic, but it’s close enough now with the 11th that Mazda is gonna have to give me a better suspension and actual room on the inside for me to consider it. I love it’s aesthetics tho. It’s just a niche car in a field that doesn’t need to be niche. The civic can handle a small family. The Mazda is really only for 2 people at most.

I was really torn between this and the last Acura ILX. (Ignoring the fact that the Integra is replacing it) I used to have a ‘15 Mazda3 S Grand Touring and I just bought a ‘22 ILX Aspec. Comparing this new 3 to the ILX, there are pros and cons to both. HP, 3 has 250, ILX has 201. Trans, 3 has 6auto, ILX has 8DCT (one of the best I’ve ever driven). 3 has AWD, ILX is FWD. Tires, 3 has 215, ILX has 225. Infotainment, I actually like the dual screen in the ILX for having GPS and music displayed separately at the same time. MPGs are pretty close to the same. There weren’t any 2.5T AWD 3s in stock for me to test drive, so I decided to change it up and get the ILX. Did I make a mistake? Haha. Because this looks pretty awesome.

It’s a luxurious car, I just wish it were a little more engaging to drive.
